We came here many times but today we came here for the AC in such a hot weather. The customer service here was good. Servers took the orders correctly and they were polite. We didn't have to wait for too long to pick up our drinks. We ordered a large lemon ai Yu and one large taro pudding milk tea. Both tasted good. We drank the taro pudding milk tea and could eat some real taro in the drink. We loved it. There is street parking and rear parking at the restaurant. Many customers park at the back and walk to the front or cashier to order drinks. The interior design is average. The restaurant is very very spacious that there is a huge empty space that they can add more tables and chairs. Overall, we had good drink experience here. Personally I really enjoy chatime and the selection and flavours but today left a sour taste in my mouth. I ordered a drink for delivery from them and it was wrapped up in another plastic bag covered. Usually with your machines you would expect that those plastic seals stay sealed but unfortunately for me my drink came completely spilt due to the lid not having a proper seal. So not only did I spend $15 on a drink but now none of it is consumable because all of it spilt into the plastic bag from the lid. I've been here so many times it's embarrassing. My typical weekend would consist of me getting Boiling Point next door and Chatime as dessert. For a while, I couldn't stop myself from getting the Grass Jelly Roasted Milk Tea every time I visited. It's rich and milky and absolutely amazing - definitely one of their signature items. Recently, I've tried to diverge and try other items, such as the taro pudding milk tea, mango smoothie, and brown rice green milk tea. They have seasonal items such as the tiramisu milk tea as well. I've found everything to be of similar good quality, but I always go with 1/2 sugar since the regular would be too sweet. I got Coconut Pineapple slush ($4.75, half sweet) and didn't find it so exciting. I love pineapple, but slush didn't taste like it should be. Little to no coconut flavour has been added. Chat Time rencently launched the Golden Lava Smoothie is a black sesame smoothie made with swirls of salted egg cream and topped with a sea salt cream foam. I was skeptical about this drink since I didn't know what to expect but I was quite pleased with it. The drink taste like black sesame soup dessert with a nice roasted nutty flavour. I found the salted egg yolk to be quite subtle and it wasn't overly empowering the drink. I also really enjoyed the cream foam top which added extra creaminess to the drink. Oct 23, 2020 visited this Royal Oak location and had 7 free large drinks on my Chatime loyalty app. I ask redeem 2 free drinks which I have done numerous times at this location and other locations. "Sorry, only one free drink per transaction". So I ask for separate orders, but they won't do it. "Go to the back of the line (which is now 10+ people long) and we'll see what we can do and maybe you can order again". I ask what's the difference with doing that and just doing two separate transactions. No response. "Sorry, we only allow 1 free drink per visit". I ask to see this policy and then did it start, they can't answer. "Other locations are following an old policy and this a new policy. I can't override since the manager isn't here". This is the last straw. So I get the free drink and leave. Asked for no ice and of course there is ice. Never going to this location again and I tell them that which they could care less. This is how you treat your loyal members who have spent hundreds of dollars in your store. In the past, I've been charged extra for toppings and for large free drinks at this same location. They allow me to redeem a medium and pay extra to upsize to large when the app shows I'm entitled to free large drink with one topping. With the recent changes in the reward system and the sudden boom in other competitive bubbletea joints, I'm sad to say that chatime is no longer worth it. We're looking at $5 for drinks that you could get for much cheaper with more frequent rewards. I was told on my visit today that they no longer have the birthday drinks either. As for taste I would say everything is pretty standard here. There are many other places that offer similar items that are of much better quality and with everybody jumping on the ice and sugar customization, chatime is quickly losing their appeal. I had the Ceylon milk tea with grass jelly today and although I enjoyed the bitter aftertaste I found it underwhelming. The grass jelly wasn't up to snuff today either. This is straight up the WORST bubble tea and customer service I ever had. Let me say first, I am a big fan of chatime at other locations. I've had their taro milk tea previously at other branches and have always been happy with it. This time, I thought to order the same taro milk tea. However, upon first taste both my sister and I wanted to throw up. It was like eating chalk and protein powder, or someone's regurgitated food. I immediately came back to the store and told them there was something wrong. They argued that's just how it should taste like because they use real taro and that the issue was me because I simply did not like it. First of all, never in my life have I encountered bubble tea that's supposed to have the texture of chalk. Second of all, it is wrong to put blame on the customer. The entire time the employees whispered in Chinese to the manager about how difficult I was being in front of me, thinking I wouldn't understand. Unbelievable. I asked if they could replace my drink with a different flavor if their taro flavor truly tastes that. They refused but after I insisted they must do something they replaced my taro drinks with the SAME taro drink. What the heck is the point of that? It tasted exactly the same. Came to cha time during lunch on a Sunday. There were lots of empty seats, but still a line up for ppl taking it to go. I got the hazelnut Chocolate with pearls. Such a good flavor. The i like it because the chocolate flavor isn't too strong. Cha time also offers the option to reduce the amount of ice and sugar. I decided to finally try Cha Time because of the hype from friends and social media. I honestly don't understand what the hype is ... It's just like any orher ordinary decent bubble tea place such as bubble world or Estea. The only somewhat cool thing is you can customize the level of sweetness and level of how much ice you want. Usually I do this with other bubble tea places anyway but it's nice to know it's definitely an option here. I didn't wait that long to receive my drink (3-5 mins) then again I went on a Monday night at 10 pm. First of all. Can someone please tell me why the grass jelly is so god damn inconsistent at Chatime? At first, I thought it was because I got the end of the jelly batch and it just becomes like a runny mush and holds no shape or form. And then I thought, maybe it's just dependent on the location. But I've visited the new one at PNE and I've had some shitty grass jelly there too. I used to love the roasted grass jelly milk tea, and I mean whenever I would pass by, I would buy one. But now, after having too many inconsistent grass jelly milk teas, I'm going to have to pass on Chatime altogether. There are just far too many good bubble tea shops in Vancouver to be spending my $5.20 on a mediocre milk tea. This is actually a 3.5 star review, but rounded down due to wifi. I wanted to get some studying done in a different environment, but unfortunately my studying was hindered by the lack of wifi. They only have Telus free wifi, which although it has a strong signal, you need to sign up for it (for free). This isn't a problem for me, but after signing up, Telus says they'll send you a confirmation email. You need to activate your account before accessing the Internet. Telus did send the email...2 hours later. I was long gone from the store by then. When I was still at the store, I asked an employee about this, and they couldn't do anything about it. I think it would be better if Chatime had their own wifi network, so if something happens, the employees can perhaps do something to fix it. For this visit, I got the brown rice green tea with pearls. Surprisingly very good! I wasn't a fan of Chatime drinks in the past, but I will be returning for this. The drink was very fragrant from the rice, and the pearls were nicely soaked in sugar water beforehand so they weren't bland. 50% sugar was still too sweet though, so maybe 30% sugar would be better. read more

Wow. The best Chatime I've been to. Service was super fast despite the long line. The rest is pretty much the same as the other Chatime's I've been to. Maybe less bright. They also have something called schneeballen. The pictures on the wall didn't intrigue us enough to try but after reading upon it on wiki, I might give it a try next time I'm at this location or if other locations decide to offer it. This time I tried their strawberry au lait with pudding ($5.10+0.50 5/5): Amazing flavours! First sip tasted artificial but I guess I got used to it. The texture is really interesting. It's a slush but tastes similar to what I remember experimenting when I was a kid (jello + milk). The gelatin kind of separates the milk particles and the juice so you get this slush plus slight jelloy texture and the pudding throws in another element to it. Last time I went, the guy working the register was a straight up an ass. We ordered two roasted-milk tea and wanted to add jelly grass to one of them and he straight up shook his head and commented "So complicated." The drinks weren't bad at this location, but I do have to agree with another reviewer that if you ask for less sugar, it tastes extremely watered down. But to get to the topic of service... My friend ordered his drink, and took it to one of the tables. Since we had a group of 6 people, he wanted to move the tables closer together. Unfortunately, as he was moving the table his drink fell on the floor and spilled. When he went to apologize, one of the staff said that he would have to buy himself a new drink if he wanted one. The staff member explained that once the drink leaves the counter, it's not their problem if it is spilled. They argued for several minutes, and it wasn't until my friend approached the manager that they agreed to make him a new drink, but only a small size...and it was extremely watered down... Even though it's not their obligation to give free drinks left and right, I think that any business would want their customers leaving happy so that they come back for another visit. Not the best cha time location - Robson or Richmond locations (that I've tried) are better. I'm basing this off the roasted milk tea with grass jelly. It was so bland- tea was watered down. Even the grass jelly was more watery than normal and it didn't taste like anything at all, just soft jello texture. Their roasted tea didn't taste anything like what I've had at their other locations. I hope it's not always like this, otherwise it's obvious they are cutting corners and watering things down. Definitely a bigger space, and while they do have tables and chairs, it was poor use of space. Maybe with such a big line, they had to move tables out of the way (unfortunate!). But when the line died down, there's quite a bit of floor space. I also saw lots of people without drinks coming in to sit down, and they definitely didn't have anyone waiting in line to get them drinks either. Ah, horrible drinks. I went in during a busy weeknight, the bubble was so chewy (as in hard type of chewing), so I said to myself that I might have bad luck that day that bubble wasn't cooked well. So 2nd time I went, I ordered fresh milk grass jelly tea with bubble. I asked for no ice. And usually the drink should be still be cold even though there is no ice. It was lukewarm, argh, disgusting. The grass jelly has no flavour, and the bubble again, super tough and chewy. The milk tea taste more like milk than tea. I am usually a big fan of Chatime, now it is literally worst than Pearl restaurant. Seriously? I am not coming back here anymore.
