Fresh fruit cake
Nisha M.

They have the lightest, spongiest fresh fruit cake I've ever had. It's not too sweet and made with whipping cream. They can make it without eggs upon request, which is great.

I love this bakery! When you enter don't even think of it just grab a tray, yes the ones you see in the food courts trust me you'll need it everything is pretty affordable usually under a dollar per pastry except the cakes. I love the coconut buns, anything with red bean or taro!! If you like Asian pastries this place is for you! The white fruit cake are also delightful so light not too sweet. I always leave here with more then I planned on buying, its like the Costco of bakeries. Only down side is they only take cash which is disappointing, I think Id be here more often if they accepted cards. They also have gift certificates.

I do like grabbing buns here. Its fresh. Made Daily. Staffs are ok. Not like friendly but again this is not a restaurant. Most people just grab what they need and go. Its located in a mall so parking is not a problem. Come early to get the good stuff. Or else you are left with left over.

Pretty convenient location for your Chinese baked goods. Besides a few other Asian bakeries out there in Vancouver, I've been returning to Maxim's for over 20 years. They have a huge variety of sweet and savoury goodies. I also see they've improved their skills in the cake department too. When I walked into the store, I was greeted with a "Hello, how can I help you?" Wow, surprised I actually received a smile and greeting. Good job overall! Keep in mind they are cash only.

Maxim's is an institution for baked goods that started in Asia. I wasn't aware that they were established in Hong Kong until one of my coworkers who happened to be Irish Canadian told me about it. She lived over there back in the 1980's and she said, "They were at almost every street corner!" As for myself, I've been eating baked goods from Maxim's since I started crawling. Hey, my first birthday cake was from Maxim's. That was when they had their first store at Chinatown in Vancouver. Now, they have expanded elsewhere to the suburbs such as Burnaby. They've been always reliable for baked goods such as fruit topped birthday cakes, buns that are either sweet or savoury, and egg tarts. I tried their coconut buns and it had generous amount of coconut filling and the bun itself was soft and moist. If you're a fan of coconut, you will love it! Their dark chocolate covered fruit tarts with custard and cream was quite tasty. The tart was lightly dipped in dark chocolate, so there wasn't much dark chocolate taste to it, but the fruit, custard and cream tasted fresh and flavourful. They're small tarts, so expect to eat more than one.

Reasonably priced fresh cakes, pastries, buns and breads. They bake/make items on site. If you buy 6 items you don't pay gst. I would have given them 5 stars if they accept debit or credit cards. You don't always have cash, right?

My fav!! Jin dui with black sesame

L'otus Cake Boutique - Dark chocolate crepe

It was not overly sweet, presentation was beautifual, however, raspberry mousse was partially frozen, a bit watery, and flavor was very weak. Hojicha milk was just ok. Hojicha cream form was very creamy and good, but, flavor was very weak. Strawberry puree was fine, Strawberry puree and cream form dominate this drink. I wish hojicha flavor could be more stronger. Matcha strawberry milk was ok, too. matcha flavor was not too strong, strawberry drink part was good. Cream form was very creamy and good. All items prices were on higher side. Next time, I might try at Richmond locataion.

There's a wide variety of cakes and drinks, so it's easy to find something whether you're into classic flavours or more adventurous options. We tried several cakes, double-layer cheesecake, dark chocolate crepe, durian crepe, gelato, matcha with cheese foam, and tea. Honestly, we couldn't pick a favourite--everything was delicious. Even the durian crepe, which surprised us in the best way. It was creamy, well-balanced, and not overpowering. Overall, the cakes stood out, and every bite felt thoughtfully crafted. If you're looking for a café with great ambiance and consistently good desserts, this place is definitely worth visiting. Highly recommend their cake selections.

Maison Mori - Black shio bread

My favorite is Soboro chestnut cube, sweet potato cube, Shio pan, mugwort mochi bun, mochi mochi bread and roll cakes. Cube breads are excellent items. Dough is very soft and fillings are great, especially Soboro chestnut cube's small chestnut pieces and crunchy soboro topping makes it addictive. Shio pan is very buttery , one of the best in town. I also liked Mochi mochi bread which had very chewy texture like mochi, but this time, I felt the one I had in the past tasted better. However, Rich bread was very good. The dough is similar to brioche with very rich, buttery flavor. This one is definitely better than before. Overall, I really liked their products. Highly recommend if you have a chance to visit North road

I've long heard about Korean salt bread and had been wanting to try. Maison mori offered a couple of salt bread selections. I didn't know which to get so I asked for recommendations. The staff wasn't helpful at all. "They're all good." She also said the bread is Korean style bread that is popular in Korea. Then I asked why use the Japanese word for salt, i.e. "shio". She then responded that the bread is Japanese style. Like, which is it? Korean or Japanese? After consulting Gemini AI, the two styles are fundamentally the same but the texture is different. Regardless of Japanese or Korean style, I got the original and black (squid ink). I honestly don't see what the hype is. It's essentially just butter roll with salt sprinkled on top. Lol.
