Burrito ravioli
Maram A.

The food is here is very average. We ordered the burrata ravioli and the chicken parmigiana. The chicken parmigiana came out very very hot, almost like it had been microwaved and the sauce on top was microwaved too. The chicken itself was very thin and flavorless and the crust was very soggy. It was not enjoyable at all. The pasta it came with needed some salt. The burrata ravioli was better but the vodka sauce is what helped it. We had to ask for parmagean cheese as the waiter did not ask would you like some cheese. It is subpar food. The tables and chairs are small but cozy but the two seat tables are uncomfortably small. The garlic bread was decent. The atmosphere is laid-back and i don't think staff cares about the food at all. It's just served. It was garlicky, crunch and buttery. Mera's Tip: Get the garlic bread

Mushroom Pasta

Was able to get a last minute reservation on their back deck area for Valentine's Day. The service was good - we had to wait right until the exact minute of our reservation to get our table, but the food came out pretty quickly after that. The food was okay - we ordered an array of appetizers and entrees. Portions were pretty large, and there was table bread as well which helped curb our appetites. The pasta was decent, the home made pasta was good but the mushrooms pasta lacked real flavor. My partner ordered the steak which was accompanied by a huge mound of mashed potatoes. Overall, a good experience.

Cent'Anni has been on my list for a while and I was very impressed and pleased with our meal here. We sat outside which was quite a nice outdoor space when the weather is great. The service was quite nice and friendly. For what it is, they're doing really well. Got calamari and meatballs as an appetizer and they were both really good. The pastas were the star of the show with the steak a very welcome addition to each meal. Items are well priced and the pasta is great. The deserts were even more amazing somehow. We got the specials which were bread pudding with vanilla gelato, and chocolate tiramisu. Both were very very good. I feel like I'd be back to try other items on the menu

Spaghetti Al Limone w/Anchovy
Brendan T.

For a spot to stay open for a solid decade anywhere in the borough is impressive enough, but even much moreso on this strip of Franklin Ave, where businesses tend to turnover at a rapid clip. It's remained in my rotation for o' these many years now based primarily on our go to order from here of, in my opinion the specialty of the house; Spaghetti Al Limone, a consistently tasty lemon spaghetti with the must-add addition of wonderfully slimy and salty anchovies. Perfectly al dente spaghetti simply tossed with the bright and bracingly acidic, garlicky lemon sauce with a fat half of a lemon thrown in for aesthetic pop. Most crucially of all for a neighborhood spot like this it holds up exquisitely in takeout or home delivery. In more recent years post-pandemic years, as the espresso martini revival exploded they have also developed a following for the creative and delicious variety served here including a smokey and musty tequila based one and a viral frozen concoction. Established beloved neighborhood stalwarts like this at one time formed the backbone of Brooklyn neighborhood dining culture but they're becoming increasingly harder to come by, hopefully this one continues to adapt and thrive.

If you walk to fast you will go right past it. This subtle but has a big punch of romantic atmosphere. They also have a back yard area as well. I came with my family and we was not disappointed. Everything we got was delicious. The BLT was excellent and the pesto mayo was everything. I will be asking for extra tomatoes cuz they were roasted and fantastic on this sandwich. The bread was everything!! The ultimate brunch drinks were also tasty. The crostinis with goat cheese was sooo tasty...I want a drizzle of honey cuz I'm fat. But that one and the chicken pate were excellent. Whoevers grandma making the cheesey lasagna is heaven sent. This establishment was excellent...I will be back!!

Best Italian food in Brooklyn. This place is nestled in on Franklin Avenue. You can potentially miss it but try not to. They are a small place but they have seating in the back as well that is heated and covered. I strongly suggest making a reservation to avoid a long wait. I ended up sitting at the bar and the service was great but I would definitely go back to experience table seating. The lentil soup was so good. Had just the right amount of flavor in every bite. It was so needed on a cold evening. Both pasta dishes were amazing and freshly made. They were steaming hot the whole time eating which I love! Hot food is the best for me. Haha. Amy was our amazing server at the bar. She was attentive and we had great conversation. I hope she sees this review because she deserves to be recognized!

Mozzarella Caprese di Bufala

I enjoyed the Caprese, wasn't too fond of my pasta and the calamari was ok. The service was good , ambiance is pretty cozy it's not that big of a restaurant . I'd certainly go back to try other dishes.

Roasted Beet Salad with Arugula

We were looking for someplace to grab a very late dinner on our way home from closing night of a show I was in, and my roommate suggested Cent' Anni which she'd gotten delivery from & loved. It was a great choice! Really cozy space! We sat in a booth, which was really spacious. We shared the Beet Salad which was well balanced, light & acidic, excellent with a bite of the creamy goat cheese. (Having this before the goat cheese crostini is probably why the crostini felt underwhelming.) The calamari was perfect, thin & crispy, and so tasty with the marinara offered on the side. My friend got the penne pomodoro & really liked it. I was too tired to think so I ended up getting the chicken parm, which was pretty decent, even though I could have used a lot more seasoning. Ended up taking it home & it was amazing once I added a few things to it! The real star was my roommate's gnocchi -- I can't wait to come back and try one of their homemade pastas, because my bite of hers was the best thing I had. I also want to make it a point to commend our server! It was an hour before close & I expected 0 energy: she absolutely did not have to be as warm, funny, or attentive as she was! It was a pleasant surprise, and made us want to come back again even more. Kudos to her, we'll definitely be back!

Negroni Cocktail
Kailey N.

Came here to try their happy hour. The backyard was very cute, but we found out that happy hour is only inside at the bar, even when the backyard is empty. We also found out that the online menu is a bit out-dated. Prices and the happy hour cocktails offered are a little different on the online menu vs in the restaurant. The service was fine. Our server wasn't particularly friendly but she took our orders and was willing to move us to the bar when we asked about happy hour. Not sure if I'll be back for happy hour but we'll see!

Eggplant Parmigiana
Jessica B.

Ordered lasagna Verdi and eggplant parm for delivery. Food arrived hot and ample and the sauce on everything was great - as a red sauce girl this is #1 for me. But I'm also an eggplant lover and sadly I couldn't take more than a few bites of the eggplant parm. The slices are thick (1") but not leeched so it tasted bitter and sweet at the same time instead of salty and savory, and that conflicts hard with the sauce and cheese. Eggplant parm should be thin sliced and breaded / fried. Pasta was ok. The lasagna was solid, but I did feel they just stacked a bunch of pasta sheets instead of true layering. I have had better experiences eating there but felt I needed to review for the eggplant connoisseurs.

Dinner for 4

Crown Heights, especially Franklin Avenue, continues to surprise me thus when my friends asked me where I wanted to dine for my belated birthday, this is the neighborhood I chose. Cent'Anni* offers a rustic setting with wooden tables and high stools, a cozy well lit bar, booths and a spacious outdoor garden. We dined in a booth and must admit we got off to a little rocky start: the appetizer plates were dirty and there was a napkin on the floor under our table. The explanation given was " we rushed to seat you". ( which didn't make sense since I explained my other friends were running a little late). Cent'Anni boasts homemade pastas and a delicious ragu sauce. They do offer a nice wine list. I was looking for a light white wine that was similar to Sauvignon Blanc and chose the Radicchio and my friend ordered the Grillo, both were dry, a tad sweet and excellent choices. The server allowed us to try both before ordering. We all ordered pasta dishes: Chicken parmigiana: two friends ordered this and enjoyed it immensely, generous portion of chicken and spaghetti. Spaghetti and meatballs: one friend compared this dish to what your nonna would make. Eggplant Parmigiana: my dish was a.. disappointment.. The eggplant was mushy and bland but the spaghetti was delicious. Desserts: the tartufo was delicious with vanilla and chocolate gelato in a dark chocolate shell. The tiramisu was equally delicious. My friends and I all agreed we definitely would come back. There is a Happy Hour during the week so this would be a great post work spot. Cent'Anni is a great neighborhood Italian spot that will become a regular destination for my friends and I. *CentAnni means a toast "to live a hundred years" Let's hope I live that long to toast. Lol!

Tagliatelle ai funghi, Penne alla Vodka, and Pappardelle Lamb Ragu
Amanda N.

Came here last night for an early Valentine's date. The place is super cute and there's definitely an air of romance with the dim lighting and candles on each table. We sat in a booth in the back and it was pretty roomy and felt private, but there was a small two person table set up right next to us. No one was sitting there but if there was, i can see how it definitely would not feel as private/quiet since it's very close to the booth. My partner and i got three pastas, she got the tagliatelle funghi and i got the pappardalle lamb ragu, and then we shared the penne alla vodka (because why not!). All of the pastas were solid flavor wise, plus they were a pretty big portion of each.

pesto w penne and shrimp
Amanda W.

Attentive staff and friendly service. Kale and mushroom were tasty. Grilled shrimp has good char but could use more seasoning. My friend wanted pesto more creamy. Fried calamari is good 10/10. Chicken parm is bad, taste like school lunch pizza. Ragu is good my friend enjoyed the meatballs and the sausages.

I loved my order, the Tagliolini with Maitaki Mushrooms and Tiger Shrimp in Cream Sauce - delicious without being too heavy. My husband enjoyed the Squid Ink Tonnarelli Allo Scoglio which had a spicy kick and my SIL liked the gnocchi. They were able to accommodate with a spaghetti with ragu sauce for my kids to share. Dessert was alright. They were very sweet with birthday candles and singing a song for my FIL. My husband loved the affogato. The tiramisu was decent. The crème brulee was an interesting chocolate orange flavor. The kids didn't care to finish their chocolate cake though, which was pretty dry. All in all, it was a great dinner. The pasta portions were smaller than expected but they were delicious and feels just right if you get some appetizers and pizza as well. Would return again for the pastas.

Piccola Cucina Casa is a charming, modern restaurant, and overall I had a pleasant enough dinner,…read morebut there were enough small issues that the experience landed closer to average than exceptional for me. The first issue is the arrival setup. There is very little room to wait inside, aside from a small area near the entrance, so depending on how busy it is you may end up waiting outside. More awkwardly, there did not seem to be a dedicated host stationed at the front during our visit. The people handling seating were farther into the restaurant, so you have to walk partway through the dining room to figure out whom to speak with, only to then be directed back toward the entrance. It is a relatively minor design and operational issue, but it makes the arrival feel less polished than the room itself. The restaurant is otherwise attractive and has a lively, intimate feel. My cocktail was fine, but not particularly memorable. For dinner, I ordered the paccheri ai tre crostacei with langoustine, lobster and shrimp. The seafood itself was enjoyable, but the pasta struck me as undercooked rather than simply pleasantly al dente. The food also came out extremely quickly, to the point that the meal felt rushed. I cannot say whether the speed directly caused the pasta issue, but taken together, the pacing and the undercooked pasta made the dish feel as though it could have benefited from a little more time. A practical note about the dish: it is very much a shell-on preparation. There was shell with some of the lobster as well, so anyone who dislikes dealing with shells should know that before ordering. Also, although lobster is included in the description, I would not order this expecting a particularly generous amount of lobster. It is better thought of as a mixed shellfish pasta rather than a lobster-forward dish. We did not order appetizers, so I cannot pretend this was a comprehensive survey of the kitchen. That is one reason I would not make sweeping claims about the restaurant based on this meal alone. Nothing about the evening was disastrous. The restaurant is appealing, the meal was perfectly edible, and there were things to like. But between the awkward check-in setup, the rushed pacing, an unremarkable cocktail, and pasta that seemed undercooked, I also did not leave feeling that I had experienced something especially memorable. For me, this was a solid three-star dinner: pleasant and somewhat above average in atmosphere, but with enough execution and pacing issues that I would have difficulty rating the experience higher based on this visit.

Overall it was good, but the combination needed better balance. The gorgonzola had a pretty aggressive bite, and paired with the saltiness of the prosciutto it became a little much. There were some greens underneath, and once I incorporated those into each bite, they mellowed everything out considerably. I actually think the greens needed to be treated as part of the dish rather than essentially garnish. For my entrée I had the special, a risotto with clams and octopus. The octopus was easily the best part. The clams were extremely small and pretty average, to the point that I'm not sure they added much to the dish at all. The risotto itself was also surprisingly bland and not particularly enjoyable on its own. Mixed with the octopus, however, it worked much better and became a genuinely enjoyable bite. That's ultimately where the dish felt a little uneven: the strongest component was carrying the rest of the plate rather than everything working together. Service was fine when I arrived, but became noticeably slower once the outdoor seating filled up. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor sections, but appeared to have only two servers, with the hostess also serving and a barback supporting the operation. Once the patio got busy, most of the staff's attention shifted outside and the indoor dining room received considerably less attention. Nobody seemed lazy or inattentive individually. It simply looked understaffed for the number of tables they were trying to cover. One additional server during the busy period probably would have made a substantial difference. And, admittedly a minor thing, an Italian restaurant having limoncello but no amaretto was disappointing. Nothing here was terrible. The appetizer had good ideas, the octopus was quite good, and the meal had several enjoyable moments. The food and service were just inconsistent enough that I couldn't quite call it a strong three-star experience, but it was close. I'd put it around 2.75 stars, which I'm comfortable rounding to three.

Of course, we did what we always do; showed up without a reservation haha... It was packed, and the hostess told us the was no way they could seat us. Defeated, we went outside ans sat on a bench trying to figure out our next move. Then the unimaginable happened. One of the people running the floor passed us outside, started chatting with us, and said, "let me double-check". A few minutes later, he came back and got us a table! He make sure we understood that we only had it for a short window bc they needed it back at a certain time -- but we got at least hour and a half to enjoy it so we were THRILLED. To us that was more than enough. He really went out of his way to make it happen, and honestly wish I remembered his name so I could give him the credit he deserves. And the service from there was outstanding. Even though we knew we had a time restriction, we never felt rushed or hurried for a second. Everything felt relaxed, attentive, and perfectly paced, which made them whole experience even better. Once we sat down, we started ordering as quickly as possible. The grilled clams were insanely good -- flavorful and with just the right little kick. The Nduja & sungold tomato toast was surprise favorite. The tomatoes were so juicy, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Simple, but SO good. The little gem salad was fresh, crunchy and exactly what we needed in between all the richer dishes. For pastas, I had the mafaldini with parmigiano, one of their signatures, and it was delicious. BUT... I have to give the win to my husband's pick, rigatoni alla diavola. I know they are completely different dishes, and Im usually a white-sauce kind of girl, but there was something about that bold, spicy flavor that just HIT THE SPOT. And dessert... The vanilla soft serve gelato and the warm rasberry tart together were the perfect combination -- creamy, warm, fruity, and just the right way to finish our lucky dinner. Lilia was absolutely worth the wait and definitely lived up to the hype. Another Brooklyn spot checked off the list -- and one I'd happily go back to.

The rigatoni and gnocchi were very good - the rigatoni was perfectly al dente paired with good flavor and the texture of the gnocchi was perfect. Highly recommend ordering these. Dessert: they definitely don't skimp on the dessert, we each got our own but the gelato options were definitely shareable. They also had amaro options which I always appreciate but didn't get this time. The space was a little cramped indoors though that didn't bother me as much as the temperature. It was a really hot summer day and I don't think they had air conditioning? Or if they did it definitely was not at an ideal temperature as I didn't feel like there was much air circulation.

Our third server was much more patient and helpful, and I truly appreciated his effort. He orchestrated singing to my friend for her birthday(which they do for all birthdays ) and took a picture of our group, giving us some sweet memories from the evening. Unfortunately, by the time he took over, much of the damage to the experience had already been done. As for the food, I sent back the pasta e fagioli because it contained prosciutto. That could be my bad. Later, after discussing options with our third server, I received a pasta dish in chicken broth that was essentially a soup. It may be a traditional preparation I'm unfamiliar with, but it wasn't what I understood I was ordering or wanted for dinner. I ended up without a satisfying meal, although I did have a French 75. But like I've never seen this dish and like idk. I also asked for chicken scampi, but also was informed that scampi's only for seafood and they refused to make it because culturally not appropriate and I respect that as well but putting that out there as well. So then to get this from going from wanting an authentic pasta dish it just blew my mind. I do appreciate the third server trying to accommodate but like seriously what was this? One friend ordered the lasagna, which I would personally rate around a 6 out of 10. Another settled on spaghetti and meatballs after becoming frustrated with the ordering process. My friend who ordered shrimp scampi hadn't understood that it came with two sides rather than pasta. She ordered pasta separately, but felt it didn't complement the dish well. Not to mention that she asked for spaghetti noodles and they brought penne. I believe . I'm just confused like we didn't feel like we were being heard . Clearer explanations could have helped us make choices we would actually enjoy. It's just crazy because I really expected this to go perfectly and there's such great reviews and it's like what happened here.? If you're considering visiting, I recommend reviewing the menu beforehand to make sure it suits your needs. Be aware that some items we saw online weren't on the menu in person, and there were additional offerings we hadn't seen online. It may also help to call ahead and ask about the current menu and daily specials, although I can't speak to how readily they answer the phone. Our bill came to approximately $400, mostin our group left feeling hungry and dissatisfied. Spending that much on a birthday dinner and leaving so disappointed was incredibly frustrating. Three of us honestly wanted to send our dishes back, but in the spirit of our friends birthday, decided to just eat it up and try to enjoy the night to the best of our ability. I on the other hand on any other night might have caused more of a fuss. I can't speak to why the first two servers treated us that way, and I won't speculate about their intentions. I can only speak to how the service felt: unwelcoming, impatient, and uncomfortable. The space itself was cozy, but the energy of those interactions made it difficult to enjoy being there. I'm grateful to our final server for his patience, the birthday song, and our group photo. Those moments mattered, especially because we were there to celebrate someone special. But even with those bright spots, the overall experience was a 0 out of 10 for me. This reflects our personal visit, and based on that experience, I would not return.
