Where do I start? My girl listed 3 other vineyards which we thought were much "cuter" but I am sooo glad we ended up coming here! Meegan was so welcoming and accommodating. Our visit included 5 samples per person, $5 per glass after the samples, and less $20 per bottle of wine. We also got to explore their vineyard and corn field. They had live music and their regular customers were extremely kind. You have to be there to see and experience it for yourself. read more

Have always enjoyed this winery, it has great ambiance and wine. However despite verifying they were open online and via their phone message, I and a large party showed up only to find they were closed. The staff watched us walk around and didn't say anything until we asked them directly and were told they are no longer open on Friday's. The man said he was the owner and seemed annoyed by people showing up. While we were deciding where to go next another large group showed up with a similar experience. Hope they get back on track with their customer service. read more

This winery is open late enough to catch an awesome sunset over the lake! Note, this is a small winery. You aren't coming for fancy, if that's your look, move on. Families on the deck were playing a board game, we got a great pizza and sat around a nice fire. We tried a handful of wines and really appreciated the suggestions and kindness shown by the staff. It looked very promising as we drove up but it was just an okay experience. The patio is nice but inside is dated. That is not a deal breaker of course. They allow 5 tastings for free which is nice. Their label system for wine can be confusing so be warned. They name the wine by the grape but then will have 2-3 version of wine with same grape but with different levels of sugar added. I asked about this and was given a snippy reply that they don't do fancy wine names. The lady behind the counter was not happy with all people there. Fortunately our tasting was finished off by a guy who came into help. He was very friendly. I was not overly impressed with the wines but I think I would give it another try. Surprisingly my husband found a red that he would drink. They do have music sometimes so check website. read more

We stopped by another winery which was crowded and no where to sit. On the way home we discovered Shorr. Wine tasting is unlimited and wines are very good. Atmosphere is beautiful and clientele are laidback and great to be around. Bonus today - live music 4-close! Food choices are very limited but you can bring your own favorite wine snacks. I love wineries off the beaten path and this is one of them! On Easter, we decided to take a wine trip. It was gorgeous weather for it! But we are adventurous people and didn't want to go to the usual like Augusta, Hermann and St. Genevieve. ( Although those are great wineries.) We wanted to go somewhere different. So we decided to go East, Metro East that is. I found a small, family-own winery in Waterloo, Il called Schorr Lake Winery. It is situated right next to a lake which gives a great view. When we walked down the pathway, we were greeted warmly by one of the owners. Talk about making you feel at home! You get 5 complimentary tastings and any more is just a dollar more. We decided on a Vidal Blanc which is smooth and crisp, but not too dry. We can bring our own food, which is a definite plus! And you know, after a few bottles of wine, people get real friendly. The little store where you get your wine is quaint and cute. You can dine inside or out. They even had an Easter Egg hunt with Adult prizes! It was fun, although I missed the golden egg. My significant other and I stopped in at Schorr Lake Vineyard not knowing what to expect. We decided to go to this place because of its closeness to St. Louis and because we only had a couple of hours to spend on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. We are so glad that we chose Schorr Lake. The staff was friendly, and although busy, they took care of everyone in good time. The wines we tried were uniformly good, with three of them - a dry Riesling, a dry (and interestingly buttery!) Chambourcin Rose, and a 2014 (right year?) Chambourcin - being very good. The 2014 was chewy and heavily oaked. We bought bottles of each of these three to take home and spent a very pleasant afternoon on the patio with a bottle of the Riesling. The atmosphere is good with plenty of tables overlooking a small lake, all within steps of the tasting room. We also liked that we could bring our own small cheese and charcuterie board for snacking while we sipped. All in all, this is now our favorite winery in the St. Louis area. We'll definitely be spending more afternoons there. read more

Awesome spot and vibe. Right next to a lake with live music and cute little string lights. I think it's so cool they have a complimentary wine tasting. The owner Maria made us feel like we had all the time in the world and gave us lots of suggestions with information about the wines. Really great price for an evening- a bottle of wine, a pizza, two glasses of wine, and snacks, plus tip didn't break the bank. Would definitely recommend. read more

A good variety of wines. Nice scenery and landscape. Bring your own snack and enjoy a special outing with your special someone. We weren't sure if there was a private party going on, there was quite a crowd, but we walked in and were able to try some great wines. The atmosphere was lovely. The set up of the tables were surrounded by fans so the temperature was very pleasant. I had a handicapped person in my party and it was easily accessible for her. The wine selection was vast. There was a wide variety of dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and desert wine. The staff was well versed and gave us a recommendation that we loved. We were there during their Friday happy hour so we got $2 off a bottle of wine! We will definitely be going back soon! read more

Schorr Lake Vineyards is my new favorite vineyard that is close to St. Louis. It is small and has that small town friendliness that one expects. We went on a lazy Sunday and had most of the place to ourselves. Saturdays are apparently much busier. It has lots of seating and tables for a smaller place but it is not crowded too tightly together. It has a nice 7-acre vineyard that also includes a number of rows of big, beautiful blackberries. It has a small shop with various wine-related gifts and some food items, but you are welcome to bring a picnic basket as well - which is always important to us. We've evolved into avoiding those wineries that no longer allow us to bring in our own cheese. After all, we are there for their wine, not their food. Which brings me to the most important aspect of this place. The red wines and the blackberry wines (including the port) are phenomenal! I love dry, velvety reds with deep flavors. My girlfriend loves sweet wines. Here we get them both. Seriously, this is probably the best Chambourcin I've ever had and one of the best Norton's (Cynthiana) that I've had. My girlfriend is not a port drinker, but bought multiple bottles of the blackberry port and the blackberry wine to take home. All in all, a great place! read more
