This place has went down hill. Last time I went I had undercooked salmon. Decided to try it again with 5 of us. Things haven't not improved. My mom got the chicken fried chicken and said it seemed undercooked, I had probably the worst Cesar Salad I have ever eaten, girls said chicken strips and burgers were not good. Ate here last night. As a new restaurant, it was hopping. Fortunately, we arrived a little before the main rush and were promptly seated, albeit in possibly the least desirable table in the restaurant. That the table hadn't been thoroughly cleaned made it even less appealing. Our waitress took forever to find us but was pleasant and polite once she did. She seemed like she might be having a frustrating evening, and this proved true when she forgot my wife's salad. This restaurant is loud. Not quite as loud as BJs in Norman but close. The menu is not vegetarian friendly. The one option I found was a salad paired with your choice of four side dishes (options included broccoli, carrots, beans, broccoli casserole, French fries, baked potato, coleslaw). On the good side, this option cost less than $6. My wife, not a vegetarian, fared much better. The menu has several meat, fish, and meat and fish entrées, as well as hamburgers and sandwiches. My wife chose the chicken pot pie, which she said was quite good. My veggies were okay. Longtime Norman residents might look at the menu and think "Charlestons!" (Especially because Cheddars has hot buttery croissants and a large selection of side dishes.) All-in-all I'd take Charlestons over Cheddars. The ambience and food are better at Charlestons, and it's a bit more possible to have a conversation without shouting. read more

Bad beginning. We were there on a Saturday Afternoon. There was a 35-40 minute wait. There were empty tables all over the Restaurant, as it was 50-60% empty. Upon getting seated Server was polite but proved to be very poor!! As for food: steak was overcooked, several orders were wrong, had no idea who ordered what (I'm not sure how this is possible as we had 4 adults and 3 children under the age of 10), glasses stayed empty throughout the meal, you could ask for an additional drink and it never came and to top it all off never cleared plates and dishes upon completion of meal. These Servers all expect a large tip. Because of the children I never really said much as I attempt to be a positive role model. I left a reasonable and far greater tip than was earned. Someone needs to train these young people (servers) and actually attempt to do a good job and earn an 18 to 25% tip. Overall a really POOR experience. Would NOT recommend to anyone! read more

I've been to Cheddar's several times, and everything I've had is more or less mediocre. The baked spasagna was probably the most decent entree I've had. I've also had their steak and shrimp which was neither good nor bad. Dessert shooters or minis are pretty good especially when you want a small inexpensive dessert, which is an option I enjoy having. It's been a while since I've visited Cheddar's, but tonight's experience was by far the worst. I had no problem with the service, but the food was very lacking and disappointing. I had the chicken fried steak with buttered off-the-cob corn and mac and cheese for my sides. First off, mac and cheese wasn't even hot. It tasted more seasoned than the average mac and cheese, but it felt like it had either been sitting out forever or they just didn't reheat it enough. This applied to both my friend's and my own dishes. On top of that, the chicken fried steak was a piece of burger meat fried in a thick batter that didn't even stick to the steak. When I cut it, the batter just fell off, so I was eating burger meat and gravy. That was pretty disappointing and then I found that the last quarter of my chicken fried steak consisted of battered air. The batter deceivingly makes the entree look like a large portion, but I was not impressed. read more

We came here with about 6 people. Due to a HOSA conference the entire place was packed. I worried we would be stuck eternally waiting for our food but that wasn't the case. Our food came out fast and delicious. We did receive two appetizer plates that were unclean. That was gross but other than that our waiter was good and the food was delicious. My reddish was room temperature he brought it out. I realize with how packed the restaurant was that I shouldn't expect it to be Pete r so I let it slide. The spinach dip was fabulous!!! I don't think I told you about how amazing their croissant rolls were. Tasted like the most buttery, flakey, lightest creation of amazing you've ever had. Just amazing! Everything was good. Sorry to be leaving this but they served me country fried chicken that was still bleeding. The server Taylor was great and I hate that the cooks could not live up to her service. What makes it worse is that after sending plate back a manager never came to our table. This is truly a mark of bad management. There should never be a case that a manager doesn't stop by to apologize and acknowledge a mistake. All restaurants make mistakes on orders or cooking blunders and that's understandable but for management not to acknowledge, well you lost another customer. read more

HORRIBLE service!! No bread/croissants like before when we came. Not even busy and it took 20 MINUTES to get drinks, 2 sodas and 2 drinks at the bar. Honestly I think the bar was the hold up. I've been here twice before since Mother's Day, each time service and food went down hill! Im pretty sure the alcoholic drinks are half of what the actual alcohol content should be. Server did not remove dirty dishes and refills of drinks were extremely slow and even for the kids with their sodas. $140 "lunch" for mediocre food and bad drinks from the bar. Love, love their cocktails! For starters all of their drinks are around $7 and they are pretty big. On to the apps...I love the fried cheese, it reminds me of good Ole state fair fried cheese. Our entree (we were splitting) then arrived which was delivered by the manager and I asked if we could cancel our appetizer since it never arrived. Cheddar's has a new feel and look to everything including the food. I was skeptical about trying it out as I didn't have a great experience the last time I tried it for lunch. I was very pleasantly surprised today during lunch. Our office chose to do our monthly birthday lunch at Cheddar's. Everyone at the table got something different and it all looked great. The food was terrible when we went last Friday. First it started off being told the wait was 10 mins and ended up waiting 30 mins. I ordered chicken strips and ribs. The strips were over cooked but edible, now the ribs on the other hand were like warm and impossible to eat. I tried pulling them apart and they wouldn't come apart. Tried cutting them with a steak knife no luck either. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak and it was a nice golden brown, but was hard as a rock and tasted terrible. I got the dinner size chicken fried chicken,which comes with 2 chicken fried chickens. The CFC were big and not dries out. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Like Charleston's but with way lower prices! I've been to Cheddar's a handful of times now (my profile pic was taken outside of there during an ice storm), and it's been pleasantly delicious every time. The service has also been very good consistently, and the prices deal a final blow to their competition. At most sit down restaurants in its class (i.e. Applebee's, Chili's, etc.), you'll pay at least $2-$5 more per person. Cheddar's also has a better menu than the others, not to mention the superior service. As a note, I've heard that Cheddar's is owned by Charleston's, so it's like having that level of food but at a much more competitive price! Likes: Exceptionally priced, excellent food with friendly service. The food is all made with fresh ingredients, and you can tell they prepare it with care. Their croissants are like $1.79 or so for a half dozen, and they come hot and lightly glazed with some sort of honey-butter cream that is just incredible. They're light and fluffy but still flaky on the outside, just like a real croissant should be. Their menu selection is also very pleasing, including a wide variety of homemade pot pies, talapia with mango sauce, chicken fried steak, fajita quesadillas, Philly cheesesteak, and quite a few other standard favorites and non-standard dishes. Dislikes: Honestly, I have not found much that I dislike about the place. To be fair, my wife did not enjoy her barbeque baby back ribs one time, but that's all I really have for negative comments. Our server was so nice! The hostess quoted a 15 minute wait, which actually was more like 3 minutes. Pretty cool! The downside = section we sat in was a terrible mess. It was a Friday night so I'm sure they were hustlin' to get people in and out! It's a place for families. Lots of kids around. It's in between a Denny's and Chili's. I heard they serve up a mean Monte Cristo.... Ordered that and a Ceasar salad. Long story short- The salad was quite tasty because of the dressing. I generally hate the way restaurants cut their lettuce so the chopped romaine was as expected. I know what you're thinking.... Why don't I make my own salad at home? Answer = I'm lazy, hence the reason why I went to a restaurant! :P The sandwich was OK. I say this because I was expecting the coating to be something different. I haven't tried other dishes as of late so I can't rate anything else. Service is slow at the bar. We enjoy sitting at the bar to be in front of the TV but they are slow every time I come there. Maybe skip the TV next time just to have fast service! Decor/style is kind of boring. Feels like every other chained restaurant in the state, not original at all. At least it's clean! Got the Cajun pasta and a Caesar salad. I enjoy saucy pastas but it was drowned in sauce,way too much. The dish was to include shrimp chicken and sausage. Was a bit disappointed, only had three small pieces of sausage, and the chicken was really dry so didn't eat the chicken. Giving a 3 because I felt we were being rushed out. I got the meatloaf meal which is my favorite here but today the service was extremely slow and when I finally got my meal the only thing hot was my meatloaf. Ive been here many times and probably had more good than bad experiences. This particular experience was pleasant. Chicken tenders were nice and hot. I dont care much for the flavor of the mashed potatoes. Taste like they mash them with the water they were cooked in. Too bad im not in that kitchen because I think I make the best mashed potatoes in the world. Anyway the side caesar salad was good but they can ease up on the dressing because I dont like my romaine to be drowning but thats what I get for not ordering the dressing on the side like I usually do. Every time I eat here I swear I will not go back. You used to be able to get a half order of onion rings with a burger, not anymore. So, the last time I was there, I ordered a full order; they got to the table quite quickly but were cold and stale. This tells me they are cooked ahead of time and set aside until ordered during the lunch rush. Today, we ate there because there was a line out the door at all the decent restaurants in town. When we went in, there were four waitresses standing at the podium at the front door griping to each other. We were seated right next to the kitchen even though there were many empty seats at 3:00 in the afternoon. There were waiters leaned up against the wall in the bar area on their phones and groups would gather at the kitchen door, right next to our table just acting stupid. We could not have time to look at the menu without being hounded with the waitress wanting us to order. When the food got there, the order was wrong. When we left, there were people waiting to be seated when over half of the restaurant was empty and there we now six girls (waitresses) standing at the podium griping. I made it a point to turn around and count them because I really could not believe what I was seeing. The only good thing I can say about Cheddar's in Norman is that the tea is good.
