Friday during Lent, I was excited to try the fish sandwich. It was busy! Lots of little groups and families. We spotted a couple of bar seats and squeezed our way in. Lively atmosphere, bartenders were welcoming and interactive. We ordered the Hot Cheese curds as an appetizer, and I got the Obscura as me beer of choice. Not going to lie, the cheese curds were as advertised! They were hot! Not so much that I couldn't handle but don't take them lightly, they are good. They came drizzled with a good ranch. The beer was great, especially with the hot cheese curds. Ordered the Friday Fish Sando with no cheese. Came out in a timely manner, large and crispy! It was messy in the best way. Crispy, beer battered cod, lettuce, and house made tarter. It was juicy on the inside with none of the batter mush you can sometimes get with fried fish, loved the house made tarter, all-around great sandwich. The fries were on point, too. This is one of my favorite breweries in STL! I am a huge fan of sour beers and side project never disappoints with their draft sours. The bartenders were so friendly and helpful in choosing which beers to order. The kitchen is also phenomenal and I love coming here for their crispy chicken sandwich. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed, so we parked across the street at side project pizza. Tables ranged from families with small children to friends watching march madness. I will be thinking about the crispy chicken sandwich for weeks. I'm not a big pickle on my sandwich type of girl, but the pickles are a must on this sandwich. That, along with the sauce, and the perfect crispy on the chicken really cannot be beat. When we ordered at the counter, they were great about all of the beer suggestions and it was very quick service. Loved side project. I can normally only get their beer at Oak and Steel in Kansas City but I recently traveled to STL for family holiday stuff and decided to stop in. The brew house is decent sized with plenty of seating both bar and tables. They have plants and it's super clean. The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable. They have to go beers in addition to draft and bottles, plus cocktails and food. I had several beers. We never get the IPAs in KC so that was a treat. We even both several 4 packs to take home. The sours are also phenomenal. A bottle of that ended up going home with me too. We hadn't planned on eating there but the food coming out looked amazing so we stayed and had some food. The pretzels were really good and had a nice seasoning. The beer cheese was also super good. I also ordered the spicy chicken sandwich. It came side fries. The fries were shoestring and were nice and crispy. The sandwich was indeed spicy and it was huge! They use a chicken thigh so it was very tender but still crispy. The ghost pepper ranch will make you sweat! I liked it because it was truly hot. It is a messy sandwich so make sure to grab napkins and don't rub your eyes. Okay, so I only stopped in to grab some fries, but had an amazing experience. First: the interior is dope. Super open concept with plenty of room for banter and groups. Boars games are available as well. The service was great. Dude behind the bar was having a great time and super hospitable. The fries? Shoestrings. A top tier fry. Covered in grated parmesan for maximum salty, umami awesomeness. Crispy, crunchy, delectable. The aioli? A field of its own. It is super citrusy and garlicky. For some, it may be too much citrus. Really cute place, came here with a friend on a Friday night and had no trouble finding parking. They had a good variety of beers to choose from and also a good food selection. The salad that I got was super fresh and yummy, although a little bit spicer than I thought a peach salad would be. We also got the fries which are good but covered in a thick layer of cheese that was hard to get around and also really small. Everything came out pretty fast, although the salads came out before the fries. There were also dogs in the dining area which I was fine with but wasn't sure if that was allowed or just something that was happening. read more

This is one of my fiancé's favorite places and he requested it for his birthday! The Christmas decor was a lovely surprise and they had inclosed the patio so we were nice and warm. The Staff was super fun and kind! The woodfired pizza is always well done. Loved the Parmesan covered fries and the Abscura was my favorite local stout in a long time! Side Project Pizza in Maplewood is a total standout! The atmosphere is super chill and inviting, perfect for a casual night out. But let's talk about the pizza - it's incredible! The fire-cooked crust is perfectly crispy with a slight char, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, which makes all the difference. Checked out Side Project Brewing this weekend! there is only a small parking lot but I've not had trouble getting a spot yet, and I think you can park across the street if needed. It wasn't too busy when we went - and you can go right up to the counter and order beer and food and they'll give you beer right away and then bring food to your table. We tried a few different beers, including the content moderator, Oma and opa! All were really nice. For food, we got the burger and the spicy chicken sandwich. They did warn me the chicken sandwich was spicy, which I appreciate - definitely correct, but a good level of spice in my opinion! Super messy to eat which I don't mind, but thought it could've been a bit more flavorful. Burger was delicious as well. The fries were PERFECT - huge fan. After years of passing down Manchester, getting sidetracked by other plans, I was excited to finally take the time for Side Project last week. I've always pictured a small space from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised at how much seating the brewery offers. The space is very open and inviting, excellent for learning a board game or catching up with old friends. The music volume and variety adds to the charm, quiet enough for conversation but present enough to enrich the vibe. Side Project's focus on experimental and unique styles is worth celebrating in itself - even though a barrel-aged barleywine won't be my first choice in the dead of St. Louis summer, I'm absolutely planning to return in late fall when I can truly appreciate the a greater scope of their selection. Luckily, they also offer an array of IPAs and lagers suited for warm weather. I tried the flavorful Backpack Fashion Show and light, smooth Content Moderator on last week's visit - both delicious and recommended. If you aren't a fan of beer, but still enjoy breweries for the atmosphere, Side Project also offers a handful of cocktail and cider options. I would like to see an expansion of these alternatives in the future, but I'll also enjoy their in-house creations in the meantime. Much like the interior space, I wasn't expecting as large a food selection as Side Project provides, with a medium-sized menu of appetizers, salads, and sandwiches. We ordered the Grilled Peach Salad and Szechuan Chicken Salad Sandwich - the sandwich had a nice, subtle kick and I found a lot to savor in both the texture and flavor combination of the salad's grilled peach and speck on a bed of arugula. No complaints about the service, either - the staff was able to keep both lines moving at a steady pace and our food was brought out in a timely manner. Keep Side Project in mind if you're visiting from out of town, a local exploring everything the STL metro has to offer, or someone like me (nearby and knowing I've needed to drop by for years) - as I'd hoped, it was absoutely worth the visit. read more

I'm not the most knowledgeable beer guy but I've visited about 30 of the roughly 60 brewpubs I'm aware of within the greater metro area. There aren't any bad ones but this is hands down the best brewery/brewpub by far of all of them. There are beers here unlike anything else you'll find anywhere. There are special vintages bottled that you can buy to take home as well. The food is also among the best if not also possibly the best to be found at any of the greater metro breweries. It's a family friendly casual venue with larger tables, smaller high top tables, and bar seating. If you're looking for one brewpub to visit in St Louis, this one should be at the top of your list. read more

If you want to try some good local brews check this place out. Be warned they close at 8pm on Friday and Saturday. They have plenty of games to play while you drink and eat. A unique brewery. They have your classic beers and an experimental side. I tried the Pinot noir saison which had a perfect hint of Pinot noir which I really enjoyed. The burger was incredibly filling and flavorful, the salad was lemony and covered in Parm, the fries were paired with the most indulgent lemon aioli! Side Project is one of the best breweries in the world. I'm not exaggerating - according to Untappd, they are the 13th best in the world. However, 8 of the ones ahead of it are meaderies, not true breweries, so it's more like Side Project is 6th. They specialize in stouts, saisons, barley wines and the like. I've never had a bad beer from them, or even an average, unremarkable beer. So if you are looking for some spectacular beers, this is the place to go. Truly excellent beers. They also have some good beers from other breweries, like Bourbon County Stout. Side Project is their flagship brand, but they also make beers under the Shared label; many of these are excellent too. As good as their beers are, I only gave them 4 stars. Why, mainly, it's because I find some of their business practices frustrating. Many of their beers you have to buy a 750 ml bottle of. You can't get it on tap. These bottles are not cheap - $50-75 or more. As good as they may be, I find it difficult to justify that much for a beer. I would generally be willing to pay a portion of that for part of a bottle, but they may or may not offer that option, and often usually not when come out with a new beer. Sometimes you can buy one of these 750 ml bottles but you have to drink it on site. Again, frustrating. If you come in for a beer, know that everything is going to be over$5/glass. The stouts will generally be $10 or slightly more. I do like their beers and will continue to go here, but know that you have to play by their rules. read more

So glad my friend that recently moved to Maplewood suggested this place for our friend date night. This place had the setting I constantly am looking for when searching for places our pup Teddy would be allowed. Also has a decent food menu selection given this is a place meant for drinks and allows well behaved leashed pups inside the venue. Order at the counter and it is less pressure for all the guests as they can order when ready. Please keep up the great work and continue to make this venue door friendly. I was lucky to have enough time on the afternoon of New Year's Eve that I could stop by Side Project for a glass or two of their stellar, connoisseur-grade brews. Side Project (SP) is literally world renowned and among the top rated breweries in America. If it's sour, stout, and/or can be aged in a barrel, SP will be on point. I make sure to visit whenever I'm in town and circumstances allow. These beers are worlds away from the Budweiser that defined StL beer for generations. Thank God. This was my first trip to the Cellar. Parking's easy and free. I found a spot at the bar and pondered--the barleywine I'd hoped for was only on tap at the brewery, closed today. No matter. Staff were friendly, freely offering to answer any questions. My first glass was a tart and tasty Raspe #1, a Missouri wild ale aged in oak barrels on red raspberries. Pucker up and enjoy! On its heels came the most robust version of Mexican chocolate stout ever to cross this palate. I took home a four-pack of DDH double IPA made by Shared, SP's sister brewery, and later wished I'd grabbed four more. The brewery's located a couple of minutes west on Manchester and offers a more open, airy ambiance, but the same superb beers and staff. Highly recommended!!!! read more

The quality of the beer is superb and cannot be outdone. The staff was extremely knowledgeable as I asked several questions regarding each beer. They also were courteous and friendly. I met some friends here when I was in town for a visit. They were there for a beer trade event. Cool place, very casual and a mixed group of folks. People had brought their dogs. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is no food on premises but the pizza place across the street will deliver. The pizza is okay. NY style the bottom crust was a bit too soggy for me. Definitely a great place to grab some different beer and hang out with friends. The only downside is the parking it is limited and one way to a dead end. I had a great evening at side project brewing. We went to try the new food menu. It was very good! I ordered the smash burger. It was delicious with the caramelized onions and apple cider dijan aioli. The French fries it came with were perfection. Nice and thin but also salted and fried perfectly. My husband ordered the pork shoulder sandwich which was impressive and the salad verde was the best touch! We really want to come back to try the spicy chicken sandwich. Obviously the beers are also really good but our reason for coming was to try the new food menu! My only complaint from my evening was how hot it was inside. We would have stayed longer and tried more beers but we were too uncomfortable with the temperature. It appeared the thermostat was at 79... We visited St. Louis for a concert and at the very top of my list of other things to do while in the area was visit Side Project--I did not come away disappointed. The beer was as good as I've been fortunate enough to have from them and the food was as good or better. It was a little warm in there which I thought was weird, but all-in-all it was a fantastic visit and the atmosphere was great. Side project has food now, so an essential maplewood spot became more noteworthy. I'll only touch on the food because the beer is well known as some of the best in the country. I had the chicken sandwich and fries. The fries are perfect. Skinny, salty, just the right amount of crispy. The chicken sandwich is also great. Great bun, crispy breading. Nice spice level. Maybe on the higher end for some, but u would rate it about a medium spice level. Only note would be the chicken would Benefit from more salt to really bring the flavors together. read more
