We ordered a Margherita pizza with half a side of sausage. It was about the right amount for myself and my daughter to share. It was pretty good, thin crust, good dough. Could have had bit more char on the crust and base to help hold everything together as it was a bit too wet. I saw a reviewer here say it was as good or better than new haven pizza but having grown up in the next town over from new haven, I will say that this is better than average pizza but not really close to new haven-level. We took a drive to gorgeous Rhinebeck for a nice walk and decided to try Posto since the reviews were really good. The pizzeria is nestled at the end of a cobblestone path with many small shops around it. It also has outdoor sitting. We were seated immediately and we were offered the best crusted bread with some oil to deep. The kids and my mom wanted more! We ordered the Mediterranean salad ($17) the Cesar ($17) and three margaritas (26). It was 5 of us and we devoured the salads. They were delicious and perfectly seasoned. The pizzas were probably one of the best I had! The sauce was sweet, the cheese was a combination of fresh and grated mozzarella which I liked that since it covered the whole pie. Portnoy undersold this place. This is a mid to high 9 at minimum! Super fast and courteous service. Plenty of seating indoors and outside in a courtyard. Speaking of courtyard, this place is off the main street, when you see an overhang between two buildings that says "Courtyard", make your way through to pizza greatness. Talked to the chef/owner for a bit, great convo about Pizza spots we have all tried across the NY / NJ area (always great to calibrate with Pizza wizards)! Learned a lot about their style too- wood fired but not your double zero, soft and chewy dough/crust that ends up making people leave it behind (side note, in my mind if you don't eat the whole slice, it was not a great pie). Back to the topic: they use American flour so it has a little bite but also can get crispy and hold itself together. I personally love a tiny bit of char on my crust and not on the cheese- this place delivers! Great people, great food. Our first time in Kingston and saw this on yelp! It's a cute place but not very spacious if you go during busy times. Do not drink the tap water - it tasted horrible like sewage water. So we ordered a bottle of their aqua panna which tasted like water (nothing amazing just water - at least not like their tap). We also got a diet soda which comes in the tiny 8oz glass bottles; if you get a regular coke they come in the larger glass bottles but for diet it only comes in this small one. We got the arugula salad (9/10) - I don't usually like fruits in my salads but the apple slices were the perfect touch to lessen the sourness of the vinaigrette - it was a great salad and a good portion for the table with pizza or by itself for one; note it has goat cheese which I love but some may not. The Margherita pizza with pepperoni (10/10) is what I would go to order again for pizza; even without the pepperoni. We also got the Ponte vecchio (7/10) pizza which has no tomato sauce and mostly has ricotta instead - I didn't really like this as it was very heavy on the bacon and wasn't as clean tasting as the Margherita and was on the heavy side but for those who love bacon, it may be one to consider. Note that the pizzas are not a usual large size but is more for a single person (it is a little bigger than a usual individual pie size) if this was all they were eating. For a family of 5 where 3 were kids under 11yrs - 2 pies and the salad was just the perfect amount. read more

We enjoyed a quiet lunch at Pizzeria Posto. It is kind of hard to find if you're not familiar with Rhinebeck. It shows an address on Market St but you need to enter an alley to a little courtyard shopping area, not visible from the street. If it were, I think the place would be full, that's how cozy and inviting the space is. My daughter and I shared the Mediterranean Salad, featuring roasted eggplant, tomatoes, greens and ricotta salita, a Margarita pizza and two glasses of red wine. Everything was made to order, and the salad in particular was fantastic and came with bread and olive oil. The pizza was just what we hoped. I enjoyed watching pizzas being made in a brick oven in the dining room. Afterwards we went two doors over to Bread Alone for a little bite of dessert and coffee. In a very chill courtyard with ample free town parking. We are greeted by the lovely wife of the chef, seated promptly, and a waiter is over filling our water glasses just as we settle in. We The Mama Mia and the Margherita as well as a spinach salad. The salad came first and was excellent- really fresh greens, dressed, but not over-dressed if you know what I mean. The pizzas arrived and I dug into the Mama Mia- oh the crust, the combination of sautéed sweet onion and some epic sausage. I was feeling it- that warm glow when you've taken a shot in the dark and hit. Now I'm from the Boston area, so kinda in enemy territory. I don't want to compliment anything from New York. Sorry, if you saw the Red Sox lose series after series against those arrogant Yankees you'd understand. Anyway that gives you some context for what I have to say next. By the way we have some serious old-school pizza in Boston, so I know what I'm talking about. To get back to the review, I tried the Margherita next. I was absolutely gobsmacked. It was like meeting an old old friend you'd lost touch with when you moved away. But my god, the sauce. I'm crying that I don't have some right frikkin' now. The crust- words fail me. The cheese, the pepperoni- this was the pizza of my childhood, but better- fresh ingredients, sauce made onsite fresh never canned. It was a sublime slice, and a look into the mind behind it. Pizzeria Posto is an excellent option for pizza or salad in the charming village of Rhinebeck. We had initially ordered pizza for take out since we wanted to try it out passing through the area, but wound up dining in since it was in such a charming plaza. The friendly staff were more than happy to accommodate us. The margherita pizza (4.5/5) was delicious. It was a neopolitan style pizza and the ingredients were highly quality. The crust was cooked to chewy perfection, with sauce made of san marzano tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella, with basil leaves for a little bit of flavor accent. Although I wasn't a huge fan of the basil leaves and this wasn't my favorite style of pizza, I was impressed with the great fresh ingredients/flavor such that I'd recommend Pizzeria Posto to others. The wood fired crust is simply delicious and at a quality level you'd be hard pressed to find outside of Italy. The owner/chef thanked us on the way out and seemed genuinely appreciative of our business, so I'm happy to round up and give them one of my rare 5-star pizza reviews. These are Neapolitan style pizzas. If you want pineapple or jalapenos or chicken on your pizza, this is not your spot. If you want a cauliflower crust, you're going to be disappointed. They have perfected a small collection of pies. The ingredients are fresh and high quality. North of New Rochelle and west of New Haven, you're going to have a hard time finding a better crust. The crunch, the char, the chew, the thinness, the flavor; perfect on both pies we ordered. And they have been that consistent every time we have visited. I wish they had a more robust wine selection and more engaged service. But I keep coming back to how consistently good their pizza is. Wow. As a born and raised local, I cannot believe that I have not heard of this pizzeria sooner. I heard of this place via word of mouth and a friend posting his meal on social media. I thought, that looks amazing. Well, going in person did not disappoint. The shop is in the heart of Rhinebeck, easy parking and conveniently located. Service was very friendly, and it is amazing to have seen the owner making the pizzas practically right in front of our table. Service was quick, and we received our order of three pies within about 5-10 minutes. I must say, these were the most beautiful pizza pies I've ever seen. Was in Rhinebeck for the day, and we are always on the lookout for excellent pizza. Had good reviews already, so that was encouraging. We were seated right near the pizza making station, and was a very chill relaxed vibe. We met Patrick the owner shorty after and he was chatty and super nice, and knowledgable. We ordered a salad w grilled eggplant and greens. Great dressing. Then onto the Pizza, we orderd the margarita, and was immediately impressed by the look, and smell!!! The pie was expertly cooked, good char and crisp, but not burnt, the cheese was melted perfectly. Patrick mentioned they use 3 cheeses actually, and was one of the most flavorful Neo pies we have tried, and there has been many. Look forward to coming back, and trying more of the menu. The dough was a little more crisp than the traditional Margherita and that had me on my first bite. Patrick was open to discussing his dough with me and even gave me a few tips. Stopped by Patrick's place this past Friday while shopping the stores in Rhinebeck. Had a wonderful pie from the wood-fired oven and a delicious salad along with some wine. We wanted something light, so this looked like the place. The best way to know a place can make pizza is try the simplest pie and taste the flavors from the dough, cheese and sauce. We did the Grana Padano - basically a tomato pie with grated cheese. It was excellent - thin with a nice char on the bottom and a bit on the crust. Light and delicate with excellent flavor from the fresh tomato and cheese and it comes with a good 'crunch'. If you want a dozen toppings on your pie, go somewhere else. This is an authentic pie in the Roman / Napoli style ... Not meant to have everything under the sun laid on top - it just messes up a great pie. Spend a few $$ and enjoy a good pie - other than NYC, CT and a few places in Westchester County, you won't find pies like this. read more

I've been participating in a chat with some Yelp Albany friends on pizza. In the thread's original post, a website, newyorkupstate.com, compiled a list of their 25 best pizzerias in "upstate" New York, upstate being defined as any place north and west of Westchester and Rockland counties. The rankings were based on Yelp reviews. Pizzeria Posto was at the top of the list, and I immediately noticed it is the pizzeria on the list which is the shortest drive from where I live, yet I'd never been there. A last-minute change of dinner plans last night led us to Pizzeria Posto as our alternate choice. After last night, it won't be relegated to "alternate choice" any longer. The hype is real. It starts simply, with some bread and a really fruity olive oil. I think a good quality balsamic vinegar would have added to the taste, but I was quite content with the olive oil. Meals here will focus primarily on 3 things: salad, pizza, and wine (there are a few beers available too). For a really good experience, you should plan on having some of each (assuming you drink wine, of course), because all the choices really complement each other. The salads are as pleasing to look at as they are to eat. And then there's the pizza. The aroma of our Margherita pizza made it to the table before the pizza actually did, and I was ready to give it 7 stars just on that. In a word, "Wow!" The wine we chose, Rapitala Campo Reale Nero D'Avola, with its complex berry and clove flavors, put my taste buds in a positive feedback loop when alternating sips between it and the salad and pizza. Service was great, we were greeted not only by our waitress but the guys behind the counter making the pizzas, and we were checked on often. A must visit every time we're in Upstate! The staff are all attentive and friendly! Everything tastes so fresh. The basil blew me away (that's how good everything is). You can see the oven the pizza is cooked in. My go to starters are the Caesar salad and capresse - easy to share with friends! We split the two amongst a group of 4. The balsamic on the capresse has a sweet robust, flavor. My favorite pizza is the margarita and marino! The margarita is a classic and the marino has a nice tangy kick with the olives. read more

They specialize in Neapolitan style wood oven pizza. I found them when traveling and wanted to try and so glad I did. We had the Margherita and the Terra Bianca and both were fantastic. High quality ingredients and excellent crust. And the cook was paying attention to make sure the pie were cooked evenly.
