Overall good New York style pizza! Lots of space to eat - downstairs, front patio, and second floor. Nothing thay wowed me but still a decent spot to get NY style pizza.
The best pizza in the Bay area by far!!!! Pretty fast service, it does get busy quickly and there isn't a lot of seating, but there is some upstairs if you have a larger group that can work. The ambiance is cozy and warm, I really like the overall set up here. The pizza though, the pizza is the star of the show! All the pizzasa were so flavorful, but the standouts were the Burrata pizza (it has hot honey!), the Pesto pizza, and the Mushroom pizza was decent too. However, the Cacio e Pepe pizza was pretty disappointing, luckily that was the only one we got just slices of. We also really wanted to try their Pineapple pizza, but I guess we'll save that for our next visit. Oh, and the ranch is great here too! Food: 5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 4.5/5 Overall: 4.5/5
Mama's Boy Pizza is my go to neighborhood pizza spot. The White Pie is my favorite, but the sausage pie is also really good. It's a great spot to hang out over pizza and a beer. The pizza is simple and consistently good. They never disappoint and are a regular on my Bay Area Pizza Passport.
This small spot has plenty of seating and the place was very clean, with really nice and welcoming workers. They offer a couple of vegan slice options, though I saw online they have a few more if you buy a whole pie. The vegan cheese slice was just okay; the fresh basil on top added good flavor, but the marinara was too overpowering and the crust was hard to chew and tasted burnt. The vegan square slice had a great texture; crunchy yet very moist with a strong garlic flavor and capers, but unfortunately, it was just too spicy for me to finish. My friend also tried some of the regular, non vegan options and said they were just okay as well. I do wish they had more vegan slices available. Overall, the food was just okay. If you are already in the area, it's fine to try, but if you live farther away, I wouldn't recommend making the trip.
Haven't explored East Bay's food scene yet, but I happened to be in Oakland and stumbled across Mama's Boy Pizza. It's a classic neighborhood slice shop that immediately reminded me of places back on the East Coast where I grew up. You order up front and the cashier was super friendly and recommended the Burrata slice. The pizza was fantastic. I went ahead and ordered the burrata slice (no surprise if you've been reading my reviews), topped with burrata, hot honey, and fresh basil. My partner got the burrata and the cacio e Pepe grandma slice. It was easily one of my favorite slices I've had in the Bay Area so far. I'd honestly make the drive just to grab pizza here again. There are a handful of seats inside and outside, plus additional seating upstairs. If you're looking for a great slice in the East Bay or even the Bay Area, this place is absolutely worth checking out. I will be back for sure!
My husband found this spot on inKind, so we decided to stop by for dinner on a Tuesday around 6pm. I was pleasantly surprised that there wasnt a line. We decided to order a whole pizza - half burrata and half sausage. We enjoyed both, especially the hot honey on the burrata. Loved the thin crust because it was crispy and paired so well with the ingredients. Glad that there's NY style pizza in Oakland but on the pricier side given that this whole pizza came out to $50. They do sell them by the slice, so I'll most likely order that next time.
Mama's Boy pizza is soooooo good. I've tried the cheese, pepperoni, and my favorite the burrata and hot honey. The creamy burrata pairs beautifully with the spicy sweet of the hot honey. Every component of the pizza is executed really well. The crust is thin with a nice chewy texture and it's not too bready like at other pizzerias. The sauce-to-cheese ratio is spot-on. The downstairs is kinda small but they have plenty of extra seats upstaits.

When people say Mama's Boy is the best pizza in the Bay, they are not lying. They have a decent selection of pizzas available, either by the slice or whole. I HIGHLY recommend the burrata and hot honey pizza! I also love the white pizza with their ranch and Mama's Boy Magic. It is mostly thin crust, crispy pizza, but they have some other options. I've tried the thick crust focaccia pizza and wasn't as impressed as with the thin slice. As for the location, it is street parking, but I have never struggled to find parking. The shop itself is a little small, with a couple tables outside and some inside. The service is quick and the pizza is always hot!
We came here after seeing Dave Portnoy's review and got their classic cheese pie. This is one of our favorite pizza's spots for a New York style slice! The sauce, crust, and cheese is so perfectly balanced in flavor. We've been here a few times now and will continue to be returning customers.
Wish I could give a rating of "0 stars", but unfortunately that's not allowed on Yelp. I was very excited to order from Mama's Boy. I found them on Yelp a few months back and saw they won an award for Best Pizza in the past. Instead I receive a cold, burnt pizza. I ordered via DoorDash delivery, but 1) the driver has NADA to do with the pizza being BURNT BLACK on the bottom and 2) I monitored the drivers location on the app. I'm also a five minute drive from the restaurant, which could only mean that my pizza was sitting on the counter forever before the driver arrived. In all, I'm not happy and in fact, I'm pissed because I ordered this big freaking 20" pizza (their only size), and could barely force myself to eat one slice. Damn near 50 bucks down the drain. Save yourself the hassle and don't end up disappointed like me. I always give the benefit of doubt and weigh the bad reviews from the good - it's always a gamble and this time I lost. If you don't want to be a loser, don't order from Mamas Boy!
Friend ordered 3 pizzas: sausage, burrata and pepperoni for a group lunch. Delivery was quick - about 10 mins - so they arrived warm and smelled great! While I really wanted to love this place, the pizzas unfortunately didn't live up to the hype for me. I have to say of the 3 options, burrata with hot honey was probably the fave with its red sauce, sweetness from the honey, sparsely ripped basil, creamy burrata and foldable thin crust. The other pizzas were a bit disappointing. The crust was overcooked to the point of being burnt, and there was quite a bit of crust left behind. The toppings also seemed overbaked, resulting in dry pizzas that desperately needed more sauce, cheese, moisture, something... I was with a group of six, and while one person was raving about it, the consensus was mixed, so it wasn't just me. It might have been an "off" day, or maybe I'm just not a fan. I do have my favorite spots offering drizzled hot honey on their pizza but has me craving more. I'm not hating on Mama's Boy and definitely recommend you try it! I'll give it a second chance at some point, but only for dine-in to ensure a better experience.

Finally got to try this Cali version of NY Pizza. I prefer these thin and crisp styles of pizzas over any other style...over deep dish, Detroit, suburban medium crust and even Neapolitan. Straight preference. Upon walking in this hole in the wall urban space I knew it was going to be decent to special. First no frills look, nothing fancy or hip, just a utilitarian vibe, where even though we don't have a subway system, it feels like one could have gotten off a train and straight into this store once you hit street level. The smell of NY style pizza also is thick in the air, the smell of baked yeast mingling with a melding of tomato sauce and sparse cheese. And this was all before I even received and/or tasted a slice. Pizzas by slice can be had, they have about 6 you can choose from. They par bake whole pies and just reheat the slices, which is super legit. That reheating makes a slice more crisp, which I tend to swoon for. And if you get it in slice form, it will get handed to you within 5 minutes. You can get whole pies here and I'm sure those are better called in as you can use your travel time as the wait time. Cheese Slice ($5/4.5*) Perfectly thin and crisp. And the sauce and cheese is so sparse and in balance that it won't weigh that thin crust down at all. The cheese is so sparse that there will be no cheese pull, which I think Californians don't understand/prefer. Cept I love it cuz it isn't as rich and oily. I do kinda wish the sauce had more umph but after a sprinkle of oregano and red pepper flakes, it turns out just fine. I also think the outer edge of the crust is a bit too big and tough, like you really have to chew that mofo. But I like to roll my slices so that crust is intergrated with the rest so it balances everything out nicely. And I ate this in one hand as I roamed the streets of Uptown. The crisp bites, the tomato and light cheese tandem all mingled with urban city air and just made perfect sense. Pepperoni ($5.50/4*) They use good quality pepperoni, small but thick slices. Definitely makes it greasier which may make this a one and done for me. Wish I could have added mushrooms to this to balance it out more, cuz as is, is just too salty and one note for me. But to a basic bish pepperoni eater, this should fit the bill just fine. But I'll round up to a fiver cuz we simply don't have many of these out here, so to offer this within my reach is quite the lucky circumstance. Gotta give them props on making my bar hopping for this area much more complete and complimentary. Hells ya! read more

Dear Momma, your Boy makes an exceptional pizza...... Ignored all the caution signs and venture deep into the heart of O' Town...Street parking was tough to come by, so just do as the locals do - get creative and make it happen...LOL... -Vibe inside was chill. Lines were hella deep with hungry peeps trying to get a slice of the pie....Counter seating was very limited, luckily space was available upstairs.... ***PIZZA: definitely the very BEST NY style pizza in the Bay Area.... It was that GOOD. Pizza display - very inviting. So many flavor profile to choose from. "Wish i had the munchies."..... Combination Pie - made to perfection. Thin and crispy- excellent carriage - crust was able to hold topping without the FLOPS, very nice. Sauce and topping complement very nicely w/ fresh mozzarella. Add a generous dash of "Mike's Hot Honey" = the PERFECT BITE.....yummy. -Finale Thoughts: someone better call OPD cause I'm bringing HELLA CASH to Oakland for a DOUGH HANDOFF - getting involved in a SLICE DEAL. Been getting that pepperoni itch and craving me some Momma's Boy Pizza....yep it's that serious....you should definitely give it a try.... read more

OMG! the burrata pizza is insane. Dave Portnoy was not lying when he said best pizza in the bay - this place is amazing! I couldn't decide, so I got slices of pepperoni, the white pie and the burrata along with garlic knots. None of it disappointed, but the burrata was definitely the standout. read more

Such a cute, casual pizza spot in Oakland! The vibe is laid-back and perfect for a quick bite or hanging out with friends. They have seating both downstairs and upstairs, which is nice if it gets busy. We ordered 2 grandma pies and 2 regular pizzas, and everything was delicious. The crust had a great texture and flavor across the board, but the mushroom slice was definitely my favorite--so good and super flavorful. Overall, a solid spot I'd definitely come back to when I'm craving pizza in Oakland! read more
By far the best pizza in the entire Bay Area! Better than Tony's in the city. Santos and de rest of the staff are extremely welcoming, helpful and attentive as they are hard at work at the same time. Lovely ambiance! Outside there's two tables if you like. Conveniently located three business down from Broadway and W. Grand on the right hand side. Inside you can sit on one of the two tables or on their long stand up counter. They also have upstairs seating as well! With many tables available. By far the best Neapolitan in the bay. Great undercarriage. No flop jalop here. They are giving New York a run for their money. As it's better than most in New York as well!! I highly recommend the burrata pie. I also had a slice of the cheese pizza, and it was superb! This time I ordered a burrata pie with half of it pepperoni with Mike's hot honey on the pepperoni half only. OMG! Heaven! A must try. Next time Im ordering a Grandma pepperoni Pie. No matter what Pie you order, get a slice of cheese you have while you wait. Plenty of cold water available. As well as chili flakes and oregano and Parmesan. Please do yourself a favor and try Mama's Boy pizza. You will thank me when you have your first bite! Swag is also available. Bon appetite!!! You mean the best out of the following? - ASONY (SJ location only) - Bibo's (SJ) - Escape from NY (SF) - Gioia (Berk, SF) - Hi Hat (SF) - Outta Sight (SF) - State of Mind (Peninsula) - The Pizza Shop (SF) - Tony's Pizza Napoletana (not Slice House that's a franchise) Damn, those are some fighting words! *Flips cap backwards and cracks knuckles* Opening in 2023, Mama's Boy has been kinda under the radar until recently when they were featured in a national "best of pizza" list and with El Presidente's (Portnoy, One Bite Pizza) naming it the "Best Pizza in The Bay". Open for takeout, delivery, indoor dining (2 levels), and limited outdoor seating. M E N U * NY Slices: $5-$7 * 20" Whole NY Pies: $36-$46 * HH Special: Monday - Thursday, 2 pm-6 pm: 2 slices (cheese or pepperoni) + draft beer for $14. * Wednesday Special: Meatball Sub Self-serve water. S L I C E S * Cheese ($5) I love how thin the crust is, but the pizza felt oddly bland with not enough cheese or sauce. I wish the pies were slightly underbaked because when reheated, the outer crust dries out while the undercarriage becomes overly crispy. * Pepperoni ($5.50) Best slice of the two, tho a bit dry/too crispy from the reheat. The Ezzo-style pepperoni's rich, bold smokiness elevates the mild cheese slice, while the nicely charred, crispy cups provide a perfect contrast to the soft, melty cheese. Mama's Boy is everything that pizza should be and then some! I absolutely have my favorite pizza places in the Bay Area, but Pizza has become its own subculture on both sides of the bridge. Seriously, it's a thing. Everyone has an opinion, and here is mine... If you're looking for the most authentic New York pizza experience, this is where you're going to have it. This place is busy all of the time. The cashier has that East Coast sass, which I don't know if that's by design, or maybe she was just having a rough day. Pizza is no longer that inexpensive quick meal. Especially here. An entire pie will run you about $50. Yes, you read that correctly. We went for a couple of slices because the intention was to have literally a quick bite and not necessarily make a full meal out of this. Although, I was pretty full afterwards. The pepperoni pizza is mouthwatering delicious. The crust is thin, light, flavorful, and then you put all of the yumminess on top of it, and I'm telling you this is a perfect pizza slice. The pepperoni has those nice crispy edges to it and it's not too salty. It's a work of art. The burrata pizza, is that unassuming slice that takes over your taste buds, and goes from looking like a basic slice, to be in the most amazing slice of pizza ever. Service is pretty decent considering the consistent foot traffic, and Wood always feels like a never-ending line of people. This is truly a pizza place. Sure they have a few other things they have on the menu, but this isn't a hey let's go have 50 other items and pizza. No, you're here for the pizza. If you want an adult libation, they offer a few, but their drinks are fairly limited all the way around. Definitely it must try when you're in Oakland, and don't make the mistake that we did by just grabbing a couple slices, just order the whole damn pizza. You will thank me later. read more
Pizza joints like Mama's Boy is definitely turning me into a pizza snob in the best way. My boyfriend and I shared a pepperoni, mushroom, and sausage slice. The crust is thin and crispy and holds the toppings well. We also shared a salad which was refreshing and yummy. I think there's a bottle of chili oil and it makes the slices so much better. On the pricier end, but the food is delicious and you're supporting a local restaurant so there's no complaints on my end. Plenty of seating as well with street parking available or parking garage down the street. read more
Walked in the cashier is usually so kind. She must have been having a day. So I ordered thee burrata slice. I felt rushed so I didn't order anything else. Mind you I been to church. I'm feeling excellent. So maybe that's why I felt her vibe was off. Placed my order it was quite a few people before me. Understandable. It will be a wait. She walked if without giving me my receipt! No thank you no anything! No it will be about 10 min. Nothing! Fine So it was a short wait! The young man came up and said Nina. I said do you say Nina he shook his head! The bag was pretty huge! I said oh that can't be mines. The cashier looked at me and said THE BAG! Kind of rude like Dugh! Are u blind! Anywho I stepped outside to eat my pizza! I lve lve their pizza! I can't believe I've honestly never been to Mama's Boy, and still I'll have to venture over there for a hot, fresh slice in-person. Although for the big game, we ordered delivery service and had a 20" Cheese, Caesar, Choco Chip Cookies, side(s) of Ranch, and a tote delivered. We ate well! The ranch is so delicious, and we ordered a packet of the Mike's Hot Honey to drizzle on top & the crust. I just noticed on the menu the Mama's Boy Magic (whipped burrata with hot honey, $3) for the crust! Ok ok, next time. The flavors were all there and omg those freshly baked cookies, icing on the cake. Would love to try the Pineapple (mozzarella, bacon, pineapple, onion, pickled Serrano) and one of the white pies ~ the Mushroom with lemon cream sounds divine. They also have heros (sandwiches) and other salads/dessert/sides. Oh! And looks like boozy options too. All in all, I'll be on my way soon Mama's Boy for some IRL moments to try all the things right from the oven. We've been cheering this spot on for quite some time and love seeing the community praise and recognition. Pizza in Oakland is creating quite the fun scene to follow and be apart of. I came back to try the burrata pizza and omg this one was TOO good! One of my favorite pizzas! If you try anything from here, it has to be the burrata. And if you put extra hot honey on there, it makes it 10x better The service was friendly and fast. There were plenty of seating upstairs which was nice and clean. Wow, how did I forget to write a review for Mama's Boy?! I came here when they first opened in 2024. This place is located on morning route when I like to stroll around Lake Merritt. It's not too far so I thought, hey there's a new pizza joint, I'm going to take a walk, order a pie, and enjoy at home. Little did I know, I was walking back with a ginormous box of deliciousness. Is it strange seeing an average sized girl with a giant pizza box walking down Broadway st? Perhaps, but I've seen stranger things. Anywho, the pizza has to be top 5 places in the bay for sure. Fast forward to present, Mama's Boy has been my go to for a quick slice for myself or to share the joy with others. The white garlic is probably my fav but you can't go wrong with a cheese. I tried their marg on a focaccia style bread and that was just as good. They're doing something right here guys, come check it out! read more
Was recommended this pizza spot by a friend, so we decided to stop by for lunch. When we arrived, there wasn't much of a wait, which was nice. We ended up ordering the garlic knots along with the sausage, burrata, pesto, and spicy puttanesca pizzas. Overall, all of the pizzas were really good, but my favorites were definitely the spicy puttanesca and the burrata since I love honey on pizza. Each pizza felt unique and not like your typical slice spot. The garlic knots were just okay though, and I'd probably skip them next time. The inside had a nice vibe and would be a great place to hang out with friends. I'd definitely come back again. read more
Went in before the lunch rush and ordered two pizzas. The staff was friendly while we placed our order. The ambiance is cozy for a pizza place. They have seating on both the lower and upper floors. The pizza was cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed every bite. read more

Been here 2 times now. Make sure to sign up for their loyalty program to get some discounts/perks. Can we talk about how big the slices are?! It's massive! The slices are so thin and packed with flavor. Fold it up like a taco and eat. So far I've tried almost all the flavors except for the pesto and vegan cheese one. Some offerings include: mushroom, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, white, burrata, supreme, grandma's pie: cacio e pepe or pepperoni, etc. What I noticed is that they have some of their pizzas on display and reheat back in their wood fire oven. Some of the offerings, they do make fresh by hand. The ones that they do reheat, I noticed the bottom of the pizza slices or crust is kinda burnt. Not my fave part. Their house-made ranch is sooo addicting. They bake their own chocolate chip cookies, which is really good! Service is nice. There's even more seating upstairs! Staff work efficiently to get those orders out! I would come back. Please make sure there aren't any burnt crusts or bottoms! read more
Mama's Boy, tucked into a modest Oakland storefront five minutes from the 19th St Bart station, inspires (deserved) loud internet and local devotion, with its Top 50 lists, Instagram reels, the whole digital chorus. Finally, I dined here yesterday and can happily report that the hype is more than earned. My friend and I ordered four slices to share between us: burrata, cacio e pepe, mushroom, and sausage. Paid around $30 for the two of us and had leftovers, a hard find in this economy. Our cacio e pepe was a revelation. Built on a Detroit-style base with a focaccia-like crumb, it's one of the best bites of bread I've had in recent memory. It doesn't lean pepper-forward, making it something of a misnomer actually; the slice skews sweet, thanks to the "sweet ricotta". We joked that the slice was almost dessert-like, the way many Asian sweets are. That's not a jab by the way. The burrata is another standout and rivaled our cacio e pepe's excellence. Cool, creamy burrata melted into tangy tomato sauce, finished with a drizzle of hot honey. Absolutely divine. Rich without being overly heavy. It's indulgent but not excessively so. Among the best pizzas I've eaten in the Bay Area. The mushroom slice, another favorite, is generously topped with mushrooms and laden with lemon cream. Never had lemon cream before but it's a necessity I never knew I needed, helping to cut the savoriness of the mushrooms. The Sausage, rarely my first choice, is made convincing at Mamas Boy. My one gripe is how rich it can be, but the scattered chiles throughout help to cut through the fattiness. Despite not being my first choice , glad we tried it. Slices arrive quickly and hot; exactly how they should. Even after only four slices (leftovers neatly divided between us), I can't imagine a misstep anywhere on their menu. Very well may have been one of the best meals I've had in the past month, maybe longer? Will definitely return again. read more

Delicious pizza & friendly workers. I stopped by with my dog & they were ok with me having him while I order. They had few seats inside and on the counter and upstairs but I opted just for take out & eat at the lake. This pizza was so good & the ingredients were fresh and the pizza was nice and hot. They also sell hot honey bottles if you want to add that. I'll definitely return to try other items! read more
sf is def lacking a great pizza joint which is why im so happy mama's boy is able to fill that need across the bridge! the burratta is incredible and definitely a must try. i might argue a perfect slice of ny style pizza. they have both seating indoors and outdoors as well as a section upstairs and you order at the counter. read more
I've lived in New York, so I've had my share of NY style pizza -- and Mama's Boy on Grand Ave definitely holds its own. The pizza strikes a nice balance between traditional style and a well-executed crust. It's not overly greasy, just the right amount, and still has great structure. The pepperoni is a standout: nicely crunchy with crisped edges that add real texture and flavor. Overall, this is a solid neighborhood pizza spot that I'd happily come back to when the craving hits. read more

Great New York style pizza in Oakland! We got there at around 8pm on a Saturday and it was decently busy, but there was no line to order. It took around 10-15 minutes for our order to come out, but I've heard it can take much longer on busier days, so do be prepared to wait a bit if there are more people ordering when you get there. There are a few seats inside the restaurant, with a few tables upstairs area as well, which I found to be nice. We got their Burrata and Mushroom pizza slices. I personally loved the Burrata with hot honey! The burrata pieces matched with the hot honey was a wonderful mix between sweet and salty. It kind of reminded me a bit of L'Industrie in NYC. The mushroom was delicious as well with a hint of lemon that paired well with the creamy mushroom sauce. Definitely one of the best pizza spots I've tried in the Bay Area! read more
