I like this store especially when I'm hungry and needing a quick bite. My favorites are the bbq pork and beef sandwiches. They taste good and are reasonably priced. Wish they had more fillings though. Be forewarned they have a lot of air, lol. But I know it's a high inflation environment. They also have plenty of bread options. They even have cakes. I tried the Black Forest Butter Cake and it was good, creamy and fluffy and would have gone well with coffee. I was satisfied! The place is clean. It's inside the mall. They put a big piece of coloured plastic (black and red) to surround the 8" durian cake that I ordered and they taped the plastic which made it difficult to remove it (usually the bakeries put a small transparent plastic to surround the cake without the tape because it is easier to remove it this way). Also, the coloured plastic was unnecessary for the kind of cake that I ordered (usually it is used to stabilize the mousse cake but mine is a cream cake). The coloured plastic made the cake look ugly, and it gave them an excuse to put less cream and decoration for the cake. Everything was tasteless - the cream (powder taste), the durian meat (weak taste mixed with cream), the sponge cake (minimal egg taste), and the fruits on top of the cake (they did not have the clear sugar glaze for the fruits; they tasted bitter and the kiwi still had bits of skin on - it was gross). The cake was nasty because the flavour of the ingredients was minimal and it was not sweet. It deterred you from finishing it. In addition, there was a small piece of debris (brown shell) in the cake; it was scary. They did a poor job for the cake (it was just big and heavy - quantity over quality); it was very disappointing. In terms of the service, the staff asked me to pay some deposit when I ordered the cake at the store. It was unusual for bakeries to ask customers for deposit because usually customers pay when they pick up the cake (e.g. when you order the cake by phone then you pay when you pick it up). When I went there to pick up the cake, the staff did not greet me, look at me, or talk to me at all; she just took my receipt and retrieved the cake. She did not even say 'thank you' and she looked annoyed. The staff should be happy to get the whole cakes for customers because the whole cakes are the most expensive item in the store and they are celebratory. The fact that she just taped one small candle with the plastic knife on the box without asking was unprofessional. Cakes are about happy occasions. But their cake made me feel terrible after eating it. They charged me $80 for the cake. It was not even worth half the price with the service. P.S. The bakeries always have a catalogue of cakes for customers because the store would not have all kinds of cakes available in the fridge. Then the staff would explain to customers of their design capabilities. That is service. The fact that the bakeries do not provide a catalogue to customers and just give customers a price list instead means they want to limit the choices for customers by just showing the customers the cakes in the fridge. That means they do not want customers to be happy. If the staff do not want to sell to customers, that means they do not want business. read more

A small little bakery tucked away opposite the apple store in Richmond Center. The store is filled with tons of cheap Chinese buns, red bean, pineapple buns, etc. it's all incredibly cheap at 1.50-3.00 cad. I got two of the pork floss buns. They were nice soft buns filled with a sweetened mayo and topped with pork floss and seaweed strips. Amazing. read more

If you been to any Maxim's here in the GTA, it's the same stuff at this one in Richmond. H'Angry and needed some sustenance during my shopping. Could have gone upstairs to the food court but I wanted something to munch and walk with. Usual spread of buns, plus their creations. Lots of desserts and sweets all around as well. Sure it's not in one of the Chinese markets and inside a shopping mall but this way you can "almost" be sure that they are following some food handling guidelines. Really enjoyed the Sesame Balls - it was a fresh batch. The rest of them may have been sitting for a while. Their food is OK and I was OK to finish up the windows shopping. Buns, buns, and more delicious buns. We came here within 2 hours of the mall closing so selection was limited. This is to be expected. Despite the high volumes they undoubtedly faced during the day, everything remained very clean. The tongs and trays are clean (unlike some other areas where you'll get crumbs from the last customer). After buying our buns, we couldn't wait and had to try one! My fiancé got a peach custard strudel but because of his clumsiness, he dropped the ONLY PEACH SLICE on the ground. I made a loud gasping sound and his mom exclaimed, "that's the best part!" To our surprise, the woman behind the counter smiled and quickly said she would give us another. We offered to pay but she insisted and proceeded to run around the counter to personally deliver a replacement. THAT IS WHAT I CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE! PS the buns are also delicious too!!! read more

Convenient location in Richmond Center. Bakery is clean, bright, and smells good. Bakery items are not cheap but I guess that's what you expect from a fancy looking bakery shop. Our favorite items are eggs tarts and paper-wrapped cupcakes. Egg tarts could use a firmer crust. More selections would be nice. read more

Usually this is my last stop before heading back to the US. This Maxim's is basically the same as most others, and it is in Richmond Centre. I love the fact that I can get a lot of pastries that taste good and is relatively cheap. You pick up a tray and a pair of tongs, and pick the pastries that you want. I normally go for the coconut buns (or chicken tail buns), rice cake ("white sugar" cake), chicken rolls, egg tarts and BBQ buns. Each pastry is around $1 CDN, so load up before heading for the border (buy 6 and get it tax free; accepts only cash so this is a good place to offload your spare Canadian money). read more

Quality of their pineapple buns have deteriorated overtime. I got three of their mini pineapple buns around noon time on Sunday and it tasted stale. The almond twists weren't that much better. I'd already acquired a liking for red bean paste buns when I founds this place, but I don't think I'd seen a Chinese bakery on this scale. Rather like Golden Gate in London's Chinatown, you take a tray and some tongs, and use them to gather the products you want. At the checkout they are put into a box and totalled up for you. But it's a lot bigger than Golden Gate Besides conventional looking cakes, they do a range of cakes and buns stuffed with fillings sweet and savoury (and often both). It's great for if you want something a little unusual, especially if you also crave something that's probably not that healthy! While I was staying in Richmond I probably ate far too much of their stuff: hot dog buns, lotus bean cakes, pork and pineapple bun (which I didn't like). Unfortunately they did seem to lack in red bean paste I tried a yellow bean paste bun as an alternative. The paste was sweet (as expected). I noticed a lump of what seemed to be carrot in it. Fine by me (and after all, carrot cake is popular in the UK). Then I bit into something else. Being sweet it took me a moment to work out what it was, and I'd already swallowed some. It was a mushroom I'm allergic to them. Oh well, I survived and have forgiven them! If I go back I'll be careful to ask if there are mushrooms in any other of their sweet buns! read more

I've bought many of the Pastries and Cakes here over the years and I have got to say this place is one of the best Asian Bakeries in Richmond. As expected , the place can get really busy during their peak hours but the staff make sure everyone gets moved along quickly. The pastries are pretty cheap but cakes are a bit on the pricier side , which is okay considering they're freshly made and taste amazing.
