The coconut pineapple on top was huge and when it started melting into the chocolate, it made the drink pineapple/coconut infused hot chocolate. so good. the cute krabby patty on the side was a cupcake split in half with chocolate frosting in between. such a creative and well executed drink! read more

Love their Viet coffee pies here! We always get it for a special occasion and it never disappoints. It is on the pricey side but a great treat and beautifully made. Lemon meringue was a bit too sweet for me but tasty. Around $9 for a small which is maybe two persons worth if you're just having a small slice each and $35 for a large. I had stumbled into this place by chance because I had just dropped off my friend and her pet's remains at the animal hospital in the same building for cremation. My friend was just in tears, sobbing and angry and I thought to myself, hey maybe a pie would help. Well, it didn't really, but that was to be expected if you had to drop off your dearly departed pet baby to be cremated but at the least after she looked at the pies in the fridge she stopped crying for a minute to ooo and awe and picked a pie. I myself picked the Elvis which was really good! I think it was banana, peanut and chocolate? Whatever it was, the King would have approved! These pies were quite pricey, but the quality made up for it. If I were to go back, I would probably buy a pie by the slice because it is cheaper than buying an individual pie and seems like it is only slightly smaller for about half the price. This place is somewhat hidden as it is at the back of the parking lot in the basement. But at least there is free parking. read more

Still my favorite pie place. Just tried the key lime pie and it was to die for! It was tart but not overly so, with just a tinge of sweetness. Super delicious. For the savory pie, my go to is still the bacon cheeseburger. Just so yummy. Somehow I prefer the hand pie version more than the usual pie. Maybe it takes a shorter time to heat up in the oven so that my tummy can be filled faster? Check the website for the pies available. Ask the staff if you do not see the pie you wanted in the store. If it's a pie, they probably offer it. This past weekend, my wife and daughter wanted pie. So where do you go for pie in the Burnaby-New West area? There's only one answer to that. The Pie Hole. After hmming and hawing over what to get from their vast selection of frozen as well as freshly baked savoury and sweet pies, the family chose a Banana Cream Pie. It looked absolutely delicious. Taking the pie to a new level, they sprinkle banana bread over top which not only looks pleasant but also adds another texture and flavour to the pie. When dessert time came, we busted that box open. My daughter cut the first slice out, albeit crooked and mildly infuriating (LOL), and I could see the luscious filling with lil banana slices in it. I haven't had a banana cream pie in ages and almost forgot what it tasted like. Once I got my piece and broke away a piece of the super flakey crust, I remembered why I don't get banana cream pie. It's really sweet. This is not The Pie Holes fault. The quality of the pie is excellent and it tastes very nice. It might have been the best banana cream pie I've ever had. It's just banana cream pie is sweet and I lost my sweet tooth decades ago. It's been a while since I tried their savoury pies, but I know I enjoyed them. If you're like me, stick to the savoury ones. I don't know this is my second chance for this store and it just doesn't hit like I expect a local pie shop to, Had a spinach and feta had pie which was really good but steep at about $8.50. Ordered a pecan pie for my husbands bd it's his absolute favourite. What a disappointment $37 for a whole pie which was mostly sticky gloopy goo that tasted like butterscotch. Not at all like pecan pie. It did have a thin layer of pecans on top. I was actually shocked when I cut into it. Not what I expected especially for the price. I received comments that it was way too sweet, didn't taste like pecan pie , and the biggest commentary was a week later half the pie was still in the fridge as no one ever had a second piece even though I mentioned it ww's there all week. read more

Their Vegan chocolate hazelnut pie: the filling is amazing the crust not so much. I can't remember the last time I didn't enjoy a dessert crust. Just too lumpy and bumpy bad texture and didn't add anything to compliment the filling. If it was just on filling it would be a five star. I attended The Pie Hole today for their hot chocolate festival. I tried both the; milk chocolate banana flavoured, and white chocolate apple pie featured options. Each one was paired with a small pie. The banana chocolate pie was delicious, as was the apple pie. Both were made with care and quality ingredients. The beverages were equally as tasty, and the vendor perfected the flavours. Their staff was helpful, friendly, attentive, and excited for the festival. Ambiance was comfortable and casual given the location. I also purchased their Thai chicken savoury pie to go. Their baked goods selection was hard to resist. I was too late to pre-order online so had to make sure I got there at opening yesterday to snatch a pie. Got there about 10 mins prior to opening and there was already a lineup! I was lucky to snatch this amazing Apple Brown Butter Rosemary pie. It was a hit with the family as there were no slices leftover. I was planning on taking a picture of my slice with ice cream but completely forgot cause I was too excited to eat it and I devoured it without thinking. Added bonus: Got 10% off because I was already following @thepiehole on IG! I also decided to grab a Chicken Pot Pie for lunch. My first time trying one of their savoury pies. The pie was... okay. I got a small banana cream pie (fresh not frozen). We ate it immediately after taking it home, but the crust was hard as a rock and tasted stale or something. The mushy filling combined with the overly crispy crust was not a very good combo! Strong banana flavour too, but that would be a positive if you like that flavour. I think one of my New Year's Resolutions for 2019 is to explore more establishments close to home instead of venturing out to Vancouver because Burnaby and New West definitely have a lot of gems waiting to be discovered. The Pie Hole Burnaby is definitely one to go to and try (and just a 10 minute drive from home!) in the area. It is located on Sixth Street but definitely turn to 11th Ave for parking and their store entrance. Once you enter, you see a wall of frozen pies and ice cream ready to be brought home and on the left you'll see their display of freshly made pies that look oh so enticing. I'm a huge fan of Key Lime Pie so I opted for the 5" and their chicken carbonara hand pie to go. Hubby and I ate the Key Lime Pie as soon as I arrived home. It was SO GOOD! I could eat a 5" pie on my own but alas, we had to share. The filling was just so silky smooth and had a great key lime flavour that is tangy and sweet. The crust was a bit too crumbly for our liking. But I still think this is the best Key Lime Pie I've ever had because that filling is just THAT WONDERFUL! The gentleman who helped me at the counter wrote down reheating instructions on the box of my hand pie and it was very helpful. I ate the Chicken Carbonara hand pie the next day and it reminded me of a Filipino food I used to love back home. The filling was tasty and went really well with the flaky pastry. Now I'm thinking of when I'll go back there to buy a 9" Key Lime Pie to bring home (but I'm delaying it because it'll be hard to control myself from over indulging once I have it in my fridge). I also wanna try more of their savoury hand pies next time. Highly recommended! read more

You'll have to shut your pie hole after having these pies! They will leave you speechless! I recently checked out the Vancouver and Burnaby storefronts and in both occasions, I was welcomed with the glorious whiff of the baked crust goodness. The smell was so intoxicating, I could hardly wait to try them out! Their offerings include hand pies, savoury pies, pies by the slice, and whole pies (fresh and frozen) that you can take home to enjoy with family and friends (or if you want it all to yourself, that works too!). They have traditional pies like good ol' apple and blueberry pies, to super creative ones like a bacon cheeseburger pie (say whaat?) And even vietnamese coffee pie! My partner and I tried out the potato and leek hand pie, and a slice of their blueberry basil and goatcheese pie. A helpful tip: WARM THESE BAD BOYS UP! It makes such a difference and brings back those crisp, flaky textures that great pies have. I have to commend them on their crust: it's just soo good that writing it in words does not do it justice. First time trying the company. atmosphere is lovely. welcoming and spacious. Friendly staffs. Went in the morning so quite a bit of sweet and savoury variety. Ordered savoury pies today. Thai chicken, chicken pot pie, and Shepard. Definitely went in with that classic flavour and twist of Asian. It's a nice pastry but I will say it's just too much pastry! Best thing was that buttery taste to it. It's unforgettable. The pies were only mediocre to me. For $23 for the the 3 of those I'd imagine some major wow factor. I love how they had many flavours. These guys mean business showcasing their craft. But definitely no wow factor on the taste. If you'd ask me what needs to be tweaked is; Need more fillings. Less pastry. And more exotic flavours. I love the self serve water and cafe like aura. The take out box is beautiful. I'm giving it a 3 because I expected the pie to be beyond the world but it's just something I've had before feeling. Nonetheless, it's still definitely good to check out and experience. Especially if you're a tourist. read more

What sobering time it is be alive in a 2020 viral pandemic. While keeping a part in social distancing and self-isolating, a foodie will always be a foodie and best kept happy when she has options...such as keeping frozen pies in her fridge! This review is a tad overdue as The Pie Hole has temporarily closed on March 25, 2020, but I managed to pick up two cheeseburger pies prior to that date and they will be cherished. The Pie Hole, Burnaby location, is a large warehouse with a store front where you can choose between frozen or fresh pies to be consumed. My favourite to date is their savoury Bacon Cheeseburger (as see on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) and Macaroni and Cheese. While my least favorite, would the mini assorted sweets, but I would like to retry different sweet flavours in the full size before making another assessment. The pie crust is so flaky and buttery out of the oven, you wouldn't believe that you "baked" it yourself ! For the large size, the fillings are also quite generous and more than enough for 2 or 3 people. Prices are on the higher side, but for gourmet pie, it's worth the splurge. Overall, highly recommend it and I will wait patiently for the world to be healthy again, so we can all eat pie. read more

If you've read my blog long enough, you know that I've often gushed about the pies from The Pie Hole. When they finally opened a store front on Fraser St in Vancouver last year, I thought my dreams had finally come true. Well, earlier this year, they opened up a brand new location in Burnaby only a few minutes from my work place. The entrance to their 6th Street location is actually in their parking lot behind the building and you have to walk down a couple of stairs since they're a few feet below the street grade. I mention this because, unlike their Fraser St location in Vancouver, the City of Burnaby wouldn't let them put in seating. It's a bit of a shame because there's plenty of room in the middle of the shop which could support a few small tables. I visited soon after their opening to check them out. They have both fresh and frozen pies available (there's a huge bank of freezers where you can find just about any pie you could ever want). Since there's no seating, I wound up picking up a Butter Pecan Tart to go ($3.50) which is spiked with a bit of Irish cream in the ooey-gooey filling. I also picked up a Tourtière ($7.50) hand pie which they heated up for me before I left. It's so very flaky but a bit difficult to hold (which is ironic since it's a hand pie). The light and buttery pastry encases a savory mixture of ground pork, beef, and spices. I came back at the end of January to place a special order and wound up grabbing a small Eat Your Feelings Pie ($12) to go. They use the same double butter crust that they use on their other pies and layer in rich and fudgey brownie with chocolate oatmeal cookie dough and then top it off with a dark chocolate and Callebaut white chocolate ganache. 'Nuff said. Okay, here's the special order that I was talking about before. It was a special Valentine's 9-pack of mini pies ($28). There were two Red Velvet mini pies with a creamy chocolate filling topped with whipped cream cheese, two Eat Your Feeling mini pies, two Black Forest Cream mini pies with a dark chocolate filling in a chocolate crumb crust and topped with cherries and a Kirsch liqueur reduction with whipped cream and chocolate ganache drizzle, two Apple Sweetie mini pies, and a Triple Chocolate Cream mini pie with a dark chocolate base that has a light chocolate filling topped with whipped Callebaut white chocolate ganache and dark chocolate curls. We ordered 2 pies for our holiday party: Eggnog & Rum and Christmas Mince pie. Both were pretty good but the Eggnog & Rum was the WINNER! Such a perfect combination: Eggnog and Rum, 2 of my favourite things during the holiday season! The flavour of the eggnog really came through; the sweetness was just perfect. The pies are very overpriced. I found the crust to be VERY dry, no flavour, stale. Some of the pies (especially the sweet pies) have barely any filling. We will never return. We tried 5 different pies in total and we didn't like any of them. If they had reasonable prices I wouldn't feel compelled to write this but really feels like a rip off for the low quality you get. Maybe they used to be good... they have so many good reviews I was shocked trying them. read more

Ya know, my second favorite meal of the day is PIE (brunch being the first!) One of my fantasies is to stumble upon the best road-side pie store in one of my many road trips. Well this isn't that but it might as well be. So I was glad to discover this strangely located pie place in South Burnaby. According to our GPS, we've arrived at our location but I could neither see nor smell my prey. Had to walk around to the back of the building to find The Pie Hole. (I have to give props to that irreverent name!) We walked in then down a flight of stairs to a strange retail store where most of the floor space is bare but they have freezers full of pies on one wall and fresh savoury and dessert pies in display cases on another side. I was so excited and happy that I began asking the sweet guy behind the counter to name me all the pies in the display case. He was friendly and knowledgeable, and was very tolerant of my multiple pie inquiries and signage suggestions. According to my pie guy this location was opened so they can have a bigger kitchen to make more pies (nothing wrong with that at all) for this location and their original location in Vancouver. The lack of eating tables is due to city bylaws. We eventually walked out with a frozen Thai chicken pie, slice of coconut cream pie, small fresh apple pie, small fresh peach pie and a butter tart. We had the chicken pie for dinner that night (instructions on the box) and although the pie was delicious (the filling was full of chicken, slightly spicy and creamy), it should be allowed to sit for at least 30 minutes after the 90 minute bake to ensure the juices are not running all over place. I also had the butter tart which had an amazing buttery crust and a not so sweet filling with just enough raisins and walnuts for sweetness and texture. Which reminds me, it might be time to dig in to my other pies. Definitely coming back. read more

We discovered this place today, and it was like entering a whole new level of Flavourtown. I've eaten a lot of pies, but their savoury spinch and feta and steak and stout hand pies are about as good as pie could possibly get. Thank you! In the end, we went for the sour cherry crumble ($28), which was delicious. Packed with whole cherries in a glorious not-too-sweet filling. The top crumb was buttery and pillowy with a flaky bottom crust to deliver the entire beautiful forkful into my pie hole. BEST PIES I'VE EVER HAD!! We got a slice of pumpkin pie and a slice of apple caramel pie. The total came to around $15. They were pretty generous slices (from 10" pies) so it was pretty worth the price. Only thing I would suggest is to please add some seating in your shop! There isn't any seating at this location so it's more of a grab-and-go takeout style. Will be coming back to try more flavours! read more
