Great spot if looking for dinner late, everything was fresh, quickly served and reasonably priced. Good intimate vibe for groups and good service. Everything had a great taste but my favorite was definitely spicy chicken with cheese, bibimbap and the corn cheese

We came here on a weeknight around 10pm with a group of 5. It wasn't that busy, there were a few groups already there but about 3 empty tables. We were seated right away. The vibe here is very much late-night, Asian pub - mirrors on the walls and kpop music videos playing on a projector. The menu is pretty big, but the food is pretty mediocre. Not bad, but nothing special. I got soft tofu soup with pork and my partner got a marinated meat dish (forgot the name but I took a picture). The soup was good but basic - I think I've had better homemade versions. My partner's food was also just okay. It definitely felt like late night pub food. An annoying thing that happened was that a waiter asked my partner if he wanted rice with his dish, and he said yes; but he didn't get his rice until we were almost done with the meal, even after asking the waiters multiple times for the rice. We even saw the waiters give rice to parties that came after us, and when we asked for rice after seeing that, they got flustered and said our rice was coming soon - yet we still waited a while after that. That was kind of frustrating. Overall, this place is a decent late night spot for some Korean staples, but there might be better options in the neighborhood.

Came from out of town via BART and walked from Powell station. Super easy 10min walk. The outside is eye catching as the walls are a mustard yellow so you can't miss it! I got here shortly after opening hours and other folks were filtering in. Service is quick ! What I love about ZZAN is its cozy vibe and how it reminds me of so many small mom-and-pop shops that stick to their signature homecooked style foods. The interior is clean, stylish and intimate. The interior is moderately to dimly lit. There's about 12 tables that seat 4 per table but could be pushed together for larger parties. There's a projector that plays K-pop music videos on the wall for background music. For drinks I got a Korean hot tea since it was a cold rainy day. But I also tried the classic soju which they bring in a whole large jinro bottle (for $13); I'd recommend sharing this with another. I ordered my favorite- soon dubu (tofu soup) with mushrooms. This comes with a side of rice, raw egg (to crack into your soup), and banchan (kimchi, fish cake, and daikon radish) and shredded cabbage salad with savory dressing. The tofu soup comes out bubbling hot. Omg it was wonderful. So rich with well-balanced flavors. Lots of veggies like cucumbers and onions that enrich the soup flavor too. I do recommend this place and would love to come back and try some of their other items like the skewers. I heard the fish cake one is their most popular. They also have cold dishes, deep fried items, bibimbap, other noodles. Good variety on their drink menu too.

This place definitely hit the spot for those late cravings, coming from a concert, or clubs. Their soondubu was so flavorful and the bowl was big, so their portion was just super generous. The kimchi was just perfectly sour. It came with a bowl of white rice on the side. The soup came out hot and boiling, I was so ready to dig right in! This restaurant itself is quite small, so it'd be better to come as a smaller party. Service was good, they take your order fast and they bring out your food just as fast. They tried to accommodate our large party as best as they can, and to get us all seated (even if we got seperated for a little). I would definitely come back here, although I would prefer to come during the day, as this area was a little sketchy.

I've had ZZAN bookmarked for a while and I finally got to try it. My friend and I came here for an early dinner on Tuesday. It wasn't too busy but started to fill up later into the night. They have kpop music videos playing on a projector in the middle of the restaurant. Beef short ribs soup (4/5): The galbi tang was yummy. A good amount of beef and I liked that they removed it off the bone for you. Definitely made it easier to eat. It came with a bowl of white rice. There were some clear noodles inside too. Overall, a good spot! The banchan included fish cakes, spinach, and kimchi. They also gave a side cabbage salad. My friend and I got a yogurt soju cocktail too. It was more yogurt-y than soju though. I will definitely be back to try their other items. The menu had a good variety from soups to noodles to fried dishes.

We went to Zzan on Valentine's Day without a reservation and the place was packed and bustling, but we got a table after about a 15-minute wait. The space has tasteful decor and a lively vibe, and the staff was attentive and quick even though it was busy. We ordered deep-fried dumplings, shrimp tempura, spicy pork, and galbi jjim along with two bottles of soju. Everything was very flavorful and well made. A great spot for really good Korean food and a fun place to hang out with friends over a meal.

A great place on a night out! ZZAN is open late and offers the food and drinks that get you ready for a night out. They offer a variety of traditional and adapted Korean dishes. They are delicious! I especially love the stir fried clear noodles and dolsot bibimbap. The food is so tasty that I wish the portion sizes were a tad larger. I can't help but mention the soju pitchers! The whole table can have a good time with a pitcher! There are many flavors to choose from and are served in the cutest glass. Be prepared, ZZAN gets busy! I was lucky to get a table on a weekend night. Every table was full and there were many people waiting outside. The music and vibes are great. It get pretty loud and lively. Despite it being super busy, service is quick. The waiters tended to our tables frequently and were very friendly! I definitely recommend stopping by ZZAN for a good meal and fun time.

I have ordered take out from here for the past 5 years and it has always been my go to spot for Korean food. I always order the Japchae, bulgogi, galbi, and beef short rib soup! I'm huge fan of their Japchae so definitely don't pass on that!! Note when ordering take out: All of their entrees come with a plate of rice and sides so you don't need to order additional rice unless you want more rice.

Went here in a Friday at 9 PM and was seated immediately! We also ordered the pitcher of beer and a bottle of soju Corn Cheese: this was our favorite! It was sweet, salty, and buttery and so so so good Kimchi Fried Rice: We loved this one as well since we both love sour kimchi. This was the perfect blend of sourness and the spam was a good addition Spicy Rice Cake: this was more on the sweet side and out our favorite out of the 3. The rice cake was chewy and good though! Definitely a good place to go with a group of friends on a weekend

Came out here on a Sunday night after attending the rock orchestra with my bf and his brother. It was our first time actually eating here and we got the following: Deep Fried Beef Dumplings (6pcs) $8 Potato Croquettes (3pcs) 감자 고로케 $8 Pork Kimchi Fried Rice $16 Spicy Boneless Chicken $22 Beef Shortribs $34

    Jennifer T.

Zzan is a great Korean restaurant in the Nob Hill neighborhood. The price is reasonable with my noodle dish $14, bibimbap $16, and dolsol bibimbap $18, but meat is more expensive like Korean fried chicken is $20 and bbq chicken is $23. They played Korean music and has a screen showing Korean music videos. It wasn't busy on a Thursday night so no wait for a table. Service is fast and attentive too. I didn't really like the noodle dish I ordered since I thought it's zazang noodles but it's actually bean paste noodles instead. I liked the banchans and salad though and would be open to trying other items from the menu. The bowls are big so you will get a big portion.

Visited on a Friday around 8:30pm with a friend, restaurant had a few other groups but plenty of open tables so we were able to get a spot immediately. Good spot for walking in. Drinks: A selection of beer, soju, sake, and soju cocktails, we opted for a bottle of beer and split between the two of us. Food: Banchan - a nice selection of kimchi, fishcake, spinach, and a slaw with spicy mayo. All were solid and love a small snack before the meal Kimchi soup - this was solid, asked for this to be medium level of spicy, which it was pretty balanced on the lighter side of spice but didn't mind, came with lots of kimchi, tofu and pork belly, this was served nice and hot with a side of white rice, warm and comforting, flavor was okay not the best I've had but a solid soup Seafood pancake - this was a bit thick and doughy, lots of chewy batter with some scallion and a little bit of julienned vegetables along with some pieces of squid and shrimp, served with a soy sesame dipping sauce, was a bit disappointed by this, was expecting a thinner crisper pancake with less batter Service was good, quick and fairly efficient, water bottles and cups on every table, banchan brought out once we ordered. Food came out after a short wait, no complaints. Overall wanted to like this spot more but the seafood pancake was quite disappointing. Soup is fine here and perhaps the other dishes on the menu are better, convenient location if you are looking for Korean around Union Square, but wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

    Rice Cake Skewers
    Victor S.

Food: The rice cake skewer was great. It had the right chew to it while also having a nice texture on the outside. The sauce it was covered in was on the sweeter side, could have been more spicy in my opinion. The creamy rice cake was cooked perfectly as well and the sauce's seasoning was on point. Ambiance: The inside was nice. It looked very modern and our table and surroundings were clean. It's a pocha so it definitely won't be the quietest place in the world, especially on weekend nights. Service: Service was fine for the most part, but we had to wave the server down to give us menus after a couple minutes of not getting menus. The rice skewers also seemed to take a bit long to come out.

Every thing was as good as the last. They have a pretty extensive menu I wanted to try it all. Sadly I had to settle for Hot and Sour Soup, Wonton soup, Pork Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, Chicken Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, (8Pcs) Pork Dumpling with Sesame Sauce and Red Chili Oil (6Pcs), Numb & spicy pork Bao, Green Onion Pancake, (Sweet) Red Bean Paste Pockets. We had it family style. The 3 of us shared it all. There was plenty to go around. None of us left hungry. I can't even pick a favorite. Maybe the numb and spicy which wasn't that spicy. It was just so good and flavorful. The soup dumplings were amazing. So much perfect flavor. They held together until the bite. So good. The hot and sour soup was plenty tasty. Not the best I've ever had but certainly among the best. The only thing I will say is that one of my companions can't have seaweed. The wonton soup was amazing but full of seaweed. It wasn't listed on the menu and we have never had seaweed in any other wonton soup so didn't know to ask if it could be left out. That was sad. All she could do was have a tiny spoon of the broth to taste it. The green onion pancake was very good. The red bean paste pockets use the same dough but filled with sweet red bean paste. They were a perfect way to end the meal. Next time I'm in the city I will visit again. Loved it all. It was worth taking the time to visit and eat there.

Dumpling Home will always be my favorite (still prefer it a TINY bit), but because there is less of a crowd, service was amazing! I definitely wouldn't mind coming back considering there the difference in wait time to Dumpling Home.

The restaurant can be a little hidden, but it's pretty easy to find with the instructions they send before your reservation. It's located above Fermentation Lab. Just head up the stairs and you'll find it inside the old Ichi Pub space. The restaurant is small and intimate, with only 9 seats at the counter. When you arrive, walk through the Yuji curtain and check in directly with the chef since there is no host. My biggest concern with set menus is always whether I'll feel satisfied and full afterward, but that was definitely not an issue here. My husband and I were both very satisfied after the meal. Every dish was delicious, and you could really taste the quality of each ingredient. Highlights for me were the bluefin sashimi, which was so buttery and soft that it literally melted in your mouth. The skillfish was rich and decadent, and the citrus and ginger balanced the flavors. The fried fish was another favorite as it reminded me of the savory Japanese rice crackers I loved growing up. Since it's located in Japantown, parking can be challenging. We had to loop around several times looking for street parking and even had two cars take spots we were waiting for, so definitely give yourself extra time before your reservation. I ordered the Lion's Mane Mushroom. *A lovely note for the vegans and lactose-intolerant: there is a dairy-free option for the Thai iced tea (made with coconut milk). Given that this was a Michelin guide restaurant, we had certain expectations of the place and sadly we were disappointed. While the service was friendly and the server knowledgeable on the menu, the service itself was severely lacking in detail you'd expect from a $$$$ type of place. Our drinks came out first, followed by the appetizer, then came EVERYTHING ELSE all at once. Papaya Salad Daikon Soup Trio of rice (purple, brown, white) Curry + protein (duck for my friend, lion's mane mushroom for me) We tried to tackle the soup first. It came in an artsy looking bowl with undulated/rouged edges that was awkward to drink from but equally awkward to spoon the soup from. The daikon was VERY WOODY. Both my friend and I awkwardly spit out splintery fibers and left them on our plate. Some of my daikon chunks were fine but my poor friend had double the amount of woody mass collecting on her plate which was really unsightly, especially when you're supposed to be at a nice place. I can't say I've ever encountered this with daikon before at a restaurant. It's pretty easy to see which parts of the daikon are too mature to use. Next we tried to get on to our entree as that was cooling quickly. Unfortunately the curries were already somewhat congealed by the time we made our way to it. The vegan one was pretty good, but again, I had some woody bits in my food. I don't know if that's from the mushroom or if it was from another ingredient but the splintery clumps amassing on the side of our plates was not what we had imagined we'd be doing at a Michelin guide restaurant.... My friend's duck wasn't much better. She complained about the awkward texture and wound up spitting out half of that one her plate. -not to mention, her meal was served to her without a steak knife. After waiting for much too long, she got up to go request a knife and walked the knife back to the table like a psycho. I'm not trying to sound entitled here, but when a restaurant is supposed to be "nice" and has "$$$$", you sort of expect a certain caliber of service. Having to go ask for a knife when you ordered a chunk of meat does seem like a miss. For what it's worth, the curries for both of us had a unique blend of flavors. My friend had a penang currty sweetened with lychee. I don't remember what kind of curry mine was, but it was tasty with a kick in the end. Curry to rice ratio was perhaps 1:3. We had to ask for extra curry to accompany the protein and rice to balance everything out. It would have just been so pasty and dry otherwise (you know, since everything was already congealed...) By the time we got around to our papaya salad, it had gone from chilled to room temp. While it was tasty, it wasn't as refreshing as the salad could be. We're not sure why all courses were served at once, or if that's how this specific lunch service goes? The best course of the day was 100% the dessert. Order the vegan dessert! "Mango-sticky rice ice cream". It was a homemade mango ice cream with coconut milk base. It sounds basic but these ingredients were masterfully put together to create something truly unique. Not sure where the rice was in this whole situation, but who cares! This dessert was incredible! Lightly sweet, creamy and freshing. It arrived like a piece of art, like a glossy, glimmering mango sculture. The way that chilled mango puree spilled over, coating the ice cream underneath... It clung on to the ice cream layer just barely coating it for most perfect combination of sweet and creamy. It was unfortunate I got the last one for the day. My friend had the cheesecake which she said was tasty but not mindblowing like my mango ice cream. It also was... not so glorious. In fact, it looked small and flat, like a half used stack of mini post-it notes. All in all, it was a fun experience. The dishes were familiar favorites with a creative twist. For $45, it wasn't bad but I don't know about coming back for the $$$$ dinner experience based on this visit. Maybe we'll be back for the $40-$45 prefixe again in the future.

We decided to explore the nearby area and found this Thai restaurant with outdoor seating, which was perfect for us and our dog. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the menu was intriguing. We ordered the Thai spicy egg noodle soup, green papaya salad, and Thai drunken noodles with seafood. Each dish was delicious, but the spicy noodle soup stood out as our favorite--one of the best noodle soups we've had in a while. To conclude our meal, we ordered the Thai coconut milk dessert, Ka-nom-tuay, served in a little porcelain cup. It was equally delightful. My husband and I were so impressed with the food that we're already planning our next visit. Highly recommended!

My go to right now is the wagyu boat noodle soup, which is harder to find, and more of an acquired taste. Been twice recently for lunch. It's no frills, with one guy waiting on all the tables. Food is good though. So when Im in the area, question is now: ramen or wagyu boat noodle soup?
