My wife and I stepped out for a dinner date as usual. I saw this place and great ratings so I decided to try it out. Upon arrival I realized I worked right behind this place for 1 year and never knew about it. When we walked in they were very busy. This was a great sign for me to know others like the food. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table as they do not take reservations and it was full. They do not have anywhere to wait inside. You have to sit in chairs outside the door or in your car. They will call you when ready. We where called about 15 minutes into out wait and sat. The waitress came over and greeted us with waters and we purchased a bottle of wine (they did not have a bottle that they have in their online menu but we were able to find a back up). We ordered food and where brought bread with oil and herbs. My wife ordered the lamb chops that came with mashed potatoes and cream spinach. I ordered the lasagna . The Lamb chops were cooked medium as ordered but they lacked flavor as well as the potatoes . She had to add salt and pepper to the dish . Really doesn't take to cooked food as it does hen you cook with seasoning. The lasagna was pretty tasty I must stay and not to heavy. Paired very well with the wine we had . First time here and did not disappoint. We started off with the Uvalde Fried Mozzarella. I am not a honey fan but I could not get enough. Sodas are in cans, so you pay for each one. I had the fettuccine di Parma and added chicken. You can tell everything is made fresh to order because it came out steaming. The sauce was nice and light, but be ready to take the plate home for left overs because it is a generous portion. The place is a decent size, but definitely smaller than I was expecting. We've been remodeling a home here and have been to tired to dress up so instead we've order carry out. Saturday night was our first time we ordered the Bronx Chicken Parmesan which comes with a phenomenal pasta and broccoli. My husband and I shared it with a Caesar salad. We craved the pasta and today ordered the lasagna and the seafood ravioli. Both winners again but we agreed the lasagna with the beautiful homemade pasta and béchamel was a tad better than the ravioli. The restaurant isn't a secret here in San Antonio as the parking lot for a Saturday night was so crowded we drove around twice. I know I have a new favorite restaurant in town when I stop in not once, not twice, but THREE times in a single month. That was during the month of February after watching an Instagram reel a user posted of the cheesy deliciousness that is the Pollo Bronx Parmigiana entree. I absolutely HAD to try it after seeing the long trail of melted cheese that gets drizzled over the dish. I love everything about this unassuming spot located in a strip mall off Babcock Rd. From its cozy interior and expertly decorated space to the absolutely delicious food and to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. I can't speak highly enough of Mare e Monte. The food obviously is the true showstopper here and what brought me back so many times after raving about it to multiple friend groups. Hands down my favorite (and again what first brought me in) is the Pollo Bronx Parmigiana dish. All of the flavors of this dish combine together to create something truly incredible for the taste buds and it's definitely a cheese lover's paradise the spicy red pepper jam that they use on the dish really puts the dish over. the edge and gives it a nice pop. The freshly baked (and complimentary) sourdough bread service is also amazing. Make sure you don't let it go to waste like you might at other spots. If the Pollo Bronx Parmigiana perhaps isn't your style, the Pollo e Monte entree is another delicious option. Again another dish that's full of flavor and the duck fat potatoes were soooo good. The experience was above and beyond any expectations...they are in a strip center, but when you step inside, it's decorated super cute and just bursting with personality. We walked up to the door and were greeted by Prince, one of the owners. He opened the door and shook our hands and said welcome home. In fact, he stopped by our table twice during our visit. He made it a point to stop at every table. It was a not holiday Saturday around 430 and almost every table was filled. I think we got the last one and then there were people waiting outside the entire time we were there. The waiter came and took care of us promptly and warmly. He was on point the entire meal. The waiter brought us fantastic fresh bread with olive oil dipping right when we sat down. The wine selection was very good. We couldn't decide on one of the dishes, so our waiter brought out a sample of the sauce for us to try. He also brought us fresh bread halfway through our meal. My friend got the Sole Oregenata with spinach and asparagus risotto. I tried the Spicy Rigatoni and added a meatball. This dish comes with crumbled veal on top, but it was no problem to leave the veal off. Both dishes were so delicious! The tshirts some of the staff wore said "welcome home". You had me after that first bite, or at least that is what I told the friendly manager when asked how our meal was coming along. Since the meat on a lamb chop is so thin, it takes a skilled chef to prepare it medium rare properly and to not overwhelm the flavor with seasoning. Lasagna was good, it's more of a sweet red tomato sauce (not my personal preference, i like more acidic sauce) but still very good. We asked for extra sauce for the lasagna initially because the menu said "add extra sauce for $4" and our waitress said no, so we were confused. Came to Mare e Monte last week for a celebratory dinner. I heard about this restaurant through social media and I was intrigued! First impressions were a 10/10. The owner held the door open for me as I walked in and the welcome was warm! Though the restaurant was busy we were seated immediately. The owner came by our table and let us know his top picks and came to see how we were doing. There was definitely a "welcome to our family" kind of vibe that I loved! We started with the Calamari and it was amazing. I ended up ordering something I saw on their TikTok which was the 'Sole Oreganata' and y'all please believe me when I tell you this was so good! There are definitely some different dishes I would like to try next time but this dish will be added to my rotation! I went a few weeks ago and the food and service was amazing. Our wait was about an hour. I probably would have gone on a different day, but I had a gift card. It's the one on their video where they pour the cheese on top from the table. The table next to us had a more dramatic pour with a LONG cheese pull, but they were in a hurry. Our server was the bomb. An absolute gem of a find. The ravioli (stuffed w lobster) were excellent, as was the Caesar salad and the burrata appetizer. Despite the place being super busy and packed, the staff made it such a warm and inviting place, and the owner clearly takes a lot of pride in the high quality service here. Amazing Italian restaurant with a great vibe. We got here at 5:30pm and there wasn't a seat available, it was hopping! The waitstaff was amazing and the owner made everyone feel welcome and at home. We had the crab and shrimp cake that was delicious as was the warm French bread. We split the Caesar salad which was flavorful. read more
