I'm really disappointed with my experience at Nine Mile. I ordered the 3-piece fish with coleslaw and onion rings, and unfortunately the food was not enjoyable at all. The fish was extremely greasy -- to the point that it was basically inedible and honestly made me feel sick to my stomach afterward. The onion rings were just okay and nothing special. The coleslaw was also concerning because it came out room temperature. It seemed like the merchandiser doors where it's stored may not have been fully closed, which definitely didn't inspire confidence in the food handling. The most unfortunate part of the visit was that our waitress, Marilyn, appeared completely run ragged. Because of that, we didn't really receive attentive service -- though it was hard to tell whether she was overwhelmed or just not very friendly. Either way, it didn't add to the experience. The seating arrangements in the bar area is family style, if you're not keen on sitting elbow to elbow with complete strangers, this probably isn't the dining room option for you. We were in Fort Wayne visiting a brother recuperating from surgery and attempted to order a pickup order for three. We used YELP to find a decent place near his home. When I called the phone was answered quickly but the lady who answered yelled at someone that THIS IS AN ORDER. The phone was put down and for the next seven minutes I listened to a background of customers paying and employees talking. No one ever came back to the phone. To start out this review of the Nine Mile restaurant, it was our first time ever coming here to eat. It was a busy Sunday night with a full parking lot. However, even though they were busy all of our food came out fast. All of the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. All of our food was good especially the fish and the stuffed mushrooms we would definitely come back for. The only disappointment of the entire meal was all 3 soups that came to the table. Two potato soups and one white chicken chili came out cold. Even though they were a little on the cold side, the soups still had solid flavor. My husband and I stopped at this little place on our way back home in Ohio from Michigan. We actually passed it but then husband whipped the vehicle around and said let's try it. Glad we did. He had the Hot Sub and curly fries saying the sandwich had a nice twist on it that I think was red wine vinegar. I had a half order of the Mexicali nachos. The menu didn't mention half or full size but the server asked and glad I had only half. It was filling enough for me for lunch and tasty. The server was quite nice and the service was fast as well during the lunch hour that we were there. They must do a lot of carry out as well we noticed. That says a lot. Stopped in here while on the road back to Chicago. My breakfast was delicious. The omelette was packed and how could you pass up raisin toast? I have been going to this place for nearly 30 years... I don't get there as much as I did when I first moved to the Fort in 1993. EVERY evening or luchtime we go by there the parking lot is FULL! Terry and I order take out every now and again and once in a while we actually go and eat there... Today was one of those days. We did something we don't normally do we ordered an appetizer... the pretzel sticks... 3 LARGE sticks with an awesome white cheddar cheese sauce... oh yea! I got my usual, a Chef's Salad... WOW, I forgot how LARGE this salad actually is... I had to force myself to get 2/3s through it... and I don't shy away from large portions! Terry had a double cheese burger, she likes hers plain... which really works out well here... there was NOTHING to hide the wonderful flavor of this made fresh daily burger. Terry offered me a bite... I could tell by the aroma as it passed under my nose toward my mouth I was gonna love it... and boy was I right! I have had some good burgers in Fort Wayne and I'm guessing that one of the contributing factors is the flattop it's cooked on! The older and more seasoned the grill the better the burger... this burger was the BOMB! She also ordered fries... the have several options as I recall... regular, curly and wedges... we got regular... these didn't look typical... sorry, I forgot to take pictures... and they didn't taste typical... all I can really tell you is they were great... Terry wanted a 2nd order before she even had one... I wondered outloud why? She said... "I'm hungry"... Okaaay? I'm glad she did... she must have known how much I was going to raid her fry stash... I couldn't keep my hands of them... We don't normally have dessert, but for some reason we both ordered one to go... Terry had her perennal favorite, apple pie... and I got my favorite cake... carrot! I had a taste of her pie and it was great... the apple slices cooked just right... not over cooked and mushy... I want to say a slight crunch still in them, but so you don't get the idea that it was undercooked, I'll say "firmness". My carrot cake... was solid and flavorful ... and a THICK layer of icing! My blood sugar had to have gone through the roof and I handn't even started eating yet... really good stuff... On a side note... I have had their Chicken Gizzards... they are fantastic also... didn't have them this time, but if you like gizzards, don't forget to try theirs sometime... either the appetizer OR the platter... you won't be disappointed. The food is usually good, but the quality is not consistent. Sometimes very good, sometimes too well done, you just never know! Last time the food was very good, but we waited 45 MINUTES for it and it was just Mexican food, which is usually put together very quickly. The food was perfection. From the baked fish to the French fries; their sweet potato salad and the spinach and bacon salad... bacon pieces were chunks from a bigger slab. Everyone brags about "thick cut" but at nine mile, they meant it. We WILL be back. Great Place !!! We were in Fort Wayne for a wedding and since we live in Texas we were looking for a place that serves Lake Perch. Saw Nine Mile's menu and we drove 15 miles to get there and....they have great lake perch !!!. Nice family restaurant with a wide variety of items on the menu. Great prices too !! Well other than that I just want to rave about the lake perch...huge portion, deliciously fried and a great price !!! SO good, we went back the next day and had lake perch again for lunch !!! I had lunch with a friend on Thursday around 11 AM on November 22, 2015 . It has off street parking and when you walk in it is obvious it is a family restaurant that is very old, but quaint. It has very low ceilings which I personally did not care for but it was clean, small and cozy. It has a full bar and both tables and booths. Along the walls are pictures of local friends, customers and family. My friend lives in the rural farming community and knew most of the people in the pictures. It has a full bar and a limited selection of domestic draught beer (+.5). I had a miller light and a bacon cheeseburger and fries. My friend had a salad. Both were very good. The burger was not too big, but appeared to be fresh hamburger and very tasty. The fries were crinkle cut and what you would expect. The meal was very reasonable and if you live around here, you already know all about the place. However, if you are passing through, it is a great place for a home cooked meal. My husband had the ribs and I had the cod. They were both really good. Also, the server felt my pieces of fish weren't big enough (I hadn't noticed) so they threw in extra fish to make sure I had enough. I recently tried their new signature cocktails, and the Cherry rum, tea, and lemonade drink is delicious, but a bit pricey at $6.50. food is reasonably priced. Nine Mile is a casual, fairly quiet old school (wood paneling, tables and booths, soft lighting) bar with an adjacent family dining room. Service is always very good. Food is solid. I had the BBQ rib/chicken combo with baked potato and a cup of chili. Chili came out first: tasty, tomato-based, chili w/meat and beans. Dinner followed shortly after. The house made BBQ is similar to Open Pit original, tangy with just a touch of heat. The chicken breast was moist. The ribs were slow-cooked and fall off the bone tender (reminds me of ribs mom cooked in the crockpot years ago). The baked potato was disappointing (obviously was reheated from much earlier in the day, or even previous day). My wife ordered the 3 piece Cod dinner with onion rings. The fish and onion rings are deep fried in a beer batter. Fish is thick. Both are tasty, but a bit greasy (take your Pepcid when you get home). The waitress brought an extra piece of fish out because she noticed the three out of the kitchen were smaller than normal. Nine Mile is not fine dining, but it is a friendly, comfortable place to get a solid meal with attentive service. There is a reason why on a Thursday night as we drove through Decatur there were very few cars parked in other establishments. The reason, is this place. Despite the parking lot being almost full we did not have to wait for a table. We were a bit cramped in our booth table but the food was worth it. Order the onion rings! My husband said that by far these are the best he has ever had. Very good. If you are a fan of spinach salads and bacon dressing order it. The dressing is a cold dressing and at first I was put off by the jelly like appearance of it. But it was fantastic! They actually sell it by the jar as well. Hubby had the lake perch and raved about it. I had the Thursday pasta special (seafood one). The pasta sauce was very rich and very flavorful. I did not care for the cauliflower that they put in the dish and would ask them to not add it if ordered again. I have seen some reviews mentioning that there are not necessarily great seating options for children. We didn't take our toddlers this trip but there were several tables with high chairs and kids. I don't know what their point of reference is, but Nine Mile isn't trying to compete with Ruth Chris. Nine Mile serves good quality, tasty food at excellent prices. The service is fast, friendly, and warm. I have been eating here for years and whenever an error or mistake is made the staff and owners correct it immediately without making excuses. So, don't listen to the reviewers who complain and moan without giving the restaurant an opportunity to remedy their rare error.
