Stopped by for New Year's lunch. Hubby and I have been to 1920 a couple times before but it had been a while and we were in the mood for something different than our usual haunts. We started with the pimento cheese dip and were both surprised to find that it was served hot along with several pieces of soft, warm bread. It was SO good and a nice change from the way that most other restaurants serve their pimento cheese. Even hubby loved it and he is usually not a fan of cheese. For my main, I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that this is THE BEST MEAL I have had in a really long time. Total comfort food that hit all the right spots on this chilly afternoon. The cheese on the sandwich was just the right amount of ooey gooey and the tomato soup was perfection. I was tempted to lick the bowl when I got to the bottom, but that wouldn't be very dignified while dining out, so I did the next best thing by sopping up the residue with what was left of my sandwich. It was delicious and I will be back for more soon. Hubby ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and said it was the best chicken sandwich he has had. He is hard to please, so between the pimento and sandwich, 1920 achieved the improbable in impressing hubby. Service was impeccable. The main reason we had not come back in a while is because it is a small space and can feel pretty congested when it fills up, which is not the most comfortable. We don't like feeling crowded, but after today's visit, we decided that the limited space is a small price to pay for amazing food and service, so we will undoubtedly return soon. 1920 is my favorite restaurant on Canton St. We usually just get appetizers and split a bunch. The tacos are all amazing, the beet salad is so good, the burrata is to die for, the calamari is always cooked well, the fried cauliflower is out of this world! It is a bit on the expensive side, so expect that, but it is worth it. The sauces are all AMAZING, especially their ponzu sauce and various aiolis. Pro tip: always ask for a table in the back when you make your reservation because it is much quieter back there. It can be very loud and crowded up front. read more

Excellent waitstaff, especially Walter, who was wonderful. The food, though, was just okay. My chargrilled oysters were awful. I'm not even sure they know what "chargrilled" means. Thick, mushy breading completely smothered the oyster...no flavor, no texture, just bad. And I say that as someone from New Orleans with high standards, but honestly, anyone could taste this and know it was a miss. The short rib appetizer with the crispy sweet potato cake was fine. The cake itself was actually great. It was crispy, unique, and delicious. But the short rib was tough and lacked flavor. The service alone deserves five stars, and the atmosphere is lovely for a Friday night out. But the food just doesn't deliver. read more

This was my 2nd time back at this establishment but for lunch instead of dinner. The bartender - he's been there forever! Nice guy, very knowledgeable and made some nice recommendations. The place definitely gives a chic pub feel that's pretty casual but the menu shows that they are creative as well. I thoroughly enjoyed their short rib small plate. It pleasantly surprised me with how much flavor and tender it was. The fried sweet potato cake was a nice touch to balance out some of the fattiness and the sweet chili was decadent. I didn't care for the small amount of shredded cheese sprinkled around it but overall it was a solid dish. If you like bourbon, they have a very big selection and also serve a lot of the traditional classic cocktails. I didn't love my espresso martini but he made due with what they had, but I've enjoyed a very good cosmo from here. read more

I found the roaring 20s supermodel for a cookbook. It's the sesame-crusted tuna at 1920 Tavern in Roswell, GA! This is the kind of lunch spot that makes you accidentally spend four hours working while having a 3 course lunch ooopppps. The whole strip is adorable with restaurants, shops, and people like us living their best lives. We started with the crab dip obviously! That creamy goodness was almost unfair! I had the tavern salad with that model referenced above! I ate every single bite, zero regrets. Then, I had to be the fat kid that I am and order the fried cheesecake. After a terrible Mother's Day experience two years ago, we decided to try it again. Fortunately, it was slightly better. The place was not terribly busy (kind of surprising for a Mother's Day), but very comfortable. The service was excellent. Thank you, Ashley! This time the meals came out within a few minutes of each other. We shared the Mediterranean sampler and raw oysters to start. The Mediterranean sampler was ok. The falafels were overcooked to the point of petrified, which is unfortunate, because the inside flavor was sound. The hummus was grainy and lacked salt and lemon. The fish and chips should be removed from the menu. They were soggy, dripping in grease, and under seasoned. 3 of 10 is being generous. Avoid this dish. The "chips" were...let's just say, I'd rather have a bag of store bought potato chips. It's apparent these folks have never had GOOD fish and chips. One of our children had one of the most disgusting Mac and cheese dishes as a side. It was more like a soup than Mac and cheese. Still not certain what the liquid was in the bottom of the bowl. Another dish to avoid! Thankfully, the mother we were celebrating enjoyed her frittata and her mimosas, so the day was not a complete waste. For the $350+ for six people, there are DOZENS of places I'd rather spend my money for more reliable results. Likely our last visit. read more

I was emailed a free birthday dessert (as my husband and I have been several times during Alive After 5, etc) so we went to sit at the bar to order some drinks and redeem the dessert. The bar was full so I asked the hostess if we could sit at the open 2 topper tables (many open around 6:30pm). There weren't many people out as it is the end of the Fulton County school break. My husband was standing near the manager when the hostess asked him and he said to tell us no. If it was a reservation issue they could have said we have reservations in the next hour, you have to be done by then, but that offer wasn't given. We were dressed nicely and indicated we would purchase other menu items. I haven't ever given a negative review until now. Again, we've given patronage many times. We were turned away. I didn't tell the hostess or manager I had a "spiff", I simply said I'd like to sit for dessert and drinks. read more

We came here once before and it was so loud in here it split our ears! Seriously had headaches after we left but the food was good so we always said we would come back. Tonight was the night.. it was still loud, but better. However, we got seated, our waiter came to our table, got us waters, and said he would be right back. 15-20 mins later we got up and left. Made reservations for a small group on a Monday evening. Outdoor seating area was mostly filled, bar seating was limited as well. A hostess stand is located by the sidewalk. We were sat in the front area, against the wall. Here a banquette runs the length of the room with small, two-person tables and chairs on the opposite side. Our pushed together tables were set up waiting for us. After being seated by the hostess our waiter quickly stopped by to introduce themself and have a chat then left to give us time to look over the menu. As often happens with a group, we talked more than we perused the menu so our waiter had to come back a couple of times for our full order. In the mean time, we placed an order for beers and cocktails, and appetizers. The spinach artichoke dip is delicious. Creamy, chunks of artichoke, chips that hold up to the dip and just enough to clear out the bowl. Our waiter asked if we needed more chips, but we were scooping this dip out of the bowl, not just dipping them in, so they were plenty. I had one of their steak options for an entree. The cut was tender and well seasoned. It was cooked a bit more than I ordered and was offered a refire which I declined. Steak continues to cook once off the flame and it was pretty darn close so it was all good. Definitely a delicious meal. It comes with a side of gravy which is well seasoned and a nice addition. The Shepherds pie is chunks of beef with a vegetable mix in gravy covered in mashed potatoes and placed under a broiler. It was enjoyed by more than one person in our group. This restaurant has a casual feel with an upscale dining experience. Staff are friendly and experienced. Two women stopped by at different times to ask how things were going. The food was excellent and although tables are close, it is comfortable seating. A little more room for courses plus beverages and waters, plus silverware on the table top would be welcome. As the sun set outside, the interior lights were turned down and the restaurant filled up. Almost as if the lights going low triggered it, the restaurant got so loud I could no longer hear the person next to me never mind across the table. Luckily we had completed our meal and were ready to depart. With adult beverages, appetizer, entrees plus tip we spent around a hundred dollars per person. Do make a reservation. Paid parking lot is just a couple buildings up the road or try to find on street spot. This was a memorable, very nice evening out. read more

Heads up - there is a time limit on tables. Not entirely sure what transpired. My wife and I met another couple at 1920 after I suggested it as a place to catch up on a double date. Previously, I would have work dinners there and would spend time at the bar, enjoying their awesome cocktails. (The other three in my party were new to 1920.) On this past Sunday night, we ordered five cocktails at $15 each, five beers, and two different appetizers. We were seated outdoors and tipped the live music, which was great. We consumed all the aforementioned items in about two hours. We were planning to have dinner as well when the manager approached us to inform us that 1920 had a time limit on tables and that they had other people with reservations waiting for our table. They kindly asked us to wrap up and offered us some free drinks as an apology. This wasn't Jenna or Howard, the owners, but someone else. The owners have always been great historically, this was probably one of the few nights they didn't work. We were all quite shocked and caught off guard. There were plenty of open tables indoors. If the manager had simply said, "We have people waiting for your table. Would you all mind moving indoors to an open table?" we would have understood and happily moved indoors to have dinner and continued to enjoy the music and drinks. Instead, we wrapped up and walked down the street to Ipp's for dinner. It was our first time at Ipp's, and it was great and hit the spot. It was a great time to start with, everyone enjoyed it . I did notice at least 1 other table where people were already seated when we arrived, and when we left they were still seated. They were there longer than us. But the ending was truly bizarre. None of us had ever experienced something like that before. But sadly, the ending was disappointing - so much so, doubt any of us will ever go back. read more

Shrimp and Lobster spaghetti was absolutely tasteless. The lobster was cold and underwhelming. Calamari was frozen from a huge bag but the sauce was amazing. Maybe drinks only would be the option for 1920 Tavern.....NOT FOOD!! I truly apologize for not mentioning ......My husband ate the shrimp and grits because he liked it. I thought it was OVER sauced! I didn't know by giving my opinion about the food I ate would turn into this. I first wanted Ravioli but Reggie explained they WERE NOT Scratch made!! But the sauce on the ravioli was scratch made. What can I say bout this place that hasn't been said? It's amazing. It's one of those places we're everything on the menu is truly great. Check out the smoked salmon crustini. I have had the shrimp and grits there twice, top shelf. The paella and boneless short ribs have gotten high marks from those I've dined with. My fiancé and I live ITP and haven't had much time to explore Roswell. A great Facebook Marketplace find brought us to the area, and after a stop at Gate City we decided to swing by for dinner. When we sat down, I realized the sandwich I was craving was only on the lunch menu. I asked if it might still be possible to order, fully prepared to choose something else if not. Our server kindly checked and came back to say yes, which was great! We ordered an appetizer and two entrées -- one being my lunch-menu sandwich. Within 5 minutes, my meal came out. About 20 minutes later, the appetizer arrived. My fiancé's entrée, however, never came out after we waited 45 minutes. At that point, we asked for it to go. Unfortunately, this meant we didn't get to eat together. On top of that, the appetizer was expedited so quickly that it arrived as near-liquid pimento cheese, which I didn't even touch since I had already finished my food by then. I want to emphasize that none of this was the server's fault -- she was clearly embarrassed and did her best. The disappointing part was that the only compensation offered was removing one drink from our tab. For an establishment of this caliber, I would have expected more consideration. With how costly dining out is today, it's hard to justify spending money somewhere if we end up going through a drive-thru afterward just to fill up. read more

This still REALLY BOTHERS me, over 5 years later, and I continue to experience emotional trauma and flashbacks and thoughts I can't stop, not because of what happened but because of how I was obviously poisoned that evening, but because of how the place were it occurred responded. What they claim are lies. And the reason for lying makes no sense to me at all. I didn't accuse them of anything other than being extremely horrible to an obvious victim of a crime, and their response was to try to blackmail me and spread lies about me. I had MY FRIEND call 911 bc I lost feeling in my legs, had been explosively sick, and could feel myself losing consciousness after only having 3 drinks with a high tolerance. I locked myself in the bathroom for safety because the bartender was pounding on the door and telling my friend and I to "leave now you drunk b***** get the f*** out of my bar" which made no sense as we'd have drinks there and paid for them. They claimed we walked in off the street and asked to use their bathroom! Lies!! They claimed THEY called the police?! LIES!! They claimed my friend was taken out in handcuffs?! Lies! She met me at the hospital in an UBER!! If anyone wants to know anything else about that evening please reach out to me. If they try to follow through on their threats, I know a good lawyer and I am not afraid of them anymore. (I am however still afraid of ever going out again without a man with me, which is sad. Because my independence was my favorite quality before this occurred.) It's been 5 1/2 years, I never claimed this business or its workers did anything to me except their treatment of me during the time of which I was both a victim of someone else, and also a paying customer visiting their establishment. As the police told me when I made my own report, against them, it is not slander nor libel when you tell the TRUTH. Was on a business trip and the restaurant originally picked was packed, with no room at the bar either. 1920 Tavern was nearby, and was also packed, but luckily there were two seats open at the bar. The bartender was working his tail off but still found time to make sure we had our drinks and even helped us with some menu decisions. I had the spicy margarita, and it was very well made. Just the right kick and nicely presented. The couple next to me ordered the braised short ribs, which convinced me. They were very good and a generous portion. We got calamari and spinach/artichoke dip appetizers, both solid. The place itself has a great vibe, right in the middle of a great street that's bustling with people and plenty of nice places to eat and drink. read more

Although we had reservations we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated, but we were not in a rush so it was okay. Cocktails were great, food was delicious and portions were a good size. People tell me I am difficult to please but they also know that once I find quality, ambience, and service, I am ok! Found it all at 1920. In its simplicity this restaurant is where you want to eat when you don't know what to eat and when you are looking for fun combinations and flavors! Must try the scallops tacos OMG! Great calamari, short rib tacos. Yum! Fair prices, good service. I was not blown away by the dessert but I am sure it's a matter of personal taste. Going back the day after...today! We had an early dinner at 1920 Tavern this evening. Our food was good, our service was mid-grade and the ambiance was loud for a not very packed place, again it was early. Our entrees were Fish and Chips, three large perfectly done pieces of flaky cod served with an abundance of waffle chips and a minuscule portion of Cole slaw. More slaw please! We also ordered shrimp and grits, very tasty and well prepared. The biggest criticism would be with our server who paid little attention to our glasses and left us sitting for a longer than acceptable time after we were obviously finished. When you pay $70+ for a meal (no alcohol, tip included) one expects that you get a refill of your ice tea. Three stars on the service, five on the food... but one choosing Fish and chips deserves a bit more slaw. read more

We came in on a Saturday afternoon. Parked in a parking lot behind the restaurant for free. We did have reservations but we ended up sitting at the bar. Bartender was cool, friendly and attentive. We ordered fries to get us started thinking it'd take awhile to get to us since there was a decent amount of people there but our food came out before our fries so the bartender took it off the bill which was nice of her. We ordered the crab cakes which the mister said was delicious. That the sauce on it was very good. We also had the Blackened Trout which I noticed isn't on the menu online. Very light meal. The skin was crispy and the meat was decent. The sauce helped with the flavor. Nothing to brag about it was paired with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts which were very good.
