Super fun cafe! There are multiple bookshelves of manage in Japanese and English. If you like to eat and read manga at the same time, then definitely recommend this cafe. I got their karage waffle and omurice. Their karage and waffle was delicious with crispy and juicy chicken pieces. Their waffles were freshly made and not overwhelmingly sweet; a good twist to the chicken and waffle. The omurice was okay, the chicken was dry and the rice was plain. I love how multi-purpose Ki Cafe is - at day, it's a cute spot to get bubble tea and lunch, and at night it's open late for hanging out, getting a drink before going home, and late night karaage. I really wish there was a Ki Cafe close to where I live! My friends and I came in the afternoon and had no trouble finding a spot. I ordered a Blue Rose with Lychee Jelly - unfortunately, the menu didn't mention that the jelly is actually coconut. The staff working let me switch my drink out to a Velvet-T with crystall pearls, which I enjoyed a lot more. As for food, I ordered the Demiglace Omurice since I was intrigued by the demiglace sauce. I didn't realize the fried rice had chicken on the inside, but noting that for any vegetarians who wouldn't realize. The Omurice was really yummy, but I tried my friend's Curry Omurice and the curry sauce is definitely better in my opinion. I also tried some of their karaage in honey garlic butter sauce, which is HEAVENLY. If I were to come again, I'd definitely get that. Anyways, the decor of Ki Cafe is amazing, with shelves of manga and manga/anime figurines. Love the Ghibli vibes! LOVE!!!!! I wish we have a place like this in the US. This place reminded me of those manga cafes in Taiwan I used to frequent when I was a kid. They have an entire wall of manga (available in different languages) and cool figures to look at. Heck they even have a piano and Animenz piano sheets to play! If you're into Japanese anime and manga culture you will definitely find this place a heaven. Even if you aren't, lemme tell you the food and drinks are fantastic too! I recommend the fried chicken omurice. The chicken is so crispy and juicy, packed with flavor, it reminded me of those konbini fried chicken in Japan (they're the best). I can't recommend this place enough and I miss going back all the time. when i was a student i used to come here to study but I hadn't been in an few years until this past weekend. i was surprised and excited to see the renovations - i absolutely loved the new interior decorations and new menu items they have! i love the wall of anime figures and the manga wall. the big tree and hanging plants from the ceiling also give a very whimsical feel to the place. i got the matcha parfait and it was really good! the matcha flavor of the ice cream was really strong, and all the textures and flavors of the parfait layers went really well together. the staff is also very friendly. i would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a unique, cute cafe to hang out with your friends. just note they don't allow laptops anymore so it wouldn't be a good place to study. read more

This is quite a cute cafe that puts all the effort in its esthetics. The cafe is decorated with greenery and also has a cute section with a bookshelf and anime figurines lined up. I visited the cafe on a weekend and the place was very busy for a cafe - all the tables were seated with people dining in. So I decided to go for some desserts to take home as it felt a little too stuffy and steamy in the cafe - they even had a squeegee ready for customers to wipe off the condensation from the bakery counter so that we can see the goods behind. I ended up ordering the Japanese Pudding, Lemon Cheesecake and German Honey Cake. The pudding and lemon cheesecake was my favorite. I don't normally eat a lot of cheeses cake but this one I throughly enjoyed with the layer of jelly and the balance of the tartness of the lemon just lightens the cake! read more

Great place for drinks and desserts in the South Burnaby area. They have a few chairs and tables outside but they are mostly a to go shop. This is our third time here and we have never been disappointed. I'm a big fan of their Japanese pudding even though we didn't get one this time around. A year later, I was back with a few friends for a cool drink and 'snacks' on a hot summer day. My favourite place for bubble tea. I had their cold brew matcha tea (the perfect amount of matcha) while the others tried the honey Assam tea & Korean style sweet iced Americano. They sweeten their teas with honey. None of that fake syrupy stuff. If you're not a fan of bubble tea, they offer a range of cool drinks from the Taiwan milk tea to teacchino (cheese foam). We had a snack attack in the mid afternoon so we all shared the chicken karaage in honey garlic butter sauce (a nice buttery garlic flavour without the chicken being too dry) and the Okonomiyaki Waffle (a savoury waffle with Okonomiyaki sauce, mayo, bonito flakes, green onions, seaweed, and ginger). Both dishes were delish. The snacks offered were waffles, Omurice (Japanese omelette) and chicken karaage. Make sure you leave room for desserts.! Came with a friend on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was jam packed (we got the last 2 seats at the window). I was looking for a warm non-caffeinated drink, which the menu didn't really cater to, so I ended up getting a rouge provence tea -- not exactly what I was hoping for at an Asian cafe. Plus they charge a $.25 fee for credit AND debit transactions under $5, the debit part of which is totally unreasonable. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is for the vast array of manga -- even though not many customers made use of it, it's impressive and I'm sure brings nostalgia for many. The matcha cheesecake my friend and I shared was was, but I'm a fan of neither matcha nor cheesecake, don't take my word for it. This small cafe packs a punch. Tucked away next to the Royal Oak station, it's a convenient little place to stop by for all of your dessert needs. My husband and I bought two soft serves (mango and matcha), a green tea roll with hochija whipped cream, a green tea mochi cookie, a half dozen of mini cheese tarts, and a watermelon bubble tea. Oh my. The watermelon bbt is perfectly juicy and not watered down or overly sweet. The pearls were fresh and tender - reminiscent of Dragon Ball bbt. The stars of the show have to be the cheese tarts and mango soft serve. Picture a Japanese cheese cake had a baby with a chinese egg tart. It was soft, warm, creamy, and delicious. My mother in law was so happy eating it. The mango soft serve, in its signature jar (pictured here) is the best mango soft serve slash ice cream in the city. Don't believe me? You need to check it out for yourself. My husband loves the green tea roll with hochija cream ($6). We are it the next day and the cream hadn't hardened and the cake itself was still soft and tender. Their soft serve ice-cream was not authentic. Both flavours (matcha and mango) were thick, not sweet, powdery, and icy. They looked much more green and yellow than the picture on the menu because they used powder and ice more than milk. They were not milky at all and you could not really taste the flavours. If they were genuine soft serve ice-cream, the colour should not be that dark if they used the appropriate milk volume, and they should be sweet and soft. They should call it frozen dessert because that is misleading. read more

I've been here 4-5 times, and every single time I'm blown away by this cafe's atmosphere, food, drink, and dessert! Their coco mango and halo halo are so tasty and don't taste synthetic or processed like some other mango flavored desserts. First Time ever coming to this café, and for sure it wont be the last, hidden right in plain sight is this gem. They have the craziest interior design with an amazing menu with amazing food, desserts and drinks. * Oyako rice ($17.50) ~ This was mind blowing the amount of flavours that exploded in my pallet was surreal. The rice was heavily infused with garlic which was super amazing the greenonions were super good with the japanese mayo and ketchup and that super soft omurice. The chicken on the side was well seasoned and paired deliciously with the rice. * Elegant Strawberry Waffle ($12.50) ~ this was stunning, strawberry waffle, topped with fresh strawberries, nice generous portion of whipped cream and icecream on top. The pocky added a nice crunch, and it was delicious with the strawberry drizzle. * Coco mango w. Pearls ($6.50)~ unique, not too sweet. The pearls were chewy, and the coco mango was a good combination together. Ki Cafe is a little gem in Burnaby near Kingsway and Royal Oak. They are super affordable compared to other places. Their drinks come in unique flavours and they also sell food and dessert, we will definitely try those next time! We got the Matcha Salt and the Melona Ice. The matcha salt is essentially matcha milk tea, topped with cheese foam. It wasn't too sweet and it had a nice tea flavour to it. Just wished that it was creamier instead of a slushy/icy texture. The cheese foam with the matcha milk tea complimented each other very well. The melona ice tasted just like the honeydew melona bars! It wasn't too sweet and it had a creamy texture. We also added mango stars to the melona ice, the texture of the mango stars added a nice chew to the drink, it tasted like coconut jelly but it has a firmer texture, it was good! I ordered two drinks: Taiwan Mango $6 Peach Oolong tea $5 I was disappointed as the drinks did not look anything like the pictures posted on the menu. The Taiwan Mango tasted very artificial, like mango syrup, and was overly sweet and watery. Not worth the price. The Peach oolong, even though I requested 25% sugar, was still quite sweet and not sure if they messed up my order. It was meh- standard peach syrup and watery tea. They also have a sign that says no laptops are allowed inside. Not sure why they would enforce that rule as it would be a great quiet and cosy place to study. This place was good before, the one star review means it has gone downhill since I first walked in when the place first opened. At first, the cafe was open to people who came into the place to have a coffee and dessert, as well as having it available to everyone from students coming into study to geeks and gamers alike. However the owner has changed the concept and has become a bit of a pill, berating staff in front of customers, and having students leave if they are just there to study (even if they are buying drinks and food). The owner does not treat their staff well, and I cannot support something like this. If you feel the same, please do the same thing and avoid this place. read more

This cafe, which serves Japanese desserts, bubble tea, and standard tea/coffee, has a very welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere. They have a large stock of manga and the shelves are decorated with anime figures. They have lots of seating and free wifi so you're welcome to stay and read or work for a while. The staff was also very nice and patient, and they bring your order to you. I got a pudding milk tea with pearls and a slice of souffle cheesecake. While the item called "pudding milk tea" on bubble tea menus often means plain milk tea with pudding topping, theirs is actually egg pudding flavoured milk tea. The flavour was very rich, although a little sweet for my preference (I'm not sure if you can adjust sweetness or ice). The pearls had a nice texture with a balance of chewiness and softness and were unsweetened. This was my first time trying Japanese souffle cheesecake! While I think I prefer traditional cheesecake, this was very interesting and fun to try. Although the consistency of the cake is light, I found it to be pretty filling. The quality baking was evident in the pure taste. The cake was served with a chocolate drizzle and a dollop of whipped cream with mint. In addition to the appealing presentation, being able to eat the cake with the toppings added some interest, but they kept it light enough that the cake was still the focus. For a cafe like this, their prices are quite reasonable. The cheesecake plus bubble tea came out to less than $10, and the portion on both the cheesecake and the drink was on the larger side. The original meet up spot was actually supposed to be next door at Camellia Tea & Coffee, as I was meeting up a friend who just came back into town. Being with the "nomnomnomnivore" we actually noticed this place and decided to just check it out to start, as our friend had not arrived yet. Once we entered she went right to the back noticing all the manga put out on the shelf in order of series. So the question now was whether we were going to stay here, or head on to our original destination next door. And it was now hard to pry her away from the manga aisle... so as I waited, it was practically decided we were meeting at this charming little place. This place has two huge communal tables, and on Canada Day, with people dodging the 30+ degree weather, they were in here with their laptops, whether working.. or gaming, or just hanging out, this was the place. Even though there was about 10 people in here, it was pretty quiet, and when our friend finally arrived I asked what would he like to drink. Getting to the main counter you can see some sweet pastries they carry, that go along with the drinks, they have coffee's and tea's, but today was no day for us for having the hot drink. They gladly made an iced coffee for my friend, and I ordered a strawberry and mango fruit smoothie, no pearls, no jellies, just the drink. They do have bubble teas here, and from one of the selling shelves on the side, they serve, and sell 49th Parallel coffee. I could actually see myself sitting around here, and not for the manga, but if you are a manga fan, and need a drink on this side, this is your place. Also, if you check in and like their page on FB, you get an additional 10% off your order, how nice is that. Whether you need a warm drink, a cold one, or something to eat, they were showing off their waffles as well, and don't want to deal with the norms of the green mermaid you'll like the deocr and seating. read more

After being on lockdown for quite a while and not being able to have dessert on many weekends, this was one of the first places I visited in May. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake smoothie and it tasted tremendous. Excellent strawberry flavor and the cheesecake hints were strong and defined. I decided that this was my new go-to place in all of lower mainland for good quality desserts. Plus, I was sick of paying $6+ for high-end brown sugar bbtea which seems to be the hype. The 2nd time I came here, I ordered the macha green tea with red beans on top. What a huge disappointment - although the dessert looking appealing to the eye, the drink tasted really watered down with almost no flavor. The red beans on top tasted a little sour as well as if they were almost spoiled. My other half got a green tea ice cream cone and it was actually very good. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the business. I decided to give it another chance. So this week, i came here again and ordered the same first drink here - the strawberry cheesecake slush. To my dissapointment, it was tasteless and very watered down. My other friend took a sip and agreed. While i wish the best of luck to all businesses during the pandemic, I won't be coming back to support this tea house. This quite spacious cafe hidden around the corner from the Royal Oak SkyTrain station. If you're an anime fan, they have a whole wall (literally ceiling to floor!) filled with anime books and the store is nicely adorned with anime characters. We visited it late in the evening so some items were sold out but they have lots of drinks and mini desserts( cakes , ice cream, tarts) and a savory waffle creation. We got the strawberry waffle with an original milk tea. It took about 15 to 20 min wait for our order to arrive as the one worker that took our order also had to make it. I would hope that the longer wait time was because many of the items to make the waffle was already put away in preparation for closing ( in about 45 to 50 min ?) But he definitely took care in plating the waffle. What I like about the waffle was the waffle itself had a strawberry batter vs just having strawberry topping ! It was very fruity and perfectly cooked. Nothing special about the milk tea. Later in the day it would be a nice place to come study or get work done as there isn't alot of people but the place is big enough to cater many groups. Funnily enough, this is right next door to Camellia Tea & Coffee. It's smaller, has cheaper cakes, and none of the off-putting posted-clearly admonitions. In fact, their sidewalk sign encourages "study and socialize", and they have extension cords to ensure easy access for laptops, which were plentiful when we dropped in right after checking out Camellia Tea & Coffee. TIP: They even claim to be "pet friendly"! Price for portion on cakes is very good, even better than Camellia Tea & Coffee, which is already better than Breka Bakery -- $3.25 for a decently sized wedge of gluten-free chocolate ganache that was not very dense but pretty tasty. In a restaurant it would probably have been around $8 dollars. Selection in the small fridge counter is small but includes beautiful cakes, interesting items (like their one-bite "Elegant Baskets"), fresh fruit, and a selection of drinks. For a tight space they've made good use of it to try to present a little something for everyone. Go now in case prices start to creep up a few months after opening. Ambiance is very nice with interesting decor of toys. A manga library (which I am assuming is free since I didn't see any pricing) is available -- compared to some downtown manga libraries that charge by time, a Japanese / Korean staple. Communal tables of generous width help students camp out to study. Even so, we didn't have any trouble getting seating, nor was there any sort of line-up per se on the late Saturday afternoon we dropped in. Order-at-the-counter service. Loyalty punch card for each item ordered. Some kind of discount for showing them a Facebook "like" (which I totally forgot to use). Counter staff friendly enough. Nice ambiance + great prices and tasty food add up to high marks. Normally I'd say they'd score higher if they had a greater selection of cakes but the price is more than enough to overcome that (compared to, say, Camellia Tea & Coffee next door). read more

It is comparable to lattes I have had at other Asian shops such as Blossom Teas and Basho Cafe. The matcha waffle was a lovely light dessert. I would have liked some fresh blueberries. For the price, I think it was a reasonably priced snack. Now to the mango slush, we had the choice of mango powder or syrup and type of tea. No fresh fruit option. I would have paid extra for fresh fruit instead but it was $0.50 extra for slush texture. Drink tasted alright but I have had better elsewhere. Ambiance is really cute if you like anime. There are plenty of seating available. Service was attentive and courteous. Staff provided us an extra plate and extra set of cutlery to share the waffle without us asking. Staff also brought the drinks and waffle to our table. It probably helped that we were the only customers at that time but good for them to provide the extra attention.
