Renovating, but why so dirty at the tables?
    Kevin F.

My coworker and I like to find places open late and Cedar Geill came up. I had visited before several years ago at a previous location. I wasn't aware on this visit that they had moved until I got there. The sign says La Mirage Cafe, so I called to confirm I was in the right location. The friendly voice assured me we were and that they were open. When we walked in we were greeted by a lady who let us know she only spoke Spanish. So we had to try to keep our order simple and uncustomized. For an appetizer, I ordered a fried ball of dough with ground beef inside...keffe or something like that. I didn't care for it, but that doesn't affect my ratings since I didn't really know what to expect. Difference in taste and all that. I also ordered a chicken kebab wrap which was very good. My coworker seemed to enjoy her food (hummus and something else I don't remember). All in all, the reason for the low score was not for the food, but because I think they need signage (even temporary) to let the public know who/where they are, someone who speaks English enough to take a full order, and cleanliness (see picture). Also, we weren't checked on hardly at all and we didn't know whether to pay at the table or at the register so we waited quite a while to get someone's attention to take our money. I would like to try back in a few months when they're hopefully done renovating.

I got the lamb shish kebab plate. The meat was burnt, rubbery and so salty it was almost inedible, even after drowning it in the garlic sauce. The rice was alright. The Mediterranean salad did not have any dressing on it so it was bland. The best part is the dish was the dolmas and I'm pretty sure they were store bought.

Finally got to try. Unfortunately I had to Uber it. I feel by the time I get the food it takes away a little from the quality. Still very good. Got the mixed gyro and it was good. The rice was great. I added a chicken noodle soup thinking eh, it will be basic. The chicken noodle soup was the star. Not to take away from everything else but it just stood out. It was really really good. Definitely try this place and don't forget the soup. You won't be disappointed. Thanks y'all.

SO DISAPPOINTED! We saw this place on Instagram on the @bestfoodsanantonio so we decided to give it a try. We ordered takeout and went inside to pick up and NONE of the employees were wearing masks! This is a time where it's mandatory so this was upsetting to see. Then we get home and open our takeout containers and instant disappointment. We barely got any chicken!! My plate had so much cold rice and only 6-7 pieces of chicken! It was so bland and dry, I had to drown it in the hummus. And then not to mention the bread tasted old. I am so upset we wasted our gas and money to come here for this

Disappointed. 4 thin slices of meat on a gyro. Couldn't even taste the meat. Also super confusing to find this place. It's cedar grill online, but outside it's listed as the mirage.. or something like that. There is an actually "cedar grill" up the road, but it's a Pakistan restaurant- not cedar grill. Will likely never be returning.

Nice quiet place close to my work. I love Middle Eastern Food and wanted to try this place. Good price for lunch special. Gyro, beef or chicken is $6.99. I was super hungry so I also ordered a side of Falafel. I like the upbeat Arabic music. The soup had flavor and did not need salt or pepper. The Beef gyro had very generous portions of beef, onion , tomato and sauce. No need to request extra. The Pita was super fresh and soft. I got there right when they opened and by the time my order was ready they were really filling up.

Our twelve guests ranged in age from 14-79 years, and everyone had a wonderful experience. We began with waters for the table, soft drinks, and cocktails/mocktails (Man Walks into a Bar, Amba No. 5, Don Alberto, Green Shug Collins). Due to our large party, we had booked a chef's tasting experience, which was spectacular. The appetizers were plentiful, flavorful, and unique. Our server, Anissa, did a wonderful job of explaining each dish-- its components, highlights, even suggesting that after finishing the beef dumplings, we stir the oil and yogurt together for an amazing pita dipping sauce. Our meal included four meats-- actually five, considering an off menu chef's creation for our pescatarian guest. It was such an immersive experience, I never took out my phone to capture photos of the food (or our group, sadly). Three desserts topped off the evening. When (not if) we return, we'll certainly request Anissa again. She made the evening a complete delight, even bringing out celebratory candles for our honored guests.

The hummus with the fresh pita was probably my favorite part of the meal, and the grilled skewers had a really nice char without being dry. The Turkish coffee was also strong and really good. We left quite stuffed and extremely satisfied. It was a nice day so we ate outside but the interior was very pleasant and was filled with diners even at 2 pm. Upon entry, my guest and I were greeted promptly and invited to sit anywhere we liked. My guest and I immediately noticed the traditional Turkish aromatics that filled the establishment. The waitress who tended to our table was engaging and explained the menu in depth as well as vouched for the food's authenticity. As my guest and I wanted to try multiple menu items, we elected to order the dishes that offered an array of food. Appetizer: Cold Platter This dish included hummus, babaganoush, dolma, ezme, and piyaz. The plater was properly "stacked" with the flavors of the app. going from "punchy" to mild. The piyaz was a perfectly balanced white bean salad packed with Mediterranean flavors. This combination of white beans, tomatoes, onions, and parsley was simple and yet deliciously satisfying! The dolma on this dish was a perfect combination of filling vegetables, grape seeds, Rumex, hornbeam, and quince leaves, with a kick of lemon. The babaganoush was light and refreshing. The simple combination of roasted eggplant, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and salt is something that is not to be missed if you are looking for a vitamin packed dip. The Ezme "mashed" was made mainly with tomatoes, cucumber, and olive oil and packed a little punch, which most likely was accredited to the peppers. Main: Hot Mixed Platter This dish included meatballs, chicken, beef, and lamb (doner) atop veggies and rice. All the meats on the plate were seasoned to perfection and tender. My guest and I ate the meats so quickly that I am not able to appropriately describe the flavors other than with the a word, "delectable". Dessert: Dessert Platter This platter had a sampling of Tiramisu, čupavci, KÜnefe, and Baklava. Although the čupavci and KÜnefe looked great, I couldn't eat them as they both are made with coconuts (to which I am allergic). I actually took a bite of the KÜnefe before I realized that it had coconut shavings in it. With this dessert, the cheese is arranged between two layers of Kadayıf (shredded phyllo), cooked until golden, and soaked in a sweet syrup. The čupavci (sponge cake) was soaked in chocolate sauce, then dipped in unsweetened, shredded coconut. Fun fact: Čupavci means "furry" because of the fuzzy surface the coconut provides, which I learned when I visited Turkey many years ago. Java Folks who read my reviews know that I am a java junkie. So, of course, I requested the Turkish coffee. Turkish coffee is prepared with more water than its Italian counterparts and is meant to be sipped rather than drunk quickly like a shot. There is also a tradition of reading the grinds at the bottom of the cup to tell fortunes, known as tasseography. Turkish coffee cups are small, similar to the size of an espresso cup, but with a rich history of their own. This coffee is prepared traditionally and provided a much needed pick me up. This family restaurant has authentic quality food and the highest level of service. If in the area, this locally owned spot is worth a try. Total for the meal before tip $89.00 #supportlocal

I hadn't eaten all day, so I was absolutely ready for calories and nutrients. I ended up getting a falafel plate that let me mix and match a few things -- falafel, babaganoush, tzatziki, grape leaves, and an eggplant salad that sounded interesting. I didn't realize the eggplant salad would be served very cold -- like straight-from-the-fridge cold -- which just wasn't my thing. The falafel itself was okay, but not great. It was kind of chewy and brown all the way through instead of that nice warm, soft, and green-on-the-inside falafel you get at really good spots. The dolmas were fine, the tzatziki was a little too creamy for me, but the babaganoush was definitely the standout -- rich, flavorful, maybe a bit heavy on the oil, but I didn't mind it. When the server checked in and asked if something was wrong with the salad, as I had not made a dent in it, I mentioned it was really cold, and he said, "That's how it's supposed to be." Fair enough -- just not my preference. Overall, it was a decent lunch for around $20 including tip. The location is pretty unassuming, and it did the job for a quick midday bite, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come back.

It doesn't feel like a strip mall restaurant. It feels intentional. The pastry case alone deserves its own review. Piped butter cookies, rose-dotted squares dusted with cardamom, delicate filled rolls -- it's the kind of display that makes you order dessert before you've even sat down. And then the food. The chicken shawarma bowl is not playing around -- seasoned chicken, kalamata olives, crumbled feta, creamy garlic sauce over a bed of greens, finished with cracked pepper. Every bite is layered and bold. The kind of meal that makes you pause mid-fork and just appreciate it. What sets Tripoli's apart isn't just the food or the ambiance. It's that the whole experience feels curated. Like someone who actually loves this culture built this place and meant every single detail. San Antonio has been sleeping on this gem. Wake up!!

The ambiance was great, everything from the decorative rugs, Arab writing on the wall, tagine pottery and brass crafts were perfectly displayed. The tabbouleh salad was very tasty, it had the right amount of ingredients making it pretty as well as colorful placed in the neat brass metal bowl. Now with the things that require immediate remedial attention: 1. The burger was overrated, overcooked and dry. 2. The chick pea salad lacked chick peas, dressing, onions and feta cheese. 3. The lamb Kofta plate was prepared right however, it was not enough meat for the price and the cream sauce tasted like straight butter with a hint of garlic. The pita bread was lukewarm and looked like it had been unwrapped, quartered and thrown in a microwave for 30 seconds prior to serving it. 4. Drinks Ordered: The Cafe' Arabia was very tasty BUT, I didn't get it until we were almost done with our meal. We ordered drinks when we were first seated so that was a big red flag. My wife also ordered the Moroccan mint teapot and she didn't get it until after I got my coffee. I told the barista/waiter to cancel it when I got my coffee but he said it was also ready for us and could put it in a to-go cup for her. That kind of defeated the whole experience of drinking tea while waiting for our meal. 5. The service was really slow. Took over 15 minutes to get our (tap) waters and 20 minutes for our food when we were the only ones in the restaurant until we had placed our order. 6. The waitress needs some serious people skills and bussing training to know how to serve food and drinks. She touched the tops of the glasses her fingers. She didn't greet us and practically dropped the plates on the table when she brought them out. To add insult to injury, she put the handheld pay device on the table without asking us if we wanted or needed anything else. My kids wanted to try out some desserts, so luckily for us, the nearby HEB has plenty to offer. I had high hopes for this place because of what the owner posted on Instagram and it is so close to our neighborhood. Guess we will have to continue driving further into the city to other Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern restaurants that have better food and service.
