Everything was really good. I had the spinach manicotti. I also tasted the dumpling and bread it was was really tasty as well as the chicken Parmesan and the tiramisu was really good too

They overbooked the restaurant the night we dined here and had a reservation at 8pm. Didn't really give us an explanation or an estimated wait time. Also didn't offer to comp anything. Just said there were people in front of us. We waited it out and got seated at 8:40pm. Waiter didn't say anything about the wait time. Once we were seated the experience was fine. The food was very good and the waiter was attentive. Highly recommend the meatballs, spinach dumplings and the fettuccine prosciutto pasta. The chicken parm was recommended to us but honestly, id skip it next time. Found a bone in it. OH ALSO. We paid for 2 hr parking across the street and because we were delayed in seating by 40 min, we went over the time by 15 min and now we have a $100 bill to cover. Thanks Battalion!

A beautiful restaurant from the moment you walk in, old fire station turned restaurant Waited a good 40 mins with a reservation sat at bar until table was ready sat and ordered and the 1 demerit they did not have the New York strip available as part of their meat, it had "Just" sold out which is one of the best to have in any restaurant, the food we did order was good great salad and chicken parmigiana the ambiance is fantastic red beautiful lighting sets the tone soothing chill music plays in the background. Definitely try it for restaurant week. Quick note the restaurant has no parking you have to pay for it

Fantastic place. Fantastic service. Fantastic food. Our server was TOP NOTCH. He recommended the spinach dumplings and he could not have been more spot on. They were so good. The ambiance is amazing. A definite date night spot. You must go if you have never been.

Our first experience at Battalion was amazing! We went for an early Mother's Day celebration and everything was wonderful! The ambiance is so unique and total design/decor of the restaurant is on point. The food and service experience is one of the best we've had & I can't boost enough about Kelly!!!! He guided our experience through it all = he is top notch! Highly recommend Battalion & request Kelly's section

Lucas was amazing! Wow! Service was Impeccable! I mean, I want to hire Lucas to work for my office. He was that good! We didn't have a reservation, so we were going to sit at the bar but the chairs near the bar looked so inviting. We sat there and Lucas took great care of us. I was there on a mission, meatballs and bread with all 3 dipping sauces. Everything was Amazing as usual! My friend from out of town was very impressed by everything. If your looking for Amazing service, ask for Lucas (hes behind the bar) and if your looking for great apps, you Have to try the meatballs and bread service, that ricotta and honey, man... oh man! That garlic oil!!! Fire!

New menu is great! Love the watermelon salad just wish the herbs where cut smaller, the mint was very large and a bit overpowering. The shrimp spaghetti is a 10/10!!!

This place has such unique character! My fiancé and I dined with Battalion for our 10th anniversary and we had such a lovely time. Our server was sweet and attentive without hovering too much, and even brought us a complementary slice of Olive Oil and Lemon Cake to celebrate our occasion. Everything was absolutely delicious, but my favorite had the be the Three Cheese Beef and Pork Meatballs. Savory, sweet, rich in flavor, this meal hit all the marks. I'd highly recommend Battalion, especially for a date. The ambiance, food, and service were all excellent and worth sharing the experience with.

I managed to sneak in online around 3pm to make a 5pm booking for our family We got there as soon as the restaurant opened. The check says that our server was Wacey. I honestly cant remember if he said his name but he was AWESOME! He looked after us so well but it wasnt over the top either. Like if someone came over to his house. He went through the menu told us how much to order what to order. I love it. I worked at restaurants and I always told ppl honestly if they were ordering too much We had the bread to start with. bomb! So good! Then the spinach dumplings. The sauce was so good Out of all our mains my favorite was the chicken parmesan. My least favorite was the lasagne as it was a little dry. The potatoes had too much paprika. I love pannacotta. This one was a little too sweet for me but the tiramisu was good. Prices were really good too

We had been wanting to try this place! Not disappointed. Trying to experience downtown more before all the new construction hits (although there is still plenty of current construction - lol!). Great time. Excellent service! Great appetizers and very good wine selection. A bit pricey but good serving size and absolutely delicious!

Chicken Parm

Restaurant week was yummy! We started with spinach dumplings and meatballs. Our dinner was the NY Strip and Chicken Parm. We added the Trenne Bombay Dessert was S'more Pana Cotta and the cannoli. (They were out of the tiramisu) Every course was incredible. I really love this restaurant . The staff is super friendly and I love the ambiance

This has been on my list for a long time, I was just looking for a reason to celebrate. It was worth the wait the wait staff was so kind and explained everything on the menu before ordering, even going as far to make sure I like bitter drinks before putting in my drink order(saved me). They had extended restaurant week so we were able to participate in that as well. We got meatballs, chicken parm, burrata, ravioli, tiramisu and cannoli. Not one food item disappointed us and we will definitely be recommending.

It's my third time here and it's been a while since I visited but just not sure I will bother to come back. Service was generally good throughout the night - and it's a fun location with nice vibe as an old firehouse. We began with the bread with sides and that was the highlight of the meal - bread was delicious, light and fresh, whipped ricotta was phenomenal as was the garlic in oil. Could have easily eaten more of that and our group loved it! Burrata was good, needed a little more something but was good overall. Spinach dumplings were delicious with the right hint of truffle but were lukewarm and temperature was off through the meal. Then we moved to mains and sides / I had the brown butter ravioli. It was 4 large ravioli; not warm enough and definitely not cooked enough. Good pasta should be al dente but these were downright chewy. Beets with mascarpone was good but needed a little more seasoning and it was hard to determine what temperature they were supposed to be , same with carrots. Prices here are exceptional and it allows you to try lots of little dishes for the table First time I ate here it was phenomenal but just not liking temperatures, seasoning and cook on pasta so not a favorite for me I am afraid.

Ask the Community - Battalion

Does it accommodate parties of 15-20?

Where do you park?

Street parking is available; that's your best bet.

Is Battalion kid friendly?

Yes, but my son (9) is an adventurous eater and well-behaved. He ate the burrata, sans balsámico, some Florentine steak cooked medium, some pasta Milanese, and bread. He's been hungry from the hotel pool and this place was perfect on a Sunday…

Is it very loud? My parent have a hard time with background noise sometimes....

Yes! It's loud, they should go elsewhere if they would noise is an issue. Good food though.

Does this place have gluten free options?

Yes they do. You might need to ask the server.

Do they have happy hour?

I don't think so. But the bar is super nice and worth your visit. On top of that, the customer service is great.

What is the dress?

I saw some people dressed very casually because this is San Antonio after all. I would recommend wearing something nice like if you were going on a date you wanted to impress. I feel like if you wanted to dress extra nice for a special occasion then…

Any vegan options?

Not sure if the spinach dumplings are vegan...

The food feels like the chefs were given good quality materials, but had no idea what to do with them. We ordered a funghi pizza to share then a cinghiale, a costine (short ribs), and a dentice (bass). Funghi pizza was the only dish that made coming worth it at all. It had a nice flavor, but if you're expecting the notes of an earthy mushroom flavor, don't. It's just a nicer version of a standard cheese pizza topped with some onions and mushroom. The cinghiale was just stunningly mediocre. The meat was flavorful, but the pasta itself was shockingly bland. It was just so... ok. The dentice was the best of the 3 individual dishes, but it is just what you would expect some average short ribs with random sauce to taste. The costine was just terrible. Salty on the outside, yet flavorless on the inside. Avoid at all costs. The service was passable, but they clearly overwork their servers as one server just handles an entire section and is too overwhelmed to be timely. I came to cheer myself up, but honestly it only made dinner comically worse. I seriously can't imagine what would cause someone to rate this as 5 stars. Maybe if they thought Olive Garden was 4.5, then I guess this would barely be a 5 in comparison? Either way, if you're looking for good food for your dinner, keep looking. You won't find it here.

It was incredibly creamy and paired so well with the fresh toppings and bread. Definitely a must-order. And of course, we had to end with dessert--the tiramisu was unbelievably creamy and indulgent, with just the right balance of sweetness and espresso flavor. Absolute perfection. Truly every person at the table seemed to love what they ordered -- we had a lot of "you have to try this!" moments being passed around the table. One thing I especially appreciated was the Caesar salad. I noticed another review mentioning the anchovy flavor in the dressing as a negative, but in my opinion, that's exactly what made it great. For me a Caesar should have that briny anchovy depth, and this one tasted freshly made and perfectly balanced. It felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. Between the warm atmosphere, truly fantastic service, and food that everyone enjoyed, it made for a really memorable evening. We'll absolutely be back! Thank you Renzo's for taking such great care of us!

Not too hot, just that easy breeze rolling off the river like it's got nowhere else to be. I'm there with my daughter and family, and the world's walking by boats cruising, people laughing, a little chaos, a little charm... dinner and a show, no ticket required. Now the food real Italian food. Not the kind that just throws red sauce at you and hopes for the best. This is layered. Garlic that actually means something. Rich, buttery sauces clinging to perfectly cooked pasta like they're in a lifelong commitment. You taste herbs, you taste depth it's the kind of Italian food that makes you slow down mid-bite and just nod like, "Yeah... they got this right." Drinks? Smooth enough to keep ordering, strong enough to make you question your life choices in the best way. Service was dialed in. That's where it gets dangerous. Because you sit there watching the River Walk roll by, the noise, the laughter, the movement... and suddenly two hours disappear. You're ordering dessert you didn't plan on, another drink you don't need, and nobody at the table's in a hurry to leave. I came for Italian food... ...and ended up staying for everything else.

Meals- We ordered the Capellini Pomodoro Crudo & the Spaghetti ( Spicy ) The red sauce is delicious on the spaghetti. The Crudo, it was a little disappointing. It hardly had any roasted tomatoes in it and large chunks of mozzarella that never melted. The olive oil was very present & not much else. So we went online and made a reservation. Upon arrival, we had a large round table set for 10 ready for us. Our waiter, Rami, was really nice and worked hard all evening to take good care of us. The restaurant itself is along a quiet area of the River Walk in an old stone building with tons of charm. The ambiance was relaxed and inviting, perfect for a group dinner. As for the food, it was good but not exceptional. I was excited for the Goat Cheese Pizza with balsamic onion, pistachio, and saba. The thin crust, however, was almost too crunchy and a bit tough to eat. The toppings didn't stand out as much as I had hoped, likely because they were overbaked together. Overall, we had a lovely dinner with great service, a charming atmosphere, and good - but not great - food. 4 stars for now. I would return and try again.

However we realized quickly EVERYONE was waiting outside and they had clearly overbooked or had some issue. Finally, after waiting 20 minutes we were sat. The waittress was kind and let us know the kitchen was having some issues so food would be a little delayed between courses. It was about 60 degrees outside and we kindly asked to turn off the outside fans which were on full blast. Once. Then again, and again, and again. After 5 attempts asking various people we gave up and the waitress let us know she couldnt turn them off because their iPad control died. We werent upset at this we were just upset we kept getting different answers and no explanation for our entire 2+ hr meal. We finished the entree and were waiting for the dessert for about 15 minutes until we finally just flagged down a waittress and asked to get the check and desert to go because we were ready to leave. We waited another 10 minutes before someone else brought us our desert but no check. We asked them for the check and then the original waitress came back with our check and another set of deserts. At some point I saw another server who seemed like the manager or supervisor telling another worker to straighten the tables outside so the corners were aligned... needless to say the table alignment was not the issue. Overall just seemed like the restaurant was overwhelmed and there wasn't alot of communication between tables and the staff. It seems the staff was trying their best but the management wasn't handling it well. Would have appreciated more effort into making sure we were taken care of considering the meal for 2 totaled almost 300$. The only reason this isn't a one star is because of the kind waiting staff.

As far as the food, we had the fried mozzarella, which was essentially a log of cheese deep-fried and served over sauce. It was delicious, but the cheese-to-crust ratio was a bit heavy. The Caesar salad looked better than it tasted. It was very wet, if that makes sense, and the lettuce seemed soggy. Now for the Wagyu ragu. This almost made me have a seizure, and not in a good way. It was extremely salty and completely inedible, so we had to send it back. The waitstaff was very accommodating and agreed that the salt level was way off, so we replaced it with the carbonara. I'm not sure if that's what authentic carbonara is supposed to taste like, but I did not enjoy it. It tasted burnt to me and had too much pepper. I also didn't care for the shape of the noodles. Last, we had the Americano pizza. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. I just think that if you're going to advertise a pizza with meat on it, there should be more than one piece of sausage per slice. As far as the service, our server was fine. Not particularly friendly, but straightforward and efficient. The manager (or another server) was helpful when it came to replacing our dish. Overall, I would not go back. The location is great and the vibe is nice, but the food was a miss. Save your money and go somewhere else.
