This place was just DELISH... Awesome eatery outside the city. Bartender Ben is super knowledgeable and suggested two whiskeys to my hubby and he loved both. I had a dirty martini with a local vodka "maneater" and it was amazing, even the olives were delicious!! We ordered apps for dinner, Brussels which were the best I've ever had. Poutine which had tender juicy meat and delicious but not too rich of a gravy. We also got the baked goat cheese and I'm pretty sure that fried pita triangles have changed my life.... Hubby got bread pudding for dessert that pretty much tasted like a pancake and a cinnamon roll had a love child.. The atmosphere, staff, and food are all top notch here. I went here tonight with my wife for our anniversary, and it was spectacular in every way, from beginning to end. I called at around noon to try and make a last minute reservation, and realized they were closed. Even though I left no message, 10 minutes later I received a phone call from the hostess apologizing for not getting to the phone in time, and she was able to get us a table! We spent a wonderful evening together. We started out with some fantastic cocktails - my wife had the "chef of the year", a spectacular sparkling cocktail named after Cellar House's Chloe Yates who won STL Chef of the year last year, and I had "that one whiskey drink", formerly an off-menu classic bourbon cocktail only known by savvy regulars. They were both worth the price of admission. So good. Next we ordered the Blue Crab and White Bean Tartine, lumb crab meat, house-made mayonnaise, meyer lemon, fennel, white bean spread, watermelon radish, served on some crispy crusty Italian bread. It was excellent! I would also recommend the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which usually comes served atop the chefs creamy polenta of the week (this week was a Boursin-parm polenta) with a ponzu butter sauce. Incredible! More drinks! Next we picked a few more cocktails and ordered our mains - my wife had the perfectly seared scallops served with avocado butter cream, pork belly, corn, red bell peppers, fresno peppers, fava beans, cherry tomatoes, crispy leaks. I had the steak salmorigio - their take on steak frites- served with roasted garlic, oregano, lemon, chili flake, pomme frites, garlic aioli. Both dishes were really special. I think you could order anything off of this menu and you would be in heaven. We skipped dessert in favor of one last cocktail...this was a celebration after all! I selected a nice bourbon on a beautifully crystal clear oversized cube, and my wife had an espresso martini. Service, food, drinks -- beyond reproach. The food (happy hour) especially the smash burger and the pomme frites with garlic aioli was amazing. The sangria, not so much, so I ordered another drink which I never received. It wasn't a big deal so we thought we would just go ahead and leave. 30 minutes later and after asking for our bill twice, we finally received it. Also, has a "cozy" sequestered outside dining area in a busy strip mall off Telegraph road. Food was great, made to order, and interesting. Had the crispy brussel sprouts and pork chop, both winners, brown butter, polenta and sprouts yummy. You have got to try Cellar House on Telegraph! What a fantastic food experience. Have visited twice and both times the food is off the charts. The chef here is doing something really special. Apps: shrimp & grits, 2nd time crispy Brussels sprouts. Brussels may be the best we've had anywhere. Ponzu butter sauce on the sprouts...wow! Entrees: scallops (off menu special), Three little pigs, 2nd time cod & short rib. Blown away by all 4. Not just the main course but the surrounding sides accompany so well. Very well thought out and constructed. Crazy flavors in every bite. Dessert tonight was grand marnier pound cake...what a way to end. Awesome little place for a drink and a meal! Cocktails are awesome - I haven't sampled their wine selection yet (you'd think at the WINE bar I'd drink some WINE but apparently not). Had a few bites here and there and everything has been very good! Any of the sliders are A+ and the crab cigarillos are my favorite appetizer. Ambiance is pretty relaxing and comfortable. We've sat at both the bar and in a booth before and both are great. Service is always awesome and the staff is always nice and very helpful. They even have a cute patio off to the side for nice evenings! Definitely worth a try - this has become a semi-regular place for us since it's nice to have a nice bar this close to our house! read more

We went for dinner and the food was good, if somewhat pricey. I had the crab cake appetizer for my main dish which was really good! Heavily spiced, but I like it. Lots of crab and the sauce served with it was great. My friend got a salad and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were too salty and she couldn't finish them. Very small space but nice. I am writing this review from when I visited Cellar House almost a whole year ago because I woke up this morning craving their baked goat cheese and crispy Brussels sprouts. You absolutely must order the Brussels sprouts!! Also, the pita bread served with the baked goat cheese is out of this world. Service is phenomenal, food is sophisticated and delicious. The entire place is put together so well. My mom is the type of patron who is hard to please when it comes to both food and service, but she said it was one of the best dining experiences she has ever had! The bartender was amazing. My mom couldn't figure out what she wanted to drink and he crafted a special cocktail for her which was absolutely delicious. I tried hers and had to order one for myself, I've never tasted anything like it. The bread pudding for dessert was also phenomenal, and I'm really not the type to order dessert. Pro tip: make reservations, it's a very small place. We were lucky enough to get a table by calling ahead 30 minutes, but I wouldn't count on that. I recently visited Cellar House for my mom's birthday. The food is terrific and easily the best in Oakville, but what really makes this place great is the people who work there. This was by far the best experience I have ever had at a restaurant and I worked in the service industry for 10+ years. Chef Chloe immediately came to our table and asked my daughter what her favorite food was and told her she would make her whatever she wanted as long as they had it. Then the bartender made her a mocktail that she loved! Finally Chef Chloe brought out cotton candy for desert for her as well as a desert for my mom. The whole staff was great and made our whole family feel special. I will continue to support this place and recommend them to as many people as possible. read more

Quick shot review....Cool little spot, very intimate in size, the two person booths actually feel secluded even though they aren't. Greeter and server were very nice. Our food choices were all excellent - so savory and flavorful. They were all beautifully plated and presented, too. Crab mac & cheese arancini was rich, but not so much to overdo it. Couscous was used for the mac, for a perfect bite size. Parmesan cream sauce outside really enhanced. Pan-seared salmon was fully cooked throughout, yet flaky and juicy inside - can salmon be juicy? It came with cranberry pomegranate salsa on top, which gave a sweet contrast. Cellar house burger made my salivary glands go into overdrive. Texture was finely minced, and the burger was filled with flavor from the lemon vinaigrette and spices. Chopped salad with "crispy" parm cheese was instead soft and very chewy, slightly stale, it did taste great with the salad. Service was slow on a Wednesday night and there were three people in there dining. The atmosphere and the ambiance is very nice and tastefully done. It wasn't bad, it just didn't live up to the hype and the price. Reading the reviews before I coming here I was looking forward to eating at Cellar House. Unfortunately the experience didn't live up to expectations. Positives first and the reason for two stars instead of 1 - they have a thoughtful and nuanced wine list. Great to see wines from Eastern Europe on the list. I didn't have a cocktail but several people in my party did and everyone seemed happy with them. Our server was very nice, but he might have been the only server that night and was over stretched. We were a party of 12, but had made a reservation for the patio, so they knew to expect a large party. The negatives - 5 of us ordered the strip steak, 3 of us sent our plates back to the kitchen. Two because they weren't cooked to specifications, and I sent mine back because it wasn't a strip steak it was a pork chop. It was a perfectly good pork chop, the one bite I had had lots of flavor, but it wasn't what I ordered so I sent it back. I'm sure its stressful for a chef to see three plates come back, but the chef/owner (?) came out and and told me I was wrong and that he did send a steak. Pork and steak look different, taste different, etc, it was definitely the pork chop on the menu. I wasn't bothered by getting the chop, its an easy mistake, but I was bothered by the unprofessional attitude after I sent the pork chop back and asked for the steak I ordered. It then took them 30 minutes to get the three new steaks out to us, mine was overcooked and the fries were just mid. Friends weren't happy with the risotto they ordered, so maybe the place was just having a bad night. The potential is there, I can see how this is a popular neighborhood spot, but I won't be going back to check. If you do go I recommend the pork chop, the one bite I had of it was the best food I had all night. read more
