My cousins and I were craving tripas tacos and decided to pick up some here, since one of my cousins like it here. We ordered eight tripas tacos (and asked for extra crispy, how we like it), a quesadilla, and the Nachos Chapala with tripas. The tripas tacos are pretty pricey at $3.99 each. We were so excited, and when we got home, we found out they did not give us tacos with tripas, they were with shredded chicken. We were very disappointed. The chicken was so dry; I struggled to finish one taco. I did not enjoy it. We were all hungry, but no one ate more than one taco. I came here because I've been craving tacos. This restaurant is very small. There's like 6 tables so it's not meant to come here with many people. Parking is also very limited! I had to park on a side street which I wasn't too happy about. The menu selections are a basic menu with a few items. Specialty here I believe are the tacos. They were delicious and portions were big. Prices here though are a bit high for Mexican food. Especially a place that can't accommodate too many people. I will come back though and try something else. For now I say it's 3 stars because I believe we must try a restaurant more than once for a final say. read more

Long Beach has many great places for Mexican Food. Tacos Chapala has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. They have been so consistent over the years. Their salsas are without question some of the most delicious in town. Fight me. I literally wake up thinking about their red salsa regularly. Their wet burrito is insane. An absolute must try. I'm not a huge meat eater, so I get their vegetarian wet burrito, but I do enjoy their chicken tacos. Staff is very friendly, fast, and eager to cook for you. Very small dining room. I always do take out but have dined in a few times, which is the only thing I don't like about Tacos Chapala. Chapala is your typical hole in the wall mexican joint. It has good meat and good salsa. The problem I have with this place is the language barrier. If you say 5 they will put 2 if you say 6 they will put 3. If you don't want beans, it's having beans. They don't read the tickets and look at details on the orders. The restaurant is loud and have fans blowing around and it's really hot in there. No matter how clear and loud I speak my order is not right. I do feel it is a English thing. On a Tuesday I ordered 8 tacos and got 3 and the price was 10$ for 3 tacos. The prices are outrageous here. As inflation increases the quality needs to increase with it. cinco de mayo 2020 falls on taco tuesday! we made last minute plans to get some mexican food. we tried to call ahead with no luck but pulled up to the spot + were relieved to find the restaurant open. there was a bit of a wait outside the door but it was about 3-4 people ahead of us - social distancing with masks - so it only appeared like it was a long wait. i got the 2 taco combo with carne asada and no rice. the hubs got the pastor burrito. i was thoroughly satisfied. we enjoy the fact that they offer limes and radishes with their take-out. i've been disappointed from other restaurants when i need a lime + it's not in the bag! the hubs enjoyed the burrito, but felt like he's had better. i thought my tacos, salsa, beans, lime were all great! read more

To be fair I Really have only ever come here on Tuesday for, yep, you guessed it; Taco's. But I think this this will be my last trip. All tacos used to be $1.25, which is a reasonable price for street tacos with some flavor. For some unknown reason, carne asada tacos are now $2, while chicken and pork tacos are $1.25. I ordered 5 tacos not knowing about the price change, and that was $10, when it used to be 1/3 of that price. Then a med size Horchata for $1.90. Voila $13. When the whole lunch should've been less than $10. On top of all this change, carne asada was dry and lacked the flavor it used to have. The flour tacos themselves were a bit hard, but the only saving Grace was the portions were a bit bigger, salsa is great and they come with sauteed onion's and Serrano peppers, upon request. However, great salsas and sauteed onion's and Serrano's aren't going to be enough to bring me back to Taco's Chapala. The tacos used to be amazing. Now there's no ama- or - zing. read more

The presentation is decidedly street tacos, with the emphasis on flavor of the protein. Simple but effective garnish of cilantro, onion, lime and the option for hot sauce. Bonus points for the dual tortillas used per taco to hold up against the meat. My go-to taco place! They have an awesome Taco Tuesday deal ($1.25/taco for various meats) and I always gets carnitas. The meat is so tender and their tortillas have that really nice corny taste. There's usually a wait if you come around dinner time since the place gets packed. But it's not too bad considering how fast they actually prepare the food! My only "complaint" is the small parking lot since they share the space with other businesses but there's a couple of spots right on the street & I've usually timed it right to where someone else was leaving just as I was pulling in.
