With things slowly getting back to normal (yay!), we were able to celebrate my Dad's birthday with the family yesterday. Ordered this Blueberry Cake from Good Morning Bakery, located in Hanin Village in Coquitlam. This bakery came highly recommended.. and it was absolutely delicious! Always nice to find another spot to order cakes from! Their pastries also looked really good when I went in to pickup the cake. Will definitely have to try in the future.

I was here the first time to buy bread. It is a Korean bakery plus a small cafe. The space is small, so i felt packed everywhere. However, the buns, bread and cakes looked very delicious. I bought a coffee bun, a small loaf of mocha bread, soboro bun (crispy peanut butter on top) and a bun with some almond pieces on top (sorry I forgot what it is called). The coffee bun had some custard inside. It was okay. The soboro bun was very light that I was eating air (which means it was not filling). The bun with almond pieces on top tasted very sweet. Probably it was not my favourite bread. The mocha bread was okay or average. I may try their cakes next time, but won't buy their bread anymore. Pricing is reasonable. There is a share parking lot outside the bakery.

I was close to the neighbour, and did some Korean grocery shopping. I decided to drop by this little Korean bakery and saw various amounts of baked good and cakes. I wasn't in the mood to stay and eat and decided to take some home. The lady that was working there was eager to help us as this location wasn't busy during 8:30pm. I decided to get a sample of the cream fruit cake, tiramisu, and cheesecake - and also saw some dark chocolate cookies there - and might as well pick them up as I can share them. After sharing this with family - here was the consensus. The cookies were very dry and hard. The cheesecake was better quality and was actually not bad - a little average. The cream cake was also average - not the best. I don't think this place deserves 4 or 5 stars. In my opinion the quality needs to be corrected to wow the customer.

A stop for us one morning recently, during a walkabout after breakfast in Hanin Village. We dropped in for a look-around, checked out the various offerings, and enjoyed the very friendly and helpful service. From our look, the bakery had a fine selection of bakery stuff & such, with a few tables to sit and enjoy with a coffee when/if desired. We were told that later each morning, they also offer a selection of freshly-made sandwiches (we were shown the board listing the kinds and prices) - handy for those in the area seeking something to take-out for lunch. We had just finished breakfast so were really not looking for much, but did end up purchasing some red bean buns to take back to our hotel for a lunch or afternoon snack (enjoyed - found them to be very fresh and tasty!!). Cute and attractive little place, with very friendly service. Wish we had tried more of what they offer - suspect that will come the next time we stay in the area!!

An Asian bakery right across from H-Mart. I never really frequented Asian bakeries as a kid, but since a couple years ago I've been going to 85 degrees a lot and now I'm hooked. There's just something about a slight Asian twist on western food that runs the fine line between disgusting and surprisingly tasty. This place was kinda meh all the way around. This might have been due to the time that my aunt and I visited. The selection was pretty weak and nothing was fresh. My aunt thought is was weird that the cashier didn't take American coins. Is that weird? I wouldn't know. My Canadian aunt said that being so close to the border coins are no big deal. But whatevs. Yes I know that the review of food here was slightly lacking, but there really wasn't much to say. I thought it was surprisingly funny that I spotted sprinkles cupcake mix in the shop, seeing as how I'm local to Sprinkles cupcakes back home. If anyone is ever tempted to buy it, my suggestion is to don't do it. The home made ones never taste the same as the actual location. Last note: If I knew that this place didn't have a yelp while I was there I would have taken pictures. credits to the original photographer.

We took a bite before snapping this pic. So light and lovely!

Just tried the sweet potato cake today & it was delightful. Light, subtle, creamy & not sugary. Quite a sophisticated little slice that tastes like something you'd pay big bucks for in Vancouver. They sell whole versions of this for around $35.

While their pastries/cakes are on the pricier side, the quality was really good. The dark chocolate raspberry mousse ($8.25) was decadent and rich without being overly sweet and honestly their canele tasted pretty much like the one I had in France! The matcha latte here (~$5.50) also was better (less milky and had a stronger matcha flavour) than some other cafes in the area. Overall, a pretty solid cafe in the Coquitlam area though you might need to check ahead for pastry availability.

My favorite is Soboro chestnut cube, sweet potato cube, Shio pan, mugwort mochi bun, mochi mochi bread and roll cakes. Cube breads are excellent items. Dough is very soft and fillings are great, especially Soboro chestnut cube's small chestnut pieces and crunchy soboro topping makes it addictive. Shio pan is very buttery , one of the best in town. I also liked Mochi mochi bread which had very chewy texture like mochi, but this time, I felt the one I had in the past tasted better. However, Rich bread was very good. The dough is similar to brioche with very rich, buttery flavor. This one is definitely better than before. Overall, I really liked their products. I've long heard about Korean salt bread and had been wanting to try. Maison mori offered a couple of salt bread selections. I didn't know which to get so I asked for recommendations. The staff wasn't helpful at all. "They're all good." She also said the bread is Korean style bread that is popular in Korea. Then I asked why use the Japanese word for salt, i.e. "shio". She then responded that the bread is Japanese style. Like, which is it? Korean or Japanese? After consulting Gemini AI, the two styles are fundamentally the same but the texture is different. Regardless of Japanese or Korean style, I got the original and black (squid ink). I honestly don't see what the hype is. It's essentially just butter roll with salt sprinkled on top. Lol.

Service is still good and my favourite baked goods still taste similar as before but in smaller portion now. That is the reality when we are facing inflation. One suggestion I told the serving clerk to perhaps put a sign to separate freshly baked ( such) cookies from days old products. I went there on a Tuesday morning around 10 am and I bought a pack of shortbread cookies. I took it to the car and my husband tried one right away and found the supposedly crisp cookies were quite soft. He said these were not freshly baked. So I went right back to the bakery and told them what my husband said. The manager agreed to give me back the refund and the serving clerk told me the fresh cookies will be ready in late afternoon and the one I bought was baked over the weekend. I believe it is important for the bakery to separate the daily baked fresh products from the rest.

The stop at the bakery had been placed high on my to-do shopping list, and provided the opportunity for daughter and I to browse, and get a good first look inside the bakery, and check out the various products. I purchased an 'Apricot Torte' (colourfully-decorated, white cake, with an apricot brandy flavouring), and a 'Blueberry Ring' (so appealing, large, 'fruity' pastry). Service was friendly and cordial, and the bakery products nicely-displayed and reasonably priced. 'Mundy Park Bakery' provided some great-looking bakery goodies to celebrate my lady's birthday 'weekend'. Looking forward to the first unveilings, and tastes coming up later today! p.s. Unfortunately, its quite hard to find marzipan in the lower mainland. So you can imagine that I was quite excited when I saw they had one on the menu. At first glance the chocolate drizzle on top looked too little, but it was just the right amount. The all butter croissant was perfectly flaky. I heated mine up in the toaster oven for a few mins. The amount of filling that was inside amazed me. However, it would have been more enjoyable if it was more spread out, instead of a "log" of filling. Also, after warming up the pastry, the bottom was extremely oily. So oily that it was literally dripping. The meringue on the Lemon Meringue Bar was a bit deflated and dry. The lemon flavor wasn't overly powerful. The Mango Bar, mango flavor was very mild. I would have liked to taste something a bit more prominent. Also, I didnt like thay they added so much sugar to the Graham Cracker crust. The Spumoni Bar tasted mostly of coconut, but the bar was super flavorful and tasty. The Cheesy Bar cheesecake texture was nice and light. The Fruity Bar was very tasty. Although I wouldn't say that it tasted like strawberry. I liked the crunchy texture from the white chocolate covered rice krispies. I liked the Matcha it could have used a touch more matcha, but I know not everyone likes a super strong matcha flavor. My top picks would be SpumoniBar, Matcha, and Fruity Bar. However, I feel that all of the bars could use more flavor. Additionally, I would like to note the fantastic customer service that I received. I had a dog with me and she has major separation anxiety. One of the staff members noticed us and was kind enough to offer to watch the dog while I quickly ordered inside. I would rate the croissants 4.5 stars, the bars 3.8 stars and the customer service 5 stars.
