Odd how this place gets such a low score, it is really the same as any other Anna's you go to... you know why? Cause the goods come from their main bakery on Broadway and get delivered here, so there should be no product difference except the fact you have to walk into the mall, unlike their other stores which are usually outside. It is the only Anna's in Richmond servicing the area, and for what it is, it is good, sure not many go to Lansdowne mall if you don't really have anything else to do (due to the shopping choices of the mall) but if you are wanting their individual pieces like the favorite Napolean cake, it's there, with all their other signature cakes. A good thing with being in the mall is that you can actually eat the stuff in the mall and get a coffee at the food court if not another vendor. So why this place gets a bad rap I have no clue, but if you are living in Richmond and do not want to cross the bridge to get this bakery, well then you gotta find parking at the mall and walk in. read more

The Mango Cake slice was overly sweet and the sweetness from the glaze overwhelmed the fresh taste of mangoes. It did not taste good anymore because they put too much glaze for the cake slice. The sweetness needs to be appropriate for the cakes to taste good. The Mango pudding was worse - it was tasteless with sour strawberries on top. You could not taste mangoes in the pudding; it tasted watery. Also, they should put mangoes on top of the mango pudding instead of strawberries. This is not a strawberry pudding. Regarding the service, the server asked me if I wanted to put the two items together in a small box. She should give me a bigger box instead because the two items did not fit inside the small box. Therefore, the cream of the cake slice mashed into the box and the cake slice was ruined. Then she told the cashier 'with tax.' It was odd for her to say that because everyone knows that there was tax for the products. Usually, the server would give the purchases to the cashier and the cashier would give the purchases to customers on the cashier counter. But the server told us to go to the fridge counter and she gave us the small box there and said, "There was no handle on the box so be careful when you carry it." She should not make customers walk over to her (it was more difficult to take the purchases over the fridge counter), and she did not need to say that because we could see that there was no handle on the box. Usually, the staff would say 'thank you' when they handed the purchases to customers. She was trying to make us look stupid. Moreover, the cashier just put down the receipt on the counter instead of handing it to us and without saying 'thank you.' Anna's cake shop is one of my favourite Chinese bakeries in Vancouver. They have a couple locations in Vancouver. My must order products have to be the chicken pie, the cappuccino tart, the walnut Napoleon and the cream bun. The chicken pie - I don't know how they make the chicken so juicy and flavourful. There's also gelatine bits or collagen bits in it that just bring the whole dish together. The pie crust is always nice, crispy and buttery. Never a let down with the chicken pie. The cappuccino tart is for coffee lovers. It tastes a lot like coffee and is really creamy and delicious. The tart crust is crunchy and always holds well. The walnut Napoleon can be a hit or miss depending on the day. Some days I find that it gets soggy and other days it's nice and crispy so it all depends on luck. The cream bun is also a hit and miss product. Some days the bun is nice and fluffy and other days it's kind of tough. The butter cream on the inside is always delicious though. My biggest peeve are the ever rising prices. They are still cheap compared to other bakeries but they are starting to get too pricey to be a daily bakery. I remember the old prices and the new prices just hurt. But that's not their fault, that's just how things are now. Overall would recommend getting their baked goods. read more

As one of the most recognizable local chains of the Vancouver / Richmond area, Anna's Cake House has been tantalizing dessert lovers for decades. I practically grew up on these pastries and "Anna Bang" (#1) was something my family had to get whenever we came out to BC. Their mini-cakes / pastries seem to be the most popular items to get. Each are airy and light and there are a myriad of flavors to choose from. The Napoleon (both Swiss and walnut) cakes are a solid choice, as is the chocolate cake and mango fruit tarts. Even though I'm not a fan of the coconut cakes, it seems many others are. I think their bun selection deserves a nod. I've long enjoyed their ham and cheese, curry beef, garlic hot dog buns, and their "wife cake" (loh por bang) is very solid. This location in Lansdowne is the only one in Richmond for now. The ladies who work here are super nice and are pretty straight forward with their recommendations. Sometimes during their later hours, they'll cave and sell their pastries / buns for as much as half off. Their English isn't so great, which may be problematic for whenever they have to write it for custom cake decorations. While it may be difficult to consider them the "best" Chinese bakery in the area, they still have a solid selection and some super service. I haven't had a cake from Anna's Cake House in a long time. I had it again today. It still tasted good and the quality has remained the same. The cake design looked the same many years ago. I liked the cake was not too sweet and it had mixed fruits on top and inside the layers. There are different Chinese bakeries such as St. Germaine's Bakery, Maxim's, and T&T's in the market. Anna's Cake House may consider providing more varieties or update the cake designs or presentations in order to keep up the business among these bakeries. Asian bakeries are a dime a dozen in Richmond. I only came here because I was in the mall & the sweet bakery aroma called out to me! I decided to get 2 buns: the hotdog & cheese bun, and the bacon & green onion bun. The hotdog bun contained probably less than half a hotdog inside. Most other Asian bakeries give you a full hotdog, so this was kinda a rip. Taste wise, it was alright, nothing fantastic. The bacon & green onion bun contained a few bits of bacon and a sprinkling of green onion. Taste was alright too. For both the above buns, it seems like I was eating mostly bun and not the other namesake ingredients. Price wise, they're priced around the same as most other Asian bakeries. I'll probably stick to my usual faves Kam Do and Maxim's bakeries next time. read more

Overpriced cakes and buns and just horrible customer service. Avoid this place if you can. Staff does not smile and could not care. Purchase 8 pieces of items and they separated into 2 boxes. They were able to tie one box with a ribbon and used tape to close the other box. I just requested both boxes to be tied up together and she just says not possible when clearly it is possible. I like that they have fast and reliable service...I was freaking out cause it was my mom's birthday and no one mentioned cake....being the responsible one in the family I quickly looked up places on yelp. Anna's had always been a favorite of mine because their cakes are not too dense or sweet to fit the Asian taste preferences. I really was saved by Anna's cause they had my cake ready within hours after I called at 11a, and I could it pick it up anytime after 2:30pm. That's what I love about Chinese efficiency. At the Lansdowne location, cakes and pastries are 20% off Wednesday - Friday after 6:30 pm. For purchases over $15, it's 30% off. How can you resist this deal? Service is quick. Too quick because I had a hard time deciding! Curry beef puff, strawberry puff, chicken pie, mini mango mousse. Curry beef puff: more pastry than filling. Estimate that there about a tablespoon filling if that. I didn't find it very flavorful at all. Chicken pie: heavy, buttery dough. Filling lacked flavor and was mostly mushy potato based. Very disappointing. I found their strawberry puff the best out of my selection. The filling was light and sweet, and just the right level of sweetness in my opinion. If you are not accustomed to Asian pastries, you might find this not sweet enough. Strawberries were fresh. Mini mango mousse: light, fluffy and so delicious! This location is really small, but I usually pick up a few things if I'm in the mall. Service is average, nothing to write about. Good quality - love their buns and mini pastries. Their cakes are light and not too sweet, and they can quickly do up a message if you buy one of the ones in the case for a last minute gift. Pretty much any type of chinese pastry you want is here. Curry buns, coconut buns, cakes, etc. These are all so yummy! Location is inside the mall so you have to navigate around to find it, but just look at the directory. I've always found this place busy and packed. Maybe it's also a small outlet but the line moves quickly. read more

I ordered a 7 X 7 Fresh Mango cake for my Mother-in-Law's birthday in late May. The cake was fabulous, and my Mother-in-Law was very happy with it. I had a bit of a communication issue with my customer service rep, and I wish I had ordered a bigger cake (if there is one a bit bigger - it wasn't clear) - we had 3 teenage boys and 2 big dudes in the group of 9, and we devoured it without any leftovers - I think a few of us would have eaten a second piece :-). The cake was around $40. I tried the mango cream puff and the strawberry mango mousse cake last week. The cream puff was quite tasty but a bit soggy (it had whipped cream and chunks of fresh mango inside), and I did not care for the mousse cake - the gelatin texture and flavour was a little off-putting to me (kind of industrial / hospital taste). I was shopping in this bakery store on Sept,11 .Sunday around 4pm.When I decided to pay for my bread I took a number and waiting for my turns, included me only 3 groups of people in the store. Those 2 group of people didn't get the ticket, because they saw I have a ticket in my hand and ask me did they need a ticket, before I told them where to get the ticket, the staff ask them to go to the cashier to do the cash out. Me and another customer feel so confused, than I ask the staff did I suppose to line up or suppose to take a number.
