Rib tips
Char D.

What a great spot!! We were visiting from out of town, and were looking for a new resturaunt to celebrate our 3 year anniversary together. One person recommended Chance Bar, so we made a reservation. While we were out to grab a drink for happy hour, our bartender said Chance Bar is in her top 2 favorite places in Fort Wayne. She gave us a few recommendations that got us even more excited to go! The atmosphere is so cozy and makes you want to stay a while. Our servers were so sweet, and helpful! They offered great menu suggestions. We couldn't make up our minds on what to get, so we shared a few different plates. We started with the beer bread- OH MY GOSH! So good!!! We then moved on to the Rib Tips! My mouth is still watering just thinking about them. We then shared the Spagehtti- so light and garlicky! Absolutely amazing. We ended with a flourless chocolate cake and the chef sent out his panna cotta. The chocolate cake was rich and smooth, and a bit tart with the orange marmalade. The panna cotta was light and buttery. Both were so good. We took our left overs to go, and are pumped for our taste buds to enjoy them tomorrow. Give Chance Bar a chance- you won't be sorry!

Pork spatzle

Food was made from scratch and delicious! Unique bar food, like watermelon fennel salad. Bacon hamburger was delicious and the pork spatzle was divine! Service was tremendous and ambiance was cozy. Definitely a must for foodies!

We chose Chance Bar for dinner this Saturday with friends. Loved the atmosphere, which still holds reminders of when this building housed one of our favs, Hartley's, but now with an updated attitude! We were warmly welcomed by the host and immediately ushered to our reserved linen covered table. Our server was FABULOUS! Friendly but not intrusive, knowledgeable re: the menu, efficient, attentive, and patient with any questions we asked. Can't say enough about the wonderful job she did! Our table shared appetizers including the Hungarian Mushroom Soup with paprika, garlic, and parsley (pictured). Yum! Husband had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken "Sammy", Korean-inspired and with an apple slaw (pictured). One of our friends had the German-Style Mac-n-cheese (pictured). And two of us had the Wood Farms double bacon cheeseburger, mine without the bun, the other with bun (both pictured). Three GIANT onion rings accompanied the burgers. EVERYTHING we had was delicious. Well-prepared and presented. Kudos to the chef! At end of our meal, the chef-owner visited our table and thanked us for coming. How often does that happen? So gracious! Truly, a special evening...and we will definitely be back!

Much better food & service than we even expected. Highly recommend! Parking lot located in back.

Gnocchi

Spectacular. Food is delicious. Wife and I went Friday night. I got the pho meatballs and my wife got the gnocchi. Both dishes were extraordinary. The pho had so much flavor in the dish. One of our favorite spots.

Such an incredible find! The food here is fantastic, and I appreciate the variety with their seasonal menu. I'll definitely return to explore more dishes.

Oysters and grilled sweet potatoes.

Just get the burger and get it over with. Best in Ft. Wayne. They're grilled sweet potatoes are to die for.

To die for rib tips in a sticky sweet and tangy sauce. A must have!

We had a beautiful and delicious experience at Chance Bar! A group of five of us went on a half-priced wine Wednesday night over the holidays. We sat in the back room which was beautifully decorated and they were playing "Die Hard" on the TV which was beyond awesome. We ordered so many amazing things, and the service was top-notch. Steak tartare: this was the best I've ever had! It was a generous portion, perfectly seasoned and so flavorful. The plating was stunning! I'll order this every time. Liver pate: I'm a liver pate junkie, and this liver pâté sent me over the moon. The texture was so creamy and the liver flavor was present without being too overpowering. The accompaniments really paired well with the richness of the liver and made for a beautiful plate. The crostini's were perfectly toasty. I love a good crostini! Rib tips: these were out of this world! If you're feeling crummy, come in for a beer or glass/bottle of wine and these rib tips will set straight. Perfectly cooked, tender yet crispy in all the right spots, and the sticky, sweet and tangy sauce should be in my bathtub! Because I want to bathe in it. Cheeseburger: it was yummy! Great quality beef. The hand-breaded onion rings were hearty yet light and airy. Fried chicken sandwich: this was dynamite! Perfectly cooked, tender chicken, crispy skin... loved the bun too! Beet salad: delectably balanced and fresh. I get this every time. Pairs well with just about anything. Blackened fish: this fish (can't remember which kind of fish) was perfectly blackened with nutty and rich roasted brussel sprouts. Overall, it was a magical dining experience. The wait staff was so friendly and on point. The wine was delicious. The ambiance was so inviting and warm, like a big hug from an old friend. We have found a regular spot for family meals and quick bites or drinks with friends. We love Chance Bar!

Messy, but tasty chicken sandwich

My wife and I finally got a 'chance' to check out Chance. The location on Fairfield used to be Hartley's back in the day. This is a casual establishment with a local, neighborhood feel to it. The Caesar salad had an anchovi based based dressing that was good, but might not be liked by all. My wife can't turn down fresh corn chowder and it was tasty. The meatloaf sounded tasty, but they were out. Plan B was the chicken sandwich. Great flavor in every bite, but a little messy. Delicious potato "fries" on the side. My wife had the trout and loved everything about the entire dish. Filled donuts with raspberry sauce to round out the evening. Make sure you continue to support these local places! :)

It seems like a nice place but our experience, particularly food, wasn't great. Service was good,…read moreour waiter was patient and friendly as we came as a party of 6 plus kids. What left me puzzled is food. What I loved were fries, round shaped which I thought was rather unusual and just the right amount of salt, crispiness, softness inside. That's about it though. As a main dish I picked prosciutto focaccia and while on paper it looked great, it came out very dry, almost stale, I didn't enjoy it at all. While fries were great, the portion of it was tiny. Like, 10 or 11 fries in a small plate. My partner got a chicken sandwich and it was good. Now, the kids got kids burger which comes with fries too and I swear the kids plate had double the fries compared to my side. We also got kids pasta and it was the same size as someone's pasta from our party. I mean, great value for kids menu items, sure, but I'm just not sure why adult dishes are so slim compared to kids. When they brought the check we noticed two items in it that we didn't order, which we realized after paying for it and looking at the receipt (they use portable terminals and have an option to text you the receipt). Our server corrected the mistake and refunded the difference for the two items we didn't order promptly after we pointed it out but this still left a bad aftertaste for us; we don't always look at receipts and this one would've gone unnoticed for sure, we only looked because total seems a bit too high. I also noticed that the soup upcharge on the menu is $2, but on the check it was $3. Pointed it out to the server too but she didn't do anything about it. It's just a dollar so we didn't press for it, and again, only noticed it because we started looking at the receipt due to unusually high total. Anyway, it was nice to visit, but we won't be back.

We had BBQ shrimp, crab cakes and hush puppies for apps. They were all tasty. Filet mignon was tender and flavorful. That, with the potatoes and greens that came with it, were on the heavy/rich end of the spectrum, so if you don't like that you might want to sub a baked potato. People also liked the salmon with risotto and the cranberry chicken. My husband did not like the seafood pasta. Nice, cozy atmosphere, good service and food.

The Oyster Bar - 130 years of history for this iconic seafood establishment…read more The Oyster Bar is not for everyone. It is expensive. The restaurant only holds about 50 dinners and the tables are uncomfortably small & close together. It's also located in a neighborhood that might make some people take caution. On the flip side...The Oyster Bar offers 130 years of history in a uniquely older facility that features fresh high quality seafood along with outstanding service. You decide what you value and how you want to spend your dinning dollars. The Oyster Bar is located south of downtown area on Calhoun Street. The vintage building is well signed, lighted and offers an easy-in-easy-out side parking lot. The restaurant only holds about 50 dinners with a limited number of tables and a small bar. I would suggest that you call and make a reservation as The Oyster Bar is a fairly popular place to dine. Inside the building has retained the historic look. The foyer is very small...just like walking into an old house. They feature lots of dark hardwoods and a vintage looking bar. The tables are located very close together as you would expect in a small area. I think the tables are smaller in size as it was difficult to accommodate all the dishes, menus, glasses and cell phones. The white table linens and attractive "sea going" decor help set the experience. The staff on this night was very friendly, professional and helpful. They made us feel welcomed quickly. The waitress was great about removing dishes, refills and stopping to check on us. It's easier when all your tables are close together. Overall the food was excellent. Fresh seafood in Fort Wayne isn't common place. The food creations were delicious & creative without being all that unique. You will find a fairly broad menu to meet most dinner's choices. Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Calm Chowder: very creamy without being overly rich to taste; moderately thick in consistency with a mild clam flavor; several larger pieces of clam meat; very good taste -Oysters on the half shell: beautiful presentation; oysters were fresh taste; no salty or "sea" tastes/smells; a small dab of sweet cocktail sauce and ground horseradish were nice add; oysters were outstanding!! -Fried Hushpuppies: no corn meal breading here. The outside was lightly fried and slightly oily to taste. The inside was slightly sweet, soft and moist. The chipotle aioli sauce has a very mild southwestern flavor that accented the sweet breading. -Crab Cakes: two fairly large cakes packed with real crab meat; gently fried; the fresh seafood flavors come through nicely; another very good dish! -Seafood Au Gratin: plenty of chunks of scallops and crab buried in a delicious lobster cream sauce and layer of mozzarella cheese. The sauce was creamy and mild without being rich. The seafood pieces retained their original flavor. The cheese topping was nice and gooey which held the seafood & sauce together nicely. Delicious dish!! -Diver Scallops: large and plump scallops cooked perfectly; very tender and moist without a "fishy" taste - nicely done!! I very much enjoyed the dinning experience. I love restaurants that retain and feature an older buildings character. I appreciate high levels of service and outstandingly delicious food. Especially when it comes to fresh seafood!!

His current venture, Bistro Nota, is great, but has a couple of flaws. First, let's talk about what's good. Mainly it's the food, which is uniformly and consistently excellent. Flavors and textures are spot on and portions are generous. The wait staff are well-trained, attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. Decor is basic, but the room is comfortable and the background music is well-chosen and at just the right sound level. The flaws are mainly two. First, the menu never changes. We've been patronizing the restaurant since it opened and are getting little tired of the same offerings. And for a person like myself, who doesn't eat red meat, the selections are even more limited as beef plays a major role on the menu. My conception of a fine dining restaurant (I don't know -- maybe Bistro Nota doesn't see itself as that) is one where you are offered a chance to discover something new at every visit. Bistro Nota doesn't fill that criterion. Second, the dessert menu is abysmal. Typically you have the options of a chocolate chip cookie or a blondie. From time to time the restaurant will offer a "special" dessert (there was a tasty pot de creme a couple of weeks ago), but they never stay around and you have to be pretty lucky to be there when one is offered. For a restaurant with such high quality apps and mains, the limited dessert menu seems like a major flaw. Right now Bistro Nota is very good, really nice, a reasonable option for those looking for some really tasty food. With some attention these two criticisms, Bistro Nota could really elevate itself to something special that would rival anything to be found anywhere in northeast Indiana.
