Black Dog Pub (Covington Rd, Fort Wayne) - community bar with good food and charm…read more First time visiting the Black Dog Pub. I've avoided trying them because I'd heard they were always busy and had long wait times. On this occasion we had no wait even though they were really busy. I'm really glad we gave the Black Dog Pub a try. Black Dog is located in a strip mall at the Coventry Plaza. Parking can be deceiving - if the front lot is full then park out back. There is a small outdoor eating area which you will encounter as you go inside. The Pub has an inviting but small bar located right at the entrance. The restaurant will only seat about 50 dinners inside. The four person table is very small. Not much room for 4 water glasses, 4 drinks, 1 appetizer dish and four entrees - actually painfully small. On this night the outside temp was 90 degrees. The kitchen wouldn't make pizzas, calzones or grill wings when it is this hot (safety reasons). The team here was very friendly and helpful. They really hustled, kept the refills coming and served us well!! The menu is fairly large - salads, burgers, pizza, sausage rolls/calzones, sandwiches, subs and wraps. Something for everyone. All items seemed reasonably priced...and the ones we tried were delicious! Here is a run down of the food items we ordered: -Onion Rings: Black Dog says these are the "Best in Town". I'd say they were really good and worth a try! They start with a thick piece of onion and hand batter it with a very thick coating. Not too oily. Not much added flavor in the breading. Just an outstanding onion ring! -Side House salad: nice sized salad with a variety of side vegetables and cheese. Everything was fresh and tasty. -Cole Slaw: "Our signature Cole Slaw" better be good! The slaw has medium sized cabbage and carrot pieces bathed in a very light mayo sauce. The dish is slightly sweet with a little added seasoning. It comes off refreshing and cool yo taste. I really liked this signature dish. -Sweet Chili Chicken wrap: my wife had the wrap. The chicken was moist and tender. The char broiling gives it an added flavor coupled with a very mild sweet chili sauce. No strong after taste kick. She really liked the delicious wrap. -8 piece jumbo wings: on the appetizer section of the menu for $11.50. In the 8 order...there were probably more large to medium sized wings than jumbo wings. My teriyaki wings were lightly fried such that the skins only had a small amount of crisp. The inside was thoroughly cooked - no pink. Unfortunately, they might have been a little over cooked as they were solid white and a little tough/dry. The teriyaki sauce was thinner in consistency. They dipped the wing in a healthy amount of sauce. Much of it pooled in the bottom of the basket. It had a decently dark and bold teriyaki flavor with no spicy after kick.

I ended up ordering a brew that was very much not to my liking; it was listed as an amber ale, but was really sweet and nothing like any ale I've ever had before. I ended up sending it back because it was undrinkable. They still charged me for it. I don't think it is out of line to expect to taste something unknown.

This wasn't just another place to grab…read morea meal--it was one of my favorite restaurants and a place I recommended to friends and family without hesitation. That's what makes its decline so frustrating to watch. For what feels like a year or so now, every problem is met with the same explanation: "Sorry, it's a new person in the kitchen." At some point, that excuse stops being believable. Constant turnover isn't bad luck--it's a sign that something is fundamentally wrong. The food quality has become wildly inconsistent. On my latest visit, the fries were so undercooked that some were essentially raw potatoes. The boneless wings were dry and overcooked to the point of being tough. The bone-in wings were questionable enough that I lost my appetite. The best word I can use to describe the meal is simply: ick. The servers deserve better. They work hard, stay professional, and often seem stuck apologizing for problems they didn't create. What concerns me most is the management. On multiple visits, I've watched the manager Josh speak down to employees in a way that no customer should be hearing and no employee should have to endure. I've seen staff members visibly upset and even reduced to tears. When customers can hear employees being talked down to, there is a leadership problem. The owner needs to pay attention. When employees leave, new kitchen staff constantly rotate through, customers hear the same excuses over and over, and food that was once consistently excellent becomes a gamble, the problem isn't the newest person in the kitchen. The problem is the culture being created by management. After 35+ years as a loyal customer, this is not a review I ever expected to write. What was once one of the most reliable restaurants in town now feels like a business surviving on its reputation while quality, morale, and standards continue to decline. The saddest part is that I remember how good this place used to be.

The bartender was kind and polite and quick with the service. There were only about three or four tables with people, let them during the course of my time. A few other folks came and sat at the bar. I heard it a side salad with salmon and it came out to me pretty quickly. The flavor was delicious, the salmon, well cooked, and the apple vinaigrette dressing on the salad was delightful. The biggest challenge, was a table with a few children sitting at it. This is no fault of the restaurant, and really, not even the result of my four-star rating. This is merely a statement: if your children are misbehaving and screaming and banging things on the table while other people are trying to eat their dinner, then perhaps the best option is to remove the children from the restaurant. It's always surprising to me when parents are selfish and subject everyone else in the vicinity around them to the poor behavior of their children. As a parent myself, I would never do that to other people. When you go out to a nice restaurant, you want to relax and enjoy the time not listen to tantrums from a three year old. Even the bartender in the servers were frustrated with this table. Some people even walked out after sitting down when they realize that unbelievable noise is coming from one table. Ok, soapbox time is over. Support the summit grill kitchen.

The brown sugar old fashioned was also made to perfection and paired wonderfully with the meal. The service was great, and the atmosphere was very nice -- upscale but still comfortable. If you're looking for food and service that match the dollar amount you're spending, it's absolutely worth a visit. Very -family/large party- friendly

I was hoping I'd find a good place to get fries and seafood, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality at Wild Crab. The restaurant was moderately empty on a Sunday, with some light pop song remixes playing in the background. It was a large area that felt very clean and well-taken care of. Despite there only being one server, we were attended to fairly quickly and we were always checked on periodically to make sure everything was okay! My boyfriend and I ordered a shrimp/calamari basket, lobster bisque, and a fish po' boy. Everything was hot and fresh, and the cajun fries especially had a nice crunch and flavor. I think the po' boy could have used more sauce, and I consider it the weakest of what we got flavor-wise. Surprisingly, the bisque was really, really good! I'm not usually a fan of it, but this is probably one of the few places that make it in a way I love - it was creamy, savory, and a good amount. We'll come back when we have another seafood craving!

We wanted to thus drink because it was traditional to do so, would be comforting, and we wanted to both celebrate surviving it, in the case of my mom literally. My favorite type of wine is Albariño, it is a white wine native to Portugal (where it is known as Alvarinho) and Northwestern Spanish region of Galicia. For those reading and interested, this is the taste profile according to The Spruce Eats: "Albariño is a dry white wine with aromas of citrus and peach. On the palate, the wine can exhibit characteristics of grapefruit, lemon peel, apricot, and sweet melon. Because the grapes tend to grow in coastal regions, they can also have a touch of salinity. Some wines may exhibit a slightly bitter finish, similar to citrus pith. Overall, albariño is light-bodied and low in tannins but high in acid. The high acidity makes this wine refreshingly mouth-watering and best served well-chilled." I used to have it quite often when I lived in Miami, but had become a difficult thing to find up here. I was in the past able to order a number of them through a local liquor store near my house, but that sometimes required large minimum orders and that can be a bit of a pain. So i started checking out or calling local liquor and wine stores in the area. I was about to throw my hands up and give up when I came into this Cap n' Cork. I made my way to the wine section and beheld albariño. So glad I finally found a place I can get some of this wine by the bottle. Excellent!
