Food price / quality (value) rating 8.5. The atmosphere is a reclaimed old time movie theater decorated with movie memorabilia, with several TV's for sports fans. A typical pub menu and draught beer selection. We sat at the bar, and split a West Coast Burger. The burger was fine, but could have used a little Worcestershire or something for a little additional flavor. The fries were cooked extra well done as requested, which is always a good sign. Service by Crystal, our bartender, was great, and she had no problem giving us a taste of a draught beer before choosing. We happened to stop by here on Father's Day in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday, so it was not real busy, but it appears that the place is a really good "party bar". We had a great experience at Charlie O's. We stopped in on a whim and it was so worth it! We will be back. We were sat immediately and service was fast. We went on a Friday night and I would've expected it to be busier. The server was nice and attentive. We started with the Caesar salad and it was good to share. We each ordered burgers and they were excellent. We got the same burger and both were cooked perfectly and tasted great. I had tater tot's which were yummy and he had sweet potato fries that seemed freshly made. The bar area was full which was nice to see! The ambiance was clean and fun. The movie posters and decor were cute. The room is open so I would expect is can get pretty loud. Overall we had a very positive experience and will make this a stop again. read more

Sorry no pictures. Came here after work with co workers for a going away. Service was a little slow. Got busier thru the evening. Came at 4pm. The food was good. Got the wedge salad and loaded tots (cheese, bacon, and gravy on the side). The entrance is a little hidden. It's off to the side, left and back. There was a side door to a patio. There is parking to the right side and back maybe? It was a little confusing. There are video games and unisex single bathrooms. Nice open bar area. I asked for a beer/drink menu and I got a weird look and was told what you see is what we have. Wow! Sorry not sorry most places have drink menus. I understand it's a hometown bar. read more

Excellent Wednesday wings! I liked the flow of the place, everything kept moving and we didn't wait a long time for anything. I was surprised at how small the place was, but we were seated quickly & the waitstaff is friendly. I had the sweet&spicy garlic wings, loved them with the orings. Im not ususlly a fried food person, but for a cheat or a treat nite, it was worth it. IM ALSO ONE OF THOSE PUMPKIN EVERYTHING KIND A GIRL, THE PUMPKIN MARTINI WAS KICK ASS. Hit or miss. It really depends on which server you get. We've learned to only come when our one waitress is working. So far everything we've had when she's been working has been excellent. However there have been times when we went in & she was not working & it was the worst experience. When we have ordered take away & said that we would wait at the bar for the food, 50 minutes later still no food, I have had to hunt down our server on one occasion she said that she didn't know but that she'd check. Needless to say that the food was stone cold. Yet when we stand around at the front door, we get our food in 20 minutes or less & it's piping hot. Lesson learned, don't wait for your food at the bar, you'll be forgotten by your server. You have to stay right in front of them so they don't forget you. We've also sat down to eat & have waited 20 minutes for our server to get us water! It wasn't even busy, the place was not even close to half capacity. After waiting even longer & asking 3 more times for our water, I had to ask a different server for some water, which came out in 30 seconds. Like I said, hit or miss, it all depends on which server you get. Overall a nice little restaurant, with interesting classic movie decor, but unfortunately all the tvs just play sports. If you wanna go to a bar a sports bar, maybe it will suffice. We went for a birthday dinner as friends wanted to go. for four of us the bill was over $200 and with the tip was 230. I never have felt so ripped off. I guess the age of pride in your burgers is gone. They called them a smashed burger because they think it's chic. It's to get over the fact that they're charging $14.50 for a hamburger that is pushing it at 4 ounces and smashed to make it look big. Well done and dry tasting. You couldn't get it other than well it's too. thin. They couldn't get together to figure out what sautéed onions were for a topping. It was sent out with the raw onion that was thicker than the hamburger. Lol lol. The appetizers were OK but nothing to write home about. I actually wanted to get sick when I looked at this bill. I cannot believe restaurants have come to this point. I would suggest anyone who wants quality food for a decent price may want to consider a diner before they would consider before a place like this. I really do wish that the world would be open to forcing refunds because the only thing I could do with the hamburger was bring it Home for my pup as a mini treat. Shame on them! In one word, AMAZING! My husband and I were vacationing in the Hudson Valley and searched yelp for the best burger in the area where we were staying. The top entry was Charlie O's. It was the best decision we'd made all week. The medium wings were great, the light breading was crunchy and the chicken very tasty. We also tried the Mac & cheese which was very good but not the best I've ever had--it's a huge portion so get ready to share it or make it your dinner. The burger was so good, I loved the onion straws and the fries were fantastic. I have no idea what they season them with but I could eat them all day! The fish and chips served with cole slaw was also equally great. The biggest hit was the finale, The Root Beer Float made with root beer vodka, root beer and vanilla ice cream. The best root beer float ever. Charlie O's is a must visit when any where near Red Hook, highly recommended! read more

Go on wing night! It's a good deal and it's a great night for some buddies. I had the Peanut Butter and Jelly Wings. It was a risk I was willing to take and it paid off. You can only get each flavor in tens. So I recommend going with friends and sharing. They open up the back of the restaurant if it is warm out. BEWARE: Wing night does not come into effect if you get take out. Their "Cut of the Day" Steak was awesome too! If you want an healthier alternative to wings, I also recommend the Triple Decker Club. The hot wings are great too (not crazy hot). The volcanic wings are inedible, inhumanly hot. The fries are good too. Just come! Only complaint is that the service isn't great. The wait isn't long, it's just the servers rarely have checked in on us during our time at Charlie O's. Still, come! read more

Well, I just gave it one last "go" and although I still wasn't seeing too much change with the way the fries went, even after I had them take off the seasoning to the fries on my last go-ahead last night, I actually can say it's okay. Due to the size, I couldn't finish the burger and all the fries, and with the juiciness of the burger and the juicy condiments (bbq sauce oozing out when I had to place the top to the burger and tomato and lettuce on the burger itself), I can still see it as something worthwhile to try. I also asked for the onion straws to-go, but that request wasn't honored and was brought to me to eat on the side instead! (Do I have to bring my own to-go container with me the next time?) It was better last night, but very packed and very loud. I ended up watching most of the other patrons as I waited for my food last night, and there seemed to not have been one empty table without someone at it throughout the time I was there (I was probably the quickest eater there, at about 30 minutes.) I mean, I could have watched the huge-screen TV ahead of me which showed a boxing match, or I was able to catch glimpses of the New York Yankee pre-game on the other two slightly smaller screens...both choices weren't in full-agreement, but I could stand the Yankee game (being the Yankee fan I am). After signing the credit card receipt, I had to wait on my waitress to come and take the slip (I had tipped them), and no matter who I attempted to give my slip to, all waiters barked at me to wait until my waitress came. My waitress came seconds before I was ready but had something else to do in the back, and the duties were handed to some other waitress. Is this seriously how you treat customers? I know service is of the utmost importance (I get it, I'm an Uber driver and service is near-top importance) but I give service with a smile: something this place lacked! If I would have known they were going to bark about who's taking the signed receipt "check", I potentially would have withheld the cash tip. read more

We went here because we were starving and it was on the way to our destination. We read the mediocre reviews and agree with them. We shared the loaded fries appetizer. It was pretty good, although it's hard to mess up fries. I ordered the fish and chips, and both items were over-fried and too dark, so the fish was dry. My husband had the bratwurst and said it was fine. Portions were well sized and the prices are decent, but I wouldn't go back if I was in the area. So, Charlie O's has been open awhile now, and only one review? I'm shocked! Charlie O's is a unique place-it's a bar and grill built into an old movie theater. It gives the interior a very artistic and old-fashioned touch. I really like that they kept the old movie posters on the walls too. Someone has a good eye for decorating! The high, vaulted ceilings make the space seem bigger. It's a very unique spot for a restaurant. They have a nice, decent bar selection. I think it's funny they have twisted tea pints for $3. Good idea, guys! Way to get the ladies in here. They also have a nice selection of high and middle shelf liquors, and they have a nice rotation of bands that play here on weekends. The high ceilings aren't exactly good for live music though, it's a bit too echo-ey. But maybe that's part of the charm. I'm a big fan of the outdoor patio they added, it's a great hangout for summer nights. Now onto the food. They have AMAZING burgers-they are customizable, so you can basically put whatever you want on them. They also have excellent mac and cheese-some of the best I've ever had in fact. I also really like their nachos; they're huge! They were voted "the best wings in the Hudson Valley". They ARE very good. The skin is crispy and flakey, and not overcooked. The sauces have a nice balance between flavor and spice. Although their Volcanic flavor-NEVER AGAIN. Way too much. My mouth was on fire for 20 minutes. It literally felt like the inside of my mouth and lips were sunburned, and it was not a pleasant experience. So, I'm not trying that one again. We've been coming here, on average, once a month for the past four years, so I'd say a review is long overdue! My husband **loves** chicken wings - and they're one of the best items on the menu. If you're craving classic buffalo wings, this is the place. I've been to the famous wing places in Buffalo, NY, and I'd say Charlie O's wings are as good if not better. The burgers are good, but can be a bit greasy, as can the fries. It's obvious that sometimes the fries have been sitting around a bit and then put back in the fryer - they are very heavy and laden with oil. When you get a fresh batch, though, they're great. The reuben is excellent, and the souvlaki sandwich is pretty good. The buffalo shrimp are tasty, but a very stingy portion. The fried calamari appetizer, though, is more than enough for two to share. The salad that come with some of the entrees is made with quality ingredients. You're NOT going to get a wilted and boring iceberg lettuce salad here! Daily specials can be very good. Check the chalkboard as you enter though since the servers almost never mention them. The seafood pasta (though slightly overcooked), the corned beef and cabbage (available on a recent visit) and the flounder stuffed with seafood (a frequent special) have all been tasty, and the portions -- especially for the latter two -- ridiculously generous. Downsides: not a pretty place, not someplace you'd take a date to impress, but if you want casual in a relaxed atmosphere as you watch sports, this is for you. Note that it can also get VERY LOUD in here, as at our most recent visit, so good for a group; not for anyone wanting a peaceful dinner. The service ranges from good to outstanding. Ellen is flawless. Only once or twice have we had subpar service. The guy who seats everyone is always friendly and super efficient). The owner (co-owner?) is also pleasant. I have lived in Red Hook for almost 4 years and I have just tried Charlie O's. And I can say I am mad I never ate here before. We ordered a shrimp po boy, a side of macaroni salad and Rocky's Red Hook. Both items came with amazing homemade sauces. Firecracker for the po boy and horseradish sauce for the Rocky. Both were amazing. The French fries were great too! Portions were large. Definitely will be frequenting this restaurant!!! read more

Being from Buffalo I am very critical about my wings. And I love the wings at Charlie O's. I tend to eat at the bar, watch a game have a beer and wings this place is great. Their service is kind of poor. I've been there when it's busy and I've been there when it's 5 people at the bar. When it's busy you kind of have to help yourself, and when it's slow you'd be better off texting your order because that may be the only way they would notice. read more

As a part of our yearly trips up to Red Hook from the city for my doctor's appointment, we now make it a tradition to go exploring in the village and find a nice place to have lunch. Last year, we went to the Village Diner and didn't have a very good experience there, check out my review on that and you'll know what I mean. This year, we found Charlie O's on Yelp and saw that it had decent reviews so we decided to try it out! It's conveniently located on Route 199 in the village next to other business. I believe it is built inside of an old movie theater, so the ambiance is very unique. I'm gluten and dairy free, and I was very pleased that they were able to accommodate my allergies. I had a salad with lettuce, tomato, carrots, and onions. Since there was no gluten free hamburger bun, I just had the meat with the toppings on top of it. The food was excellent! The burger was cooked to perfection and the salad was very good. Our waitress, Michelle, was excellent. She was very kind and kept coming back to our table to make sure everything was OK. I have to start out with we had a very large group 22 people. Staff was very accommodating for a large group. The nice part with a large group is that we may have ordered one of everything on the menu. Food was good and came out within a resonable amount of time. nachos were good and better than the average bar type with good chips and real cheese. for the main course I had the pulled pork platter. Plenty of food withe great flavor and toasted buns. My only disappointment was the cole slaw, made fresh yes but in my opinion didn't taste seasoned. Time for the happy ending...brownie with killer chocolate Jane's homemade ice cream. All in all better than the average bar food and worth stopping for a bite to eat. I ordered a burger and fries and fries were so over cooked my boyfriend ordered Shepard's pie and it had no taste. We also tried to access their WiFi because we noticed that there was a guest WiFi.
