The first time I tried this spot it was through Delivery. I didn't know what to expect but the food was amazing. I had the spicy tostada with grilled chicken. I went back a couple more times to try the rest of the menu and it didn't disappoint. The food here is a bit similar to what they have at pollo loco but bigger portions and better marinated. The grilled and shredded chicken is really good, great with the garlic butter. The rice and beans are really flavorful. The employees have always been good to us, I haven't had a bad experience. The place is on the smaller side so I like sitting outside. It's on the back side of the shopping center, just find the big 5 and it's a couple of doors down. If you're into grilled chicken and that style of Mexican food but you're sick of places like pollo loco, give this place a shot. It's a few dollars more but worth every penny. The manager Moe contacted me immediately after my review and assured me that the dry chicken isn't their standard and offered me a coupon to try again the same meal. I would say for customer service alone this is the best customer service I've ever encountered for the past 4 months since Covid 19 started. I would say it is amazing to see this local business is trying their best to still keep up with their standard regardless the hardship of restaurant business during this pandemic. It's almost hidden inside a plaza of randomness and you might miss it but take your time and find it it's there. Right next to another food establishment. The space isn't that large inside but they do have seating outside where you can eat and enjoy your meal. Inside you can see your food being prepared because it's non stop movement, everyone is hustling to crank out those orders and if you stand and pay attention you'll see the fast pace. Kinda cool because you know every order is a priority. Besides that the inside doesn't have to much to offer simple soda machine I think a restroom if I'm not mistaken. I ordered a giant burrito, no beans , no pico, grilled chicken, cheese, rice, and sauce. To get extra cheese ya gotta either call or order at the front because anything extra isn't available on the online menu . The chips were yesterday's chips unfortunately, I don't know for sure but they weren't very fresh. They were one step away from being completely stale. I couldn't eat anymore after a couple. The burrito even though I ordered extra cheese didn't have extra cheese lol. The rice had flavor as of a Mexican restaurant which is a great authentic taste, some of the chicken was two hard to chew had to take it out as if I got the overdone or old pieces. Flavor really isn't there until you add the fire roasted garlic sauce. When you add that to the burrito now we're talking immediately flavor, spice and freshness. The garlic lemon flavor on the chicken is so delicious and the meat itself is very juicy. The garlic mashed potatoes are flavorful and the rice is nice & fluffy. The pinto beans are also delicious--not spicy so those that are sensitive to that will like it versus the other charbroiled chicken place. The way they prepare the chicken is so mouthwatering, best flavor in my opinion is the lemon pepper chicken. The sides are also very good and a healthy portion, the corn on the cob is my favorite, it has a charred smoky taste and pairs well with butter and sour cream! It's a bit on the greasy side so I'd suggest having more napkins than needed, I tend to wipe the greasier pieces down as that may lead to stomach pain down the line. Try it! I have ordered Charo chicken catering a handful of times and the delivery is always prompt, the delivery gentleman is always in a great mood, and the food is always hot and delicious. I like their chicken here better than El Pollo Loco. It's much flavorful and a bit tangy. The salsa bar on the other hand need more items. It's missing the guacamole salsa which I enjoy from El Pollo Loco. But this location is easily accessible and surrounded with other establishment around so you can easily find parking as it is located in a big plaza. UPDATE: Went to Charo Chicken in Seal Beach last night on the way to the pier -- after my last experience, the company reached out and offered a complimentary meal and an invitation to give Charo another try. This time I ordered a Chicken Bowl and it was really delicious -- plenty of grilled chicken, rice, beans and pico de gallo. Super filling and great flavor! I also ordered a brownie and it was super fresh and soft. This experience was much better and thank you to management for the complimentary meal. If you're going to Charo I would recommend any of the specials -- they all come with rice and beans, which are great. ******* So bummed about my last visit. I was wanting to get chicken from somewhere other than El Pollo Loco and I remembered going to Charo Chicken once and liking it. The prices are so much higher than El Pollo Loco and it totally doesn't warrant it. I bought the 2-piece chicken meal -- big mistake. Making it a meal (adding one side) increased the price by $2.50, so I believe it was $8.50 something without a drink. So the meal came out to $10+ for chicken, mashed potatoes and flour tortillas that were rolled so right they were fused together into one thick tortilla. So I selected mashed potatoes because I love them at El Pollo Loco and prefer mashed over fries. When I got my plate I was so disappointed! An additional $2.50 for instant, boxed mashed potatoes with no gravy, no nothing. Bland, cheap and boring, not to mention they were lukewarm. But it's the principles I'm fighting for. Here is my review of an establishment that I used to enjoy eating at. Last time I was here was 23 years ago. I remember the Chicken portions were much meatier. I remember ordering the breast, leg, and thigh with two sides meal; Spanish rice and Black beans, With a small drink "To Go". But instead I got a "WEAK" wing and "PUNY" leg and two sides in plastic containers and a small drink. I believe the person I had ordered from really did not listen or pay attention to what I wanted. I found all this out as soon as I got home. Funny, sometimes you get "Wacked" after ordering food at a drive-thru when leaving with missing items but now I just got "Wacked" walking out for food to go that I walked from, lol. I should've checked the receipt there to make sure I received everything and the correct order, but oh well... Anyways, the food was mediocre. The Spanish rice was not as tasty as I remember. The Black beans was not rich in flavor either and the Horchata was weak and very little, if any, hint of cinnamon in taste. BTW, AM/PM mini gas mart has a better tasting Horchata, lol. And The Flour tortillas was also weak..it didn't taste fresh like El pollo loco's Now I see and had tasted the BIG difference... El Pollo Loco from now on to get my Fix for chicken!
