Was in the area getting some work done on my vehicle so looking for a coffee spot, I stubbled upon this little gem. It's real cozy with a few seats outside. There was only one employee working that was doing everything, so it took a bit to get my order but understandably so so I'm not upset. The snacks they have were tasty and complemented my beverage well. The staff was pleasant and competent. I recommend stopping by if you're not in a rush, if you want to support a local smaller business it's worth checking out. I only got a coffee and a snack and the price was reasonable.

Cute cafe stop on a Saturday morning. Easy walk up ordering with outdoor seating. London fog was good quality. Drip coffee wasn't anything special but good. The croissants were warmed to order. Leak and Parmesan top design gave a wonderful texture & filling was tasty. The chocolate was a bit too sweet but also had a great texture. Biggest downside - The food was served on styrofoam and plastic utensils were available.

The Hubs and I were around the area and decided to try the well-received place. The place is at the corner of Royal Oak and Grimmer. Metered parking is available on Grimmer. The location has 4-5 patio sets outside and 3 small tables inside with 3 workers working in the open kitchen. Ambience: minimal decor, there are sporadic electric outlets, soft jazz piano music playing in the background, it's a live kitchen so lots of prepping background sounds. Menu: standard offerings for beverages, baked goods are freshly baked over the course of the day. We ordered a freshly baked leek & parmesan turnover ($4.35) and a 16oz cappuccino ($5.2). The order is ready in less than 5 minutes. Unfortunately, disposable cups and containers are still used even for dine-in. Most patrons came in to order to go rather than dine-in. 16oz cappuccino ($5.2): (4.2/5) good size (12oz sets you back $4.4), espresso flavour is not overwhelmed by the milk which means ratio of milk is well-balanced. Beans used are dark and caramel flavored. Leek & parmesan turnover ($4.35): (4.7/5) crispy on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside. The leeks flavours are there but the parmesan seems masked over by the creamy sauce. The fluffy pastry portion is light and delightful to enjoy - perhaps this is accentuated by the fact that it just came out of the oven. Overall: Great little spot for coffee and some fresh pastries. We will definitely come back.

Cute place to come and grab coffee and some baked treats in the Royal Oak area. I did wish there was more seating inside but the food and drinks itself were pretty good! Would recommend for meeting up with friends when in the area.

We do love a good cafe! I was in the area and was in the mood for some coffee and pastries. I decided to hit up this cafe and did not regret it! The iced latte was just right, and the croissants were flakey and delicious. AND there was enough chocolate in the chocolate croissant !! I got it to-go and warmed it up and home - and it was still just as good! The service was also great. The people that was working there was super nice and helpful!

Dropped by here with my mom on a Saturday afternoon. The interior is small so it's hard to find seating here. There's also no parking outside besides the meter parking. The matcha latte is decent - I prefer it a bit stronger but overall no complaints. The croffle is SO good. Crispy bits but also soft. Would come here more often for their croffle, but I felt like the price was a bit much for the portion. It would be a good size for one person. I just felt the price was a bit steep considering it's not a particularly big size and the sliced bananas were very thin - definitely wasn't a full banana. Overall, would come here again but not on the regular.

I stopped by just to grab a cup of coffee so dont know all about it. But its pretty decent cafe with small seating capacity. Two tables on the outside as well. Interesting was the banana bread in banana shape. They do bake all bread fresh in the cafe with their high tech bakery machine. Nice collection of drinks

Pretty good coffee. Tasted like other korean coffee not that special but it was definitely good. Space is small and limited to 2 hours so definitely isn't an ideal place to work on your things here. Cheers!

Don't be fooled by the simple interior - it's an awesome coffee shop! My new favourite in Vancouver. Try the black sugar latte half sweet if you like lattes/add cream and sugar to your coffee. The only place I've seen that does it and they do it well. Small space inside for doing some work or catching up with a friend, and they have a few patio tables as well. Their matcha bread is addictive. So moist and cakey with perfect balance of matcha flavour. Not too sweet. The perfect on the go breaky! They have great combos - panini + coffee for $9 something. We did not try but have returned multiple times.

Small but lovely coffee shop on the corner of Royal Oak and Grimmer -- across Vancity. Looks a bit non-descript outside but interiors are nice. My husband occasionally grabs coffee here but it was my first visit after running some errands at Vancity. I love supporting locally owned shops and this one is no exception. The baristas are nice and place is cozy and clean. Plus coffee is delicious too! Enjoyed my cup of latte with almond milk -- the milk was steamed just right. I found that some coffee shops tend to over steam almond milk but Cafe 106 did it just right. Their pastries are freshly baked daily and they look yummy. Check this place out if you're in the area.

First time to come here for a latte before I met up with friends. The exterior of this coffee shop does not look outstanding but I reviewed this place on Yelp before visiting. The rating was quite high, so my husband and I gave it a try. We ordered a large maple and almond latte. It is new on the menu. There was only 1 barista. It was good that there was only us and another customer; otherwise we might have to wait for a long time for the beverages. The maple and almond latte did not have a flavour of coffee at all. But it tasted good. It had a strong milk and almond milk flavour. It was not too sweet, which was great! We looked at the pastries at the front. They were not super attractive, so we didn't try any. The barista was very quite. He didn't really smile or we didn't feel friendliness from his face. He just served us and the other customer. The interior was okay.... kind of contemporary. Comparing to other coffee shops in the same neighbourhood or ones in Vancouver, the interior could have been improved a lot. First time to come here for a latte before I met up with friends. We were happened to be in this neighbourhood, so we tried this cafe; otherwise we might not come here. It might be good for the people who live in this neighbourhood (I guess).

Cafe 106 is located on Royal Oak Ave and Grimmer Street in Burnaby. It's small and clean neighbourhood cafe. Great coffee and friendly service. Chocolate cake - it's good and not too sweet. Strawberry smoothies - it's fresh and cool. Chamomile tea - Just ok and they did refill for us. Good to stop by when u nearby this area

    London Fog and Tuna Melt
    PennyandRusty P.

Cafe 106 is a smallish cafe on the corner of Royal Oak and Grimmer in Burnaby. When I first came across the name, I briefly wondered if there were 105 other similar cafes somewhere around town but quickly realized that "106" is their unit number. Although the interior is a bit small, it's bright and airy from the light streaming through the windows and they have some toe-tapping light jazz playing in the background. I wound up ordering a creamy 12oz London Fog ($4.45) and a Grilled Tuna Melt ($7.55). The tuna melt was on point with a cheesy tuna filling with red peppers and corn on a crisp ciabatta bun. I dropped by for another visit in April and was surprised at how busy it was (as it was fairly quiet during my first drop-in). This time around, I ordered the Basil Pesto Turkey ($7.55) along with a 12oz Hot Chocolate ($4.15) and a Chocolate Chip Banana Bread ($2.80). I was a bit disappointed that my hot chocolate came in a paper cup instead of a mug but I was pleasantly pleased with the banana bread (love the way they made it into a banana shape). There were thin banana slices that were caramelized on the outside which had a nice light crunch to the exterior while the inside was soft and moist. It actually worked well dipping into my hot chocolate. While there was nothing wrong with the turkey melt, I personally think the tuna melt was better. The sandwich had a couple of layers of turkey breast slices, tomato, and cheese on the basil pesto draped grilled ciabatta bun. Undeterred, I returned for another visit and ordered the Basil Pesto Chicken ($7.55) which is essentially the same as the turkey version but with chicken instead and then paired it with a 12oz London Fog ($4.45) and a chocolate chip cookie for dunking. Overall, it's a nice little cafe shop for a quick bite.

Gray Olive Cafeteria is a bright and simple brunch spot that serves a variety of classic, but well-executed brunch dishes and drinks. The popularity of the place showed as we waited almost an hour for a table today (granted it was a stat), with people continuing to flow in while we were dining. My boyfriend explained that they were originally a small diner, but later upgraded to more spacious seating. The waitress (who was also hostessing) was kind and apologetic for the wait. After we sat down and ordered, the food arrived very quickly. The chicken and waffles immediately caught our eye as it seemed almost one person at every table had ordered it. For $1.75, you can also opt to have your chicken made spicy, and it was very worth it! I also really liked the waffles, despite usually preferring chewier waffles. These waffles had a crispier bite, but were fragrant and delicious regardless. The crab cake benny was also a delicious umami bomb with great textures and flavours. Keep in mind, there probably isn't a lot of actual crab (mostly imitation from what I saw and tasted), but it still tasted good. One standout was the hashbrown potatoes. They were perfectly seasoned and so crispy! I also appreciated that everything wasn't too salty and perfectly seasoned for my asian taste buds. I will definitely return, but on the basis of coming for a reservation only!
