I visited after a nearby appointment and was just hungry for any food to bring home after ordering the weight was really long, but I appreciated that the food was all made to order. The chicken breading was thick crispy in the chicken, very juicy and tender. I was telling my wife this is how KFC would like to imagine itself. The fries were slightly over seasoned, but I appreciated the size texture and freshness. I also thought the coleslaw paired perfectly with the thick crispy breading on the chicken. I'd just wrapped up work on a Wednesday night. It was just after 9pm. I wanted food near me, and I wanted it fast. Chicken G's fit the bill! I'm not halal but I will take halal fried chicken (particularly Chicken G's) any day! You can order online or in-person. I ordered in-person and my sandwich was ready to-go in under 10 minutes (the time they'd given me as an estimate for how long it'd take.) Service was wonderful--shoutout to my server, Anthony. Friendly and helpful despite being busy. I ordered the Naughty-Chick sandwich and chose seasoned fries as the side ($18ish with tax and tip). Everything was delicious. The halal fried chicken was HUGE, succulent, moist, crispy, tender, fresh, and deliciously spicy. The bun was warm and the sauce was flavorful but did not overpower or overwhelm the chicken, which is the main attraction. I loved the pepper jack cheese! This will be two meals for me (but I needed to practice self-control--it was so good.) While I waited, I enjoyed the complimentary chai. It was warm and sweet, but not overly-so. I'm not sure why there are so many 1-star reviews on top of some very good reviews here. The place was busy at an off-time. There was a sweet family of 4 (3 kids) sitting in the back and when they left, they were raving and complimenting the 3 men working (1 was about to take his break.) I overheard them talking and learned that Chicken G's has 2 other Bay Area locations, including Fremont and Mountain View. There's quite a bit of seating inside. There's a very large plush comfy tufted leather couch that I wish I had in my living room. I feel like when I was looking at leather couches, I wanted one just like it, but my fellow Yelp Elite mom said no, it'd be out of place. I didn't think the one here in downtown SF was out of place! Very delicious creamy and thick mac and cheese. The chicken was actually slightly too fried for my taste and fried chicken is my favorite food. Delicious G sauce. I got the Naughty Chick with pepper jack Serrano peppers - excellent component to the chicken. Huge sandwich big enough for two people or to save for later. My buddy and I were actually in the area last week and he wanted to stop in to try the Salaam Cola that I told him Chicken G's offers (it's a halal brand of soda). However, as we approached, it looked liked they were closed, so we were just going to go on our way without giving it much thought. That is, until he apparently saw something on the door and looked into it. Per an article on SFGate from 9/8/2025, the Health Department closed Chicken G's starting on Thursday, 9/4/2025, due to code violations and an "active vermin infestation". Which, I imagine, might have already been going on back when we first ate here. I guess, while their chicken might be halal, it doesn't sound like the facilities were very clean. Even though Chicken G's issues are not unique to them, in hindsight, I'm not surprised they had them either. I didn't go into great detail in my original review, but this place isn't exactly super clean. I didn't see it until after we had finished eating, but the lower level with the play area was kind of gross - everything looked dirty, the floor felt slick, and the bathroom was out of order. The tables in the upper dining area felt a bit greasy/oily as well, but, to be fair, it's somewhat expected at a fried chicken joint. Can't say the same for the rodent droppings that they seemingly found everywhere and their other violations, though. Hopefully things will be better going forward if/when they can get everything sorted out and cleaned. I just don't think I'll be back to find out for myself. read more

This was some of the crunchiest chicken I've had ever, so if you're a fan of the crunch - this is the spot to go. We hit this place up because their chicken is halal, which was fantastic since I was with someone who eats halal only. (Personally, I think the quality of halal meat is better, but that's a discussion for another time.) Regardless, the exterior of the chicken was extremely crunchy, while the interior was still nice and juicy. The man who helped us was also very kind and accommodating. He happily explained some of the menu items to us and easily adapted when we changed our order. He also gave us an estimated time and halfway opened our Jarritos for us to be able to take them back to our hotel since we didn't have a bottle opener. The only gripe I had was that the mac and cheese was bland and wasn't my favorite, but I won't dock them too much for that. I would just recommend getting fries or a different side. read more

This place is great! I arrived back at my hotel late one evening and decided to venture out to see what I could find. This place was perfect! Think sandwiches made with made to order fried chicken. The chicken was excellent and really crispy. Since it's Halal that added some great spice and flavor! We were working in the area when Chicken G's first opened, the food was great, we ate there 10+ times over 3 months. Not any more, this weeked was the last time. Went back two times over the last 2 month and I'm sorry to say, what a dump. The kitchen staff sits off to the side and the kitchen lights turn off, you would think they're closed. The staff coughing and not covering their mouths was not acceptable. The chicken sandwitch was good ($20). The chicken meal was way overpriced for 2 legs and 2 thighs ($30), but it was...ok. The kitchen was filthy, the tables were filthy, but the thing that made me go never again was the sewer pipes inside and outside the bathroom. They put covers on sewer pipes for a reason, to keep you from tripping and to keep the vermin from crawling into your building. Servings are generous- I just finished a sandwich and a side of cole slaw, and I'm not proud of myself [starts jogging in place]. Having tried both, I recommend the fried chicken over the sandwich- that beautiful, crispy chicken gets lost in soggy shredded lettuce and a very uninspired bun. And, since the bun is round and the chicken is a strip, you'll have almost as many chicken-less bites as not. It's a good lunch, though, and good for the price here in the Financial District. Horrible ive been 3 times to this exact location and ill never be back. Old grease all of the food has the same burnt grease smell / flavor. Its so dirty the last time i went the pineapple refresher tasted like onions. Food was extremely old. Old chicken they re fried to heat it. The worst is that my last time there 01/24/2026 1:45 pm. The employee gave another customer the wrong drink. He took it back and used the top of the cup to scoop the ice out with his hand (no gloves) then poured the drink back into the machine. Here at Chicken G's for the first time. They only serve chicken products. I'd say the bird is expertly fried. Golden and mightily crunchy. Made fresh. I like the pictures of the food items. Makes it easy to select something, since you can see a preview. The prices, steep. I ordered the Loaded Fries, and they were certainly loaded!!With lots of great toppings. With chicken and cheese and their signature sauces. It was enough for two people, for $15. More than I was expecting to pay, but thank goodness it was large/shareable. They close pretty late. Try to come in before ten though. Before they close off the dining area and mandate that all of the orders will be to-go. Customer service left much to be desired. No big deal though. Great place! When I ate my first few bites of my fried chicken and thought about what I'd write for this review, the word "mid" came to mind. As I kept eating....I decided this is just straight up below average. I ordered the Combo #1 that came with 1 chicken drumstick and 1 larger chicken piece, maybe a breast. It came with a Texas toast, and for my side I chose coleslaw. The fried chicken was dry as hell, and all the fried pieces fell off my chicken. There was some sort of flavor between the chicken meat and the breading that was super strange. It was overall very difficult to eat. I used a knife and nothing was working. The Texas toast was basic, not as good at Raising Cane's. The coleslaw was decent, a bit strong on the creaminess/dressing but probably the best thing I ate there. This is completely below average of any other fried chicken I've had. Jack-in-the-box, Popeye's, are way better. Walk yourself to SOMA to eat The Bird as it is eons better than Chicken G's. Service was slow too! I am compelled to leave a review. I ordered the "Naughty Chick," which came with a side (I chose fries). After ordering, the nice man at the counter gave me complimentary chai tea, which sounds off-theme for a fried chicken joint, but the establishment staff are middle eastern. The chai was excellent!! I would come back even just for the chai. I took my order home (to-go) and was very pleased to see that the portions were generous (relative to what I oftentimes observe in SF). The chicken was so fresh and perfectly deep-fried. The spice level on this sandwich was no joke. My lips were burning to the point that I had to pour myself a glass of almond milk on the side & pick off the Serrano peppers after eating about 1/5 of the sandwich. The fries were also pretty spicy, but they season the fries on the spot (from what I can tell), so I think you can ask them to do less spice on the fries when you order. They also threw in a variety of sauces on the side in my to-go bag. The yellow sauce was my favorite (and I believe it's the same one they put on the sandwich). Do not skip Chicken G's. Everything was chef's kiss. Including tax and 20% tip (and let's not forget the side of fries that came with), I paid $17.67 - great value for a very tasty, fresh lunch that left me feeling full. I'll be trying the regular (non-spicy) chicken sandwich next time to experience more of the chicken's flavor, rather than spice. So glad I stumbled upon this place on Yelp! read more

I saw the great reviews and knew I had to try this place. I also knew that portions seemed to be large, so I convinced my husband to join for a weekday lunch. There was zero line as downtown SF on weekdays is a dead-zone. We ordered a Big G with mac and cheese. Everything is made to order so it takes a little longer for them to call your number - BUT note there have a delicious chai tea on the back right of the counter - piping hot - help yourself! The sandwich was humungous, and a little messy. The crisp on the chicken was exactly what you want and the chicken was cooked expertly. The mac and cheese was good, but could have been hotter. The way they breaded the chicken was light and flaky. The service was chill. They serve free housemaid Chai tea and provide water to drink, which is nice. A new FiDi lunchtime option on Kearny, specializing in fried chicken. While they have bone-in chicken and chicken tenders, the specialty here seems to be the chicken sandwiches. After having one of those delicious halal fried chicken sandwiches, you'll forget Chick-fil-A even exists. Bad Boy!: Apparently I was ordering off-menu. While this is listed online for ordering, in person it's not on the menu board. However, it can be ordered so just go for it! Loved the super crispy chicken breast. Liked the crunch all over. The spicy sauce against the cheddar was the perfect combo of heat and cheesy goodness for me. Plus the heat and spices help contrast the rich fried chicken. Good texture contrast against the soft bun. Minimal lettuce for a little greenery, but careful not to be veggie overload. My Veg G: The veggie patty seemed like a crunchy potato and chickpea pakora. I really loved the texture and flavors, compared to bland veggie pucks like BOCA. The rest of the sandwich was similar to the chicken sandwich format with the soft bun, thick cheddar slice, a little bit of lettuce with thin onion slices and mayo-based spread. Only problem was that I was spoiled by the fried chicken sandwich that I had here before. This is solid for a veggie sandwich compared to other veggie sandwiches, but their chicken is just so amazing that any meat-eater should just go with that. Fries: Slight spice over some crispy potato. A nice complement to the chicken sandwich. Decent portion. Mac & Cheese: Packed with so much creamy deliciousness! Imagine your favorite creamy frozen mac & cheese, but even better. Though this is basically just cheesy pasta with a little breadcrumbs sprinkled on top when you order. There is no crispy gratinée on top like you might get in fancy baked mac & cheese dishes. While tastier than the fries, it feels like a much smaller portion, so keep that in mind if you're super hungry. Raspberry Lemonade: Fresh. Refreshing. Made in house. Much better than some soda option. I especially like how the raspberry mixed up the flavor profile. Lemonade: I think I prefer the raspberry variant of the lemonade. This one seemed a bit too tart. I can understand why this place has other franchises. This is the newest I do believe. They know what's up with the fried chicken game. The menu is simple but effective. I'm not going to call it the best chicken sandwich I've had in the city. It's not in the elites. It's very high level though. It's among the flakiest pieces of fried chicken I've ever consumed. I can respect that. Their secret sauces were top tier. The mac and cheese was sort of sad. I guess I would get the fries next time. Good fried chicken. Simple and plain. I've been wanting to try Chicken G's for awhile and I'm glad I got the chance today. I ordered the Big G, which is a huge piece of fried chicken with lettuce, tomato, and onion with a "tangy garlic sauce." I unfortunately didn't taste much of the sauce. I think it would've brought the needed acidity to balance the fried chicken. I think pickles would've helped, too. But it was a decent fried chicken. It's is really crispy on the outside and very juice on the inside. I just wish it had more flavor. It also came with fries and they were pretty good. It looks like they are dusted with paprika, or maybe bay seasoning though it didn't taste like it. The portion of fries look small compared to the massive piece of chicken, but I think it's the right portion. For the price (roughly $16 with tip), it's not bad. It's probably one of the more affordable options, especially since a sandwich comes with a side of your choosing. I got my food to go, so I can't comment on the ambiance. They have couches to sit on while you wait for your order. They're definitely not corporate-furniture - perhaps owned by the owners at one point. But they're comfy. The woman who took my order was nice and I got my food pretty quickly. I'm not sure I'd get the sandwich again.
