I have tried their sushi from their old location (next to the cherry hill supermarket), and the sushi was good. 2 weeks ago, my husband and I visited their new location (much smaller in size as it use to be a bodega store) and the food was so disappointing. The quality of their food has deteriorated that I would give them an award for being one of the worst places to eat. Yes it was that bad! If you don't believe me, come eat here and decide for yourself. The food was not cheap, and it was just mind boggling for us to pay such price for mediocre food. We ordered a lot of different types of sushi, eel w/ rice entree, chicken skewer and fried oysters. The quality of the sushi rice was poor, soggy and warm. The items inside the sushi was mediocre and did not taste fresh. All the sushi we ate were horrible, not one was passing - the sushi from their old location was much better. The chicken skewer (yakitori) was one of the worst - it was basically soggy boiled chicken breast pieces on a stick w/ tons of teriyaki sauce on the plate and decorated w/ 2 piece of glazed cherries. That was not a yakitori - they should rename their menu and change it to "not yakitori but boiled soggy chicken piece on stick..beware". The eel w/ rice entree was another disappointment. It was one of the worst eel w/ rice I have ever consumed. The eel was the worst quality and had a weird aftertaste, and the rice was drowned in too much sauce (and they had to decorate the plate w/ 2 random glazed cherries). At their old location, there was no random glazed cherry decorations on the plate. For some reason they started adding these glazed cherries and I think it is a horrible idea. The cherries don't taste good, and does not complement the food - I think it's a waste. The fried oysters were a bit on the soggy side also, and had a weird taste. Service was ok. Food came out fast. Minimum of $10 for credit card charge. This place was so disappointing that we will not be coming back here. read more

It seems like they just want to get rid of old fish that's been sitting there during this health crisis. I guess I'm one of the unlucky customers that gets it. When I arrived they told me it would take 3 more minutes and they made me wait another 15-20 minutes. I enjoy their food but I want to give you a heads up on their wait time. The restaurant definitely feels smaller, although I can't really comment on the actual square footage. The food is just as great as it was before, although I think a few of the items have gotten slightly more expensive. After reading some of the great reviews by follow yelpers, I had to give this place a try. I came on a Wednesday at 8:30 pm and there was no wait. We was seated and our waiter gave us the menu. The service is quick and fast because there's was not much other tables. I ordered 10 salmon sushi and the V-Roll. Love the sauce that was on the V-roll. It was sweet and sour but mixed in a good ratio. The salmon was very fresh. The only problem was for the salmon sushi the rice would fall apart very quickly. I highly recommend the V-roll. The price for Chikurin is very reasonable for someone that eat sushi. It was a $1 for sushi/sashimi. The service is good but they seem to rush us out the door a little today. Many many different types of rolls, so thats great for adventurous eater. I ordered the yaki vegetable udon, tasty but my plate was smothered in oil. I really liked the tea they offered! This has been my go-to sushi restaurant in Bensonhurst for the past few years and for good reason: it's delicious food for cheap, not to mention you have a crazy wide selection to choose from! The classic rolls are $2-3 a pop and while the special rolls are just a tad more expensive, they're sure to satisfy the curious palette and are surprisingly filling. Personally, I've never have to drop more than $15 here on 3-4 tasty rolls of sushi, depending on how I mix and match the classic & special rolls. The service is great. If you come here often enough, you'll find that the man working here is quick to notice the sushi you like and he'll suggest it the next time you come in to order. Definitely knows how to make you feel like a prioritized customer! I usually order my food to go, but I've also dined in a good number of times and I can say that it's a homely experience, not like any other neighborhood joint where you simply come in, eat your food, and leave -- here at Chikurin, you're taken care of. The food presentation is always on point and the wait staff is prompt on refilling your tea (it's free and it's the bomb, seriously I drink at least three cup-fulls whenever I come here). The only thing I would avoid are the entree dishes eg. rice and noodles, which I've tried on multiple occasions and are pretty dry in terms of flavor and only average at best. Otherwise, I highly recommend this place if you're in the area!! I have been dining in and getting take out as well as delivery for as long as I remember from this place. Its been consistently good and very inexpensive. Their happy hour sushi, lunch specials as well as regular menu items are prices so low, they are no where near what the competition around offers. You would think that at these prices they would skimp out on the food by giving you smaller portions of meat and larger portions of rice, well it isn't so at all. The fish is very fresh and comes at a nicely sliced price on a sushi or sashimi. The rolls are nice and chunky where you dont have to look for the fish hidden inside the rice. They deliver food always quickly and never mess up the order, no matter on how complicated it gets. On a rare occasion they did screw up a delivery they immediately offered credit which they use a computer system linking your address to the phone # provided, as another added bonus, I never have to struggle giving them my address over the phone while placing an order. They already have it on file. Finding parking can get problemmatic but what do you expect as they are on a really busy street. I suggest going a block or two and walk if you cant find parking right away. read more

MY FAVE SUSHI RESTAURANT IN BENSONHURST. Not only is this sushi restaurant affordable, but it is also tasty. The basic rolls start at 2.50 & this isn't one or two rolls, but like ten so you have a lot to choose from(maybe I'm exaggerating a bit). I would recommend the cold noodles as a cheap filler that you can split between two if you don't want to spend so much on sushi or you're not a big fan of raw fish. I also like to come here for their lunch specials which I believe is only 6ish for their 2 roll combo that comes with soup AND salad. The service is very friendly. My best friend comes here a lot with her family, and they sometimes give her free fried ice-cream. For the area i'd say the sushi is of better quality. Great price with a large menu of sushi and rolls. Stick to the specialty rolls though as those are the ones that tasted great and had good value. The sashimi also was fresh and of good value. Sit in i'd say was a little standard towards sub par. Nothing special and a bit run down. Take out was good. Delicious rolls, so much variety, fresh sashimi, good prices, good place to go. The only reason why I knocked down one star is because their wasabi sucks. I love eating wasabi with raw sushi. I had to put so much into my soy sauce but it still wasn't spicy enough or it didn't have enough wasabi flavor. They need to throw out whatever brand they're using. All the basic rolls (standard california etc) were all below $3.50 some rolls were even under $3. It's so amazing to see these prices even I'm Brooklyn. Next up: portions. This place is the real deal, they don't have you some sized sushi pieces. The pieces of sushi are average if not larger than average. I walked out of this place so full! The service was prompt and they food came out all at the same time. Bottom line: I would recommend this place to my friends who live out of town. Chikurin is one of my favorite restaurants. I've been coming here for a couple of years now, but I really think the quality of the food has gone up recently. I'm a sushi lover and I tend to order a lot of sushi pieces. My favorite is salmon--simple but so yummy! Yet, so many places tend to disappoint. Not here! I've noticed recently that the sushi pieces are more fresh. The salmon literally melts in your mouth and makes you want more and more. Sometimes I order the tempura ice cream and the portions are huge! They give you two giant scoops for around $5 and it is GREAT for sharing. I wouldn't order that for myself because the second scoop can get soggy and it won't taste as good. The price of the sushi here is definitely very afforable. There are about 4 pages of special rolls and they pretty cheap compared to other places. Regular rolls are about 2.50 and sushi/sashimi pieces are only around $1. Some of them may have went up by a quarter or so. But so many choices! Pages of special rolls, udons, dinnerboxes, appetizers. YUM! The last time I had the kani salad, it was pretty skimpy for the price compared to other stuff on the menu though. They also pack delivery very nicely and provide you with everything you need. It tastes fresh, almost as if you were at the restaurant. Decor is nice and comfortable. It's nothing fancy, but its a good environment to have a conversational meal. Service is okay; they are really nice people and are usually prompt with your orders. But if it gets busy, it may take a little longer sometimes. For their special rolls, despite paying $11-15 for a roll, they were made with such cheap quality toppings and extremely tiny. The special rolls had only 4-5 pieces and they are half of the normal roll size. They barely had any fish and they were stuffed with cheap stuff crab sticks. Biggest waste of my $60!!! read more

This is by far one of my favorite sushi restaurants in all of Brooklyn. I even introduced this place to a few of my friends and they have loved it as well. I was originally loyal to the Chikurin on Ocean Avenue but then discovered this one while walking down 86th street. Since this was much closer, I decided to eat here and the quality/service is just as great as the one on Ocean Avenue - this place is a little smaller though. Price is very reasonable here with most classic rolls at $2.50-$3.00. Sushi/sashimi a la carte ranges from $1.00 for the standard pieces to $3.00 for the fancier pieces. The sushi/sashimi a la carte comes decently sized and looks fresh. The lunch special is 2 rolls with a soup and salad for $5.95 and 3 rolls with soup and salad for $7.95. They also have other options for their lunch special such as chicken teriyaki, tempura, etc. I've eaten here during both lunch and dinner and the service is always great especially midday weekdays. I've also had this delivered multiple times and the food always comes neatly packaged in tin boxes with the pink ginger, wasabi and soy sauce on the side. They have never messed up any of my orders and they come within reasonable time. Really one of the best and inexpensive sushi places in all of New York. read more

Including the bagel roll, which is not something I see a lot of places. I forgot exactly all that I got, but it was freshly made and delicious. So this place is good, really good actually, and I was planning on leaving a 5 star review as I order from here multiple times a week. So why the 1 star review? Well! I ordered lunch from here today-Kani Salad, Florida Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Rock n' Roll, and Spicy Scallop Hand Roll. I ordered through GrubHub as I always do, and when the food arrived, I opened it up ready to dig in. However, I received a Spicy Tuna Hand Roll instead of a Spicy Scallop Roll. Overall no big deal, but not what I ordered, so I contacted GrubHub and got refunded for the roll, and sat down and ate my lunch. About 20 minutes later, I get a call from the restaurant, from a seriously bitchy worker, who tells me to send her a picture of the Spicy Tuna Roll. I was like what? I ate it...it's been like 20 minutes...and she goes off on me for contacting GrubHub, who I ordered through, instead of the restaurant and basically calling me a liar because I don't have a picture of the roll that THEY messed up, and then said "If you do it again we won't deliver to you." I laughed and said you have nothing to worry about lady because I will not be giving my business to your restaurant anymore. Customer Service goes a long way. Learn some, and don't fuck up orders and then blame the customer for your mistake. Sushi places are a dime a dozen in Brooklyn. Trust me, you won't be missed. read more

I've been here twice before and remember the first time being more of a hit. I came here again recently and ordered off of the lunch menu because the prices cannot be beat, plus they come with miso soup, salad, and a bowl of rice. I ordered the sashimi lunch ($8.95), shrimp tempura and vegetable lunch ($5.50), and the sushi lunch w/ 2 rolls ($5.50). I also ordered a V-roll (6.95?) after reading the good reviews on it. While the prices on everything was a catch, I didn't really feel like quality was that great. The V roll I personally did not enjoy. The eel tasted rubbery and pickled to some extent - now I'm not sure if that's what it was supposed to taste like, but I'm used to my eel being soft. The other rolls were mediocre, taste like any other roll you pay $3 for. Shrimp tempura was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. My favorite part has gotta be the salmon sashimi, it just melted in my mouth and tasted unbelievably fresh. Despite ordering 3 lunches for 2 people, we managed to save room for dessert. We had the tempura ice cream (red bean). It was ok... the red beans in the ice cream was hard, not mashed like I'm used to. And there was no whipped cream (my personal preference) which was another disappointment. As far as service, it was pretty good.. (contrary to what others wrote on their reviews), but it was probably because we went at noon right after the opened and we were the only ones there for the first half of our meal. If you are looking for a sushi place which won't break your budget, come here - but keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Will I be back? I used to be a long time customer at Chikurin. However, recently their service and sushi went downhill. I always order the spicy tuna rolls and I notice they are not as fresh anymore. I went there for dinner with a friend and it was a bad experience. Our waitress was always MIA. When she did arrive with my order for chicken tempura roll, she gave shrimp tempura. Keep in mind, I told her I was allergic to shellfish prior to ordering and told her that the tempura batter shouldn't be mix with shrimp. I gave Chikurin another go today. I went to pickup an order and I asked for spicy mayo on the side. The hostess barked it costs $1 extra. I knew that since I was a regular customer not anymore. Went for sushi here with a friend and had nothing to complain about. The place didn't have that foul fish odor that some sushi places carry. They have pages and pages and pages worth of special rolls. It was super hard to choose. Haha. We ordered three special rolls. One of them was a 'mango lobster salad' roll which had it's own sauce drizzled over it. Another one we ordered was one with crab meat with avocado with the little egg balls on top. I forget what the third one was but I do remember it being pretty good. :) The tables around us got actual entrees with sizzling beef and rice entrees and it just all smelled so darn good. It's been pretty hot these past few weeks and when it's hot, I don't want anything hot to eat nor do I want to cook for myself. I been on a serious sushi kick during this hot and humid weather and because of that I decided to give Chikurin another chance and it's also about a 2 minute walk from my home. The quality of the food has improved! I usually get the any two or three roll lunch special and/or a kani salad. The quality of the rolls are okay, but not great. Sometimes it looks like they don't put much effort into making it because there were instances where the roll kind of falls apart. One specific sushi roll I been falling in love with is the salmon roll with crunch. I normally don't eat raw fish, but I seriously been hooked on this. It's really good and I am glad I don't taste or smell any fishy-ness from the sushi. Overall, I am glad quality and customer service has improved. However, they are no match for my currently favorite sushi spot which is about another 15 minutes from my house. I wouldn't come here for a sushi/dinner fest, but it serves it's purpose if you want lunch or a late lunch., but as for dinner I wouldn't really recommend this place. read more

Anywhere I go in South Brooklyn a Chikurin is not far I might be mistaken but the Chikurin on Ocean ave may have been the first 50% off sushi place I have ever seen back in the day. A complete surprise! I've eaten at Chikurin twice before tonight and always thought there was nothing too special compare to my favorite sushi restaurant, Tenzan. But, I have to tell you I can't determine which one is my fave anymore. I came here with a friend for an early dinner and we ordered (based on other yelp reviews and just by description): -Spicy Salmon Bowl- if you love avocado and spicy salmon then you MUST order it! My friend and I absolutely loved it and is already talking about going back for it in a couple of days! -V Roll- this one is eel, avocado, and raw salmon. The salmon just melts in your mouth and the flavor is just so tasty combined! - Golden Eel Roll- this was a little disappointing. Probably not their fault though cause mango isn't in season. The roll is mango on top with salmon and avocado. Taste wise, everything didn't really go well with each other. - Pink Lady- can't remember what was in this roll but it's something that I always end up ordering.
