Overall good New York style pizza! Lots of space to eat - downstairs, front patio, and second floor. Nothing thay wowed me but still a decent spot to get NY style pizza.

The best pizza in the Bay area by far!!!! Pretty fast service, it does get busy quickly and there isn't a lot of seating, but there is some upstairs if you have a larger group that can work. The ambiance is cozy and warm, I really like the overall set up here. The pizza though, the pizza is the star of the show! All the pizzasa were so flavorful, but the standouts were the Burrata pizza (it has hot honey!), the Pesto pizza, and the Mushroom pizza was decent too. However, the Cacio e Pepe pizza was pretty disappointing, luckily that was the only one we got just slices of. We also really wanted to try their Pineapple pizza, but I guess we'll save that for our next visit. Oh, and the ranch is great here too! Food: 5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 4.5/5 Overall: 4.5/5

Mama's Boy Pizza is my go to neighborhood pizza spot. The White Pie is my favorite, but the sausage pie is also really good. It's a great spot to hang out over pizza and a beer. The pizza is simple and consistently good. They never disappoint and are a regular on my Bay Area Pizza Passport.

This small spot has plenty of seating and the place was very clean, with really nice and welcoming workers. They offer a couple of vegan slice options, though I saw online they have a few more if you buy a whole pie. The vegan cheese slice was just okay; the fresh basil on top added good flavor, but the marinara was too overpowering and the crust was hard to chew and tasted burnt. The vegan square slice had a great texture; crunchy yet very moist with a strong garlic flavor and capers, but unfortunately, it was just too spicy for me to finish. My friend also tried some of the regular, non vegan options and said they were just okay as well. I do wish they had more vegan slices available. Overall, the food was just okay. If you are already in the area, it's fine to try, but if you live farther away, I wouldn't recommend making the trip.

Haven't explored East Bay's food scene yet, but I happened to be in Oakland and stumbled across Mama's Boy Pizza. It's a classic neighborhood slice shop that immediately reminded me of places back on the East Coast where I grew up. You order up front and the cashier was super friendly and recommended the Burrata slice. The pizza was fantastic. I went ahead and ordered the burrata slice (no surprise if you've been reading my reviews), topped with burrata, hot honey, and fresh basil. My partner got the burrata and the cacio e Pepe grandma slice. It was easily one of my favorite slices I've had in the Bay Area so far. I'd honestly make the drive just to grab pizza here again. There are a handful of seats inside and outside, plus additional seating upstairs. If you're looking for a great slice in the East Bay or even the Bay Area, this place is absolutely worth checking out. I will be back for sure!

My husband found this spot on inKind, so we decided to stop by for dinner on a Tuesday around 6pm. I was pleasantly surprised that there wasnt a line. We decided to order a whole pizza - half burrata and half sausage. We enjoyed both, especially the hot honey on the burrata. Loved the thin crust because it was crispy and paired so well with the ingredients. Glad that there's NY style pizza in Oakland but on the pricier side given that this whole pizza came out to $50. They do sell them by the slice, so I'll most likely order that next time.

Mama's Boy pizza is soooooo good. I've tried the cheese, pepperoni, and my favorite the burrata and hot honey. The creamy burrata pairs beautifully with the spicy sweet of the hot honey. Every component of the pizza is executed really well. The crust is thin with a nice chewy texture and it's not too bready like at other pizzerias. The sauce-to-cheese ratio is spot-on. The downstairs is kinda small but they have plenty of extra seats upstaits.

The pizza slices at Mama's Boy are an absolute standout, showcasing a slim, crisp foundation with beautifully blistered, airy edges that provide the ideal chew. The left slice pairs savory, robust meat toppings with a vibrant sauce and perfectly melted cheese, while the right slice elevates simplicity with fresh, creamy dollops of burrata, fragrant basil leaves, and a touch of chili flakes. When a pizzeria nails both hearty toppings and refined flavor combinations this perfectly, choosing just one slice is impossible, making the choice to grab both the only correct move. Best of all, the exceptional food is always paired with great service, making every single visit a fantastic experience from start to finish. Don't forget the ranch and peppers!!

When people say Mama's Boy is the best pizza in the Bay, they are not lying. They have a decent selection of pizzas available, either by the slice or whole. I HIGHLY recommend the burrata and hot honey pizza! I also love the white pizza with their ranch and Mama's Boy Magic. It is mostly thin crust, crispy pizza, but they have some other options. I've tried the thick crust focaccia pizza and wasn't as impressed as with the thin slice. As for the location, it is street parking, but I have never struggled to find parking. The shop itself is a little small, with a couple tables outside and some inside. The service is quick and the pizza is always hot!

We came here after seeing Dave Portnoy's review and got their classic cheese pie. This is one of our favorite pizza's spots for a New York style slice! The sauce, crust, and cheese is so perfectly balanced in flavor. We've been here a few times now and will continue to be returning customers.

Wish I could give a rating of "0 stars", but unfortunately that's not allowed on Yelp. I was very excited to order from Mama's Boy. I found them on Yelp a few months back and saw they won an award for Best Pizza in the past. Instead I receive a cold, burnt pizza. I ordered via DoorDash delivery, but 1) the driver has NADA to do with the pizza being BURNT BLACK on the bottom and 2) I monitored the drivers location on the app. I'm also a five minute drive from the restaurant, which could only mean that my pizza was sitting on the counter forever before the driver arrived. In all, I'm not happy and in fact, I'm pissed because I ordered this big freaking 20" pizza (their only size), and could barely force myself to eat one slice. Damn near 50 bucks down the drain. Save yourself the hassle and don't end up disappointed like me. I always give the benefit of doubt and weigh the bad reviews from the good - it's always a gamble and this time I lost. If you don't want to be a loser, don't order from Mamas Boy!

    Burrata pizza
    Cheryl M.

Friend ordered 3 pizzas: sausage, burrata and pepperoni for a group lunch. Delivery was quick - about 10 mins - so they arrived warm and smelled great! While I really wanted to love this place, the pizzas unfortunately didn't live up to the hype for me. I have to say of the 3 options, burrata with hot honey was probably the fave with its red sauce, sweetness from the honey, sparsely ripped basil, creamy burrata and foldable thin crust. The other pizzas were a bit disappointing. The crust was overcooked to the point of being burnt, and there was quite a bit of crust left behind. The toppings also seemed overbaked, resulting in dry pizzas that desperately needed more sauce, cheese, moisture, something... I was with a group of six, and while one person was raving about it, the consensus was mixed, so it wasn't just me. It might have been an "off" day, or maybe I'm just not a fan. I do have my favorite spots offering drizzled hot honey on their pizza but has me craving more. I'm not hating on Mama's Boy and definitely recommend you try it! I'll give it a second chance at some point, but only for dine-in to ensure a better experience.

Looked good, took a bite and it was nasty, turned it over and realized it was burnt. Cant believe they delivered this unedible mess to me.

It makes a difference. For four of us, we ended up with about 3/4 of a pie left. We each ate 2-3 slices. The pizza itself is huge, way more than I expected, so come hungry or be ready to take some home. Service was fast too, they clearly have their process dialed in and it's fun to watch the whole kitchen. Parking wise, there is a small lot but that can fill up, and you're still fine with street parking right there. Such a simple menu but everything they do, they do really well. My second visit was closing weekend with a group of friends. I got to try two more flavors recommended by the server during my first visit - blackberry and longanisa. Both were very good in different ways. I think I preferred the blackberry slightly over longanisa. They had a lot of take out orders that day, and we got the last white dough (there were still Ube). Good thing we got what we got. Even though they were super busy, the service was still quick and pizza came out fast. I heard they opened up again in San Francisco but for take out only. Their pizzas are already reliably delicious, but this deal is genuinely outstanding value since you get a large 18" pizza, your choice of a Caesar or dinner salad, and four very large sea salt chocolate chip cookies, all for $35. We grabbed two of these specials for a group of six and still had leftovers, so I'd say one combo easily feeds three people and could probably stretch to four as long as no one is absolutely starving. The pizzas themselves are ultra thin but still hold up structurally since you can lift and fold each slice without everything collapsing, which is exactly how I like to inhale my pizza. I personally wish the crust were just a touch more burnt and crackly on the edges, but even without that extra char, the flavor and bouncy chew of the dough were spot on. We ordered the Hot Italian and the Sausage & Roasted Garlic pies and absolutely loved both, especially the housemade sweet Italian sausage that appears on each, which is savory, slightly sweet, and super satisfying in every bite. Their house tomato sauce deserves its own shout out because it hits that ideal balance of sweetness and acidity and ties everything together perfectly. On the Sausage & Roasted Garlic it plays beautifully with the rich roasted garlic purée, and on the Hot Italian it stands up nicely to the Calabrian chilis and chili oil without getting lost. The sea salt chocolate chip cookies that come with the special are huge and packed with chocolate chips, and that little hit of salt really enhanced the flavors but the something about the texture was a bit off for me as it wasn't quite chewy or crumbly but rather something in between, which left me a little confused. Another big plus is that Violetta has a full bar so you can pair your meal with a beer, a glass of wine, or a cocktail to match whatever pie you are in the mood for. Between the quality of the ingredients, the thoughtfulness of the flavor combinations, and the generosity of the Restaurant Week deal, Pizzeria Violetta is an easy recommend and a spot I would happily return to with a group (or by myself with plenty of leftovers!).

I don't know why the pies cost so much, but they are only a few blocks from our place, so I want to support the few restaurants that set up shop in West Oakland. However, I'm starting to sour on this place. I don't mind overpaying for pizza; that's just edible, but on a few occasions, I've been appalled by what these folks try to get away with. A couple of months ago, they gave us a pie that was so burnt I had to call to complain, and they replaced it with a less burnt pie. Perhaps they don't know that extremely burnt food is full of carcinogens. This week, we ordered our usual 18-inch pie. This pie was a Frankenstein pie; half of it tasted like it had been sitting under the lamp all day. A telltale sign is how stiff the cheese is; the old dough feels as if I'm chewing on rubber, and the slices are stiff and salty overall, though some slices taste a bit fresher and crunchier. I was disappointed. If you're going to overcharge for mediocre pizza, the least you could do is give people what they are paying for. If I wanted old, stale pizza, I would've asked for the slices that sit under the lamp all day. Moving forward, if we order from this place, I will walk over, place the order, and wait for it, so we don't get cheated again. This place is a reminder of why certain restaurants often fail. The food is overpriced, and they are inconsistent with their service, if not disrespectful, in how they sometimes treat and feed their customers. We're not pigs; we just like eating the sweet little pig.
