Peanut Biscuit $8
Lindsey D.

Ok... this is embarrassing.... but the owner knows me by now...I've only visited 5 times and only 3 was successful. 2 times I've left empty handed. I specifically drive out to Richmond for Bread. I don't say this often. They don't need my review nor advertisement. They have their die hard fans. Their breads, and I mean their base bread is to die for. I can review that loaf now. I bought 3 loaves for myself and to share and today is day 5... I'm finishing the last few slices earlier and it's still soft and fragrant unrefrigerated. I've made HK style "office sandwiches" and kept it in the fridge, and it tasted fantastic and still soft. What sorcery is this? Other notable buns are: tea eggs with preserved vegetable baked bun seaweed egg omelette with white sauce baked bun Peanuts $8 a bag I've tried it because I'm a fan of Arleens tastebuds It is not greasy, excellent crunch that is not crispy. I'm glad I can stop after a handful, that bag can last one person 2 weeks. So considering the price, its not that bad. I will pass on the Swiss roll, only because I'm not a fan of this icing.

Box of yolk pastries.

Our first taste of their offerings. They came from a box of their 'yolk pastries'. A colourful, gift box, and surprise which came our way recently, and contained some wonderful new-to-us taste treats!! With their flaky crusts, and colourful, flavourful centers, these little pastries sure look and taste good. Such a nice treat, and sure appreciated. Now must enjoy without over-indulging!

The taro bread is hands down the best I've ever had. Totally worth the drive from Seattle.

Last December, I was lucky enough to win a prize package from Kam Do Bakery from a contest they…read moreheld on social media. I received with a box of assorted pastries, a box of wife cakes, and $30 in gift cards. This is my honest review of my visit and I wasn't required to post a review. When I came into the store, the staff were confused about what I was trying to pick up at first, but it was quickly resolved when the manager came to the front counter and I explained to her that I was one of the contest winners. The queue was short because not many customers was inside at the time so I was in and out pretty quickly. The store area was spacious and there were quite a lot of pastries on display. The pastries i received were beautifully boxed. They could definitely be presented as gifts to loved ones or work colleagues. The box was gold and red, with a golden foiled design on the lid and a gold string ribbon to keep the lid closed. The pastries themselves were gorgeous. Just looking at them made my mouth water. They were soft and crumbly to the touch. The buns of the pastry were buttery and the outer layer was very flaky with every bite. Some of the pastry buns had sesame seeds sprinkled on the top. They were all baked perfectly. The inside fillings were quite sweet but no overly sweet. There was no indication on the box on what kind of pastries they were so im not totally sure what kind of pastries i received. Some had a sweet tasting filling with an egg yolk or a century egg center, just red bean paste, or just some other type of sweet filling. I shared the pastries with my family over afternoon green tea and they were a hit! My family loved them. The wife cakes I received were very soft, tasted delicious, and sweet but not as sweet as the assorted pastries. They were filled with winter melon filling, i believe. They were also made a great pairing when they were served with tea. They were all individually wrapped with plastic wrap which helped keep them fresh. The boxed was also nicely designed with gold and red colors. My family really liked them. Overall, i think Kam Do bakery is one of the best Chinese bakeries in Richmond. Gotta give them 5 stars for their absolutely delicious pastries.

Car's Dessert - Durian Mochi x 2

Car's Dessert is a hidden gem for mochi lovers! This small takeout shop delivers big on quality and…read morecare. We tried the combo pack with Durian, Purple Yam, Chestnut, and Mango, and every bite was delightful. The mochi wrapping is impressively thin, with a pillowy texture that makes each piece melt in your mouth. While I usually gravitate toward durian, the Chestnut and Purple Yam stole the show. You can really taste the effort and pride in the chestnut puree--it's smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. The staff are warm, friendly, and clearly proud of their craft, which adds to the charm of the experience. This is absolutely one of those places worth lining up for. If you're in the mood for artisanal mochi that's made with care, Car's Dessert should be at the top of your list.

Also compared it with a few other changfen/rice roll places in Richmond and we still loved this one the most, especially at this price point ($7.50 cad with egg added) The changfen isn't in very distinct strips because it hasn't had time to cool down and take shape, but I didn't mind. There's also a little table to sit at and the chili oil is SO GOOD OH MY GOD AND you MUST add an egg It's also super sweet how they're always really excited when we mention that we always stop by when we come up from Seattle :,) HARMONY BAKERY MY GOAT

I got the beef rice noodle roll and added egg for a $1 surcharge, total $7 CAD. What a bargain when other popular rice noodle rolls are approaching $10 CAD. They make each order fresh so it was steaming hot when I got my order. The soy sauce is prepackaged as this is primarily a takeout spot with just 5 seats in a small table (communal). However, we were able to find a spot and enjoyed the dish in the store. The rice noodle roll was really solid - they're not mushy like other places and they are easy to take apart. The soy sauce complements well with the dish and the beef is quite flavorful. I'd definitely come back here if I am craving rice noodle rolls. The only challenge is parking as half of the already tiny parking lot is reserved for staff and you'll be fighting for parking even at off lunch hours around 2pm.
