Charleston's is an excellent restaurant for a date night or family meal. We have been coming here for years and always enjoy our meal! The ambience is very relaxing and romantic, and the staff is always very helpful and friendly. My favorite items are the hickory burger or the chicken fried chicken, and their garden salad with the creamy garlic dressing is the perfect starter item! They sent out ice cold chicken for my son to eat to replace his old tasting trout. Then charged us $18 for a chicken strip replacement. To start off the night. Our app was spilled on the table and no offer to replace it was offered. Instead, the server asked if we would like him to pull it back up on the platter! Yuk! Ribs were okay, but even my 6 year old wouldn't eat his Mac and cheese. To top it off I am already feeling sick and just left the restaurant. First, I was ignored because I am an older woman. Sat at bar to not take a table for 1 person. Wine was just ok. Bartender was clueless on suggestions. I think his man bun was to tight!!! He never mentioned the Halibut came with rice and I order the bake potato. Ugh!! I asked for some sauce with my halibut and he didn't get that. Constantly disappointed in the experience of the servers. Jeff why are you allowing the staff to act like juveniles. Food was so delicious and service was good. I was so DISAPPOINTED that they replaced their chicken fried STEAK with chicken fried CHICKEN... it was still good but it just is not the same! We also came on a Sunday thinking kids at Free but they sadly took that away as well and the manager did come and talk to us and apologize. We were in town visiting some friends and they suggested coming here for dinner . Great choice ! It's very nice inside . Dark wood and low lighting .. it reminds me of classic restaurants back East . The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. My server was awesome, he answered all of my questions as it was the first time my family and I ate there. The croissants are made at the restaurant. You can taste and feel the airiness and fluffy texture . They put a honey-butter glaze on top. We all shared the spinach dip and cheese dip that came with thin chips, that was delicious. I ordered the chicken fried chicken that came with mash potatoes and carrots but I switched the carrots to fried okras. Overall the portions were a great size, I had to take mines home. Omg! My husband tried to surprise me with the best reviews place around, and this is where he took us for our wedding anniversary and his birthday! This was unbelievably amazing. You know when you read good reviews, sometimes you expect too much and get let down...but not here! The manager Tyler came to check on us as well and was equally amazing to chat with! Really we can't say enough about this place. The food was out of this world! My husband ordered the pork chops with beans and glazed carrots. Both were so good, one wasn't better or less than the other! I'm not even a huge carrot fan and they were the best I've had. The prime rib and pork chops were also the best either of us have ever had. We started with artichoke and spinach dip, to die for. Shared a house salad and a cup of potato soup, also to die for. Croissants? Hot fluffy and sweet. Specialty margarita? STRONG and delicious! Skeptical about the olives they put in, but immediately wished for more. We got free ice cream for his birthday and our anniversary and it was so good even for a simple freebie! Paired with a slice of key lime pie piled with home made whipped topping we couldn't even think about finishing and took home. This place was 100/10 for us. We stopped by Charleston's Restaurant due to we had won a gift card from AZ Rest Assoc. Week. So we decided to try & order a Family meal to go! We were greeted by a lovely hostess who directed us to the bar to place our go order with the Bartender. We had the greatest Bartender, friendly asked if we wanted a drink or water as we would wait for the meal. She placed our order right away for a family meal & we came back to pick it up. The meal was the the freshest & flavorful we can't stop talking about how good of a meal we have had out in awhile The Chicken Marsala ( very moist not dry ) with lots of sauce, noodles, mushrooms & of course the chicken,we also received with the order the mixed vegetables cooked to perfection with a little crunch not mushy, we choose the Caesar salad which was fresh & dressing on the side & plenty, which is a plus, & Dessert we got the Key lime pie, 2 huge pieces we split this southern girl is telling you "I have not had key lime pie like this in a long time" Amazing. The meal was flavorful, perfect & great portions, says it feeds 4-6 & it does great portions & we can't wait to go back & try something off the regular menu. read more

Servers older people - not kids - who knew what they were doing and very familiar with menu (none of the "I need to check" excuse when you ask a question a pretty straightforward question). I was unsure what to expect from Charlestons but overall it was pleasant. I placed a takeaway order for Sirloin , Dynamit shrimp and a potato. The steak was cooked alright but a little tough, Dynamit shrimp sauce was good but the shrimp were a little mushy. The potato was delicious. My order was ready when I got there and they have military discount! Service was quick and friendly and price was fair at under $30. I recommend if you're in the mood for steak and potato. read more

Charleston's is our Friday go to restaurant for a great meal and a great time. James L. is the absolute best server I have had since living here in the Mesa area for 4 years. The cocktails are perfect. My favorite is their Lemon Drop. The food is delicious and consistent. We love celebrating birthdays there. You get what you pay for. Its always very busy, so I suggest making a reservation early. We always make a res. for the 3 of us, but especially make one for larger parties. I would give Charleston's 10000 stars especially the employees. The chefs are incredible at their craft, the hostesses and servers are always very friendly. I was torn on 3 vs 4 stars. My son had Enchiladas that were fantastic. I had the Chicken Parm. and it was great. My husband got excited about the special. The Hawaiian 72 hour marinated steak. Unfortunately, they were out when he ordered. I might make sure if you have a special, you just bite the bullet and make enough to for sure last the evening. I have been going to Charleston's since I was a kid.. Nothing but great memories and this is my dads go to spot when the family gets together. I moved out of state so I was really looking forward to eating here. We were not able to make reservations, so we called again and were told by the hostess that the restaurant starts to pick up around 430. So we decided to go at 4:30 and as soon as we got there we were told it was going to be a 2 to 2 1/2 hour wait. There was 7 of us so we expected we wouldn't be accommodated immediately so we asked if it would be any quicker if we split up into two separate tables. The hostess said she couldn't guarantee the tables would be next to each other and she's waiting for a specific big table and when she pointed to the table is was a big top with people that just sat down and waiting for the rest of the their party to arrive. A female manager came to talk to us and she basically reiterated what the hostess said and didn't even make it seem like they would try to accommodate us together or even nearby. It was just a "yeah, we can't guarantee we will sit you together" Once we got sat... we were on the Opposite sides of the restaurant from each other. Yet there was a table right next to us that was open I asked the hostess is there anyway my family could sit at the table closer to us and she just said "it's reserved" and I asked did someone reserve this specific table and she just responded "I don't know" and I responded can you find out and she never came back. I decided to just let it go and sit at the table. The table next to us remained unsat for an hour.. not only that but my family at the other table was finishing their food and ours hadn't even come out and we were sat at the same time. The server apologized for the food taking a long time but not once did the manager touch our table, yet I saw her walk around asking people around us how their food was. You would think She would try to elevate the customer experience and lead by example but it was quite the opposite. Very disappointing... read more

I thought my chicken piccata was so tender until I looked down and to my horror the inside was totally raw. The waitress agreed and arranged to bring a fully cooked version and to have the manager speak to me. Ten minutes later and after my wife ate her meal I received a fully cooked version of the meal I ordered. Never did see the manager but I did get a bill for the full amount. They could have at least kicked down a fee dessert. I would have just been happy with an apology from the manager for trying to give me salmonella. Be sure and try the new rare cooed chicken just make sure you have plenty of toilet paper at home. After twenty years of patronage I guess I need to find a new place for date night. read more

Great atmosphere. Clean, welcoming. Good service. I ordered the chicken-fried chicken. Very good! Chicken was tender and crispy. Gravy had the perfect thickness and flavor. Now the carrots. The carrots. I'm not even a big carrot fan, but these are probably the best I've ever had! I had to keep my wife from stealing them all. My wife ordered the prime rib French dip, with sweet potato fries, which was also really good. We both ate every bit of food on our plates and we were stuffed, but we saw some decadent sounding bread pudding on the menu; we ordered vanilla ice cream with it. Best bread pudding I've ever had. On top of that, they had a good IPA on tap: Dragoon. It's pitiful how many restaurants don't have a good IPA on tap, so props for that! $70 all together. Food was less than okay, the best thing I had was my wine. Vegetables were over cooked, with no flavor. Burger was not made as requested and flat bread pizza was not crispy more undercooked. So we have been to Charlesron's four times and requested a table not a booth. There are empty tables but no servers for that section so you are out of luck. OK . First two times, OK. The third time we arrived for a late lunch and were eating 2:30ish. The tables around us were being aggressively cleaned while we were trying to have a nice lunch. Then the check comes and they are trying to clear the table before we finished. Today, check comes after 4 bites and asked if we will be having dessert. Then on 4 separate occasions and four different people asked if everything was ok (probably a manager) can we take the dishes...NO I am still eating ; and once again...may we clear the table ? No. Noone in that time asked if we needed our drinks refilled. The place is very nice, low lighted, all servers excellent and food always wonderful. But we are not trying to rush back to work, we want a quiet meal. You can tell as we are senior citizens. I feel as if I am being rushed out the door. read more

They brought us tea and never had to ask for refills as they made sure we had an extra glass. We ordered our food and so far so good. The birthday girl had her steak and it looked great. The other order of enchiladas was covering the plate. And then there was a mix up on my order as it was not submitted. No food for me. I made a reservation for a Wednesday night, not thinking I would really need it. They asked if it was a special occasion -- yes it was, my birthday! We got there and the place was packed. Very surprising for mid-week. We were seated quickly and served our drinks almost immediately. It took a little while for the waitress to come around, but when she did, we were ready to order (New York Strip Steak special). The booth we were in was freezing cold, and our waitress reseated us right away, no problem. Our steaks were served promptly and were perfectly done and delicious. As I have often noticed in other places, my husband's steak was quite a bit thicker than mine, and therefore juicier. Nothing new there. (The man generally pays the bill and the tip, so is often given preferential treatment. No, I'm not kidding.) We had not been served bread and butter, so we requested it. Apparently it's an "extra." Although the waitress said she would bring it right over, it never came. Our waitress seemed to have too many tables going and didn't stop back to our table until we were nearly finished, and I had been out of water for quite awhile. However, other staff had stopped by to clear plates, etc., so we didn't feel ignored. So, the food was good, the service was quick and friendly, but a few details were missing. And my birthday? They ignored it. I don't mind ignoring the birthday, but they shouldn't have asked if it wasn't going to be recognized. I waited for a few minutes for a free dessert (or something) but when it obviously wasn't coming we left. I didn't need the calories anyway! I'm not sure if I'll go back.
