One of my favorite low key Michelin restaurants in DC. It so nice for breakfast on weekends and dinner! I have their menu down to a key and you might even spot me here! I love the grilled bread with ricotta, fried cauliflower, gnocchi, hanger steak, and Vietnamese roasted chicken. Oh man just writing this makes me want to go over and eat a yummie meal! Daphnis and Chloé is a romantic tale by the ancient Roman writer Longus that has inspired scores of painters, sculptors, poets, choreographers and composers. It tells the story of a young boy named Daphnis and a girl named Chloe on the Greek Isle of Lesbos who gradually fall in love as they grow up. And like the story, I gradually fell in love with this restaurant as the meal progressed. I don't know if this story also inspired Haidar Karoum to launch Chloé, but it could have. We started with the ricotta which was delicate and slightly salty-sweet. Good bread but we should have asked for more. Brussel sprouts and cauliflower followed, both were full of flavor but not over-seasoned or vinegared. Also loved the grilled scallions. Onwards to fish. We made a reservation for Valentine's Day and Chloe was a great choice. Everything was good there was just some tiny things to note. Waking in... the service was excellent. Our waitress was superb. It would have been nice if they put out some flowers or decorations for some romance ...but the swanky feel in here makes up for that. The food was terrific. Highlights include the vegetable dishes and the ricotta and the gnocchi. Oh wow that gnocchi!! So delicious. Probably the best I've had. The table bread was toasted too greasy as it is and to serve it simply with olive oil is a sham. Skip the table bread and order a cheese instead like ricotta or burrata. The steak chimichurri was disappointing. The meat was chewy and the sauce was not at all what we expected. This was our least favorite dish. I would definitely come back. And maybe try out brunch! The caramelized cauliflower and the hamachi crudo were delicious, I would get it again. The cauliflower was cooked perfectly and the sauce on it was great. The hamachi crudo was fresh and the flavors were amazing. The jewel yams & wild mushrooms were good but I felt that it was a bit over seasoned, which made the fish in contrast pretty bland. We will skip those two dishes next time, but we will be back to try more of the other dishes! read more

A must-go in DC!! Came here for valentines day dinner. They had a really delicious-looking Valentine's Day menu for $65/person, but not a lot of vegetarian options so we opted to just order off the menu! The dishes we ordered were: fresh ricotta, caramelized cauliflower, grilled path valley scallions, Norwegian salmon. My favorite was definitely the fresh ricotta and the most interested was the scallions! Yes, it was just a plate of scallions with sauce, but it was surprisingly delicious. Also, the caramelized cauliflower was like "calamari, but for vegetarians" so it was divine as well. BF said the salmon was delicious and well-cooked too. Would definitely come back here! Highly recommend this place if you're looking to treat yourself to an amazing meal! This meal was definitely pricy, but worth it! Also liked how small and unique their menu is- they really perfected every dish that we had. They also stagger the plates so that you can fully enjoy the food in front of you. My cousin and I together ordered 7 dishes (6 small plates & 1 dessert) for a total of $130 (including tax & tip). Be willing to spend a lot of more if you want to drink as well because the drinks are not cheap. We ordered: - Fresh Ricotta (9.5/10) - Whipped Chicken Liver Mousse (9.5/10) - Spicy Veal Hummus (9/10) - Penne (9/10) - Roasted Jewel Yams & Wild Mushrooms (8.5/10) - Potato Gnocchi (11/10) - Manchego Cheesecake (10/10) My favorite was the potato gnocchi, which came in the most amazing sage-brown butter sauce. The texture of the gnocchi is comparable to dishes I've had in Italy, and the flavor is so unique. Some other favorites were the fresh ricotta & the whipped chicken liver mousse. Food was very good. We got the grilled bread, corn, penne pasta, and steak; 10/10 recommend. Service was god awful. I think they only had 1 or 2 servers in the whole place. Took about 15 min for our server to greet us. Most of the food came BEFORE the drinks. The steak took about 30-40 min total to come out. We went to Chloe last summer, in the middle of the pandemic. They had just opened up for outdoor dining and everything was perfect. Our favorite dish was Hamachi crudo and the peas gnocchi! Such an explosion of flavors! Ky husband absolutely loved the crispy roasted tahini cauliflower. If ever in DC, I highly recommend it! Also, the atmosphere is elegant & inviting and during Covid-19 they did such an amazing job at adhering to social distancing rules while still offering an outstanding service. We arrived pretty late in the evening. The place was pretty packed, but we were seated very quickly. I really like the vibe of the place. It was very moody since that day it was raining outside. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. The place was a bit loud. I ordered the pork Berkshire pork chop. The middle of the pork seemed a bit under cooked, but since it was very late (after 10:30pm), I decided to not bother the kitchen staff. The sautéed rapini had a good bite, and the balsamic glaze complemented the cooked parts of the pork chop. I decided to take my portion to go and reheated it on a skillet. Reservation for two at 10pm , arrived slightly early and was seated promptly. The interior is brick based with hanging gardens surrounding the open concept kitchen. Watching the chef prepare meals in front of you creates a different appreciation for your food when you can see the effort someone makes to create your dish. The waitress explained the whole menu and was very polite. The cauliflower was very good slightly salty I believe the sauce over powered the dish slightly but still yummy. Please please order the Penne Pasta it's amazing and you will not be disappointed. The tenderloin was bathed in curry inspired sauces. Cooked to perfection. The crispy fish was huge and very juicy, although looking over cooked it was not, served with salsa verde. My drink was strong and flavorful. I don't give many 5 star ratings, but Chloe is more than deserving. Truly outstanding small plates with a mixture of culinary influences from Europe and Asia. The restaurant is located in Arris building near Tingey St about a block north of District Winery. We started out with the burrata. The cheese was beautiful in texture and flavor. Super creamy with a nice brine. It was paired with panzanella, roasted squash, parsnips, honey crisp apple, and pecans. Lots going on here with both texture and flavor. All balanced with a nicely acidic cider vinaigrette. Just a great all around starter. Next up we had the grilled scallions. They had a nice smoky char on them and were dressed in a perfect romesco sauce with a little shaved manchego cheese and some crushed marcona almonds. For proteins we had the house garlic sausage and the norwegian salmon. The sausage was super tasty for any garlic fan and was paired with eye of the tiger beans, crushed cornbread, and pickled kale. The beans were perfectly cooked with ham hocks and had a smoky/salty flavor. They were cooked through, but not mushy. The fish was perfectly seared and moist. This dish came with wild mushrooms, fingerling potatoes, roasted cauliflower, and fennel cream. The fennel cream was just amazing. Finished off with the best meyer lemon tart ever! It's just way too overpriced for what you get. If you're going for drinks and just want some light apps, it's more fitting than for a full meal, but it won't be cheap. I couldn't have had a better time at Chloe! We ordered the mediterranean hero and crispy lemongrass chicken and split both to make the most of the menu, which looked amazing from top to bottom. The mediterranean hero was bursting with flavor and was a perfect mix of textures - I especially loved the caramelized cauliflower. The crispy chicken was similarly perfect; the crispy skin on the chicken definitely lived up to its name! I even loved my Vietnamese coffee, despite not usually being a cold brew person. And I can't forget the banana bread - it was the perfect indulgent sweet to round out our savory brunch, and that's not to say that it was overly sweet, because it really was perfectly balanced. Nice, lovely atmosphere. The brunch menu is mostly composed of plates to share. We had the soft scrambled eggs with wild mushrooms and goat cheese; the tortilla española with roasted red peppers; the salmon toast with cucumber, avocado and dill; and old bay potatoes. Everything was well made and high quality. We also had the bloody Mary's, which were surprisingly spicy. I love spicy but these were almost over the top. Tamarind spritz: I wanted to try something different instead of my usual cocktails, so I opted for a mock tail! I thought it complimented the dishes but nothing too memorable. Heirloom tomatoes: fresh and zesty. A perfect summer pick me up. Penne pasta: pasta was al dente and the dish was very well seasoned. Fresh ricotta: my favorite item on the menu. The ricotta cheese with the peaches really made my day. Overall: Chloe is a beautiful restaurant in Navy Yard. All the dishes are tapa styled, but are priced at normal sized dishes. Came here for brunch in October and sat outside with a friend. We ordered a bunch of different items, all of which were awesome. Some of my favorites: -Churros. So good! Loved the size and the chocolate dipping sauce -Cauliflower. I'm obsessed with cauliflower anyway but this cauliflower was so, so tasty. The tahini and pine nuts were incredible -Potatoes. Huge fingerling potatoes, great cream sauce underneath -Biscuit/egg dish with gravy on bottom - biscuit was heavenly! The service was really friendly and our waiter was always ready with suggestions. Came here randomly and was shocked to have so many delicious vegan options, and a waiter who knew exactly how to veganize the menu. Best: They served the hummus with mushrooms instead of lamb to make it vegan and omg it was amazing. The hummus was sooooo creamy and smooth, and the mushrooms were exactly what you always pray mushrooms to be. I ordered a second round of this. Also great: crispy fingerling potatoes with the aioli on the side (aioli not vegan). This is what I want potatoes to be every time. The perfect potatoes. So crispy crunchy salty so good. If you want a Michelin star restaurant experience without breaking the bank, Chloe is the place for you. I thought the food was extremely reasonably priced for the quality and atmosphere of the restaurant. Aesthetically, the space was beautiful and perfectly designed to cater to both intimate date nights and larger parties. The menu is set up as a small plates menu, with the dishes getting larger the further down the menu you go. They also offer a prefix option, which was incredibly tempting, but we decided to select the plates for ourselves. The service was exceptional, and our waiter made sure we were finished with our food before the kitchen started on the next course. We started with the Ahi Tuna Tartare, which was a favorite of the night. It was super light and flavorful. I loved the texture of the crunchy seaweed "chips" combined with the ahi tuna. The caramelized cauliflower was also exceptional, and my favorite take on cauliflower I've ever tasted. The flavors were just incredible, and the toasted pine nuts lent a great crunch to the dish. Lastly, we got the penne pasta and the short rib pasta. The penne was good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. The short rib on the other hand was sensational. The meat itself melted in your mouth, and the homemade pasta noodles were perfectly cooked. This was a seasonal special, and I would highly recommend ordering this if it's still on the menu. There were two of us, and we ended up with quite a few leftovers. The pastas were both fairly large portion sizes. Lastly, I had Midnight & Moras cocktail, which was delicious. Mitch Buchannon which is like an old fashioned with with some lemon and old bay. We started with the caramelized cauliflower and WOW it was the best cauli I've ever had! So flavorful! The fresh ricotta was served with warm bread, greens, and fresh peaches. It was incredible! The salmon was, and so was the gnocchi and penne pasta. The penne is served with pork ragout and I'm a meat lover so this was my favorite! Our server was so helpful, great at giving recommendations, and was great at keeping a good distance. Great restaurant! We enjoyed everything we got! From the bread to the salmon, it was very tasty. The Burrata was delicious as was the salmon, the cauliflower was a bit salty for our liking. The sauce for the penne was so good for seconds. We sat outside and we were not the only one with kids, I'd say it's good for kids who can handle this environment. My friends and I had dinner at Chloe last night and it was hands down one of the most delicious meals I've eaten at a restaurant in a while. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxing meal with friends -- not dim enough to be romantic and not loud enough to be a casual hangout spot. I love that this place has an open kitchen and that I could see Executive Chef Karoum working alongside the other cooks to produce each dish. The menu consisted of a selection of small and large plates that are designed to be shared. Our waiter recommended ordering at least three dishes per person, so my two friends and I ordered the broiled local oysters, sheep's milk ricotta, cobia crudo, seafood gumbo, quinoa crusted Norwegian salmon, russet potato gnocchi, roasted kaleidoscope carrots & parsnips, crispy cauliflower, and spice roasted chicken. My favorites were the oysters and cobia crudo. I could have easily eaten both of those dishes by myself. I'm normally not a huge fan of ricotta cheese; however, the sheep's milk ricotta cheese was creamy and added some pizzazz to the house made bread. The seafood gumbo was hearty and spicy. The carrots and parsnips dish added a sweet, crunchy bite to our meal. Finally, the potato gnocchi was hearty and unexpectedly good. I would order most of the dishes again; however, I'd pass on the chicken which although moist with a nice crispy skin was nothing special. I'd also pass on the salmon which was perfectly cooked but accompanied by some extra crunchy quinoa that did not appeal to my tastebuds. Finally, I'd pass on the cauliflower which seems to be a popular dish at Chloe but wasn't as tasty as other cauliflower dishes I've eaten elsewhere. Overall, Chloe hit the mark.
