We were able to sneak in a 5:30 pm reservation on a Saturday night. This place is clearly in demand at the moment...particularly given the appetite for Persian cuisine as well as its prime location within the heart of downtown Roswell. I should note that parking can be a challenge, so plan ahead for that. The hostess was immediately friendly and brought us to our table. The place was bumping even though it was still relatively early. Not a large venue but certainly sufficient to create a trendy vibe. There's some interesting artwork on the walls, coupled with a shelf that encases various well designed, plates and cups...all hanging below some industrial piping. Meanwhile, look towards the bar, and you'll observe a very different aura with backlit liquor bottles and greenery hanging from a wooden fixture. For food: We got the heirloom tomato salad, the kashke bademjan, the chelo dip, and the lamb koobideh side. The salad was interesting given some uncommon inclusions, namely the crispy pita bread. I don't really care for that in a salad, but this at least added some cool texture. The kashke bademjan was a reasonably sizable portion; it was tasty but not necessarily that unique from comparable dishes at other Persian restaurants. The chelo dip was appealing since it contained a motley crew of flavorful ingredients. I should note that the labneh is a bit on the creamier/fattier side, so just know that going into it. Probably best not to overdose on it like we did. The lamb side was excellent...even came with tomato and pepper that made it a complete dish in and of itself. It didn't come with the rice (the entree, however, does), but we didn't need the rice. Oh, and ask for some sumac as a condiment! We also enjoyed the dessert, particularly the baklava ice cream sandwich, which was delectable with a combination of crunchiness and sweetness. Again, best to share. read more

We absolutely loved Chelo! I am falling deeper and deeper into a mad obsession with Persian food! Chelo really encouraged my addiction with the most flavorful meats, and crispy rice! We loved everything about Chelo. The dim-lit candlelight ambiance, decor and size of the restaurant itself. Our server Ian greeted us promptly. He was super personable and attentive. Ian helped guide us on a few of our entrees. We ordered several appetizers, a couple of salads and entrees to share. Everything was fantastic! First off, the Feta Rolls, OMG. Make sure everyone at your table gets to try one. The sweet and savory together is so good! The Chelo Labneh, so good with the naan bread, fried cauliflower was also great, and of course the Dolmas, which was good and rice wasn't too mushy or overcooked. Chicken Barg- fantastic, would definitely order again, Lamb Kebob-tender flavorful, would definitely order again, Beef Koobideh- also flavorful and so good, Chilean Sea Bass-winner and all time favorite! Would order this over and over again! The Sabzi Polo Rice and Saffron Rice were awesome sides and will forever love the crispiness of the rice and flavors! Food was yummy. Service was good until after 2 hrs in the middle of our meal they asked us to leave because we were there for 2 hrs. And it wasn't anywhere close to restaurant closing time either. I see several other customers have also complained about the same issue. As a business major from an Ivy League school I don't think I need to tell any business that customer comes first. It was like saying to us we think we have enough of your money bye bye!! I loved the food but after spending 400$ and could have ordered more don't want to be driven out of a restaurant in 2 hrs when we were having a quiet family night out. I can't go back there or recommend this place. Not sorry. They should apologize for extremely poor customer service. read more

First of all, Chelo is an amazing space when you walk in! It's brick and beautiful and the booths are super cozy. The first time I went here the waiter I had was decent, but since then everyone has been top notch (and I've never seen that person again). All the appetizers are great. I love the baba ganoush. The fattoush salad is crunchy and refreshing! For an entree the shrimp are huge and so delicious! But honestly most of the time we just eat a lot of mezzes! read more

Ridiculously overpriced, especially for lunch. Friend and I just spent $95 for a salmon sandwich, chicken barg, hummus, and two iced teas. Iced teas were $5 each, and our server never offered us a refill. The hummus was $10 and a super small portion in a big bowl, spread very thin across the bottom of the bowl. Then we had no bread for the hummus and had to ask twice; we finally got bread after our meals arrived. Chicken barg was small, super thin, overcooked and dry. This was the first time I dined at Chelo the middle eastern restaurant in Roswell. The completely designed interior is both comfortable and pleasing. Our server Val was competent, friendly and professional. Our party of five each ordered different menu items. The portions were large. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was wanting. Each of our dishes had overcooked rice and overdone seasoning. My $38 Lamb kabob was so overcooked it was barely edible. My party was finishing up so it was too late to reorder. I asked Val to tell the chef about the lamb. A manager came over and gave me a free ice cream. Our tab was just under $300. The dinner was not worth the price. As we were leaving I asked the manager who the middle eastern chef was. He pointed to the two Mexican guys in the kitchen. Chelo needs to do better. read more

I booked Chelo for my friend's 50th birthday dinner, and put those details in the notes for the Toast reservation. No mention or attention was given to it. Our server, Katarina, was friendly but inattentive, and we had to flag her down to order, pay, etc. She didn't explain the billing process, so we sat at our table waiting to pay until we noticed on the bill it was self-serve. Returned to Chelo on Easter & had our first look at their new brunch menu. We were very happy that all rice options were available to order since the wraps came with fries - & they were very good fries too. There are entrees as well that fill out the abbreviated menu & include a side of eggs. My salmon-potato patty was delicious. Chicken wrap & Salmon wrap looked good with the fish getting two thumbs up & friend's chicken wrap was made better by an addition of harissa that was requested as a side add on condiment that we had to ask for a number of times before it was delivered- no biggie, but when delicious desserts came well before our requested coffees, we wondered, what was up with that. We eventually determined that the coffee service is something that is handled by only certain employees so that is probably why there was a wait. Chelo has a nice little deck out back for al fresco dining & the inside ambience is as nice during the day as it is at night. read more

Consistently delicious. Everything I've tried I have liked. My favorite is probably the salmon. The rice is all excellent. The Persian smoke cocktail is unique. We always look forward to visiting. A great addition to Roswell's restaurants. They have a handful of parking places and valet. We usually park at city hall and walk over Alpharetta street at the traffic signal crosswalk. read more

The little traditional nibbles they bring to the table with bread are so tasty- nuts, cheese, radish, etc. We had the appetizer trio which was delicious and filling. The tahdig rice is a must- it gets crispy on the bottom of the pot when they cook it. I had the adas polo version with saffron, lentils, raisins. Delicious! The cherry chamborg ice cream was fine, but I don't need to order it again- kind of basic. Service and ambiance were both good. This place is popular, so a reservation is usually necessary.
