I dislike rating 4 stars for restaurants just because I wasn't wowed, but I'm reminding myself that I've got nothing bad to say, that this is not a low rating, and that my dining companion also was not wowed. I'll throw Barrio a bone, too: I'm a picky vegetarian with what some people consider is poor taste, so don't yinz listen to me anyway. Ready? Go! I've walked by Barrio so many times the last few years on the way to Clementine's or Sasha's. I finally checked out and experienced the menu when Sasha's was too packed to seat 2 people a couple of weeks ago. Barrio was so much less busy than Sasha's (well, obviously). We ate outside on the sidewalk across from Concordia Park. You order at the bar and they bring the food to you. My veggie burger was good. Not the best burger I've ever had, but it accomplished its goal of getting eaten. I can't remember whether I finished it there or took it home to finish. We found Barrio randomly looking for something to eat while we were out. The bar is in a neighborhood part of Clayton near one of the elementary schools. There are lots of windows and natural light. The bar keep and our waiter were very attentive, we were there mid afternoon/early evening and it wasn't busy at all. The food was decent. The fish was cooked well although the sandwhich was very plain. The fries were delicious (love a good fry) The salad was delicious. They don't use traditional dressing and I was worried because I'm not a fan of mustard and it's mustard based but it was nice! The crispy chicken on top added flavor and texture . I've been to this spot a couple times for drinks but never the food since it was so late. This time I tried the food and the best is the Killer B Burger. Everyday out it from the burger the brisket, bbq sauce was amazing. Didn't like the turkey burger kinda dry and the chicken sandwich was okay as well as the fries. Now a regular in our rotation, I'd say we come at least once a month. In addition to great burgers, their Caesar salad, Caesar salad wrap, rotating specials, quesadilla, and fish and chips are all amazing. The cocktails are great, they have an amazing wine selection (they're owned by Sasha's wine bar), and the staff is amazing - friendly and accommodating. I selected this place for my Friday night end of the summer get together / birthday celebration because it was central for both my STL city, and STL county & St Charles county friends. Pup friendly patio is an added bonus. Parking was a challenge on Friday night which appeared to be concern of a handful of guests. Dan, the owner was easy to work with throughout the planning process until the day of our event. No option to reserve ahead of time but owner knew ahead where he kept looking out for tables that would clear up. Great venue option if you also prefer to order / pay at the counter at your convenience instead of having to request split checks. Drink options available whether boozy or mocktail or NA were all available. I unfortunately forgot to take photos of my frozen Cherry limeade boozy drink for the night but I do have photos to show how this venue brought our group together. I wanted churros but will have to save that for my next visit. A memorable time together & next goal is to try to attend first Friday karaoke event. read more

Brisket sandwich was ok but wouldn't order it again. Fries are the kind you get at the grocery store and fried in oil that probably hasn't been changed in a while. Burger was also ok about what you expect for any bar type burger. They sell old cans of coke though. It tasted salty so we checked the date and it has expired months ago so it's probably been in the there for over year. Told them about the issue they just laughed and shook their head as if it's our fault? That was weird. Maybe come if you are drinking didn't try any alcohol. But we won't return. read more

I was dining with an elderly friend there and even though they do counter orders, the server went to extra effort to come to the table to take her order. Super nice. I've seen this place quite a few times being in this neighborhood and never stopped in to see what it was about. Today after grabbing ice cream next door we decided to stop in here to grab a drink to cool off. The woman at the bar was pleasant and nice while we ordered and she served us. She recommended the vodka frozen lime slush type of drink. It was mixed well and service was fast. The inside of this place is a little on the smaller side but they have plenty of seats outside. We didn't get a chance to try the food but from looking at other customer's plates it seems to be good. If you want a quick drink and it to be reasonably priced. Give this place a try. P.S. If you want an amazing atmosphere on a charming patio where you can have a front row seat to the best people watching then Barrio is for you. I had the barbecue brisket sandwich with the fries, extra crispy and a bubbly rosé. My friend had the fried cheese and said it was delightful. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. I have been here in the summer on their cutely lit patio, on a busy Friday when there was only room at the bar, and mid afternoon when only one other couple was in! Came in on a lazy Thursday & was put at ease with a laid back atmosphere. I ordered a grilled BBQ sandwich & was not disappointed. I sat at the bar and the food came out in less than 10 minutes, talk about quick! Not only that but I had two asada street tacos, they were solid but a bit pricey at 3.49$ a taco. After two failed attempts at other restaurants that had a long wait list, we stumbled upon Barrio. We were sat immediately and ordered food within 5 minutes. The fried pickles were unfortunately less than stellar. They came out about a minute after ordering and were stale and Luke warm so I feel they may have been sitting out for awhile. If made fresh, I bet they would be good. I got a burger and it had great flavor and my boyfriend got the asada tacos and he said they were delicious. We also got a side of fries with cheese and the fries were seasoned well and crispy. Keep in mind you have to pay extra for sides! The staff was very friendly and the establishment itself, while a bit small, was very inviting. They do offer patio seating which would be nice in the summer! I was so ready to love this place but unfortunately we did not have a positive experience. The patio is great, and the indoor area has open doors and windows to provide an open air experience. The menu had fun cocktails and several beer options. The food menu appeared to be casual. We walked in on a Tuesday evening, I would say there was a good amount of people, but not overly packed. We sat down at the bar and even though the bartender was standing right where we sat, she refused to make eye contact and immediately turned her back to us. We sat there for 15-20 minutes, and she never made eye contact with us, and either did the other woman working. We were never greeted or acknowledged at all actually. The bartender made several angry remarks and was cursing as she was making drinks for other patrons, complaining about what she had to make them. We really did not feel welcome here and ended up deciding to leave without getting to order anything. Perhaps another day or different staff would have left us with a better impression. read more

The food was also meh. Well, the food they had available. The first thing that called my name on the menu were the fish tacos. Out of fish. I went with the mushroom, chicken, and chorizo. They were waaaay smaller than anticipated and weren't anything special- the chicken not good at all and the tortillas were thin and flimsy. In a world where Mission Taco exists, Mexican restaurants really need to step up their game. My novio ordered the steak fajitas. For the same price as my 3 tacos ($15), he got significantly more food. But overall, his dish was bland. We liked the tomatoes in the rice, but it didn't have much taste otherwise. The steak was blah. But the beans and peppers were good! We ordered a classic and mezcal margarita. Classic was a little too sweet, but both were fairly strong. Nothing that would bring us back. I am bummed that we didn't like Barrio. We really enjoy the Demun area and would have loved to add Barrio as a go-to spot. I guess we'll stick with Sasha's. read more

We sat ourselves and were brought water and ordered the sangria. We then decided on the trip, salsa rojo, salsa verde and guacamole. The chips were straight out of a bag and stale. My good friend and I went there on a rainy Saturday morning so the restaurant was near empty (only 1 other group of two in the restaurant ). I was overall disappointed in my experience. Service- tough to even call what we experienced 'service'. It took forever to order drinks/food even though there were multiple waitresses and only 2 groups total in their establishment. Food- we got their chips and salsa and it was very bland. I wouldn't recommend. We also got their tacos and were not very impressed, they lacked flavor. One to call out, they only had a limited menu that day so we did not get to experience their whole menu. Drinks- this is the one shining part of the restaurant, their margaritas. They are delicious, strong, and have different flavors (they do not use margarita mix). Oh, and this place is on the pricier side as well. If they change their service and introduce some new items on the menu I may consider coming back. read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE experience! When I arrived at 10:00 AM, the door was unlocked but no one was there to greet me or seat me. I waited for a few minutes and then went back outside to meet the other people in my party. When the others arrived, we went back in and a woman came out of the kitchen to let us know that the front of house worker would not arrive for another 20 minutes and that food would not be served until 11:00 AM. We asked if it would be alright for us to sit at a table while we waited. She said we could and brought us water while we waited. About 30 minutes later, another employee came and said that they were not opening until 11:00 AM (despite their doors being unlocked and us having been served water). He stated that our presence in the dining room was a liability and insinuated that we had done something wrong by being there. Did I mention that the hours posted on google AND yelp both showed 10:00 AM AND that the doors were unlocked? He was TERRIBLY rude and inconsistent with what the other employee told us. "For future reference, if a restaurant is closed, you can't hang out in it!" Um... "For future reference, if your restaurant is closed, DON'T LEAVE THE DOORS UNLOCKED, DON'T PROVIDE US WITH WATER, AND DON'T INSINUATE THAT WE ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG BY SITTING AND WAITING TO ORDER!" Also, the restaurant is in a fantastic location with many other good businesses in the area. I felt that the food was where things fell a bit short. I got the chorizo and steak tacos, and while they were a great deal at $2 per taco, the tortillas were very dry and tough which made it a bit unpleasant to eat. The fried chicken sandwich was not bad in terms of flavor, but they use two thin chicken patties rather than using a thick juicy one. The fries with the sandwich were seasoned and tasted great.
