    Lemon tart
    Danielle B.

I had seen some reviews for this place and was intrigued by all the goodies I saw in the photos. Unfortunately, when I stopped in they had almost nothing left in the display case. I got an almond croissant and a lemon tart as they were some of the only items left that weren't cake. Both of them were quite good, but I've had better croissants. The lemon tart was something I'd definitely order again though. Very good lemon flavour and not too sweet. Service was standard counter service, nothing exceptional there. There was a small lineup when I arrived, about 6 people ahead of me, but it moved fairly quickly. It was busy but not excessively loud. Seemed like a nice place to grab a coffee and a pastry with a friend. I just wish the parking situation was better. Very small lot out front and almost no available parking on the street. I'd return at a less busy time, if there is such a time!

I got the sweet potato latte for the very first time. It was pleasantly delicious. It had a slightly roasted flavor, not too sweet, and was very smooth. The customer service was prompt and friendly. The rest of the bakery looked like they had a lot of good options. Seating is limited

First time coming to the Royal Oak location after being a huge fan of the jubilee location for years. Its interior is small and cozy, but there's no seating inside. The way they decorated it is nice and simple. There are some tables outside, but very limited. They're super slow. It was a weekday at lunch time, there isn't a rush of people.. but they take their time. There were only two people in front of me who ordered one drink each, but my entire interaction from waiting in line to getting my drink took about 20 mins. The workers were nice, but seemed a little inefficient. Drinks and food were good-- about the same quality as the other location. I probably wouldn't come back for leisure, but I would for convenience if I need coffee nearby.

Was introduced to La Foret when my office ordered their sandwiches for catering. The sandwiches were so good, I had to check out the actual location. This is a full brunch/cafe/lunch spot with so many items on the menu from specialty drinks, cakes, full brunch items, sandwiches and pasta. I usually don't enjoy how overwhelming and out of theme big menus are but La Foret made me want to come back to try out more dishes/baked goods. This time, we came for a very light breakfast, we got an americano, a golden apple oat latte, the banana cake and coffee bun. Everything was very good and tasty. Especially loved the crispy bits on the coffee bun. This was a $20 order. Parking is very limited at the restaurant. There are some street parking around the residential area. Great decor and ambiance, very open space, lots of greenery. On a Sunday morning, there were already lots of people there.

Met a friend for lunch at La Foret. First time here. Very busy and limited parking (luckily I walked!) Snagged an outdoor table. Food was tasty but I wasn't wowed. Perhaps I should try the Jubilee location next time as I've heard there is more selection there? I was intrigued by the loaf with squid ink. Might purchase that next time to see what it is like.

La Forêt in Metrotown is a nice cafe. Great ambiance and decor. Pastries, coffee, food all solid. Their challenge is...service (isn't it always?! That's always the most difficult aspect...anyone can put up a few lights and decor). But service is tough. Specifically, wait/line management. Huge line. Two cashiers. All it takes is one customer with a big order - or trouble with mobile pay - to hold up the line. This is what happened when I was there, and it was mid-afternoon on a weekday. I urge them to take a page out of Breka's **fantastic** management and have one person run the orders down the line with an iPad so customers aren't stuck waiting. I also recommend pickup notification (those things that buzz when your food is ready). And/or QR ordering and table delivery (though that adds cost to a business' operations). My coffee order was ready quickly, but the barista didn't call it out, so it was just left idling unceremoniously next to the espresso machine, as I sat and wondered which one of the drinks was mine. I finally had to go up and ask. Simple fixes. Huge results. Learn from Breka. They l have mastered it - and it shows.

Earl Grey Croissant ($8.50) and Tiramisu Roll Cake ($9.25)

WHEN: Sun @11:45am PARKING: They have a small lot but we managed to park on the street right in front, and it's free. Since it's Sunday, it's definitely busy. You line up first to order, then you sit. It's quite spacious inside with plenty of seating, so we managed to find a large on for our party of 6 (3 adults + 3 kids). Here's what we shared: BREWED COFFEE - $3.95 (16oz) So I asked for iced-coffee, and they literally served me hot coffee and added ice, which melted instantly as soon as it was passed on to me, haha. I guess I should have ordered an Americano, since on the menu it states that it's served hot or cold. My mistake. I just wish they suggested it. ICED COCONUT SPANISH LATTE - $6.65 (16oz) Categorized under the Summer Drink menu section, be sure to stir this up before drinking, otherwise you'll get a mouthful of sweet milk as your first sip, haha. Very creamy and rich, with subtle sweetness, all served with ice. BINGSOO - STRAWBERRY - $19 (large) Fresh Strawberry, Strawberry Ice-cream, Condensed Milk, with Mochi Topping. Made the mistake of choosing mochi instead of cheesecake for the topping because mochi mixed with ice only makes it hard and not gooey. but everything else about this cold treat was good. Great to share too! I appreciate that it was brought out on a tray since this can get really messy, haha. TIRAMISU ROLL CAKE - $9.25 CAD Not a fan. Not enough of that tiramisu essence. It's like ordering a mocha or coffee flavored cake. Should have gone with the Earl Grey. The cake part was dry. EARL GREY CROISSANT - $8.50 CAD A croissant with delicate layers coated with Earl Grey Chocolate, filled with Earl Grey infused cream filling. Kids didn't like it for more for the adults! That's when you know you really taste the earl grey, which we liked! And there's SO much filling! The croissant is quality and huge, so this pastry is definitely shareable. This cafe is so lovely, and I appreciate there being so much seating. There's a lot to pick from, whether it's a beverage, a pastry/dessert, or even brunch meals! We all enjoyed our time here. Thank you La Foret!

I came here as the first outlet on Jubilee was busy. This cafe near Royal Oak was tucked away at the end of the street with a dead end. Parking is limited with only 3 spots but you can probably find street parking. This place is much smaller with a few tables on the patio. It is more of a to-go place for your pastries and cakes. They also sell sandwiches and paninis which are pre-made in the boxes. Unfortunately they cannot heat up the sandwiches, only the paninis. The food was good. The quality was consistent with the main branch. The flat white I had was pretty decent. I did like the chicken cranberry sandwich which was on the sweet side. I also tried the matcha cloud croissant which was quite sweet too. It was huge and it would be good to share it. I had a hard time finishing it. The toasted whole hazelnuts added a delightful crunch to the soft pastry. This is a good place to just get pastries and cakes to go. Not really a place to meet friends and have a leisurely chat. The one on Jubilee would be a better location for that.

A small bakery with pretty looking pastries from sweet donuts, elegant cakes, rich ice cream and buttery croissants plus coffees and sandwiches. It's within walking distance from Royal Oak skytrain and has different decor than its first location. This 2nd location doesn't serve full breakfast items but it does carry 4inch cakes and ice cream! I visit here for ice cream, to pick up a Cobb salad or chicken sandwich, or to buy a coffee bun and some croissants. ...I choose to buy pastries here due to its chilled vibes with no crowds and line-ups... this place is def more of a to go shop, with limited seats. There are bar stools by the window and a small cute patio area outside. Altho there are no water views nor fancy high tea items, I enjoy its quiet location. It's a hidden gem spot to soothe my introvert needs for peaceful me time and indulge in ice cream.

Back to my pastry reviews. La Foret might look unassuming from the front but it's one of the prettiest cafe I've been to in Vancouver. Serving Korean-inspired desserts (with aesthetic to match), this cafe is usually always full during the weekends. It's a counter service but the staffs were friendly and helpful in providing recommendations. My friend and I got blueberry and kinako (soybean) croissants. The pastries were definitely crunchier and airier versus traditional French croissants, but we felt that actually work well with the generous cream fillings. Also, La Foret managed to secure the ultimate stamp of approval from my friend: "Not too sweet". She did tell me not to buy the pre-made packaged almond croissant though, as it's apparently stale and did not taste fresh.

    Oliver M.

If the main La Foret location is too packed, come to this one! The interior gives off cute Paris vibes and has an array of delicious pastries to go with standard cafe drinks made carefully by wonderful staff! The only thing I will add is that although this location is not as popular is the main one, that seating is quite limited so you are not guaranteed a spot!

This is La Foret's branch just behind the Royal Oak Skytrain station. Much less busy and crowded than their main branch and they have ice cream too. Beautiful outdoor seating during the summer. I ordered a blueberry supreme croissant and a salted caramel donut for the hubby. I loved my croissant, it has lots of filling and layers were well done. Not too sweet yet still indulgent. Hubby said that the donut was a tad bit too sweet but we're just glad there's a solid pastry place near us. I also tried their blueberry cheesecake ice cream and I enjoyed it. The kid's scoop was just the right amount for me. They have a bit of parking available or park by the skytrain station.

    Matcha still my favorite

The croissants are amazing, very clean and nice shop, really love their pastry as it's not overwhelmingly sweet.

I ordered the chocolate slice cake, wifey got a berry croissant and we got a tiramisu tart and tiramisu box to go. I ordered a house coffee just for something to drink with the cake and wifey also got a mocha. The cake was very good, not super sweet(for regular person) I'm diabetic so this was probably a bit much for me but I wanted to try. The butter cream in between each layer of chocolate sponge cake was smooth. The chocolate ganache was shiny and soft. I personally like more cake in general but this is a solid cake if you like butter cream and chocolate!. Wifeys croissant was full of cream on top and in the middle. Very soft and good for whipped cream lovers. The berries were large and sweet. Baked goods on terms from the ones we partook in were very good. The menu has shrunk considerably and their business days/hours are also a lot less than what it was previously. The drinks were not as tasty as they used to be. My Blue Rose drink was the best of the bunch and I would say even that was just OK. I enjoyed the Lychee jelly in my drink. That was probably the best part of the drink. The liquid part was kinda "meh" for me. I think the best thing we ordered was the matcha soft serve ice cream. On the flip side, there was a guy playing piano there and they were taking requests. I suggested Demon Slayer and the guy played the famous "Gurenge" song by Lisa from season one of Demon Slayer. That was kinda cool. He was a very good pianist. Great way to liven the atmosphere. Also, there was a guy who came around and gave us all tiny paper cranes. It's nothing much, but still always nice to be gifted with anything at all. Business must be hard for them. It would sure be nice to see them return to how they used to be, with a bigger menu, tastier drinks and more days/hours again. We love this place for the manga/ anime vibes that it exudes, and love the Matcha soft serve ice cream they sell here. Really wanna give this place a higher rating but the drinks were really not up to par this time, and as much as we love the Matcha ice cream, it is not by itself enough to warrant giving out a higher rating. If they could just improve the quality of their drinks again...then even if they menu remains limited, at least if everything they serve is of good quality...that would be enough to merit a higher rating.
