two bottles of alcohol on a bar

Stopped by this place while walking down the street. It is a super cool little place. Fair disclaimer I'm a bourbon fan. This place had a fantastic bourbon menu and st very reasonable prices. The hard to find allocated bourbons were 1.5oz pours. They had flights of bourbons in addition to flights of beer. The bartenders were very good. They were knowledgeable and funny. I will be coming back.

Just had to try it out

First time at this bar and I must say, this place is amazing. They don't serve food but there are plenty of places around and you can bring your food in. But there are plenty of amazing beers on tap and a plethora of bourbons to choose from. The staff was very friendly and helpful with picking beers out and even the customers were friendly too. This bar just has a cool vibe and would definitely recommend it.

Need something to do on a Sunday? Come to Waterloo and visit the square. Many places to eat and drink in a short distance. Stop by Stubborn German to have some amazing beer. Chris, owner and head brewer, has an ever rotating list with some staples always on tap. There is also a weekly special of bourbon for your tasting. Along with that, Chris has amassed a large selection of Bourbons for your enjoyment. Make sure you visit the many restaurants on the square to get your food and bring it in to the brewery. Today we hit up RRR bar, a very short walk from Stubborn. Bring cash for RRR. A dive bar in the best sense of the word. Their burgers are juicy, flavorful, Anne the fries are crispy.

Good beers. I drank several during Stubbornfest. I closed maybe night with their blueberry beer, and it was my favorite.

Stubborn German is definitely worth the short drive from St. Louis! They are located on Main Street that is an adorable area that looks straight out of a postcard! Stubborn German staff are friendly and inviting as you enter. They have several long, wooden beer hall style tables and a few smaller bar height tables. Great for group seating! The atmosphere is warm and cozy especially on a cold winter's day! I enjoy sitting by the window for the view of the patio and street. Grab a table, review the beer menu and walk up to the "order here" area of the bar. You have the option to order full pours or if you can't make up your mind and want to try several opt for a beer flight. Their beers are oretty tasty! My favorite so far has been the El Diablo Mexican stout! Wow!! So many layers of flavor! In addition to beer, they have a large selection of whiskey as well. No food is served here, but you can bring in food or eat at one of the local restaurants nearby. There are also other venues and another microbrewery, so make the drive and spend the day!

Love that this brewpub is proud of being in a small German town. They make a large variety of beers, most of which I love, and many of which are available in cans. Several are aged in bourbon barrels and have higher ABV. they don't serve food, but customers are welcome to bring their own. There's great barbecue nextdoor at Shorty's Smokehouse, and great pizza available for delivery to the brewpub from Pie Hard around the corner. They sometimes have bands, and they throw a great Oktoberfest called Stubbornfest every September.

We enjoy sitting upstairs or on the back patio in nicer weather - so many options for a get-together with friends. Service at the bar and the food service counter are excellent. Staff are friendly and always have helpful suggestions. We recently came for Sunday lunch the week of Christmas, and there wasn't much of a crowd. This was great for a relaxed lunch with the kids and brother visiting from out of town. Plenty of seating! There are kid-friendly options here, with the pizza and pub snack menu. My picky daughter (not a fan of pizza) enjoys the pretzels. There is something for everyone. The salads have fresh ingredients, made-to-order. Pizzas on the menu are excellent and can also be modified or build-your-own. Pizzas and other hot appetizers come out on paper-lined pans. When ordering salads, they come in a takeout box rather than a plate or dish. You may need an additional box or plate, because the salads are packed full and you might have a mess! Utensils are plastic. There is a bit of a disconnect because the food and overall cozy vibe seem worthy of real plates and silverware ;) but the plus side is quick table turnover on the busy days or the days where everyone is out on the patio. It's nice to be able to order and pay at the food service counter. You will want to stay a while, but you'll be free to leave whenever you're ready to move on to your next stop!

We ordered a flight of beers, and thoroughly enjoyed each of the different ones. We also got some pizza, which was really good. Before leaving, we checked out the downstairs speakeasy room, which can be reserved for parties. I am sad that this restaurant is too far from me, because I would love to host a birthday party there. I definitely recommend checking this place out, and if we drive through again, I plan on stopping!

The pizza was fine, but definitely not cooked either long enough or in a hot enough oven. The beers are quite nice. Their seasonals are always interesting and I've had some really amazing ones here. Their year rounds brews are solid, including a rice-based lager. This is also known as "Villa Antonio Winery", I am definitely not basing this rating on the wine. It's your typical awful Missouri vintages. The labels on the bottles give you an indication of how bad it's going to be. After sampling some of their beers, I added their taproom to my list of my places I must go. We finally made it out that way last weekend - and OMG! I am so glad we did. Their beers are delightful. They have something for everyone's taste. They offer flights to try a variety of their brews - which I love! I dabbled in a flight of the Apricot Fruited Sour, Dunkel with Meadowfoam Honey, Hazy IPA w/ Chardonel Grape Juice, and a Porter with Belizean Cacao Husk + Tanzanian Vanilla Beans. I really appreciate the incorporation of such natural flavors and ingredients in the brewing! The flavors were delightful. My husband opted for the Rice Lager as he is more of your classic Pilsner guy. He enjoyed his beer too! The food was also delicious! We couldn't help but finish off the entire pizza & wings between the two of us. The wings were juicy yet crispy on the outside and the sauce - so flavorful! The pizza was cooked to perfection and so yummy. The bartender who took our orders was also outstanding! He was so personable and really helped make our visit complete. He provided us with great information about the place and each brew. He also was a great resource of the area - he gave us directions to a pretty little close drive as we wanted to go somewhere outdoors to kill some time while we waited for friends. Also to mention, the brewery shares space with Villa Antonio Winery. We, of course, had to share a little wine flight as well for the whole experience! The wine was remarkable and made onsite with local Missouri grapes. Highly recommend a visit!

All four of us got something different (I think one was a blueberry beer of some sort... but don't quote me on that), and all the drinks were so good, that we had to pass them around for the other others to try! Ended up going down the menu and ordering another one for each of us, so we got to try eight drinks in total and all of them were epic! The bartender was super sweet, and right there, even though the establishment was pretty busy, as soon as one glass got down to 1/4, he'd come by and ask if we were ready for another, but wasn't intrusive as much as just making sure we were OK and seeing if we needed anything. He was there and gone in a flash, as I think, he thought that since we were two couples, he didn't want to interrupt any conversations, but wanted to make sure we were taken care of. We made sure to tip him well. The restaurant was clean, the bathrooms were fantastic, especially for a late evening out at an establishment that serves liquor, it felt like a high-quality establishment, but in no way did we feel out of place, nor were we made to feel out of place. We also had the sloppy fries, smash burgers (one with signature bacon jam), onion rings, cheesecake, and carrot cake. It was all very flavorful. They have a store attached if you want to take some drinks home & they have a virgin menu for your Christian friends. The dining room is well lit and you can eat outside on good weather days. Even in bad weather days, it's a nice view outside with only glass between you and outdoors. Staff were great and service was timely. I would say the food is cooked to order & you don't need to tell them how to prepare a burger. It comes out juicy and medium well to perfection. They also have a BBQ kick to the ketchup they serve. Oh, there's a Rte 66 sign around the corner if you're just passing through (but I get the sense they know if you're not from around those parts).
