This was so much fun. We went because it was one of the special Noah Kahan selected restaurants, but this was a great experience. There was a variety of German foods. I loved what I got. Not sure what to get? The staff was super helpful.

Amazing service. Super sweet staff. First time Trying schnitzel, and it was so good. I I was drinking wine all night, so I need to return to try their beer. Super well decorated with lots of local St. Louis trinkets. One of the first restaurants I visited moving here and I cannot wait to return.

I am not an expert on German food but this has to be as close as it gets to authentic in the St Louis area. Or is this a German style micro brew? I'd imagine most restaurants in Germany make their own beer. I had the Czech 12 Pale and my wife had a Pilsner. The foam on the beer was thick. They were both delicious. We weren't going to eat but couldn't resist the Bratwurst. Delicious. The course ground mustard and sauerkraut were cooked perfectly. We will be back to try more!

I lived in Bavaria for three years and this brought back some good memories. Jesse was a tremendous server, the food was authentic, the beer triggered some nostalgia. The bratwurst was fine, but the rot sauce and rosti made the meal for me. It was not the fest tables I imagined, but the dining room was comfortable and pleasant.

What a lovely spot! I loved the interior. A group of 5 of us met here for our monthly meet up and it was a great suggestion. I ordered the trout which was list as rainbow trout but looked to be more of a lake trout based on color. It was tasty wherever it came from. It was served over sautéed spinach and potatoes which were just as good as the trout. I enjoyed the Vienna lager too.

I took the opportunity to meet up with a friend and make my second-ever visit to Great Heart last week. I was excited when I first learned about a brewery opening in this part of West County, and even more excited to learn that Great Heart does not disappoint. Located close to the 170 Exit in Olivette, I'll jump straight to the only downside you might experience. The parking lot is small, serves multiple businesses, and there's no option forstreet parking on this stretch of Olive. Carpooling is recommended if you're meeting with friends. With that minor inconvenience out of the way, let's focus on what works. On both visits, we went for loft seating. I'm enthralled with Great Heart's ode to traditional bierhalls, complete with a traditional soundtrack at a reasonable volume. It's not just possible, but easy to have a conversation without shouting, and easier to fully take in the the aesthetic of your surroundings. This spot is high on my list for next Oktoberfest season. Tradition extends far beyond aesthetic; each beer pays tribute to European styles, like the Italian Pilsner (a personal favorite), Czech Lager, and Schankbier. All incredibly flavorful, malty, and delicous pints. Check out Great Heart's website for their extensive pre-history amd to understand the scope of knowledge and experience they employ when brewing. The beer itself is worth a visit, but you shouldn't pass up the food. This time, we split an appetizer of sourdough bread with Obazda cheese, hummus and melted beer cheese, and I tried the Mixed Greens Salad with grilled chicken, raclette cheese and lemon vinaigrette for my main dish. All easily recommended, hearty, delicious, and a great complement to your drink of choice. I was glad to see the recent (at least to me) addition of a to-go can selection near the entrance as we left. Great Heart's take on traditional styles is worth celebrating beyond the bierhall. Make a reservation and check it out, especially if you live near or frequent West County. Great Heart is a great spot to catch up with old friends or find a new favorite brew.

Outstanding spot. The decor is very German and well done. The beer was excellent and authentic if you like German style beer. Had two entrees there and both were excellent. Best schnitzel I've had in STL hand down. Staff was super attentive and fun even with them being very busy at the time. Great new spot!!!

We had heard that the pretzel was not to be missed. It was a good pretzel but I believe it filled us up before our dinner. Ordered the mustard as one of our dipping sauce choices. Wowza! There was some extra potent horseradish in the mustard. Just beware if you are not a huge fan of horseradish I would recommend a different sauce. The serving of meatloaf was huge. Taste like mom's meatloaf! It was good that I liked it as there was enough for two more meals.

We went here shortly after they added the reservations, so I did make one, but my friends got there beforehand and were seated without issue. I did go back and tell them that we did make a reservation and they were grateful I let them know. I believe the owners were there running around doing so many things, with smiles on, always asking if we needed anything. All of the staff was great as well, especially because we had a baby with us. They were making him smile! The rest of my party got beers, multiple kinds, and said they were all delicious. It's really cool that you can see where the the beers are made and the bierhall feel is spot on! We started with some pretzels and the spicy mustard has a lot of horseradish - delicious, but just be prepared. I got the chicken schnitzel, a friend got the charcuterie board, another friend got a sandwich, and my husband got the bratwurst. Everything was presented beautifully and the food was delicious! 10/10, worth the drive from the city.

St. Louis hasn't had a truly standout German restaurant in quite some time (unless you cross the river into Illinois). This new spot changes that. In fact, I'd say it surpasses most of the Illinois options. While it's a bit pricier than you might expect, the quality of the food, the warm atmosphere, and the excellent service make it worth every penny. The restaurant sits in a strip mall, but once inside you'd never know it. The décor is thoughtfully done, with an open layout and chandeliers that give it an authentic, German-inspired feel. The beer list is solid, though I've had better from some local breweries. I tried the Weissbier, which was pleasant but a little mild, and the Märzen brewed for Oktoberfest, which was excellent--rich, flavorful, and true to style. The food, however, is the real star. We started with the pretzel, and you must order it--it's one of the best I've ever had. The Quark and beer cheese dips paired perfectly. For entrées, I had the pork schnitzel and also sampled the chicken schnitzel. Both were well-prepared, but the pork was the standout--crispy, flavorful, and clearly made fresh. For sides, we upgraded to Käsespätzle, which was deliciously rich and creamy (almost too creamy, but it made fantastic leftovers the next day). The service matched the food. We were greeted by a hostess originally from Munich, which added a nice authentic touch. Sitting at the bar, we were well taken care of by Luke, who was knowledgeable, friendly, and offered excellent recommendations. We'll definitely be back--this is the kind of place we'll be proud to bring friends to. Just one tip: make a reservation first!

Very cool bar/restaurant/German beer hall! My party of four opted to share a couple pretzels and a charcuterie board... all good. The beers are about as authentic German beers you'll find anywhere in the area. Yes, they're that good. Topped off with excellent service, hope to revisit Great Heart soon! Next time, we'll order some entrees; I'm eager to try more of their food.

First time here. Chose to sit at the bar. We were greeted and offered water and menus immediately. The host even pulled out the chair for my 90 yr young mom. (It's very loud atmosphere so keep that in mind if you want a more intimate and quiet environment.). Lots of brew options for the beer lovers and they will even let you sample. The food menu is primarily Bavarian , but you can get a few less Bavarian items like smashburgers, salads and even mussels. We chose the fish and chips. Delicious. The fish was well batered, crispy on the outside and tender and flaky in the inside. The fries were hot and seasoned well. Bring a full wallet. It's pretty pricy. For our two meals, my mom's wine and my limoncello, the total including tip was $90. I'll still go back because there are a few beers and a couple of menu items I'd like to try.

Finally there's a great German restaurant again in St. Louis at Great Heart Brewing in Olivette, MO. This brewpub offers many German dishes as well as various bar food offerings. I ordered Cordon Bleu and it was a breaded and perfectly fried pork schnitzel (cutlet) stuffed with ham and melted cheese inside and came with a side of delicious German potato salad and the dish was perfect. My friend ordered Goulash and it had a German-style spatzel noodles side. The goulash was like a really delicious and slightly spicy roast beef. For an appetizer we split an enormous XXL large pretzel that came with a choice of three dips and was good. I can't wait to get back there since I love German food and since I have lived 7 years in Germany and miss the food there a lot. Also I'd say the brewery has very authentic German style brews and I had a Weiss Weizen (wheat) beer (or white beer) and I was impressed. The restaurant's building is beautiful inside the dining room and out. We had really great and friendly service, although not super fast that's not always a bad thing.

A few days before, at a Llywelyn's Pub, I joke-not-joked that I'd never order a burger that comes…read moreon an English muffin, because then I'd have to eat it. Yesterday, at Schlafly Tap Room, I did just that. My excuse is that I didn't read the menu as closely as I should have. I don't read well anyway, and it was late on what had been a long, difficult Monday--a manic Monday, if you will. I wished it was still Sunday. I'd just run five miles with a group that meets once a month, on the third Monday. But they alternate between here and another location, so they're not here that often, and after last night, they might not be back. Also, they might not offer a burger that comes on a regular bun. I know they have a few sandwiches that come on hoagie rolls or toast. If they just happened to a random, lone hamburger bun in the back for some reason, perhaps for emergencies, it would have been easy enough to ask them to use that instead. Their Tap Room Burger, or whatever they're calling it, is a decent-size sandwich. It just seems small because the English muffin they use isn't any bigger than one you'd get with, say, an Egg McMuffin. But the meat is nice and thick (ayo) and hangs out over the side of the, erm, bread a little bit. It's a shockingly high quality beef, better than on the last several steaks I've eaten, for what it's worth. They actually asked how I'd like it cooked. I requested medium, and would you believe they actually cooked it medium? I order a steak mid-rare, but I find that a burger benefits from just a bit more time on the grill. I'm no savage. It comes with a weird shredded lettuce (possibly a KFC Shredder) that doesn't contribute any value and a mild, melty white cheddar that's really good and really complements the beef. Clearly, the idea is for the meat to be the dominant flavor. The English muffin is neither very good nor very bad, as far as these things go. It's just a regular ol' English muffin, like you might find in a grocery store. It would have been better if it were toasted (or toasted more?) and buttered, but the butter in particular might have overpowered the subtle flavor of the beef. I suppose that if they only had one guy who knew what he was doing, it was for the best that they had him working the kitchen. The guy they had taking orders was out of his depth. You'd think that this was his first day, except he had all of these weird systems. He was very adamant that no one switch seats, like in a certain kind of fire drill, lest he get the orders mixed up. Which was very thoughtful of him, I guess, but the way he said it was like we'd done something wrong, or were in jail. He tried to count how many people wanted water (in a group of people who just ran five miles in 80-degree weather), lost count, then asked, by show of hands, who *didn't* want water. He accidentally brought an extra beer and then, instead of just leaving it for someone to drink, let us know he was gonna go pour it down a drain. LOL what a spazz. It's tragic, because this is a fairly easygoing group. All of the really crazy people I know are in another group I run with. He didn't screw anything up that badly, but he would have been better off if he did and he had a more likable personality. Hopefully, he took that extra beer in the back and drank it himself. That may have been what he needed.
