Love this brewery! Friendly staff, tasty beers, and lots of seating options. They always have good tunes playing and accessible QR codes with details of all their available draught options. You can also grab 4-packs to go. Cheers!

Saturday afternoon and I've successfully managed to get in to Saint Louis without murdering anyone or bonking in to any other cars. That deserves a reward. So I'm at Heavy Riff for a beer! Unfortunately, the one I really wanted was tapped out and the bartender recommended something similar. None of the others appealed so I tried a half pour of their dark Czech lager. It was good for what it is but it didn't fit my taste and after the one beer, I opted to move along to somewhere else. [Review 580 of 2024 - 283 in Missouri - 21611 overall]

This is a good place to enjoy craft beer and very creative food. It's located nearby the St. Louis Zoo and usually has street parking available nearby. The food was served quickly and had good tastes, but the menu is limited if you have little ones. The beer menu was extensive, so I ordered flight of beers to sample their recommendations. You have to order at the bar counter inside and the food and drinks will be served to your table. But the staff is friendly and gives good recommendations for food and drinks. The ambiance is very casual and chill, outside in their covered patio.

I love Dogtown and I love Heavy Riff! We went to Stone Turtle for brunch on a Sunday and decide to prolong the brunch vibes with some patio beers. First thing I always notice is that their patio is dog friendly! Always a plus and a true asset for many people. You walk in and you go a bit to the left to get in line to order your beer. They have A LOT of options and some choices for everyone. I opted for the Squeeze Box Lemon which is was great! I love lemon and the vibes of a summer brew- so it hit the spot. We then split a flight with several different options which was all enjoyed. They come with 4 5oz pours which is a good amount of beer and variety for around $12. Looking forward to trying the food menu next time!

I was looking for a nice microbrewery to take my customer for dinner. Heavy Riff seemed to be what we were looking for. Good comfort food along with great beer. I ordered the smoked pulled pork nachos as well as the a smoked reuben. Really nice thick and tender slices of corned beef along with sauerkraut, swiss cheese and thousand island dressing on a toasted pumpernickle bread. The nachos were too filling to eat all. The beer was very good as I had the IPA. My customer ordered the pale ale which he said was also very good. That's a compliment since he comes from a town where there are many good microbrews. I placed this on my return list of places to visit when in STL.

Food is great for brewery food. Highly recommend the beer bread! Nice inside area and great outdoor patio when nice weather. Service you need to go to bar to order and line can get a bit long sometimes. A go-to spot for friend hangouts.

The second brewery on this trip to St. Louis that I made it to was Heavy Riff. It was another brewery I have been meaning to get to for a while. I went around lunch time and was pleasantly surprised to learn they also smoke their own meats and enjoyed a Brisket Sandwich with pit beans that paired wonderfully with the acidity / funkiness of the sours and the malty characters of the BBA Strong Ale. The rock playlist also was fantastic as I felt obligated to jam along with the songs as I ate and drank. Highly recommend getting out here! Rumbleseat: A Bourbon Barrel Aged Strong Ale. Not overly alcoholic, but a pleasant warmth to the beer. Strong malty character of caramel, plum, and figs. Dark color with a hint of bitter dark chocolate, but leaned towards the caramel / sweetness just slightly (but not sugar sweet). Weird to drink in the hot STL summer, but enjoyable none-the-less. Foedre Fafa: A Missouri Oak Aged blended Wild Saison Ale (did you know most oak barrels come from MO?). The ale has a tangy acidity that creates a fruity tartness similar to freshly pressed lemonade. Cosmic Cowboy: A Double Dry Hopped New England Style IPA featuring Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin (my favorite hop right now). Huge Sauvignon Blanc grape character, medium bitterness, medium tropical fruits like passion fruit and mango. Medium body that provides some thicker mouthfeel that coats the palate with this flavorful IPA. Oud Bruin: One of my all time favorite styles and rarely seen. And if it is seen, not done well - glad to say this was done extremely well. This Oud Bruin was aged two and half years in port wine barrels. Has a slightly tart and acidic character with malty notes of dark fruits like figs / dates, dark chocolate, and fresh caramel. Some port / sherry is just noticeable. BBQ and Beer, what more could you ask for?

One of my favorite breweries in STL. They have a wide variety of styles and there is always something new to try. Their food is pretty good, too! Staff is friendly and quick to help work through a line of people. There's a nice outdoor patio where dogs and people can chill. Bonus is Felix's Pizza is right next door and it's good to pick up on the way out.

Lively atmosphere, bartenders were welcoming and interactive. We ordered the Hot Cheese curds as an appetizer, and I got the Obscura as me beer of choice. Not going to lie, the cheese curds were as advertised! They were hot! Not so much that I couldn't handle but don't take them lightly, they are good. They came drizzled with a good ranch. The beer was great, especially with the hot cheese curds. Ordered the Friday Fish Sando with no cheese. Came out in a timely manner, large and crispy! It was messy in the best way. Crispy, beer battered cod, lettuce, and house made tarter. It was juicy on the inside with none of the batter mush you can sometimes get with fried fish, loved the house made tarter, all-around great sandwich. The fries were on point, too. Crispy but not greasy. Great space, friendly staff, good food!

I enjoyed that quiet space for a bit and the afternoon air after the walk from Cortex made the wait feel intentional rather than inconvenient. Comfortable seating out here and the light breeze with the afternoon light was nice as I cranked out a few Yelp reviews before I spotted other customers going inside. After setting up at the huge table in the corner, I stepped up to the bar where I was warmly greeted. I chose their Fish Fry, which they call a light lager. It was in a huge mug and that worked out just fine for me as it lasted a while. Oh, and some chicken wings. These were tasty buggers. Served quite hot with a rub that was more spice than sauce. Very yummy and the two sauces were perfect accompaniment. Absolutely delicious. Not long after, friends arrived and I shifted from solo laptop time to conversation. It's nice to see how Rockwell handles the flow of customers. Casual, attentive, friendly. Just right for a great brewpub and a great time. They do have a parking lot. It was just an easy experience today and a great spot for a meetup or hanging out on your own. [Round number review 400 of 2026 - 498 in Missouri - 25583 overall]

The acoustics at times are loud, but you can still hear your friends gathered around the table. My recent visit as always, was to meet-up with some friends. I started out with a Raspberry Beret one of their specialty cocktails. It was my favorite vodka, Tito's with Raspberry syrup and lemon. It was shaken, not stirred and severed up like a martini. Prince would have given it a thumbs up. After some intense conversations with my buds, I ordered some food and a beer. I typically get their famous burger with fries or the chicken wings, but I got adventurous and ordered the nachos. When I asked the bartender how they were, he said that's what he was having for dinner and showed me his plate which sold me. It may have only been an appetizer, but it was filling and easy to eat while enjoying more convo. I'm a fan of Avery Brewing in Colorado, so I had their White Rascal as my beer. Rockwell is so close to getting a 5 Star rating from me, but they keep missing the mark on the customer service. It's good, but some of the staff treat older customers differently then those their age. This visit, one of them was cold and had attitude. After a few tips, they warmed up and provided friendly service and actually got chatty. So I think next time, they may just get the bump to 5.

St. Louis is lousy with these microbreweries--this part of town in particular, to the point where,…read moreas I ran the streets of the surrounding area, I was violently assaulted with what must be the smell of beer as it's being brewed. It's not altogether different from the smell of beer as it's coming back up, and it called to mind my illustrious, mostly-forgotten-at-this-point college years. I was suddenly compelled to listen to Cannibal Ox and watch certain videos that I'd pilfered from Kazaa, and it's probably for the best that I didn't have access to a circa 1998 Compaq Presario in that moment. The vibe in Bluewood Brewing is a lot classier. There's no "Iron Galaxy" over the PA. The lights are dimmed, which I imagine would be convenient if there was someone there you owed money to. I was particularly impressed with a long table on the patio. I remarked to a member of my running group that it almost certainly didn't come from IKEA. The wood was of too high a quality. The food menu is limited to a small selection of standard sports-bar fare, but this is not anywhere you'd go to watch the game. They might not have any TVs. Did they spend too much on the table? Also, they don't sell any beer in cans, that I'm aware of, which I generally prefer as someone who, as the evening progresses, is prone to dropping things. I went with something called Crush, which is an orange-flavored high-gravity IPA. It was the highest ABV selection on their regular beer menu, but it also costs a little bit more, so you're not really getting over on them--unless you thought to "pregame." I found it to be both less "stiff" than I was expecting and less orange-tasting, in a good way but also in a bad way, in that anything that fails to conform to expectation is at least somewhat disappointing. I was expecting paint thinner and orange juice. I got something that was balanced and flavorful. From the food menu, I got the daily special, which was a sort of elevated patty melt called the Stable Melt. It came with two all-beef patties, Swiss, caramelized onions and "Frisco" sauce on Union Loafers marbled rye, with your choice of chips or fries. It was $18, and as I was standing there a guy came out and changed the price to $19, presumably due to developments in the war with Iran. I was assured that I'd be "grandfathered in" at $18, but I'm not sure if he told the guy at the register and I didn't bother to check. It wasn't necessarily my kind of thing, but it was a great burger. The name-brand bread alone nearly justified the price increase. The meat was generously proportioned (no Diddy), but it didn't quite extend to the edges of the bread. Perhaps if it were one larger patty? The onions gave it a sophisticated Salisbury steak vibe, wholly superior to Hungry Man. The fries called to mind the fries at Wendy's. If only they offered a Frosty to dip them in. It wouldn't necessarily go with their beer. I'd suggest they put bourbon or something in it, but I shudder to think what they might charge.

I came with my parents and husband and we all agreed it was a great idea and a very comfortable space, perfect for what was needed. I was surprised at how relatively ample the parking was here despite its proximity to the city. We found a spot with no problems. There were discreet signs that directed us up the stairs to where the event was held. It was spacious, airy, and cool, with a decent number of tables and a very nice large bar, as well as restrooms for both men and women. Our family members who spoke were able to stand on a small stage and share their thoughts. The food was served buffet style in front of the stage. Although you'd think it might be hard to hear given the acoustics, they worked out a way to make it so their speeches could be heard easily. Even visiting with other folks after they spoke, it never became too loud to hear each other. There are also nice TVs which displayed photos of the family. Although we used the space for a celebration of life, I can imagine it would be a good fit for all sorts of events, from corporate parties to just a chill hang out space when it's open to the public. It did get a little bit hot in the space as the event wore on, but it wasn't intolerable. The food and drinks were also quite tasty, especially for catered/buffet style food. There were pretzel bites and cheese dip and three different types of slider burgers: a standard/original burger, a taco burger, and an Impossible burger. The pretzel bites were crispy and buttery. I had a taco burger slider. It was a tiny bit dry but had a great flavor. The bartenders were great -- friendly, answering questions, working efficiently, and very kind to all the guests. Husband enjoyed the beers he tried and my mom and I both ordered the "Cranberry Crush," which was a yummy (and strong!) cocktail that was bright and perfectly sweet. They also serve mocktails, which I love! Glad to include folks who are sober. Thanks, 4 Hands, for creating a welcoming and comfortable space for us!
