Every penny outside of operating costs are used to pay the workers and to better the store for its customers. The store is filled with people of all ages, coming over for their weekly fix of amazing pizza dipped in papi chulo sauce, reading a newspaper, listening to live music, laughing with their friends. You cannot recreate this welcoming culture that begs to be the "third place" for hundreds of Berkeley residents in any other city in the country. This restaurant epitomizes the 70s counter culture of inclusion and diversity that the city of Berkeley and the university prides itself in. By far the best pizza in town!! It's been years since I've been here and it is still as good as before. I love their simple menu which is 1 style of veggie pizza per day because who needs choices when one tastes great. We decided to stop by on a Saturday afternoon for lunch since we were in the area. We went into the Collective first thinking that they had pizza there but realized that they are a bakery and only sold cheeses and breads. We did get a Asiago Olive bread and it was delicious! The inside was soft and the outside was crispy. Then we proceeded next door to order our pizza. Because my husband doesn't like mushrooms, he ordered one whole pizza without it. There is a separate line for that which was way shorter. The pizza was extremely crispy and full of flavor! Loved that the spinach was a bit burnt and it paired well with the cheeses, pine nuts, and parsley! $24 for a whole pizza is actually not a bad price, especially if you're sharing. I could eat an entire pizza on my own if I wanted to! They are closed Sunday and Monday so best to stop by on Saturday if you can. But, the line did move rather quickly and we didn't have to wait when we got up to the register since we got to order our pizza ahead of time since we were inquiring about customizing our pizza to be made without pine nuts due to an allergy. There was plenty of seating inside and outside so that was a plus and they also had a live band playing which was cool. Anyways, I was happy with what was on the menu and even happier after trying the pizza, especially with their green sauce!
