I can't speak to the actual dining experience since I've never actually sat down to eat, but for takeout it's amazing. Never more than a 10 minute minute wait for the food, and the prices are a bargain for me since I can easily get two meals out of a single entree. I have no idea how traditional (or not) the food is, but I certainly prefer it to other Thai restaurants I've tried in the area. They definitely have some more genetic and mild options for people who might not prefer Thai cuisine, but all the standard we've come to expect are there as well. But the biggest draw for me has been that if you want spicy, that's what you'll get (by request, of course). When I ask for hot at other places I usually get something that's about as spicy as Taco Bell's mild sauce, but I can always come here if I want something hot enough to clear my sinuses. read more

Why can't yelp add half stars? If they did my rating would be going from previously a 3 to a 3.5. I ordered the crispy chicken and pad thai. Remembering how spicy the food was previously I said, "1." The chicken was shatteringly crispy...each bite was yummy goodness. If only the chicken itself wasn't so dry... =( The coating alone is worth 5 stars but the chicken was worth 1 star. The pad thai was unlike any other pad thai I have ever seen before. Normally it has a reddish color to it but this one was more brown. The taste was there but my gosh it was HOT HOT HOT. Something off about this place. We were seated and waited on by a boy that was about 10 at the oldest. The atmosphere was cold and it felt like there were only people working in the back the whole time. There were several (like 4-6) tables that were unbussed for the duration of our meal; it did not feel sanitary. When asking for a chili sauce (standard at all Thai places) the lady told me I had already ordered it as hot as I could and I needed to go try it first. Let me start off by saying... this is one of my favorite Thai places in Seattle. I've gotten my food togo from this place several times, but I've NEVER experienced bad customer service. From reading the other reviewers' notes, I guess I'm lucky, or maybe they went on a bad day? Here is what I've tried here (apologies for any misspellings!): Larb Gai: Love it, but I wish it came with more chicken. Nice flavor. Pad See-ew: Nothing too special. It's delicious, but I prefer the pad kee mao. Pad Kee-mao: My favorite! Perfect amount of sweetness and a decent amount of food. Pad thai: it's good. nothing too unique. Crispy garlic chicken: As everyone said, it's pretty damn good. The only thing I would warn folks about this dish is that the flavor/crispiness is a bit overwhelming for one person. I would recommend that this dish be shared. Also, be careful when you order any dishes here with spice. The range here is definitely Thai spicy and not American spicy. I typically can handle spicy food, but man, anything above level 2 here makes me sweat. read more

Based on the other reviews, I suspect that some of the meat dishes may be better. But, in my personal experience, it was really shocking that such bad Thai food could be served in a city like Seattle that has such a Thai-savvy population and so many good restaurants to train our palates. Our fish cakes were average - not good, but passable - but the entree was a gloppy goo. I can't in good conscience call it a curry. The tofu and vegetables were stuck in a coagulated but unspiced, unflavorful thick sauce. The atmosphere was depressing too, dim and empty. We will absolutely be making the drive further afield rather than going to the neighborhood choice next time we get a craving for Thai cuisine. read more

I'd like to begin by saying thai food is one if my faves!!! Wow!!! Chada Thai does not kid around with their spiciness!!! I would suggest going one, or even two, stars lower than your normal at other Thai restaurants. That being said, Chada Thai is possibly my new favorite Thai place! I've only had their pad thai but it is THE best I've had in the north Seattle area. It is very flavorful and NOT KETCHUPPY! The price and portion can't be beat either!!! :9 I've never had a dish i didn't love: pad see ew, pad kee mao, all curries, ultimate fried rice, crispy garlic chicken, that iced tea.... Worst customer service I've ever encountered!!! I've ordered to-go from this place for years when I lived down the street, but wanted to bring my coworkers to eat here because I thought the food was great. As soon as we talked through the door, she appeared extremely annoyed. There was a total of 5 of us, and we simply wanted to enjoy a great lunch. We had a question about the menu and she proceeded to snap at us with her responses. We weren't sure if she was having a bad day, so we wanted to remain respectful in the establishment. We had a low, conservative conversation at our table the entire lunch session. When we needed take out boxes for left overs, my coworker asked if she was having a good day. She snapped back and told him he talks too much!! Extremely uncalled for, and no one should ever be treated like this as a customer. We were respectful and kind the entire time, even after she said told my coworker he talked too much. This entire experience was outrageously off-putting. Since I live right down the street from Chada Thai, I've come here a lot for the past few years. The thai food is some of the best, and while the prices are higher than they might be at other locations in Seattle, I feel like the serving sizes are great. My favorite things: - Crispy garlic chicken - Fresh rolls (some people order spring rolls thinking that what they're getting are the fresh rolls--they are different!) - Phad ginger - Phad basil They do tend to be on the spicier end as they do "thai spicy" rather than the usual American ratings, so a two star tends to be too much (but then, I'm a bit of a wimp). Their service is great, though some people find the woman in charge to be a bit abrupt. That's just how she carries herself. She's very, very sweet and is always happy to help. read more

I have a lot of Thai choices around me both at home and at work, some great and some pretty bad. This isn't a bad choice, but the food was very much basic Thai fare and may as well have been from any number of other Thai places. There were extremely large piece of kaffir lime leaf in a curry, I normally can see it and pick it out but if you're not used to doing that you might end up with a mouth full of a flavor and texture you're not used to. I got a prawn curry once, and the prawns were totally dried out. I'll go back because they're geographically close to home, but don't expect anything out of the ordinary. read more

Perfect for a Thai fix! Been coming here for a long time. The food is excellent. Like it so much more than the show pony joints. Yes - hot, so stick with one star to begin with. Portions are large for noodle dishes (these are the only ones that go for so cannot vouch for all - except the killer garlic chicken!). Yes - the lady can be perceived as annoyed at times, reminiscent of a Seinfeld episode, but I think she is killer maverick. Try running your own business in a foreign culture of passive/aggressive hipsters. She has a heart of of 24 karat gold. Always remembers what beer my friend likes, & my liking chop sticks. Once left my jacket here and it was kept it for two months - after only my second time there. Yes - it is a bare quiet sort of place - the walls are bright with color, and standard diner interior. Have not been to Thailand, but thinking this probably is the look for working joes there. At least no phony awful music on loop! *You want the quality to be in the food, not the aesthetics/water features/linen menus. Hole in the wall often means better food - if you travel to Europe you will recognize this. The glitz goes for customers who will pay higher prices for less quality food & not know or care better. Give me an original personality that does syrup fawn over customers - it is refreshing and real. Very sweet family running this place if you stop to see them - hard working people in a very hard business. Have not made it past these to try more, are so good: LOVE the coconut ice cream, bean dessert, any noodle dishes & the garlic chicken. I stopped in today to get some lunch to go. It was the first time so I ordered #42 Phad Basil, they put in a flat flimsy carton. Being careful carrying it and keeping it level arrived home, put it on the corner and took out the box and all the sauce had leaked out all into to bottom of the bag, no sauce left in the carton. What a huge disappointment :(( I call back to let the Owner know, but she didn't seem to give a rats behind, she was rude and couldn't have cared less. So there you have it!! Great spicy Thai food. Recommend the take out. Great prices. The restaurant is pretty spartan ... not real comfortable for dinner dining. And the wait staff is, shall we say .... extremely casual. The owner says he won't cook anything over 4 stars ... "I don't use those cheap Chinese spices." Wonderful, small family owned Thai. Generous portions, tender shrimp (not overcooked to a chewy lump), amazing fresh Thai herbs. They love the chili flakes, so if you normally like 3 or 4 stars, try it at 2 and go from there. The Tom Kha Goong is decadent - perfect balance of broth and coconut milk - keeps you shoveling it down till there's nothing but herbs at the bottom. We just moved to the neighborhood, and SO excited this place is 4 blocks away. Crispy Garlic Chicken is amazing! The owner said it is a secret recipe, there is certainly some magic to produce the sweet, spicy, sticky, basil-infused coating on the chicken. Also Mussaman Curry was hearty and coconutty, with big chunks of potato and slivers of beef. We got takeout one night and went back to dine in. They are very busy with takeout orders, but were still attentive to us. We will be back again, real soon!! read more

This is our neighborhood Thai spot. Try the crispy chicken. It is super addictive (crunchy, garlicky, sweet & savory, fried goodness); and it's a big order! (plenty for 2-3 people, especially if you're ordering other dishes). The "standard" fare is pretty good too (pad thai, pad kee mao, pad see ew, curries, etc). They don't mess around with spice. At other Thai restaurants I order 4 stars (out of 5). At Chada I order 2 stars (out of 4) and it punches some heat. read more

3 star should just be "OK". Cuz that's what Chada Thai is. Just.....OK. My visit was on a Friday evening at 5:15, and other than 3-4 to go pickups coming in, we were the only ones in here. I've been here twice and while the atmosphere has progressed with a repaint and a little more decor, it's still bland and extremely "graveyard" quiet. The mandarin orange paint job is an interesting choice for walls, but doesn't hide the fact that the floors look like my elementary school cafeteria. The place seems to be owned and run by a family and even though that sounds like a fun, neighborhood experience, we were waited on and served by an awfully bashful 13-14 year old girl and that was a bit disturbing to me. Especially when it was evident that she didn't feel comfortable taking our orders and interacting with us. Uhhh...child labor laws....hello? I'm not quite sure the Health Department would be able to verify her King County Health Card accreditation. The wait to order was obnoxious as well. In all fairness, I think they were pretty backed up on to go orders, but I watched the clock on the wall in front of us and it took LITERALLY 15 minutes for the pre-pubescent server to come take our order after we had been seated. This was disappointing as I had family with me and they were growing impatient sitting in an empty restaurant without acknowledgment. But enough of the bad. Like someone mentioned below,. I think one of the best things about Chada Thai is that it hasn't skewed the "star ratings" when it comes to heat. They will second guess you a bit if you order 5-star and you're a whitey, but I'm use to that from Thai establishments by now. ;) Once they ask you if you're sure, it's off to the races and Chada Thai doesn't hold back (like most Thai places do, even if you insist they bring it) Prices are extremely reasonable- most entrees are between $8-10 and they have just started some lunch combos with prices averaging $6-8. Portions are good. Not great. Good. Let's just say standard portions for the price point. Phad Kee Mao and Red Curry Shrimp were delightful while Swimming Rama was a bit MEH. Fresh Rolls (one of my faves) were quite tasty, but not cool enough. I hate them when they come out less than cold. Makes me think they have been sitting out all day. All in all, Chada Thai seems like it serves a better function as a pickup/to go Thai Restaurant and that seemed apparent during both visits as the place was empty but the togo pickups stayed steady. We ate here for the first time last week and I'd rate the food as first rate. I don't need to go into what we ordered, but the menu has most of the usual Thai items. We were one of two tables occupied that night, but it seems as if they do a pretty good carry out business. Service was OK. One person was working the phone, filling takeout orders, and waiting tables, so she was pretty busy. We sometimes had to wait a long time for attention. The room is pretty basic, just a storefront in a strip mall. Here's the thing about this place: it is really expensive! I moved here from Chicago last year, and I have noticed that restaurant prices are quite a bit higher here. That being said, this place was REALLY expensive for what it is. I mean, $2.75 for a Thai ice coffee is ridiculous. So: this place is pretty good for a neighborhood Thai place, so give it a try if you live around there. But do bring a big credit card or a bundle of money, because you'll need it. read more

When I lived on Greenwood I would come to this restaurant at least once a week, sometimes twice. I am both embarrassed and proud to say that when I would call in even months later after moving to a different area the staff would still recognize my voice and had my order memorized. I continue to passionately tell my coworkers, family and friends about it as well. All of the staff are super nice and always cook the best food. Chada Thai is my favorite Thai food restaurant in the area. I have never had something I didn't like here, but I am particularly attached to the various curries, and crispy garlic chicken. Yesterday was my 2nd time dining here. The food had delicious flavor. We ordered the fresh spring rolls and the plum sauce with crushed peanuts and bits of diced cucumber that came with them was very complimentary them. The hot and sour soup with vegetables had a nice gingery, lemon grassy hot and sour flavors that melded well together. My partner ordered the famous chicken that had a coconut curry drizzled on top . It had a nice sear that was full of flavor and very succulent. It was accompanied with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. The Thai iced tea is what I expect from a Thai iced tea, sweet and refreshing. This place would have gotten another star if it weren't for the spring rolls. I read reviews on fresh spring rolls and I ended up with fried crispy rolls. I just didn't care for them because I was excited about my fresh spring rolls I didn't receive. The pineapple fried rice I ordered was good. Although the best thing I had was green curry. Fantastic! I had 2 star spice and for my pallet it was perfect not to hot not mild either. I did take out it was quick, really hot and fresh. Go this route for sure....I would not recommend eating there. This restaurant has wonderful Thai food at great prices, I love it here. Its great to see the same family members working there every time i go. The food is always consistent, I've been more than 15 times over the past year and the dishes are ALWAYS rock solid and fresh. Great for taking out and eating at home!
