I am judging the food and not the aesthetics of the place. I got the BBQ Mac and Cheesy tots, overall it was underwhelming and meh. The cheesy tots were just tater tots and melted shredded cheese from the pack, I thought it would be taters with a cheese sauce. Honestly you could make this yourself at home by buying frozen tater tots and package shredded cheese. The BBQ Mac was barely okay and the only thing that saved it for this review. After dreaming of trying this place for months, I finally got to try it out. It's a small spot with about 4-5 picnic tables outside to eat at. They have a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, with fun takes on them. The bread was perfectly crunchy and buttery and was full of meat and mac. The mozzarella sticks were large however they don't give enough marinara but they were cheesy, fried deliciousness. Staff was friendly and they sell alcohol. Still the BEST grilled cheese in the IE. Recently I visited and got a half order of my fav pizza sandwich with a side of tots and it was just enough. But I will give it another shot after yesterday's visit. We finally came before the "Late Night" menu as I've mentioned in my previous review. I had been thinking about Cheesewalla every single day since I visited about two weeks ago.. believe it or not. I was determined to try their BBQ Mac Grilled Cheese and was super disappointed! Maybe it was because of the bread they used. It wasn't what I expected, and the BBQ meat was just lightly packed at the ends of the sandwich-- NOT filled throughout. My bf ordered the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese and both of our sandwiches looked so sad and puny! (I don't want to post the photos I've taken..) I'm really glad we ordered a side of tater tots because now I can vouch for the tater tots and say their tots are 1000x better than their grilled cheese sandwiches. I paid ~$20 for 3 items which wasn't too bad. How can a late night snack actually be more filling than the lunch/ dinner meal? It absolutely makes no sense to me. Quarantine Diaries! I have been supporting tons of local restaurants during the past 2 months and here are my reviews! Downtown Redlands has been really quiet during quarantine. Gladly everyone has been wearing masks and most restaurants are open for curbside pick up or take-out! It was my first time ever coming here and it was legit one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten! Like seriously! They use local sourdough bread that is so sour that it complements all the other flavors in the sandwich. I love that the take out boxes are like mini pizza boxes! The sandwiches themselves can be quite rich so I think it's wise to split them with family or friends! We got the brisket and Mac and cheese sandwich for our entry and the PBC&J for dessert! I was impressed with their simple and comfortable layout. Everyone was super friendly and their beverage option is very impressive. I enjoyed watching them open their spot and ordering was very informative, which I hadn't expected from them. There are three screens with the menu and a counter for the cashier stand and water. The alley entrance is clearly marked and the inside entrance has a painted storefront. The restrooms are inside and they have the code. It's really nicely done. Their tables and chairs are easy to use and navigate, away from the chilly air. Along with a Traditional Grilled Cheese to go and eat later, I got a Caprese and was blown away with how light it was despite the high carb content. My goodness, it was oily but some of the best onion rings I've had with a juicy onion inside. My friend's buffalo chicken loaded tots was delicious and he finished it ALL. It's unfortunate but the quality of food has really gone down. I ordered the soup and salad combo and the tomato soup was inedible. Already pricey at $13 for soup and salad I would at least think I'd be able to eat my meal. The tomato soup had a layer of grease on top and was barely warm, I ended up throwing it away. The salad was decent besides some wilted pieces of lettuce. So was a bit skeptical about another overpriced, under delivering "gourmet" grilled cheese place but I was brilliantly surprised when I went. They make most ingredients in house and they are made to a high standard. In addition, their prices are very reasonable and the hygiene of the restaurant is where its suppose to be. I was in the area picking up some coffee cake and knew I needed to make a stop here. Who doesn't love some grilled cheese? I do! This place is kind of hidden. Its located in downtown Redlands. It is actually located with lots of shops and tons of parking. Just keep on circling around. I decided to order the bbq mac grilled cheese. You can add $3.50 more and you can make it a combo. We decided to get the combo, which includes tater tots and a fountain drink. The wait time for the grilled cheese was about 20 min. I think we ended up getting ours in 10 min. Next time, I think I would order, walk around and come back. The bbq mac grilled cheese was really good. I didn't care too much for the mac and cheese. I would totally delete that out. There was enough cheesy goodness without it. The sourdough bread was toasted nice. I thought the tater tots were cooked perfectly. I could not get an enough of that. You can also turn any grilled cheese sandwich to a tater tots bowl. That looked really yummy. Another reason for me to go back to try. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Enjoyed this first as a tent from their weekly downtown Redlands' market night and they finally opened a brick and mortar. It's hidden in an alley, but there is a sign that can help direct you so keep an eye out for that. PARKING: Street parking. If not, I park at the CVS right across the street and it's close to the alley's entrance. BARBEQUE MAC: I've ONLY had this because it's so damn good! I haven't waived and have stayed loyal to this haha. It comes with bbq beef, mac n cheese, cheddar, monterey jack, onions, and bbq sauce. It's not drowned in bbq sauce too, it's honestly the perfect combo. If you hate bbq, I would not recommend this. This is my favorite and go-to here. TOMATO BISQUE SOUP: It comes in a small cup, but it's actually pretty filling. I would totally get this again and enjoyed it a lot (: I enjoy ordering this to go and dipping my pita bread in it! TATER TOTS: My friend ordered this and I got to try it. VERY good because they're crispy to a perfection where it's crispy on the outside but still warm and soft on the inside. Would recommend this! SPINACH ARTICHOKE: I tried a bite of my friend's sandwich. It was okay but a little on the salty side for me. Very similar to the spinach artichoke dip just less creamy. My boyfriend and I were visiting the area and decided to get some grub. We chose Cheesewalla because of the great Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed! First off the location is an Aesthetic Lovers Dream. There is a Dinning area under some rain umbrellas and wall art, it looks great. The area also included wood benches and tables, it felt very cozy. Secondly, the service was top notch. There was a bit of a line but the cashier was quick to serve us all. She was polite and enthusiastic. The food was made quickly and incredibly well! Lastly, the food! Like I said we received our food fairly quickly. I ordered the Loaded Baked Potato sandwich with cheesy tots and my boyfriend ordered the BBQ MAC with regular tots. For some reason they gave us a whole extra side order of tots.( no complaints here!) my boyfriend was in heaven as he absolutely loves tater tots. My sandwich was great. Perfectly cooked and a little unique. I would definitely order it again. I tried a bit of my boyfriends BBQ MAC and WOW it was delicious. I would definitely Order that next time. *a side note on price. I wouldn't consider this place cheap but it's not quite expensive either. Oh my gosh, I love this place! This is a super cute little grilled cheese shop. We were in the area during dinner time the other day and my companions and I couldn't not stop for some melty goodness! I loved all of their different flavor combinations! Our food took a little while to come out, but I am 100% willing to wait for great food and this did not disappoint. A friend recommended this knowing how much my husband loves grilled cheese, and after trying it we will be back again. I was a little weary when our friends had us walking down an alley at night but then we crossed a street and suddenly it was better lit and had colorful umbrellas strung overhead. Utterly enchanting. It all started with a thought, "there are no good grilled cheese places where I live." But wait...let me check and see. I came across Cheesewalla and it looked like a great grilled cheese shop with great and unique grilled cheese sandwiches and even grilled cheese donut (say what!) Coming back to downtown Redlands after years I must say I was surprised. There was great night life, unique shops and great places to eat. The area kind of reminds of the Packing House in Claremont. Cheesewalla is in similar setting similar to the Packing House. The location is small but offers seating both in the alley and inside the building. I like the location because it is tucked away alley like a hidden gem you stumble upon. I came late where they offered a more limited menu. I wasn't able to the BBQ & Cheese so I opted for the Jalapeño Popper sandwich and of course grilled cheese donut. The Jalapeño Popper sandwich was great in line with what you would expect from a great grilled cheese sandwich shop. I liked the taste of the beacon along with the spiciness of the jalapeños. This sandwich is great with tomato soup which adds great taste to the sandwich. Now for the donut grilled cheese sandwich it was delicious as expected. If you've ever tasted a great donut burger you will not be surprised that a donut grilled cheese sandwich is just as good. The sweetness of the glazed donut along with the melted cheese is perfection. I would say get the grilled cheese donut in addition to grilled cheese sandwich as it is small and more of an appetizer. However, if you're in need of a quick, on-the-go sandwich, you might want to give this place a try. I ordered the PB&J grilled cheese, and my husband ordered the classic grilled cheese.
