Minneapolis moving services are some of the most expensive anywhere I've experienced. I hope that simply means that MN companies pay their labor well. We paid $1365 + $180 tip (optional, but come on) for a 3-man crew at $260/hr (2-hour minimum), and we obviously also provided snacks and drinks (they declined breakfast). For comparison, in San Francisco it was $250/hr for 5 men. The rate was with both the weekday discount and winter pricing. Weekend would have been $285/hr for 3 men, and $345 for 4 men. There was no trip fee. Robert, in particular was incredible; he moved a 6 drawer dresser down a tight stairwell alone. They needed to remove the front door at one point, but did so without issue. They also were happy to use our own furniture pads and plastic wrap (leftover from a cross-country move). At one point, they had to back the huge truck through the alley on icy ground, and had no problems. Also, it was easy to provide them inventory by email, and easy to reach them by phone. Lots of moving companies were annoying to contact, which is partly why we chose this one. One a few minor issues: one piece of furniture was shedding pieces of wood. I think they were reinforcements put on by previous owners. I didn't even know they were there, and it doesn't seem to have affected the furniture. They also forgot a couple of items in the yard, including a big smoker we had to move on our own. It's partly my fault, I told them we were good to go. Also, we were made to sign a lot of paperwork, and at various points it was for things like "you confirm that nothing is broken and everything has arrived" and, like, it's weeks later and I'm still unpacking, there is no way I would have known for sure. It's fine, because so far we have had no issues, but if someone did have issues it might feel like being strong-armed via contract. The guys in the truck were just doing their jobs, so it's the process that is problematic more than anything. We would use these guys again!

1st Choice Movers - our last choice…read more We called for an estimate and were told we would need four movers and two trucks. Two days before we moved, we called to confirm and let them know we needed them at our home early due to our closing appointment. We were told they would be there by 8am. First issue: Movers showed up at 11:30am and only 3 movers showed up. (apparently one called in sick and a truck broke down) Second issue: One of the three movers was completely high and as he said, "tired because it was early for him" (at 11:30a) One of the other movers was injured - he said he hit his head on our low ceiling and fell and hurt his knee. If that did happen, it happened right away in the morning because he was limping and in pain all day. We do have a lower ceiling going up the stairs... it's an old home. Third issue: The movers did not have any wraps or padding. Thankfully only one item was broken, but I did find that unnerving. Fourth Issue: The movers did not bring our boxes into the house. They put all of them in the garage. We were told it was getting "late". It was around 8p, but they were 3 1/2 hours late.... and short a mover. Fifth issue: Furniture was not put together. The movers did not put our furniture together, broke our bed and kept most of the hardware. It took 1 1/2 weeks to get the hardware back. One of the movers had the hardware for all the beds (3) in his pocket. When we asked where the hardware was, he dumped it on the floor and walked out of the room. We had to decipher which hardware went to what bed and put the beds together ourselves. Sixth issue: Getting reconciliation - We contacted the owner and the person who gave us the estimate. We were told they would bring the hardware out to us and then do "an Investigation" on the broken bed and the beds that were not put together. The owner, Shawn H., sent us an email to confirm he was coming the night before, which was 1 1/2 weeks after we moved... he did not show. One of the movers showed up in his place and was over 1 1/2 hours late due to not having a car. When he came, he didn't know why we were upset and wondered why we put the beds together. He wanted pictures. The owner did call us while the mover, John, was there. He told us to write an email to Info@1stchoicemovers.com to have an investigation done. That was the first we ever heard that someone else, other than the owner, needed to investigate. Seventh Issue: We had to keep reaching out to see what was going to happen and if there was going to be a resolution. We were asking not to pay for the high mover... at least. Three weeks after we moved, we were finally told they would pay us $500 back and it would take 5-7 days. It has been four weeks with no deposit into our account. We have reached out multiple times with no response. I called last week and just asked for some resolution. Let us know what is happening. Nothing. We were repeatedly told this was not how they do business, and they wanted to make things right. However, time and time again we have seen this is exactly how they do business. Not once have they been on time. We have been told they would make this right and it never has been. I would strongly encourage you to look for another company. 1st Choice Movers is unprofessional, does not take customer satisfaction seriously and does not finish the job they promised. Worse of all, they emailed us they would reimburse us $500 to make things right and have now ghosted us. Our move was 4/25/25 and it is now 6/12/25 with no resolution.

Pros: -1 My slot was originally at 8:30a, but with days notice I needed to start earlier, and they were able to move it up to 8am. 2- Each individual I spoke to on the phone when setting up the appointment seemed patient, was helpful, and never came off pushy like movers can (at times). 3- The 3 guys sent were overall respectful. The lead seemed to have his stuff together and knew what he was doing, the other two (who he said were newer) weren't as efficient, but again respectful. Cons: 1- Service was from 8a-11a for the equivalent of a studio. 2- They came 15mins late, the commute between the two locations should have been 15mins but ended up being 30 because they had to stop for gas. Unfortunately when they arrived a garbage truck was now blocking the loading dock so that added another 10mins, and another 5-10mins was lost because toward the end of the job I went to my car and when I returned the lead mover was just standing outside the unit because "the door was locked", which it wasn't. He just didn't use his muscle to push open. So in all, over 45mins of wasted time, which costed me. 3- When I questioned their timing, I was told it's because I had a lot of boxes. To be fair, I did, but they were mainly smaller boxes (like for shipping). If anything i think they dragged their feet to milk the time which is very unscrupulous. 4- Their failure to used a door stopper in the beginning resulted in the unit door being scratched, which one guy tried to convince me was there before . FALSE! Anyway, the damage was shared with CMM, but there was never follow-up. Ultimately, maintenance repainted it. 5- Despite boxes being labeled for the rooms they belonged in, they paid little attention. For example those for kitchen in bedroom. 6- I ended up having to help move the dresser since it wasn't placed where I requested. By the time it was realized 2/3 of guys were at the truck and lead asked if I could help. Since I was paying for the service I would have rather not, but it was easier than having to do it alone later. Perhaps I should send them an invoice. 7- Before they took off, I wanted to just to take a peak at the back of the truck to ensure nothing was left behind. The reception to that request was odd. I mean whats the big deal?! Ultimately I went and ensured. 8- In all the delays costed me and I paid about $300-$400 more than anticipated. Funny thing is the lead kept stressing the whole gratuity thing at the end. I gave them each $20 and the look I got seemed like it wasn't enough. It instantly left me wishing I had given ZERO. My last thing which is more of a suggestion, CMM should consider investing in tees or some branded merch for their staff. Having guys show up in sneaker, crocs, and street clothes really didn't provide a professional look which yes, is possible for movers.

They were also very flexible in allowing me to work around them to grab some smaller things and help out in general, to keep time/costs down. they also did a great job of packing everything into one truckload, which was not an easy task and definitely took some expertise. You could say that all that really matters is getting your stuff from one place to another in one piece, but moving can be a stressful scenario and the 'experience' of the moving company can really add or remove stress. These guys definitely provided a great experience. one last item is that they were very flexible on the boxes (which were free to use) They brought over a bunch of wardrobe boxes for us to use and we kept them for several weeks while we slowly got unpacked. they just said call us when you're done and we'll swing by to pick them up.

The guys were great and they meticulously wrapped and padded all of our things. Everything fit in one truck load. The problem was in the amount of time it took for this move. The move to our new place was literally 5 minutes down the freeway. What should have been an easy move turned into a 12 HOUR move. Of course, we paid by the hour. As the day wore on and on and on, the frustration became unbelievable. The movers were kind and courteous but we have no idea what took so long. We have used many movers in the past with even more furniture and it never came close to 12 HOURS. We did a cross-country move two years ago with a Ryder truck packed by friends who are not movers and the packing was done in 3 hours. Unpacking done upon arrival by our kids - in less than 3 hours. My husband discussed his frustration with the lead mover. He said he gave us the best deal he could and my husband informed him we had no money left to give them a tip. Obviously, we didn't budget for 12 HOURS. Think long and hard before you book a mover. Get an approximate time frame or put a limit on how much time you are willing to pay. It's the next day and we are still reeling.
