I've been ordering Michele for delivery since the later part of the pandemic, and I have always been a fan. Living in north van, there are no good choices for Chinese baked goods. So when I found Michele willing to deliver to NV, I was thrilled! Their baked goods and cakes are usually fresh and good quality. Until this week... I ordered their Christmas Log for $59. I have a group of 15 people coming over for Xmas dinner, and was going to serve this as the main dessert. To my extreme disappointment, it is sooooo tinyyyyy. The pictures say it all... It's even smaller than a small banana, and will barely serve 6 people. I expected a lot more for $59... They will offer u a free message written on a chocolate decoration. The chestnut cake is absolutely better than any other bakery location in Vancouver. still delicious! Came here for a few slices of cake for mom's birthday and I can only echo what i've said the past few visits. I love their chestnut cake since the filling is light on the whipped cream and not too sweet. My dad still can't stop raving about their black forest and the cheesecake again, was not quite new york dense but moreso than other asian cheesecakes with a good sweetness level. Tried out the mango mousse and tiramisu as well which were all very good! Overall, not too high of a price for soft and delicious cakes! read more

This is one of the few Chinese bakeries that does delivery! I ordered a mango cake and a few selection of bread. There were no issues with the order and delivery. The mango cake was decent; the mango was fresh and the cake wasn't overly sweet. The cake also wasn't dry! I personally would've liked slightly thicker slices of mango. We ordered a few "paper wrapped cakes", sausage buns, red bean bun, pineapple buns, and egg tarts. The egg tarts looked good in the photo. Sadly I was expecting flakey tart shells but that was not the case. The tart was quite soggy and visually the egg tarts didn't look that great nor did they taste good. I think the red bean bun had a sweet crust (like pineapple buns) which I didn't really enjoy. I found it a weird combination, but that is just me. I also would've preferred a sweeter and more paste-like filling. The filling tasted like under-sweetened red beans; some mushed and some whole which isn't bad texturally but made it hard to eat with whole red beans falling out. My bf tried the paper wrapped mini cakes and said they were "okay" and "not bad". I recommend sticking to the cakes. I have yet to try all the pastries, but the red bean bun and egg tarts were not good... A bad egg tart really breaks it for me. read more

Whenever I'm in Kerrisdale, I always must get pastries from Michele Cake Shop... it's one of my favourite Chinese bakeries in Vancouver. Someone had raved to me a long time ago about their Portuguese egg tarts and I haven't looked back since. Due to covid, they currently don't accept walk-ins and everything must be pre-ordered online. On my most two recent visits/orders, I ordered a variety of pastries including: Cocktail Buns, Pineapple Bun, Coconut Cream Bun, and Cheese Weiner Bun. But my favourites and must-orders are always their Portuguese Egg Tarts and Fresh Mango Cake... they're so good! I'm also a huge fan of their Chicken Bun, but unfortunately it's not listed on their website for pre-order (yet ). Hoping that they add that back into their menu soon. read more

It's been 2.5 years since my last update dropping them to 3 stars due to increasing prices while their main competitors A's and SG have not increased at such a rate. Today I've finally decided to drop them further to 2 stars because of their service attitude. You can have good product even with the higher prices but it shouldn't mean you can have substandard service too. The store wasn't busy but the lady who served sure looked like she was in a hurry. We spoke in Cantonese and all she said was "What do you want?" Even in Hong Kong a more polite staff would have said, "What would you like, mister?" We then proceeded to pay and I politely asked if they accept credit cards yet. Same tone. "No. Cash only!" How hard is it to say instead, "I'm sorry, but we only accept cash"? These little gestures go a long way, at least for me. I know many other stores may well be like this but when you have an expansion plan, when you have competitors (direct and indirect), you need to improve your game. I stress this because one of the two mentioned at the beginning sure has better service. I'll let you guess which one. read more

This is my go-to place for fresh mango cake. I absolutely love their sponge cake that they make as it is moist and not overly sweet. This cake required to be order at least 1-2 days in advance and is only available when fresh mango is in season. Boy oh boy, the mango are so good sandwiched between their spongy soft cake. Now, I am not an icing person but I would happily eat up their house made icing on this cake. It is light and fluffy, perfect with the cake. Some of the other items I must get here is their tuna buns with a small slice on seaweed as well as their bbq pork bun. Do remember to grab a tag with a number in order to get serve as sometimes it can get super busy. Definitely a place to go for amazing Hong Kong style bakery in Kerrisdale. These guys deserve a huge shout out. I've eaten Asian pastries/desserts for my entire life. This is a standard HK style bakery with the usual items. That's where the similarities end. First off, the ambience. It's NOT standard at all. The décor all over the walls shows a love for Europe, including travel books and classical music with references to Beethoven. Not only that, there is a picture of Maestro Claudio Abaddo, in his younger years as well as pianist Andre Previn. No Asian bakery that I know of in Vancouver does this. They have classical music playing in the background in the store. Today, it was a violin concerto by Mozart, #1 if I am not mistaken. Again, no Asian bakery in Vancouver does this that I know of. Another thing. They are DEAD SERIOUS AUDIOPHILES. The system they were using to play the classical music was a McIntosh tubed amp, and a Pioneer Elite series player. This is NOT cheap stuff. When I see a system like this, with the accompanying music, you got my attention. My antennae perk up. I didn't get a chance to scope out their speakers. OK, enough about the music and the environment. Two things ordered for take out. Portuguese egg tart and a curry beef puff The curry beef puff was quite tasty. The pastry was flaky and curry flavor was good. The Portuguese egg tart was near excellent, if not the best in Vancouver. Custard was firm and the top was caramelized nicely. The crust is the way I like it. Hard for me to describe it, so you have to try it on your own. This was a five star stunner in my books. I know I am definitely returning for the tarts and to take in the music and the beautiful sound quality coming out of that system. In fact, I'd like to speak with the owner. Cash only. A high end, high quality bakery in Kerrisdale. They are a bit pricey but it's like anything else. You pay for what you get. They use high quality ingredients and are very skilled in what they do. I used to work in the area and one of the cooks I worked with had to borrow some sugar or something from them, he told me that their kitchen was immaculate, you could eat off their floor! That's rare in any kitchen. I love their Portuguese egg tarts, creamy, sweet and the pastry is nice and flakey. Their cakes are also excellent, they use fresh fruit and are delicious. Very rude employees.... Masks are required and I had to ask for a mask since my mask's band was tire up. They didn't provide mask and they asked me to leave immediately with a rude behavior. We ordered a $50 chocolate birthday cake that ended up being 60% cream. The cake layers were so thin and uneven that they were probably made from the tops of discarded cake trimmings. The sponge cake layers were dry as well, and overall the chocolate flavor was weak. What a rip off. read more

Can't beat the quality of their buns here.. For the typical BBQ pork bun, they have tons of meat inside as compare to other places. The baked goods are usually sold out by end of day, so if you want to pick up their Coffee Sponge Cake (my fave), try to get here before 2pm. Some items they do make second batches so ask the server when the items you want is coming out. We had their Mango Cakes and slices of Mousse Cakes and it's light and fluffy and not too sweet. I went there upon recommendation of a few friends because of their famous Portugese egg tarts. The pastries did not disappoint our drive from Coal Harbour to Kerrisdale just for the little tarts. I don't always write a review but I spotted the review regarding the matcha cake at Michele Cake Shop and I can't agree more. The cake I bought had much less strawberries than advertised but had way more butter than necessary. The cake layers were thin and the butter layers were thick. If you eat the whole cake you end up eating 3 or 4 times more butter than the cake you bought from other shops. The strawberries were small. I pieced them up and there was only one and a half strawberries for the whole cake. With that much amount of butter and little amount of strawberry, it is definitely overpriced! I ordered a matcha cake and asked a name and month to be added on the cake. The staff told me the letters would be very small as there were strawberries on top as I could see on the cake displayed in the shop. I had no issue with that and emphasized it was more important to keep the style as it was. When I picked up the cake, I was surprised to see that the letters were quite big, but the strawberries were trimmed in half of the size and in quantity of what was advertised. It was to have white chocolate dripping around the rim, but the cake was heavily wrapped with cream instead and there was no sign of white chocolate. It was so greasy to taste with the over excessive cream. The cake is completely ruined. What's the point for us to choose the design to order when the baker is to come up a different cake of whatever they'd like to do? read more

after doing all my research on finding a good chestnut cake for my mom's birthday, decided to give this bakery a try. Pre-order a 6" chestnut cake on the phone with a not so care young lady who took the order. First impression wasn't so great already, but still i have a high expectation on this cake as it has a high rate on yelp. Just look at the pictures, they are so skimp on the chestnut filling, ration of the cake and filling is totally off, it's like i am paying $30 for a sponge cake. The fruit on top for garnish wasn't fresh either. I suspected the cake wasn't made fresh to order. Taste was ok, not too sweet, sponge is just ok, Nothing special about this cake. I want to give zero star if possible. I only signed up for Yelp to leave this review. I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter, and because of Covid, this was the second birthday without birthday parties, so the birthday cake was really important. To my disappointment, the chocolate plaque on the cake was chipped and then hastily fixed. The plaque had fingerprints on it, and it was disgusting. They touched the chocolate plaque without gloves in the middle of pandemic. They also didn't tell me that it had broken. Of course, like any reasonable person, I had no reason to think that the chocolate would be broken so when they showed me the cake, I only checked for spelling. The chocolate isn't even expensive, so I don't know why they couldn't just make a new one if they broke it. I didn't let my daughter eat the chocolate plaque, of course, and she cried. The cake was supposed to be the main point of the birthday, but it made my daughter cry. There is not much street parking available on West Blvd. especially when there are so many shops. Parking can be a challenge during busy business hours. And so I went in, and I ogled, and I went back to work and asked my boss (who loves cake) if we could take petty cash and go buy a cake.
