After visiting Turkey last winter, the desire to find a local and authentic Turkish restaurant has recently been on my mind. Chef's Table was our choice and it deserved a Chef's kiss. The eggplant starter was a good way to fire up our tastebuds. For entrees, I went with the Mixed Gill for one and wifey added the Iskender Kabob, which we just ended up pushing to the middle of the table to share. The combination of spiced meats and vegetables was delicious and worth the try. The Yelp pictures show a full on bakery, however this is misleading because the extensive selections are actually at the restaurant owner's other place, La Cafe, and not here. So we passed on dessert and opted to drive another 10 minutes away to Baklava Bakery for a wider selection of choices. The inside of the restaurant is a bit small and modest, but comfortable enough to enjoy a hearty meal. read more

LOCATION: Super pretty, well-decorated spot in an unassuming location very close to 410. The place is not very big, but feels comfortably intimate with a nice vibe. Service was great with very friendly people. FOOD: Starting with the bread and ezme dip is perfect. It was delicious for a free starter. Slightly spicy, exceedingly savory, and a good richness with the olive oil. Mains that my wife and I had were both delicious. The Turkish bread they use for the pides is just phenomenal. You can eat it by itself, but the cheese and meat just take it to another level. The lamb shish was also so good. Meat was not very gamey and was just CRAZY tender. Salad was mot bad either, but the meat stole the show. Plus, good portions allowed my wife to have leftovers which were so good the next day. 100% recommend Chef's Table. The food here is amazing and SOO flavorful! We got the lamb chops for around $30 which comes with 4 lamb chops, rice, and a salad. Definitely a bit more expensive than I would have preferred. We had 2 orders of the lamb chops and we noticed that some pieces were just wayyyy smaller than others. I don't think $30 is justiced for 4 small, uneven pieces but they did taste really good and cooked well. The hummus was also really good, and fresh. One of the better house made hummuses I've had. It only came with the hummus so we had to ask for more bread with the hummus. There was only 1 server when we went and all the tables were full so service was really really slow. I did like the interior decor of the resteraunt, it felt very calm and relaxing. Overall, the food was really good but way too expensive. It was nearly $100 for 2 of us. read more

Our server, Talha, was fantastic and took the time to walk us through the menu and break down the options, which we really appreciated. The complimentary homemade bread and dipping sauce were amazing to start. We tried the Chicken Döner Pide (their specialty pizza). A must-try! & the chicken Tava (stew) was so incredibly flavorful. We really enjoyed our dinner here. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with beautiful Turkish lamps and a relaxed, friendly vibe. The staff were so kind and attentive, making the experience even better. I ordered the veggie casserole, which was a perfect vegan option -- hearty, flavorful, and full of fresh vegetables. My husband had the mixed grill for one along with the baba ghanoush, and everything was cooked perfectly with great smoky flavor. Well, what a delightful treat! San Antonio finally has an authentic Mediterranean restaurant that's good! The food was super fresh and came out piping hot. Wish I had come to this place earlier. It has a small diner and the parking is a little hard since its shared with a Starbucks. So be ready! ...Once inside the place is really beautifully decorated. The staff sat us right away and brought some bread with the chef sauce which was delicious! I ordered the Chicken Sharma also very flavorful. MY friend ordered a lentil soup that look delicious. For dessert, I ordered the Turkish coffee and we split the Pistachio Baklava which was in perfect bite sizes. We have friends who said it was amazing so we finally tried it and it was not great at all. It wasn't even worth the price. We got the food to go and maybe that was the problem? The restaurant was pretty inside but on the friendly scale it was about a 3/10 - that's when we should have known it would have been wise to leave. We had to ask twice to place an order and then it was ready in less than 10 minutes - again we should have known something was up. I ordered dolmas and they were delicious, tiny but super yummy - I do recommend those. I ordered the falafel plate but only got a side which was 4 falafel and side salad (it was really just cabbage and a few carrots, no dressing) - do not recommend. We ordered some calamari and just don't, it was swimming in grease with the same "side salad." My husband got the beef plate and his came with rice but the beef was not good, and the "grilled veggies" were a half tomato and a sweet pepper with the same side salad mentioned earlier. $50 was not worth it to me, receipt is pictured. read more

I was so excited to try this restaurant since they have so many great reviews anddddddd overall it was a good experience. I visited on a Saturday evening and we were able to be seated quickly. The restaurant was full, a good sign of the quality of the food. We enjoyed the complimentary bread and dipping sauce. The bread was freshly baked and pillowy soft on the inside. The dipping sauce had a slight spice to it, which paired well with the bread. My parents ordered the baba ghanoush, which my mom really enjoyed! As for our food, it was served hot and presented well. I found the chicken skewers to have a great flavor to them and the rice was delicious as well. The side salad had a light dressing on top, which was perfect considering the bold flavors of the main dish. My dad and grandpa ordered a mixed plate with lamb and beef. They enjoyed the food, but found no difference or way to differentiate between the sliced lamb/beef on their platters. My mom ordered the dumplings and she said they were quite tasty! Overall the food was good and the service was quick. I would say the interior is in need of a facelift and a deep clean, as our booth and chairs were quite stained and worn thin. My family came here while visiting San Antonio based on the reviews, but overall we left dissapointed. The mixed dip appetizer was okay, though my wife and her parents who are from Iraq weren't too impressed with the hummus, and the babaghanouj was very yogerty instead of mainly eggplant which was the first time I ever had it like that & wished it was how it's typically served. The plate was also very small for being $15. For the entree we got 2 mixed grills for 2 and this was the biggest area of dissapointment. When the entree is $56 each you expect the meats to all be cooked-to-order and skewers of various types of meat; atleast anywhere we've ever ordered for that price. Instead, the primary bulk of meat is the chicken and gyro meat cut from the rotisserie, which was barely warm and quite dry. There were 2 lamb koftas that were delicious and clearly cooked very well, but the beef chunks were the worst of them all; super charred and incredibly chewy... I mean it when I say they were the most overcooked chunks of beef I've had in a lonng time if ever. Then the bill... apparently there's an auto-grat that's applied even though we were a table of 4, and ontop of THAT there's another like $7 added if you're not paying cash. In the end all of this almost came to $180... this was simply way too much for the quality of food and service. read more

It was I think the owner or manager servicing all the tables and he was on top of things. The ice tea was made to perfection and the food was flavorful. We had the appetizer sampler with 4 choices which allowed us to try the different it's such as BabaGanesh, hummus, dolmas and a red spread (I don't recall the name). Loved this place! Chef's Table has such a cozy atmosphere. There is beautiful decor, like the fancy wooden chairs and intricate lamps. We started with the mix of 4 appetizers--Babaganoush, Lebni, Muammara, and a beet dip. My favorite was the beet dip. Everything was super flavorful, and the complimentary bread was perfect for dipping. For mains, we had the Chicken Doner, Chicken Doner Pide, Iskender Kebab, and Beyti Kebab. Every dish was so good! We went there for my birthday dinner with work buddies and had a great time! Unfortunately, I think I ordered the wrong dish for my palate - I was between the Iskendar kebab (which I ended up ordering) and the lamb shish kebab. The Iskendar kebab was good, the meat was succulent but the overall tanginess of the dish didn't really appeal to me. Somebody else at our did get the lamb shish kebab so I ended up trying a bit of that, and I definitely liked it a lot more! So I know what I can order the next time now. This place definitely gives you value for money since the portion sizes are HUGE - the pide were a crowd favourite at our table, and so were the filo rolls as an appetizer. Have came here 2 separate times. The first time I came for dinner on a Friday with a group of 4. Although they don't serve alcohol, they will accommodate you with wine glasses if you bring your own bottle. I came here the second time and this time invited a group of 11 for my bday lunch. They were great and very accommodating for our table. All of the food was delicious and everyone had nothing but great things to say about their plate. I visited Turkey over the summer and once going; I can attest that this place does a great job showcasing the highlights of Turkey. Overall, the restaurant is really small, but does have a calming and chill vibe. The only two things that I wish were better was that they would take care of whatever fruit flies we're flying around, which we're really annoying while I was trying to enjoy my meal and the service could be better. I love lamb, and if you love lamb you will love this place too. The sauce from the Tava was flavorful and delicious! They will bring you more of the delicious bread if you let them, just becareful because it is filling! We were full, but said let's try desert. The best baklava I've ever had! We also had the Kazandibi. Think of Mexican flan, only better! The misses hates flan, but she absolutely loved this! Dang they are doing everything right here! The only slight gripe we had was the price. It's not too crazy expensive, but like I say, we pay for great food, and this was it! This easily now in our top ten places to eat! Incredible. Best Mediterranean food I've had in Texas. Make sure to get the four cold appetizer with the babaga, hummus, red pepper and beet dips. That platter is worth a Michelin star. After a couple of tries to fit this restaurant into our family schedule, we finally got there this weekend. My wife, who is not an adventurous eater, joined my son and me with hopes of enjoying a delicious dessert at the Turkish Delight next door. Both places are owned by the same folks, but operate independently. We ate our meal in Chef's Table, then moved to Turkish Delight for dessert. Both places are decorated very nicely. There are a lot of tables with natural cut tree trunk tops. There are interesting Turkish art pieces on the walls, and the music that was playing was exotic and enchanting. We all ordered iced tea to drink. It was very well brewed with a full bodied flavor a lot of places don't have anymore. At the same time our tea came, a server put a loaded basket of bread on the table and a small dish of a delicious dipping sauce. I made the mistake of eating a piece of the bread and felt full before my actual meal arrived. All three of us ordered something different. You can see them in the pictures. Everybody liked their food. Mine was the Iskender Kebab. The pile of meat was absolutely huge. It was on top of buttery squares of toasted bread. They had soaked up the juices and gotten kind of soggy, but had crispy edges. The result was an insanely delicious mouthfeel that I really liked. I only ate about half of it, it was so filling. The Turkish Delights Coffee Shop was amazing. They had interesting large portions of cake on display. There were all different shapes and colors. They were absolutely beautiful. My wife opted for a personal-sized chocolate cake. It had layers of cake with thick chocolate mousse between them. She loved it, but had to bring half of it home. My son got a Dubai chocolate bar, which turned out to be chocolate with a pistachio filling. He didn't know it would have the filling and was a little disappointed. I had a HUGE slice of pistachio cake. It was a beautiful green with chocolate and fruit decorations on top. I really enjoyed it, although I also had to bring most of it home. I will definitely be back to both of these wonderful places. However, I am really anxious to hit up the Turkish Delight to try some other goodies with a nice strong cup of coffee. read more

We were greeted by a friendly host upon arrival at Chef's Table Turkish Mediterranean Grill. We ordered the Doner Pide, which was cheesy with a crispy outside and tender inside. The doner was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly--absolutely delicious, though a little heavy, so bring your appetite if you plan to pair it with an entrée. We also tried the Lamb & Beef Doner entrée. The fresh, colorful salad that came with it had a tasty dressing, possibly with pomegranate, though I can't say for certain. The lamb and beef doner had a texture reminiscent of roast, well-seasoned and very enjoyable. The décor of the restaurant was inviting, the service was attentive, and the overall experience reminded me of my travels in Turkey. On a Wednesday evening after being on the computer all day, my wife and I finally got hungry and wanted dinner different from our normal routine. I've been wanting to try the food at The Chef's Table only because I've read about it and it's literally in our backyard so off we went for a dinner adventure. The place had a few diners and we got seated immediately. We looked over the menu and to be honest, I've studied it online so the food was almost familiar except for tasting it. We split an order of Lentil soup, which was lukewarm at best. I wanted it hot because it was a cold night. Anyway, we ordered our entrees and my wife wanted their chicken Pide and I ordered the Beef Kava. The Pide is like a pizza shaped like a boat thats loaded with flavor of high quality cheese and their chicken sliced thinly that nestled in the gooey delicious cheese! I got half a slice and it was tasty, hot and delicious! My dinner came in hot too - just like the chicken Pide. The mixture of exotic spices, tasty beef and the butter rice made for a very satisfying dinner. I had no idea I love Turkish food! It is delightful! The ambiance is warm and inviting. There were a few tables there and the kitchen is right in the middle of it all. You can see the chef prepare your order. I prefer hot food to be served as soon as it leaves the chef's expert hands. This is the way it should be. Overall, I love the place and although I loved my dinner, it didn't love me. I had a little trouble sleeping that night as I burped the spices back! Not fun!
