I've been here for a multiple times already. As many of you know, Ki Cafe is a nice cozy cafe to hangout with friends. They sell cakes, pastries, bubble teas and parfaits. They have tons of comic books as well. I somehow thought the ownership changed since they open for 3 days only from Friday to Sunday. Owners here are super friendly. I shared some funny conversation with the owner it brightened my day. If you have any recommendations for events, owner will be all ears about your suggestions. I loved their Borahae bubble tea ($8.50) and ube mango parfait ($14.50). I've gone to some of their events previously where people have their own cliques. They make some mean BT21 macarons too, according to a friend. I wish they opened on weekdays as they used to be. Ki Cafe is fantastic cafe to go to.

I tried my friend's curry and it's so delicious. The curry is quite strong for japanese curry. I like the deep fried onion or garlic(?) on top. It's a really good addition. The vibe of the cafe is nice but it's smaller than expected. There is a guy playing the piano when I arrived and it feels very welcoming here. The only downside is not being able to study here and there is a limit of 60 minutes to stay. This is, however, a good place to hang out with friends or have some alone time and read the manga available.

When searching for the BEST hangout café in Burnaby, Ki Cafe (Ki Tea House) is easily one of the top local favourites! This small, cozy spot is perfect for anyone who loves anime and manga. From the epic manga collection to the shelves filled with anime figures, we feel at home geeking out while sipping their colourful, delicious drinks. What we tried: * CURRY OMURICE カレーオムライス 咖哩蛋包飯 $14.25 * ELEGANT STRAWBERRY WAFFLE WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM $15.50 * ICY BINGSOO - BROWN SUGAR MILK SLUSH WITH PEARLS $7.25 * GALAXY - BLUEBERRY LYCHEE SODA SLUSH WITH MANGO JELLY $7.00 * MATCHA PARFAIT 抹茶パフェ $9.25 * CHEESE TARTS $8.25 FOR 3 (UBE, MATCHA, ORIGINAL) We come here regularly to treat ourselves to some tasty desserts and soak in the vibes. Whether catching up with friends or just chilling solo, it's the place to be. Perfect for anime fans or anyone looking for a fun, laid-back spot. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: Eatery Kids: Yay! Price: $30-$40 per person Presentation: 3/5 Parking: There are lots of street parking in the residential area. Tips: have an hour-staying limit. have a restricted rule about using laptops and studying. can be easy to access - only a 2-minute walk from the Royal Oak Skytrain Station. Would I Return: Yes - the royal customer!

This cafe is great for customers who love manga and anime. There are several anime figures and tons of manga comic books on the shelves. Customers can read them while they stay in the cafe. This time, I visited the cafe for the Nomsmag Ice Cream Festival and ordered the festival special ice cream item. Matsuri Parfeit A festival-inspired delight with light sponge, whipped cream, cornflakes, green apple syrup, lychee jelly, strawberries, taiyaki fish, and pineapple bits. It had very pretty appearance that caught my eye on IG. The soft serve was delicious, though the flavor was a bit weak. I really enjoyed lychee jelly and cornflakes which matched well with soft serve. The green apple syrup was too sweet for my liking, and both sponge and taiyaki needed more refinement. My partner ordered Mango haroharo but I didn't try it. Overall I really enjoyed this impactful item and its presentation was definitely one of the best at this year's ice cream fes!

Sesame oolong milk tea with pearls and okonomiyaki waffle

Ki Cafe is a popular cafe located just minutes from the Royal Oak SkyTrain station. Today was my first time going there, but I've heard all good things from friends and on social media over the years. For the most part, the cafe lived up to its hype. Aesthetically, the space was very cozy and kawaii (a way to describe cute things in Japanese culture). The menu has a lot of sweet and savoury options, along with bubble tea. I was able to order right away and snag one of the last few remaining tables. My cousin was with me too -- we each received buzzers and got our food and drinks at the same time, which was nice. I got the okonomiyaki waffle and a sesame oolong milk tea. My cousin had a matcha waffle and some sort of bingsoo/slush drink. I'll just be commenting on my order, since we didn't end up splitting everything. The waffle was perfect. It was light and fluffy, topped with all the umami goodness you expect from okonomiyaki (e.g. bonito flakes, green onions, Kewpie mayo and special sauce). There was also a poached egg to make the dish even more satisfying. The milk tea, on the other hand, was just okay. I ordered it quarter-sweet and with pearls, though neither of those things were an issue. Sweetness level was just where I liked it (not overwhelming the tea flavour, but helping smooth out the sometimes grassy taste of oolong) and the pearls were fresh (you can tell by the chew). It was the sesame that knocked everything out of balance. I could tell it was some sort of paste they tried to incorporate into the drink, but it didn't blend very well, so every sip was granular and left bits of black sesame stuck in my teeth. Definitely not enjoyable. I took it home and strained out the sesame. I would go back for the food. As for the drinks...maybe just stick to regular tea or coffee.

Cute little cafe with a fun vibe. Loved the mango crunch parfait because you could taste so many different textures! It was a pleasure to eat till the very last bite!

They're having their mango fest so I ordered the Japanese style mango parfait. $11.50, but totally worth it. The soft serve mango ice cream was more mango tasting than the usual frozen hard one. Then used cream puff to scoop the ice cream, then working into the boba chews, then mango chunks, then corn flakes digging into fresh cream into the mango pudding on bottom was such a fun and yummy dessert treat. The place is small and quaint with Japanese flair. Definitely returning!

Ki Cafe is truly one of a kind japanese cafe in the south Burnaby area. The drinks and food are good, I really like their tea cappuccinos with the cream cheese foam. For food, they make great fried chicken if your in the mood for a quick snack and a variety of cute (and not too sweet) cakes. I really like the anime/manga atmosphere and they have a huge collection of manga and anime character figurines. Perfect place for a Sunday hangout!

This was my second time going to Ki Cafe and I got the lemon cheesecake. I wasn't the biggest fan because the cake felt like a slice of thick jello and was quite sweet. The cafe itself was very pretty and my friend and I got nice photos but I think the other items on the menu (such as the omurice) are better!

This place was pretty busy for a Friday afternoon. Tables were all full and there was a small line when we came in. Service was still quick and efficient. Street parking is available in front of the establishment. We ordered matcha and cheese egg tarts, as well as a strawberry soft serve, coco mango boba, and strawberry cheesecake frappe. The egg tarts were nice and soft. The cheese tart reminds me of the texture and taste of Japanese soufflé cheesecakes. The strawberry soft serve was delicious, sweet and creamy. The drinks were also good! For the manga selection, they do carry some rare titles that would be interesting reads. The rest of the interior was very cute, and fulfills the aesthetic points.

I see they have renovated since the pandemic. The space is richer and more vibrant now than before. The interior has levelled up, while maintaining the bookshelf on the side and the piano by the entrance. I came by for SHINEE Day and they offered more menu items than usual. I ordered their Odorable Cheese (Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Tart) and the Diamond Sky (Lychee Melon Yogurt Refresher w/ Crystal Ball). The tart was creamy and cheesy - the lady at the till offered to have it warmed up, and that made such a difference! I would come back for it if they put it in their regular menu.!The drink was refreshing on a warm sunny day. I enjoyed the chewy 'crystal ball' although I wish the size of the cup was bigger. I asked for my order for to-go and I appreciate their to-go packaging. It was in a nice Ki Cafe branded bag with proper handle. I hope this cafe continues to support events like this! I would love to come back for more.

KI'ing up for some sweets... Decided to check this place out to see if it can satisfy my sweet tooth after a so so lunch. It is a compact little place with half a dozen of tables and chairs, extra seatings along the window, counter and kitchen to the back. And with signs posted at every table saying it's a notebook or laptop free zone... lmao!! (Yeah no pretendous studying or working here, there's Tinder for that). Here were the sweets I ordered; 1. Melona. Nice little melon slush, not overly sweet so that's refreshing for a hot day. 2. Sakura yogurt mousse. Tasty little drink for the Sakura lovers. 3. Sakura parfait. Nice little parfait, ingredients blended together nicely but I found the matcha ice cream could be a bit smoother, perhaps a finer matcha powder? 4. Macarons 3pc pack (raspberry, pistachio, passion fruit). Pretty basic but decently okay. I can see that this place gets busy during the warmer weather seasons especially when it's located close to the Royal Oak skytrain station and by all the new condos. Service wise, it was okay and pretty basic. And of course a little improvement in this department wouldn't hurt cause it might bring back a few extra repeats during the winter season. The food was overall pretty decent. It had a little bit of everything from drinks to desserts and to some waffle combos. Almost reminded me a smaller version of La Foret up the streets?

RAMUNE ICE CREAM The @nomsmag Ice Cream Festival adventure continues with my second stop being @ki.teacafe This adorable anime manga cafe in Burnaby has been the go to hangout spot in the neighbourhood for years. I remember always visiting when I went to school in the area, it's so cool to see how their manga collection has grown. To celebrate the arrival of summer, they've released a new menu filled with ramune inspired treats. They also still have their seasonal mango soft serve available, so I opted for a twisted sundae with the mango and ramune flavours. The ramune soda flavour and mango worked so well together, every bit was super refreshing and not too sweet. We were also able to try some of their other ramune themed desserts and drinks which were all super cute and fun. Here is the list of items we tried: Matsuri Parfait Ramune Bingsoo Midori Panna Cotta Yuzu Beach Cake Melon Blossom Mocktail Yuzu Orange Ade These items will only be available until the end of July, so hurry to @ki.teacafe and give them a try! Was pretty lively and busy on a random weeknight, but maybe because holiday period where students are out of school, but we snagged an open table before the place got full. Order at the counter and they'll call your number to get the food. Waited for 5 mins for our order. We got the red bean bingsoo. Pretty substantial serving of shaved ice with red bean, shaved almond, raisin, and other toppings. I like that the toppings weren't super sweet, but they also give a small cup of condensed milk to up the sweetness. Portion is definitely for sharing unless you want to eat dessert for a meal.

The shaved milk ice itself wasn't very saturated or creamy, and there was a lot of cocoa powder, which made it taste kind of dry overall. I didn't leave feeling super satisfied. That said, the service was great! Also, there's plenty of seating, so it's a nice place to hang out and chat without feeling rushed.

They have a 5-piece combo deal where it comrs out to just a little over $3 per taiyaki. The supermarket right below sells 3 taiyakis (that are very good) for about $5 though, so Little Pisces is a bit expensive comparatively. The ice cream come with a taiyaki on top and is super cute. There's usually quite a long line to order and to get the food. Sometimes the line is out the door. Even after ordering, they give you a little buzzer thing that buzzes when your order is ready. This can take quite a long time if there's alot of people. While there is seating, it is limited and people tend to stay awhile, so don't depend on being able to eat inside. In the winter it kind of sucks as you have to exit to eat. I also came here for their hot chocolate festival drinks. The lines were insanely long. The hot chocolate was $12 each and not very big. While the flavors were unique, they weren't very good overall and took forever to wait for.
