The old bar immediately grabbed my attention and looked like it hadn't changed much in over a century We started with the Parmesan baked oysters, which were outstanding and surprisingly fresh for being in the Midwest The homemade clam chowder was loaded with clams and flavor. It was so good it didn't need anything added to it. We also ordered a couple of smoked Old Fashioneds that were a great way to start the night I wanted sea bass, but they were out, so I went with the walleye fish and chips. It's honestly hard for me to pass up fish and chips when they're on a menu, I'm glad I did. The fish was well-seasoned and on point My wife went with a seafood combo that included seafood au gratin, bay scallops, shrimp, crab, applewood bacon risotto, and baked in a lobster creamy sauce Being in Fort Wayne for just one night, this ended up being a great find. On the flip side...The Oyster Bar offers 130 years of history in a uniquely older facility that features fresh high quality seafood along with outstanding service. You decide what you value and how you want to spend your dinning dollars. The Oyster Bar is located south of downtown area on Calhoun Street. The vintage building is well signed, lighted and offers an easy-in-easy-out side parking lot. The restaurant only holds about 50 dinners with a limited number of tables and a small bar. I would suggest that you call and make a reservation as The Oyster Bar is a fairly popular place to dine. Inside the building has retained the historic look. The foyer is very small...just like walking into an old house. They feature lots of dark hardwoods and a vintage looking bar. The tables are located very close together as you would expect in a small area. I think the tables are smaller in size as it was difficult to accommodate all the dishes, menus, glasses and cell phones. The white table linens and attractive "sea going" decor help set the experience. The staff on this night was very friendly, professional and helpful. They made us feel welcomed quickly. The waitress was great about removing dishes, refills and stopping to check on us. It's easier when all your tables are close together. Overall the food was excellent. Fresh seafood in Fort Wayne isn't common place. The food creations were delicious & creative without being all that unique. You will find a fairly broad menu to meet most dinner's choices. Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Calm Chowder: very creamy without being overly rich to taste; moderately thick in consistency with a mild clam flavor; several larger pieces of clam meat; very good taste -Oysters on the half shell: beautiful presentation; oysters were fresh taste; no salty or "sea" tastes/smells; a small dab of sweet cocktail sauce and ground horseradish were nice add; oysters were outstanding!! -Fried Hushpuppies: no corn meal breading here. The outside was lightly fried and slightly oily to taste. The inside was slightly sweet, soft and moist. The chipotle aioli sauce has a very mild southwestern flavor that accented the sweet breading. -Crab Cakes: two fairly large cakes packed with real crab meat; gently fried; the fresh seafood flavors come through nicely; another very good dish! -Seafood Au Gratin: plenty of chunks of scallops and crab buried in a delicious lobster cream sauce and layer of mozzarella cheese. The sauce was creamy and mild without being rich. The seafood pieces retained their original flavor. The cheese topping was nice and gooey which held the seafood & sauce together nicely. Ahlana served us quickly and with a smile, checking in several times to see if we were enjoying our meal. It was kind of dark inside (adding to the atmosphere no doubt) and there is a collection of eclectic art work. We were not fans of the music but we are old! A bass player had showed up and was trying like mad to dial the pianist and/or singer via cell phone to understand why they were not present. After waiting for an hour, I paid my bill and started to leave. A young member of the wait staff stepped in front of me and said "the music is about to start." I smiled and kept walking toward the door. Next time I want jazz, I'll head to Chicago. Being an hour late with the music over there just would not fly, and it never happens. A venue in that city that was unreliable regading it's musical acts would simply not be able to stay in business.

The prime ribeye was too fatty, but the grilled chicken skewers were yummy! Everyone, the bartenders and hosts was super nice and friendly, except for our waitress. We didn't know her name because she never introduced herself, and from the moment we sat down, she gave us that look. You know the "I don't like you" look? Yeah, I know that look. So, about halfway through, I gave her the same look right back. After she served our food, she gave us a thumbs-up , as if we couldn't speak English or something. Let me make this clear: Yes, we are Asian, but if we go to an American restaurant, we 100% know how to order our food, communicate, and respond to our servers. She also didn't check on us to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything until we were almost finished. Then she came over and asked, "You okay?" It's not like she was a quiet or shy person, either. She was happily chitchatting with the people dining next to us. I told my husband not to leave her a tip, but he's too nice, so of course, he still gave her one. I do hope the manager sees this review because I think the rest of the staff deserves recognition. Everyone else was wonderful! Overall, we will come back, but if she's working, I'll definitely request a different server.

They're set up for family accommodations in the main dining room and I was very impressed with the over 21 bar area in the back of the house. We decided to eat there tonight, after not dining there since June 28, 2025, when we had a GREAT dinner. This evening's meal, however, was unacceptable by ANY standards. My beer, a Scottish Oktoberfest, was pretty good, my wife's drink was an Aperol/gin combination that was very tasty and was obviously shaken but served in a rocks glass with no ice. The glass was about 1/4 full. It should have been served in a martini or Marie Antoinette glass, not a rocks glass. We ordered the Hummus, which consisted of a cup of very bland Hummus (no salt, no lemon, little to no Tahini), a few batons of peppers, a few unevenly and thin sliced cucumber, and a piece of Pita (the Pita was warm and very good, but there wasn't enough of it to eat all of the Hummus). Even though we ordered the Hummus to come out first, our Fish and Chips came out halfway through eating the appetizer, which is a sign that we were being pushed to eat faster before the rush at 630 - 7 pm. This is a big mistake when serving us, as we do not linger, but we typically drink 2-3 drinks each with dinner, and if you push us out the door, your sales plummet. Also, it's very poor service practice. Regardless, our Fish and Chips, which we decided to split because the last time we ordered a portion each, we couldn't eat it all, was on our table. This time, however, we were served what appeared to be a child's portion, as you can see by the first picture. It consisted of (maybe) 8 oz of cod (as is advertised), a bullet (stainless steel ramekin) of tasteless, wilted coleslaw, and a bullet each of tartar and curry sauce (the curry sauce was inedible, and one of the worst things I have tasted in a long time.) We asked the server if the portion sizes had changed, but she told us she was new and didn't really know which is fair. What we received last year was what the second picture depicts: a generous portion of fries, and two pieces of fish that have been nicely plated. In fact, the woman at the table received just that - a proper portion. My wife and I called the server over after seeing our neighbor's Fish and Chips, and our server took our bill to the manager. The manager came over and asked if we had an issue with the Fish and Chips. We explained to him that our plate looked completely different from the table beside us and asked why that would be. The manager proceeded to argue with us that the fish is portioned at 8 oz (as advertised), which we already knew. Our point was that one table gets what looks like a larger portion, nicely plated, and we got what looked like a school cafeteria mistake. My wife, a Certified Executive Pastry Chef with 35 years' experience in fine dining and as a Hospitality Program Chair at the college level, and I, a Certified Executive Chef with 35 years' experience in 3 countries, plus 5 years' experience as a Hospitality Program Chair at the college level, offer a couple of pieces of advice. 1. Fries are cheap, so is lettuce. Build up the salad and plates with cheap sides and people will think they are getting a deal, even if you cheat them on the protein. It's all about the customer's perceived value, not what you believe is acceptable. 2. Be consistent. If one person gets two pieces of fish, then everyone gets two pieces. It's not difficult to portion an 8 oz piece of cod into 2 - 4 oz pieces. And, again, plate everything the same way. If I received the plate we got tonight, and my wife got the plate our neighboring table received, I would have called the server over immediately and demanded them to be replated. 3. DON'T ARGUE WITH THE CUSTOMER. Service recovery is very important, and if you do it, you'll be the anomaly nowadays because, for some reason, customer service doesn't exist anymore. Offering another side of chips, a free drink, a percentage off, AN APOLOGY, even if you think the customer is wrong, is the best way to keep people coming back. Bare minimum, be understanding, and try and make the customer happy instead of making them even MORE upset....those things cost nothing compared to losing business (which you just lost, by the way). 4. Train your kitchen staff to ensure consistency. Customers demand it, and so should you. 5. Make sure your staff stays busy and not standing behind the bar area chit chatting while customers wait for their drinks. If they want to talk, send them outside, or out of the patron's sight. It makes them look apathetic and lazy. 6. Demand professionalism. One of your barmen had his pants so low I could see the brand of his underwear. His hair was greasy, and his t shirt was so short that I could see his stomach. This is not a good look for an open bar, nor is it sanitary, especially when he kept hitching up his pants and messing with his hair without washing his hands. You guys are better than this. One item that caught our attention is the cheesecake flight with 4 varieties of toppings!! The drink menu is also extensive. My companion ordered the chocolate covered cherry vodka drink.
