Walk pass Cheri's daily , and today finally sat down to have lunch along with my best friend. For starters it's black owned, support the community and the people. The staff is very attentive and very polite. The ambience is nice , and the backyard is very spacious. For appetizers we had the bbq chicken wings, freshly made and well seasoned. For entree I had fried chicken with potato salad and vegetarian beans. My best friend had grilled salmon along with salad and Mac n cheese. The food provided was freshly made and simply delicious. Non stop good vibes! Went here on a Saturday night with my family, including my 7 year old son. The food was delicious, especially the garlic glazed wings and crispy sauced shrimp. Went to Cheri's maybe 2.5 weeks ago for the first time and I soo want this place to succeed. So About the Space: Cheri's is serving a vintage vibe with an exposed brick wall with paintings around. It's mostly comprised of small two seat tables that can be pushed together, a taller picnic style bar table, and the large square table in the love-shack corner. The love shack corner is almost cozy but the seats are cut a lil too narrow which isn't a problem if you have a narrow behind. Ambiance: The music should always stay loud enough to hear because the play lists have been on point every time we were there! Play on, playas. So About the Food: Anyone counting calories: don't eat all day if you're going because a) the cornbread b) the Mac and cheese and I NEVER do Mac and cheese but this one must have had some addictive substance in it (lol) because the aroma drove me to taste...and keep tasting, the Greens, the... lemme stop before I name the whole menu. Everything I had and everything my friends had was amazing. Only two considerations on the food: portion size on the delectable catfish... maybe I was fortunate those times I went to Peaches HotHouse and Shrimp and Crab because those catfish portion sizes were a blessing. Next consideration- I'm an extremely low salt/low sodium person so I might be hyper-sensitive but the salmon croquettes seemed just a touch salty. But TRY them because my less sensitive to salt friend loved them. What's missing: More art, more images, spoke word and live performances and YOU. We ordered a Boulevard and wanted to substitute egg white and add shrimp. We were told the order would be ready in 45 mins. An hour later for pick up, they had not started making the food. Wanted about 30 mins for the food to be prepared only to have the boupevard egg white omlette with just spinach and tomatoes, no cheese, no tarragon, no onions, no sweet peepers, no lemon dill. We called to complain about the issue and the owner would not listen, kept cutting us off to the point that I have chosen to no longer support this establishment. Music was flowing all night - a dj was playing a great selection of r&b that took me right back to my first few years out of college. The food was delicious- I ordered the salmon which was basted in garlicky-herbal goodness (just remember to bring some mints!) And we ended up chatting with the owner who was very friendly - you could tell why the place had such a nice vibe. Came from Michigan to try this place had a lot of great reviews! Called ahead of time to see if they were dine in, I was advised they were outside which was ok. When I arrived I was greeted and immediately was told that they were cash only (no problem with that) however I didn't have any cash I had plans on using a credit card since most people are not taking cash due to covid. It was very upsetting had I was advised over the phone when I called that it was cash only I could have found an ATM (free for me) and not wasted money on an Uber. Soooo I just found out this restaurant is sooooo close to where I live! Cannot believe I haven't known for the few months I've been walking down this street. I'll be here hopefully every week! Their food is amazing!!! It's family owned and the woman who served us was super sweet. We ate in the backyard! A lot of leaves since it's fall but beautiful. The food was amazeballs! I ordered the salmon croquettes which came with a baby kale salad, collard greens and potatoes . Also a side of grits with cheese. It was delicious!! Will be going back to try the fried fish! Great ambiance, extremely accommodating staff, great DJ playing a mix of 90s hip hop and R&B, but the food was cooked to perfection. I went down there looking for another place I thought was on Malcolm X, but stumbled in for Friday lunch. They have a really nice space outside and in. Tori is very nice and the food was really delicious. I had salmon croquettes and they were light and perfectly seasoned. She gave me a sample of the candied yams and explained that there was no sugar added, but the juices caramelize into slow roasted goodness. I'll definitely go back for brunch. I heard about this place from the TV show Chopped and since it's near mom and dads, decided to check it out. Warm and friendly service and you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. Love the style and decor, very Brooklyn, very Bed-Stuy. I decided to order the buttermilk biscuits while I waited for hubby to arrive and I will give 5 stars on those things alone. So moist and fluffy and buttery and def homemade. The complimentary cornbread for the table could've stayed in the back - not a fan. I ordered red velvet waffles and fried chicken and he had the catfish and grits. We loved both. Also got some of the rum punch which was perfect! We even got dinner for later to go since I don't live in the area. Oh I almost forgot about the music. Seriously, jammin music. All the patrons were either singing or humming along. After reading all of the wonderful reviews and walking by the restaurant frequently, I couldn't wait to drop in. I'm not sure if I was there on an off night but the service was terrible. While we were greeted and given cornbread and water fairly soon after being seated, the rest went downhill. My friend and I ordered 2 glasses of wine and 25 minutes later, NOTHING. We decided to leave as we were hungry and worried about how long it would have taken to order and receive our food. Went to this address on 9/22/2021 & this place was closed although online it said that it was open. I've been wanting to come to this restaurant for quite some time & since I was in the neighborhood I decided to stop by. I actually walked right by it because nothing looked like a restaurant. I'm wondering is this restaurant upstairs & I just know that this can't be a restaurant because I'm seeing apartment #s to ring the bell. I'm just looking around & finally I look up to see a sign that says Cheri's. I was standing right in front of it & didn't realize it because the metal "gate" was pulled down & it had a padlock on it. I'm really confused at this point. Perhaps I read the wrong location online or something. Seriously I don't know what to think. So I called their # for the restaurant & it's a non working #. I called a 347# for restaurant & that line just rang. I called GrubHub & explained what was going on. The representative ask for their # which is the 718 # & she tried it. She got the same message I heard. Then puts me on hold & comes back to say that all of the orders that have been placed were cancelled. I was in shock & I said well why would they be up online as open & accepting orders only to cancel them. I asked if the restaurant relocated or closed for good but she had no idea of the restaurant status. Please put on your Instagram or website that you have closed or relocated. PLEASE stop accepting orders online to cancel. Waste of time. Very disappointed because I waited over a year to try them out.
