I came to this new spot (3 months open) on Sunday to check out the new kids, and I am so glad I did. Upon entry, my guest and I were greeted promptly and invited to sit anywhere we liked. My guest and I immediately noticed the traditional Turkish aromatics that filled the establishment. The waitress who tended to our table was engaging and explained the menu in depth as well as vouched for the food's authenticity. As my guest and I wanted to try multiple menu items, we elected to order the dishes that offered an array of food. Appetizer: Cold Platter This dish included hummus, babaganoush, dolma, ezme, and piyaz. The plater was properly "stacked" with the flavors of the app. going from "punchy" to mild. The piyaz was a perfectly balanced white bean salad packed with Mediterranean flavors. This combination of white beans, tomatoes, onions, and parsley was simple and yet deliciously satisfying! The dolma on this dish was a perfect combination of filling vegetables, grape seeds, Rumex, hornbeam, and quince leaves, with a kick of lemon. The babaganoush was light and refreshing. The simple combination of roasted eggplant, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and salt is something that is not to be missed if you are looking for a vitamin packed dip. The Ezme "mashed" was made mainly with tomatoes, cucumber, and olive oil and packed a little punch, which most likely was accredited to the peppers. Main: Hot Mixed Platter This dish included meatballs, chicken, beef, and lamb (doner) atop veggies and rice. All the meats on the plate were seasoned to perfection and tender. My guest and I ate the meats so quickly that I am not able to appropriately describe the flavors other than with the a word, "delectable". Dessert: Dessert Platter This platter had a sampling of Tiramisu, čupavci, KÜnefe, and Baklava. Although the čupavci and KÜnefe looked great, I couldn't eat them as they both are made with coconuts (to which I am allergic). I actually took a bite of the KÜnefe before I realized that it had coconut shavings in it. With this dessert, the cheese is arranged between two layers of Kadayıf (shredded phyllo), cooked until golden, and soaked in a sweet syrup. The čupavci (sponge cake) was soaked in chocolate sauce, then dipped in unsweetened, shredded coconut. Fun fact: Čupavci means "furry" because of the fuzzy surface the coconut provides, which I learned when I visited Turkey many years ago. Java Folks who read my reviews know that I am a java junkie. So, of course, I requested the Turkish coffee. Turkish coffee is prepared with more water than its Italian counterparts and is meant to be sipped rather than drunk quickly like a shot. There is also a tradition of reading the grinds at the bottom of the cup to tell fortunes, known as tasseography. Turkish coffee cups are small, similar to the size of an espresso cup, but with a rich history of their own. This coffee is prepared traditionally and provided a much needed pick me up. This family restaurant has authentic quality food and the highest level of service. If in the area, this locally owned spot is worth a try. I recently celebrated my 45th birthday with my family at this place. I enjoy Mediterranean food, and was wanting to check this place out. The space is a decent size and it wasn't crazy busy, which made for an enjoyable experience. We received some bread and a dipping sauce shortly after being seated. The bread was delicious and soft, and paired well with the dipping sauce. I decided to try Hunkar Begendi. This was excellent! It also came with a side of rice which I liked as well. Stopped in to check out Sevin near the Colonnade. It was a weekday and wasn't very busy. It's in the spot where Basil used to be. Really clean and brightly colored interior, and we were told to choose our own table. We went with the lunch specials- two courses for $15.95. Great deal! I started with the shepherd salad, something I grew up with and make at home often. Not good at all. Maybe it was a bad day. DH had the sigara cheese borek and they were pretty good! Crispy on the outside, creamy cheese on the inside. I had the Turkish meatballs (kofte) and they were came with rice, piyaz (delicious) and a cabbage salad. Everything was tasty. DH had the lamb burger. The menu description is written in a way that makes you think tomatoes and feta are burger toppings. When we saw cheddar cheese, we were confused so we asked... apparently tomatoes and feta are inside the patty (can neither see nor taste them inside). He thought the burger was just OK. The best part of the meal was the dessert sampler! The hurmasica was huge and absolutely delicious! Best thing on the plate and I'd probably only order that next time. I had heard that Basil had changed over to @sevinmediterraneankitchen but hadn't checked it out until dinner last night. A dear friend Alison wanted to treat me for my birthday and suggested we have dinner there. I'm always up for trying new places. Emira first shared the menu with us and told us that she's Bosnian but that the chef and the food are Turkish. She mentioned that there were some Bosnian desserts, so my curiosity was piqued. Hubby and I had unsweet tea, and Dad had Lemonade. We all shared the Mixed Cold Plate, which had hummus, baba ganoush, dolma, ezme, and piyaz. Ezme has tomatoes, cucumber, pomegranate molasses, and walnuts. Piyaz was white beans, red onions, red and green bell peppers, and olive oil. Both were new to us but were delicious. Dad and I shared the Hunkar Begendi, which was diced lamb, sauteed onions, bell peppers over creamy eggplant puree, and tomato sauce. The lamb was not as tender as the lamb shank, so it was a little tough for Dad to eat. Hubby had the Lamb Shank, which was very tender, and he shared some with Dad. Kong had the Lamb Shish Kebab, and Alison had the Doner Kebab. She preferred the lamb shish kebab rather than her own dish. For dessert, we all shared the Baklava and tried the Hurmasice. Nice touch with the whipped cream. It's definitely very sweet. Probably would've been good with some decaf coffee! The plus about the restaurant is it's family run. We found this restaurant through Yelp and decided to try it even though there were not many reviews. Overall, it was fantastic! It is a family run restaurant and the decor inside is very nice. They began by serving a very tasty Naan-Pita like bread. It was unique and not strictly Turkish, I think, but really delicious. We tried the lunch special, which includes an appetizer and entree. It was a really great deal. We tried falafel and lentil soup for the appetizers, and beef kabob and salmon salad for the entree. Everything was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly everything came out. One of the owners came out and visited with us to make sure that all the food was done to our satisfaction. It's clear they care about their business and customers. In one word . . . WIN!  We were looking for a new Mediterranean restaurant to try, and the reviews for Sevin Mediterranean Grill were tops.  They were right!  A warm decor, good lighting, and soft music combined to create a charming vibe.  The servers were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive.  The menu is Turkish, but the pastry chef was Bosnian so we were treated to two cultural experiences in one. Shortly after sitting down, we were presented with a Turkish flat bread hot out of the oven with a side of tzatziki.  Great for tear-and-share and scooping up hummus and such. We ordered the mixed cold plate as our app.  It included hummus, babaganoush, dolma, ezme, piyaz, a fresh order of bread.  I'd never had Ezme which is a mixture of tomatoes, cucumber, pomegranate molasses, and walnuts.  It really popped with flavor and I loved it.  I would have taken a better picture, but we dug in immediately without hesitation before I thought to take a pic. Guess we were hungry . . . Yum! For entrees, my wife chose the Turkish meatball and I chose the lamb shank on an eggplant purée with a sauce derived from the drippings and a side of rice. Full of flavor.  The eggplant purée served the dish like mashed potatoes, but it was far more silky in texture. Really delicious and enjoyable to eat. The pasty chef explained that she makes traditional Bosnian deserts as well as Baklava. She took us over to the desert counter and explained all the options. She was super friendly and happy to educate us. We selected something called Hormasica which was served with ice cream and two cups of complementary Turkish tea. Hormasica as a flavor profile similar to baklava, but in sort of a fried pancake format. It was really good. We also got an order of baklava to go. In short, we highly recommend Sevin Mediterranean Grill. It is a lovely family owned place with good vibes, great service, delicious food, and at a great value for the quality and experience we received. What a way to start the weekend. My wife and I paid Sevin a visit early Friday evening to try out their chicken kebabs. Well let's just say the kebabs were perfect. So was the Turkish meatball. Same with the Adana kebabs. But my favorite part of the meal was the starters. Creamy hummus, fresh Greek salad, olives, and the best puff bread you can sink your teeth into. After leaving a movie while here in San Antonio, I looked up Middle Eastern restaurants in the area and Sevin came up. After reading the reviews we made the decision to go and give it a shot. Our experience there was phenomenal. The owners, the service and of course the food exceeded whatever expectation we had. The restaurant is clean and lovely. The owner recommended the dinner for two dish. So we took her recommendation. The dish has a sampling of all the meats over a bed of rice, vegetables, and salad. This was plenty for two people. Afterwards for dessert she had us try 2 different baclavas. One was walnut based, the other pistachio based. We capped our meal with Turkish coffees. I will have to say that whenever I return to San Antonio, I will be returning with gusto. read more

I decided to visit my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in San Antonio, Basils. I pulled into the parking lot and was disappointed to see it was no longer there and that a new restaurant was in its place, Sevin Mediterranean Kitchen. I decided well, why not. I was already here. Let's try the new place. Well, I just found my new favorite Mediterranean restaurant! I came here and was educated that not all Mediterranean food is the same. This place specialized in Turkish food. Their chef has over 30 years experience in Turkish Cooking. Kenan was or server. He was very personable and helpful. He explained the Turkish twist from the former restaurant. I asked is they served Naan bread. He explained they did not, but they did serve a similar Turkish bread and if I enjoyed Naan I would enjoy their bread. It came to the table and was similar to naan with white sesame seeds. It was very good. We were also provided complimentary mixed olives and a dill, cucumber and yogurt sauce. Our appetizer was falafel. Very different than any falafel I have eaten in the past. Typically falafel is very crispy and filled with a lot of herbs mixed in the chickpeas. The was fried, but more patty like and more chickpea than herbs. It was very tasty. We enjoyed the difference. My partner has the Chicken delight. It was well cooked and well seasoned. It was made with Sautéed chicken breast, mushroom, red bell pepper, creamy eggplant purée, and tomato sauce. I had the Turkish Kofte, which was Ground lamb patties, cabbage, rice pilaf, and navy beans. The lamb patties had a great char and very tender. The taste was outstanding. The navy beans were served cold and tasted well. During our lunch we also interacted with 2 other employees. Everyone was friendly and made you feel welcome. They were truly interested if you enjoyed the food and sought feedback. I will be returning. They are only in the 4th week of business and doing a great job. Customers! Selda Mediterranean Kitchen and Bar has bought Sevin Mediterranean restaurant on I10 and Wurzbach and opened just 3 weeks ago. I'm sure the name will change on here soon. This restaurant owners/chef has come down from North Dallas where they have a successful restaurant of the same name and expanding to open another restaurant in Dallas called The Mayors House by Selda. We met one of the owners, Serdar. Very nice man. Thank you for your hospitality! Boy, it did not disappoint. The decor is modern with very comfortable blue velvet chairs! We sampled a few dishes between 3 of us. We had the Falafel combo, Turkish Doner, the Lamb Shish, spinach and feta pida, fried cauliflower. Our meals were accompanied by a wonderfully refreshing bean and cucumber salad and Turkish rice. They also gave us complimentary baklava and Turkish flan to try. I have to say, this was some of the best Turkish food I've had here in San Antonio. They did tell me they will be closed starting this Weds for 10 days to add a bar to the restaurant. Upon entering, you will be welcomed into this inviting space, by the owners. We picked where we wanted to be seated, and it was beautiful with cloth napkins, candle, and a nice ambiance. It is perfect for conversing with your dining partner(s), not too loud, easy listening ethnic music in the background which fades into the overall scene. There are beautiful images of different regions and cities of Turkey on the walls. Everything on the menu looked delightful, we selected the cold plate appetizer, the platter for two, and also the dessert sampler. Even the water was good! My husband and I were very impressed with the service of the husband and wife, who described every menu item that we questioned. We asked for suggestions, and they happily and kindly explained what most people desire, upon their first visit. The cold plate included hummus, yogurt dip, and other wonderful sauces and navy beans. Courtney B. describes it with proper names and terms in her review. The bread is perfectly baked, with tasteful sesame seeds, and golden warmth. Our main dish, which was the platter for two, was beautifully presented on a wooden tray. Various meats, salad, and vegetables were all delicious! Dessert, baked by owner (wife) was a sampler of many wonderful pastries, including Baklava and more. It was the perfect touch to end an amazing dinner! Everything is home-made from family recipes. **Hidden Gem** Had such an amazing dining experience here at Sevin! The ambiance, the service, the food, everything was perfect! We were given some Turkish bread and amazing olives, and tzatziki! The flavors were so fresh was well balanced, and the presentation was amazing. We shared the mixed hot plate. The zucchini pancakes, the falafel, and feta spring roles were so so good! I loved the feta spring rolls. My girlfriend got the Lamb Shish Kebab and I got the Chicken Delight plate. The flavors were very deep and complex, and mixed so well. Very umami! The desserts were amazing as well, and it was the best baklava we've ever had! As we were getting on i10 from wurzbach parkway and found this restaurant on Yelp. It was a gem in the corner.
