Carajillo
Ethan Z.

Excellent staff and ambiance. I loved the dim lowlight around dinner time which was perfect for a date night. While that was not the occasion of my visit, as myself and friends were celebrating a birthday. I arrived early and got the party started solo while the rest of the group were on the way. I got a Carajillo and was might impressed. It was crafted to perfection with a creamy espresso blend and blissful boozy finish. I loved the drink and wished my later entrees followed up the mmmph! Overall the restaurant does many things well, had great plate presentation, and a rotating menu, just felt a bit let down by the strength of flavor for my pasta. Would certainly return for drinks and small bite, just not maybe a full course meal.

Overall, it was good. The spinach dumplings had a texture issue, but were fine. The cocktails were good. The bread service and olives were good. Service was ok. For awhile we kept seeing other people filling out water and whatnot before our water came to take our drink order again. The inside is cute. Nice date spot or meet up for friends.

Olives

So disappointed. This place is not what it use to be. Went for anniversary dinner tonight just to find out it's a corporate sell out. The bread and olives use to be my favorite. They changed up the olives and they don't have the honey butter anymore. The butter they had was too cold to even spread on my bread. For my meal the Spanish manicotti it tasted like it had a corn husk cooked around it. Sadly it's nothing like I remembered. I was planning on taking some people from out of town next week, im glad I didn't.

We had a wonderful dining experience and will definitely be back! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious--from the fried calamari and perfectly cooked lamb chops to the shrimp spaghetti and the fried green beans topped with goat cheese. Every dish was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The drinks were also fantastic. I only wish I could remember their names because they were that good! To finish the evening, we enjoyed the tiramisu, which was delicious and the perfect ending to our meal. While it wasn't complimentary for our wedding anniversary celebration, it was still well worth it. A special thank you to our waiter, Robert, who was excellent, attentive, and very helpful with our menu selections. What also stood out was how the entire wait staff checked on us throughout the evening to ensure everything was perfect. The atmosphere was equally enjoyable. The bar groove-style music playing throughout the restaurant created a chilled, relaxing vibe that made it easy to unwind and enjoy our anniversary celebration. It was the perfect soundtrack for a great evening. One thing to note is that secure parking is available for a fee; otherwise, you'll need to find curbside parking if available. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with outstanding food, delicious drinks, attentive service, and a relaxing ambiance. We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating our wedding anniversary here and look forward to returning again soon!

They overbooked the restaurant the night we dined here and had a reservation at 8pm. Didn't really give us an explanation or an estimated wait time. Also didn't offer to comp anything. Just said there were people in front of us. We waited it out and got seated at 8:40pm. Waiter didn't say anything about the wait time. Once we were seated the experience was fine. The food was very good and the waiter was attentive. Highly recommend the meatballs, spinach dumplings and the fettuccine prosciutto pasta. The chicken parm was recommended to us but honestly, id skip it next time. Found a bone in it. OH ALSO. We paid for 2 hr parking across the street and because we were delayed in seating by 40 min, we went over the time by 15 min and now we have a $100 bill to cover. Thanks Battalion!

A beautiful restaurant from the moment you walk in, old fire station turned restaurant Waited a good 40 mins with a reservation sat at bar until table was ready sat and ordered and the 1 demerit they did not have the New York strip available as part of their meat, it had "Just" sold out which is one of the best to have in any restaurant, the food we did order was good great salad and chicken parmigiana the ambiance is fantastic red beautiful lighting sets the tone soothing chill music plays in the background. Definitely try it for restaurant week. Quick note the restaurant has no parking you have to pay for it

This place has such unique character! My fiancé and I dined with Battalion for our 10th anniversary and we had such a lovely time. Our server was sweet and attentive without hovering too much, and even brought us a complementary slice of Olive Oil and Lemon Cake to celebrate our occasion. Everything was absolutely delicious, but my favorite had the be the Three Cheese Beef and Pork Meatballs. Savory, sweet, rich in flavor, this meal hit all the marks. I'd highly recommend Battalion, especially for a date. The ambiance, food, and service were all excellent and worth sharing the experience with.

I managed to sneak in online around 3pm to make a 5pm booking for our family We got there as soon as the restaurant opened. The check says that our server was Wacey. I honestly cant remember if he said his name but he was AWESOME! He looked after us so well but it wasnt over the top either. Like if someone came over to his house. He went through the menu told us how much to order what to order. I love it. I worked at restaurants and I always told ppl honestly if they were ordering too much We had the bread to start with. bomb! So good! Then the spinach dumplings. The sauce was so good Out of all our mains my favorite was the chicken parmesan. My least favorite was the lasagne as it was a little dry. The potatoes had too much paprika. I love pannacotta. This one was a little too sweet for me but the tiramisu was good. Prices were really good too

Fantastic place. Fantastic service. Fantastic food. Our server was TOP NOTCH. He recommended the spinach dumplings and he could not have been more spot on. They were so good. The ambiance is amazing. A definite date night spot. You must go if you have never been.

We had been wanting to try this place! Not disappointed. Trying to experience downtown more before all the new construction hits (although there is still plenty of current construction - lol!). Great time. Excellent service! Great appetizers and very good wine selection. A bit pricey but good serving size and absolutely delicious!

Chicken Parm

Restaurant week was yummy! We started with spinach dumplings and meatballs. Our dinner was the NY Strip and Chicken Parm. We added the Trenne Bombay Dessert was S'more Pana Cotta and the cannoli. (They were out of the tiramisu) Every course was incredible. I really love this restaurant . The staff is super friendly and I love the ambiance

This has been on my list for a long time, I was just looking for a reason to celebrate. It was worth the wait the wait staff was so kind and explained everything on the menu before ordering, even going as far to make sure I like bitter drinks before putting in my drink order(saved me). They had extended restaurant week so we were able to participate in that as well. We got meatballs, chicken parm, burrata, ravioli, tiramisu and cannoli. Not one food item disappointed us and we will definitely be recommending.

Ask the Community - Battalion

Does it accommodate parties of 15-20?

Where do you park?

Street parking is available; that's your best bet.

Is Battalion kid friendly?

Yes, but my son (9) is an adventurous eater and well-behaved. He ate the burrata, sans balsámico, some Florentine steak cooked medium, some pasta Milanese, and bread. He's been hungry from the hotel pool and this place was perfect on a Sunday…

Is it very loud? My parent have a hard time with background noise sometimes....

Yes! It's loud, they should go elsewhere if they would noise is an issue. Good food though.

Does this place have gluten free options?

Yes they do. You might need to ask the server.

Do they have happy hour?

I don't think so. But the bar is super nice and worth your visit. On top of that, the customer service is great.

What is the dress?

I saw some people dressed very casually because this is San Antonio after all. I would recommend wearing something nice like if you were going on a date you wanted to impress. I feel like if you wanted to dress extra nice for a special occasion then…

Any vegan options?

Not sure if the spinach dumplings are vegan...

We tried to come on Tuesday but we couldn't get in, so we ended up reserving for Wednesday evening. We sat outside on the patio, and had Matthew as our server. He was awesome. Very attentive, plenty of recommendations, funny, and just generally made the experience enjoyable. It was a perfect weather evening but know the patio is just on the front sidewalk. For food, you can't go wrong with the meatballs, and the burrata was good too. The pastas are fresh made and really tasty, I had the gamberi (minus olives) and I'd recommend it! Others at my table enjoyed their food too, including the branzino. Recommend giving this place a try!

The burrata was fresh, and really light! 2) Meatballs- the meatballs were tender and flavorful. Main dish- carbonara was good! I wish there was more flavor to it because it is not authentic the way the Italians make it! However, this might be a modification for regional palettes. Service: Matthew was the star of the show! He was funny, and attentive despite having tables inside of the restaurant to tend to as well. He kept the drinks flowing and the jokes coming! Ambiance: The restaurant is cute and quaint! There are plenty of seating inside the restaurant and a handful of seating on the patio as well. We sat outside because it was a beautiful night to people watch and enjoy the weather. The patio seating is along the S Alamo walking path, which made for very wide sidewalks! Reservations: I'd recommend having a reservation because there are nights where this place is slammed!!

We eventually joined the monthly bottle membership, which probably says everything about how often this place works for us. The bruschetta boards are generously portioned with enough variety to lean savory, sweet or somewhere deliciously in between, and they pair perfectly with an easy bottle of wine. It's casual enough for a spontaneous stop but still feels polished enough to make an ordinary evening feel like a treat. One of the highlights is when they open the large bar windows and the whole space shifts into that indoor-outdoor mode. You can sit inside, outside or right along the open-air edge and enjoy the best of both. We've even come here after a full dinner somewhere else just to linger, lounge and finish the night with another pour. Postino has easily become a San Antonio spot for relaxed sips, shareable bites and easy neighborhood vibes.

The bruschetta flight was wheat bread (yuckyyy) and the toppings were skimped on. Flavor was not there for the food. I forced myself to eat it all too because I refuse to waste food in this economy but my bf didn't like any so I was accepting the challenge Wine was a basic glass and the atmosphere is kinda odd aesthetic. Not sure what their vibes or theme is. Kinda just plain. One bartender and she was kinda spacey and ppl were flagging her down for service. There was a man next to us at the bar and he was clearly a regular. He knew bartenders name and she knew his and the conversation was more professional / business customer service than friend. He said his meatballs didn't taste normal or good and I heard the bartender tell him either the chef quit or is on vacation and someone else was back there. He sent it back but was trying to tell her he didn't want another one but she got a manager and came out they said they were sorry and making him another one. Not sure if I went on a one off but I doubt I'll be back if in the area.

They have a variety of pasta types to choose from. I particularly like the cork screw pasta. It is important to note that the restaurant and the market prices are reasonable. Cons: service was bad. The food is good but not to die for. Went during the week and it wasn't busy. Aside from us (party of 2) there were 4 other tables occupied with small parties. Will start with the host, who wasn't at his post. That's fine, no issue probably has something to do. We waited for awhile. Another couple, with a labradoodle walked up, when the host walked up and he sat them first. I know he knew we were waiting first. The couple asked to sit outside and the host informed them they have the option to sit inside, which the couple took so the fur baby wouldn't be hot. When the host came back, I asked why he sat them first when he clearly saw us waiting and he gave the uncomfortable chuckle but no answer. Asked where we wanted to sit and I said not by the dog. (Really nothing against the dog, I just didn't want to sit by the couple he ignored us for). Moving on to the service. Waiter was slow in attending to us. Messed up boxing up the food so he went back to rebox it and took awhile to get the check to us. Overall food and atmosphere was good but service can be improved. The next week I mentioned that I had tried Fife & Farro to some people at a party and their impression was basically the same as mines "good venue and food but bad service". Which it did make me feel better that at least they are consistent and it wasn't just us. This is the kind of place to go if you have nothing but time to kill.
