Over all it was good. I got to the restaurant rather early (5:30) and it was packed. Even after I left the restaurant there were about 15 people waiting for seats. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Cheddars has always pleased me and I've tried chicken fried chicken, bourbon glazed grilled salmon, fish tacos, spasagna, ribs and tenders, fried shrimp, all their sides and some other appetizers and its all delicious!! They now open at 10:30 a.m. Food and service was excellent. It's a little upscale, but still casual and very reasonably priced. They have an outdoor seating area. One of the busiest restaurants in Springfield at peak times you may have to wait for a table to become available. If you have to wait to be seated they give you a square pager that will light up and vibrate when your table is ready. read more

However, the waitstaff was standing by the hostess podium chatting away and laughing with the manager or over by the bar chatting away. Used to love this place, but recently went in for lunch and was refused to be served nachos with no chips or beans. Our waitress said even the kitchen manager said it was impossible to make. So they refuse to serve me chicken, queso, pico de gallo, and sour cream on a plate. Ended up eating the salmon which tasted great. Unfortunately, with this experience and having to ask three times for a lemon I won't be returning soon and don't recommend them for those with special needs diet. By the way Applebee's accommodates my request without question. It's far from impossible. read more

Food: 6-7. Customer service: 0. Be forewarned: If you call for info about wait times, be prepared to be lied-to; blatantly, flat-out lied to. We called *twice* in 10 minutes, asked for the wait for 2, and were told "no wait for 2" both times. My partner was starving, but craving a Smokehouse Burger, so we went. We got there, and surprise! A 20 minute wait - and it had been that way for an hour!! And that was for a seat in the bar! The food in the past has usually been pretty good. But the last few times we've been at the Springfield location, the food has been lukewarm at best, and the crowd and the noise have been overwhelming. My partner's Smokehouse burger was ok, but the onion rings were just this side of cold, and the "shepherds pie" was just the meat-and-vegetable filling with a pile of potatoes slapped in the middle of it. Add to all this "fun" the servers that are always way overloaded, and the BS that goes with it...sorry, folks, but we're done. We've been loyal Cheddars customers in three different states - my earlier review shows that. But no more. Screw ' em. I would have had better service (and warmer food) down the street at Fazoli's. read more

Cheddars is a great value and bang for the buck. My wife got the fried chicken salad (and it included a "mound" of chicken). I got the bacon cheeseburger. I love the burger and fries. The honey-glazed croissants are really tasty! Highly recommend for the $.60 they cost. Nice place, but you may wait a bit. Secret....if you can, grab a spot in the bar where it's first come, first serve. We heard it had a 45 minute wait, but nabbed a pub table instead of waiting. read more

Service was good. Arrived at busy lunch and they told us 15 minutes. Called us to the table exactly 15 minutes later. Waiter was attentive and friendly. Food was solid if not great. Served my side salad with dressing already on it and way too much. Blue cheese dressing was creamy with no bite to it. Chicken sandwiches with avocado and tomato were good. The food here is pretty yummy, and there are some reasonably healthy choices. Cheddar's is pretty much always packed with customers. And the prices are reasonable. We like the Spinach Dip. We have eaten at Cheddars a lot and enjoy it a lot. However, this time we ordered a jalapeño burger and it doesn't come with fries. So we had to pay $2.00 extra for fries and when they arrived on the plate with the burger, it looked like maybe 10 fries! Definitely not $2.00 worth. Also it took quite a while for our food to come out this time. They apologized for the wait. And they forgot my salad with the meal. The best meal we have had in a long time. I had the beer batter shrimp and chicken tenders. The coating on both tasted amazing. The portion was huge. I had to get a take home box because I couldn't finish it, and that almost never happens! My wife had the chicken fried steak and it was the most tender she had ever tasted. Our server, Miranda was the best! She anticipated our needs (even bringing me more raspberry lemonade before I finished. Somehow she knew I drank a lot ;o) she even brought me another loaded baked potato because she thought mine was a bit small. I didn't even have to ask for it! Great customer service. Let's be honest, with a name like "cheddar's" I wasn't expecting great food or fine dinning. However I did expect a friendly atmosphere and a relatively clean environment. I felt the waitstaff was severely lacking in hospitality and cleanliness (despite plenty of available help sitting around). Waitress rushed to take our order and stormed off when we requested more time to look at the menu. Trash littered the floor and tiled areas where very slick to walk on. We love Cheddars, and love it even more now that the bar area is non-smoking! We like to eat at the bar when Anthony is working. He is friendly, always remembers us, and knows what we like to eat. Fast service, great food, and the price is excellent. If you are wanting to eat at Cheddars for lunch and only have an hour, you may wait that long to just be seated in the main dining area. That is not a bad thing, it is just something to know about Cheddars, it's busy because it's good! So if you're in a rush, I'd head for the bar area. Again, it's non-smoking, and very fast service. Cheddar's is one of our favorite low end restaurants in town, after last night we might have to rethink that. I ordered the cheeseburger, well done. When it arrived I cut it in half and it was still pink. I asked the waiter if they could throw it in the microwave, he said they would cook a new one. The second arrived, this one was more pink than the previous one. The waiter took it back again and said there would be no charge. By this time everyone else in our party was done so I asked for it to go. When we got home I put it in refrigerator. I have now gotten it out to eat for lunch. Put it in the microwave to heat, and again it's STILL pink. Heated a little longer and still not done. Maybe the cook was having a bad night, but I don't think it's very hard to cook a burger, the last attempt he made I told our waiter to to tell him to burn it-still pink. read more
