Hopskeller is an all around fantastic place to visit! We always make a stop here when in Waterloo. This is such a cool space! When you enter you see the large bar and all the beautiful wood. The staff are friendly and welcoming. You order drinks at the bar and food at the food window near the back. They have a large selection of beers and cocktails. There is are easy to read, large signs with the beers and drinks on the menu. The bartenders are helpful if you want more info about the style of beer. There is plenty of bar seating and a large area with tables. When the weather is nice I love the patio! Several large tables, a nice fountain and large tree to provide some shade. We enjoy sitting upstairs or on the back patio in nicer weather - so many options for a get-together with friends. Service at the bar and the food service counter are excellent. Staff are friendly and always have helpful suggestions. We recently came for Sunday lunch the week of Christmas, and there wasn't much of a crowd. This was great for a relaxed lunch with the kids and brother visiting from out of town. Plenty of seating! There are kid-friendly options here, with the pizza and pub snack menu. My picky daughter (not a fan of pizza) enjoys the pretzels. There is something for everyone. The salads have fresh ingredients, made-to-order. Pizzas on the menu are excellent and can also be modified or build-your-own. Pizzas and other hot appetizers come out on paper-lined pans. When ordering salads, they come in a takeout box rather than a plate or dish. You may need an additional box or plate, because the salads are packed full and you might have a mess! Utensils are plastic. There is a bit of a disconnect because the food and overall cozy vibe seem worthy of real plates and silverware ;) but the plus side is quick table turnover on the busy days or the days where everyone is out on the patio. This is the second time I have been here but the first time having their pizza. I highly recommend their pizza. I got the karma pizza but by the descriptions, all sounded fabulous. I added balsamic glaze drizzle on mine and wished I had asked for extra but I'm a vinegar freak. :) My husband enjoyed a flight and I enjoyed my margarita. We stopped by last weekend for some cocktails and their menu did not disappoint! I first tried the Caramel Apple Cider slushy and it was perfectly caramel and apple flavored while still being refreshing and not too sweet. I also had a salted caramel White Russian, which was so delicious. Finally, I had the Blackberry Pom-arita, which was a beautiful color and tasted great as well. Great beer, great tasting pizza but it took over 90 minutes to get two pizzas, and it wasn't even that crowded. You ever go to a restaurant and see somebody come in and sit down after you. And then you see them get served. Several tables were served for us. I mean come on. It was only two pizzas. Really disappointed. Yes, the server offered a couple of free beers, but we wanted food. Went to Hopskeller on a whim for a Friday lunch and it definitely did not disappoint. Hopskeller has a great atmosphere in an awesome historic building, but the pizzas are the real star. We had four awesome pizzas that made our lunch experience and frankly our day! We had the "Just What I Needed with ranch dressing and chicken, the "Sweet Child O' Mine" which awesomely combines pesto, pepperoni, red peppers, and balsamic glaze, the "Paradise City" which slaps with prosciutto, bacon, pineapple and Bee Sting honey, and the "Born to Be Wild" which delivers on a meat medley. Their Northern English Brown Ale was outstanding and their beer is always solid. My only complaint is that they don't have experimental taps more often. Just moved to Waterloo. Needed a dinner after working long hours in house. Ordered a pizza to go. Very fresh, hot and delicious.

Stopped in on 12/22, place is overall really nice and has a good atmosphere. Sampled several beers and all were pretty good. Decided to order some food, the sausage cheese bread which was fantastic. We should of stopped there ordered the Can't Get Enough pizza. Pizza looks good but was probably one of the worst pizzas I have ever had. Toppings were good but the crust ruined everything. Soft doughy, almost bread-like and waaaay tooo much corn meal. Overall , I would try again just too see if I caught them on a off day, plus beer was worth the trip. read more

Such a fun place! A hoppin atmosphere, pretty busy on a Saturday evening. There are two floors with high ceilings, plenty of space, lots of seating options and even a shuffleboard table. The bartenders seemed a little overwhelmed (based on how busy it was + their expressions/body language) but brought our drinks very quickly. Downside was that no one had masks on. The beers were good, above average ratings. Cocktails were great- I was happy to have non beer options. I really enjoyed the red cream hurricane, love that it was made with local soda from Excel. Food was awesome, very impressed by the pizza. I saw that it was a thinner crust which I'm normally not a big fan of but actually trying it was different- VERY flavorful crust, yeasty and wheaty, good texture with cornmeal. I enjoyed the pretzel too, the beer cheese was delish and I appreciated that it wasn't spicy. I mostly went to Hopskeller Brewing with a couple of friends on a Sunday to try the pizza. I did also try the beer but you know I'm always in it for the pizza. The pizza was stellar! I ordered the Helter Skelter Pizza (Sausage, Pepperoni, Sweet Cherry Pepper, Bleu Cheese, Mozzarella.) The crust is nice and thin and crisp. It still has a free form look and feel but it was not doughy at all. I loved this combo of toppings. I thought there could have been more of them but they all worked together. It's a cool place with a chill vibe. Waterloo is a cute town. What else can I say? Great place! I'll be back! read more

Love this place! This is not the first time being here and it won't be our last. We are from St. Louis and this is a great place for us to ride the motorcycle to. We have also had spontaneous larger family groups here and it's been wonderful. The service has always been excellent, the food, is amazing, and the atmosphere is something to look forward too. I'm not a beer drinker, but their Bloody Mary is GREAT! I also had a Peach Sangria that was very light and refreshing. The pizza here is outstanding. They do a thin crust, so it doesn't compete too much with the toppings. They have a huge selection, so there's definitely something for everybody. And not just your everyday, ordinary pizzas! When was the last time you tried SALMON on your pizza??? Anyway, the setup is nice. You go up and order your drinks and take them back to your table. The bartender was super nice. Pizza was amazing. We had the sweet child of mine. Love the names. They have about nine beer on tap which they brew here that is always fun. They have big TVs and a few games. The only concern I had is why the bathrooms have to be so dark. The place just opened and no toilet paper. I took my cell phone in there so I could see and of course I guess the reason is because it's so filthy and dirty on the walls and the toilet. I would've gave them a five if they had a clean bathroom with more than low lights. I know you're in Waterloo, but let's respect the town. read more

This place is so cool. It's a very old building o. The square in Waterloo, which is one of the most charming spots in greater St. Louis. They have really good beers here, but the woodfired pizza was the standout for us. There are a lot of creative choices. We had one of the chef's specialties called Sweet Child of Mine. It was awesome! So glad to live just 20 minutes away. We'll be back frequently, I think. read more
